Some of you may have heard there’s an election coming up in November. That’s on Tuesday November 6th for Republicans and Tuesday November 11th for any Democrats who may read this. And Wednesday night we will be covering the debate here with an open thread. Bring your friends! In the meantime, here’s something interesting: the Democratic Wish List for Obama’s second term.
This comes from an article in The Hill, wherein they spoke with numerous Democrats to find out what they think Obama will do if re-elected. . . or what they hope he will do. It is instructive:
That’s where this gets funny, actually. They claim that Obama winning will pressure Republicans to join them on these issues. Huh?
Basically, they claim that Obama has momentum, based on the fake polls we took apart last week, and that momentum means he will have a mandate and the Republicans will need to listen. Yeah right. That didn’t work for Clinton in 1996 or George W. Bush in 2004, and it didn’t really work for Reagan in 1984 either. And why would the Republicans agree to do things that the Democrats couldn’t even do themselves? On moderate things, sure, it’s possible Republicans will feel pressured, but not on the things that gave them an historic victory in 2010. . . things the Democrats won’t even touch themselves.
I find this list cynical. What this represents is an attempt to lie to the Democratic base, to make them believe the party will “fight” for things the party has proven they won’t touch with a ten-foot pole. If you’re a Democrat, I wouldn’t believe a word on this list. . . oh, and don’t forget to vote November 11th.
This comes from an article in The Hill, wherein they spoke with numerous Democrats to find out what they think Obama will do if re-elected. . . or what they hope he will do. It is instructive:
● Jobs!!: The Democrats know they need to create jobs while “dealing with the debt.” For this, they cite Obama’s ideas last year of boosting infrastructure spending, promoting manufacturing and hiking taxes on corporations that outsource jobs. Forget that they already tried all of this and it all failed. But that’s liberal thinking for you, if at first you don’t succeed... just keep doing it with more money.Man, it’s like Obama’s first term never happened, isn’t it? They passed several jobs bills, none of which created jobs, so now they want to do it all over again. They passed ObamaCare which was supposed to fix everything but now it needs a fundamental change to fix our still broken system. Not to mention, they could have done this when they had the filibuster-proof majority, but they lost their nerve. They also lost their nerve on immigration reform and cap and trade. What makes them think things will be different now?
● Immigration: The Democrats think that if Hispanics vote overwhelming for Obama, then the Republicans will cave on immigration, but they think the “window” for this would close by the end of 2013. None of them say what they want in this regard, but presumably it would be a general amnesty and funding for the children of illegal immigrants to go to college (DREAM Act). But 70% of the population opposes their plan, including a majority of Democrats.
● Climate Change: The Democrats want to get back on the climate change/global warming short bus by “focusing on energy efficiency” to “create jobs” (read: green jobs) and reduce carbon emissions (read: cap and trade). It’s fascinating that they are so obsessed with this now that the science is disproving all the claims upon which their theory is based: record ice flows, falling temperatures for two decades, fewer hurricanes, and none of the claimed disasters have come to pass. The green jobs thing became a corruption fiasco and hasn’t worked for any country who tried it, so we’d be throwing good money after bad, and the big polluters are ignoring carbon entirely.
● Healthcare reform: The Democrats plan to push to “expand” state-based insurance exchanges by creating a “federal exchange.” Talk about doublespeak! In other words, they want to absorb healthcare to the federal level and create a Medicare-like organization to manage all private insurance. That’s a disaster and the next to final step toward socialization.

yeah, I saw this and almost laughed out loud . . . except it is not really funny. But you are right on--the Dems only know one thing and that is to throw money at everything. Well, that and help set up as many categories of victims as possible. It is sad that Romney isn't 22 points ahead. Based on objective instinct, he shouldn't even be close. It just goes to show what a media that acts as a propaganda arm can do. Well, that and the fact there are a lot of people who already are on the government dole.
ReplyDeleteThere's going to be an amnesty for illegals. The only question is which party gets the credit.
ReplyDeleteSomething that didn't show up on the list - going toe to toe with Iran over nukes. IMO, if it looks like Romney is going to war I believe it will cost him the election.
That's an interesting conclusion Andrew. I could definitely see this as just a tease for their followers.
ReplyDeleteThis is really ironic if you think about it. This is what Obama promised them in 2008 and what he claimed to deliver in 2009 and 2010. Now they're acting like this is something new. I wonder if their people will believe this?
ReplyDeleteActually, who am I kidding, of course they'll believe this!
ReplyDelete? I was told it was Tuesday November 2nd for Democrats? They'd better vote then and on the 11th, just to make sure they're counted.
ReplyDeleteAnd I can guarantee that to the extent any of this occurs, it will be through executive orders. Because Congress can't be relied upon to legislate Obama's will.
ReplyDeleteT-Rav, Nope, it's the 11th. So don't even think about the election until then!
ReplyDelete(If we told the 2nd, then they might find out the truth in time... so work with me on this!)
Jed, This definitely lies somewhere between hilarious and sad. It's amazing that they only know the one thing -- toss money at it. It's also amazing that their followers keep buying into this. They keep making the same promises and then never delivering, yet their people keep buying into it.
ReplyDeleteK, I agree on both points. There will be an amnesty one way or the other and the question will be which party gets the blame/credit. The one thing the Republicans should not do is share the credit because then they end up getting blamed by their followers while the Democrats will steal all the credit with Hispanics, just like they did with things like the Civil Right Act of 1964. The Republicans need to lead on this quite honestly.
ReplyDeleteI agree about Iran too, Romney cannot be seen to be planning a war or he's finished. Fortunately, he seems to get that and has been saying he's not sure military action is needed.
DUQ, It is a tease, just like the Religious Right promising to ban abortion and rid the world of gays by government fiat is a tease. They know they'll never deliver, but they use these hot button, impossible promises to keep their followers handing over the cash and voting for them.
ReplyDeleteTerry, That's why I think this is rather hilarious -- because this is exactly what Obama promised in 2008 and what he already claimed he delivered by the 2010 election. Now they are acting like this is a brand new idea they haven't tried yet.
ReplyDeleteTerry, Of course they'll believe it. They always do. A lot of people on our side are the same sadly.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I shake my head whenever I hear people promise constitutional amendments to ban abortion or whatever because it's never going to happen, but it does excite people. It's like political fraud.
ReplyDeleteT-Rav, I don't think this is meant to occur. The dirty little secret about the Democrats is that they know they can never give their followers what they want because once they do, they have no reason to stick with the party because the party no longer has a shared ideology. Thus, they will keep making all these specific promises to each group and will somehow never quite be able to deliver on those. It's a giant tease.
ReplyDeleteDUQ, That's the classic example. A constitutional amendment on anything with the slightest bit of partisanship is impossible today. The country is too polarized and the states are split with just enough numbers to stop anything. So anyone promising an amendment to do anything is lying.
ReplyDeleteBut some people just don't get that. And the politicians know that, so they pander to those people with promises they know they will never need to keep. And that keeps them from needing to deliver anything.
Sometimes playing devil's advocate works out to be optimistic. I see this article as further evidence that Obama, the DNC, and the apparatchik media have no one left to play to but the base. It's full-tilt West Wing fairytale theatre on their side.
ReplyDeleteI also note a copiously missed opportunity for an Electric Boogaloo reference. *tear*
tryanmax, I struggle with how often to whip out the Electric Boogaloo reference. You don't want to overuse that and spoil it!
ReplyDeleteI think you're right that this is pretty solid evidence that the Democrats really are out of ammo. There is nothing here which would attract moderates, nothing inspiring, nothing that I think the public wants. That's a bad sign for them.
I think it also shows their intellectual bankruptcy. It's clear from this that they have no real idea how to solve the nation's problem. Indeed, what they are suggesting would just make everything worse.
Andrew: I had just read this article and then this popped up on fb - (second pic - Titanic) http://patriotpost.us/humor/14928
ReplyDeleteAs for Climate Change: [1] we got nearly 6 inches of rain over the weekend! wooohoooo!!!
and more seriously, [2] Psychology Today (my go-to choice whenever some munchkin is selling mag subscriptions) had a section about whether you are a lib or conservative - and one of the "deciders" was your stance on this subject, because conservatives tend to deny its existence "regardless of all of the proof otherwise" - I just laughed... it's the last issue in my subscription - until the next fundraiser.
rlaWTX, That's great! That really does peg the mentality that Obama II will be better than Obama I by doing the same things all over again!
ReplyDeleteOn climate change, all the evidence is now going against all the theories that they've been pimping for the last three decades, yet they are trying to pretend their theories are still valid. That's not science, that's dogma.
And that "test" is the perfect example. They are the ones who have uncritically accepted reports that have been proven to be false as true and demand that everyone follow their beliefs based on that. That's not science or logic, it's dogma.
Glad you got rain! We got a bunch last week too.
tryanmax, You can never have too many Electric Boogaloo references! :D
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I agree that they'll fall for it. People get stupid when it comes to believing their leaders for some reason. I don't understand it.
ReplyDeleteTerry, There's actually an interesting theory about that, which says that people are incapable of paying attention to everything. Thus they select people they trust to pay attention to various things for them. That's why you trust your doctor rather than trying to verify the things they tell you, for example. Politics is the same. Most people trust the person who represents their side and assumed they will do their job so you don't need to pay attention.
ReplyDeleteThis may be aimed at just keeping their base happy, but it makes me nervous. It tells me they learned nothing in the past three years!
ReplyDeleteEllen, I agree and disagree. It tells us they learned nothing about how to do it right, but they have learned how to manipulate their own base. So if the goal is to fix things, then yes, you cannot trust them. But if the goal is merely to stay in power, then they are experts at that.
ReplyDeleteI see your point Andrew, but from my perspective, what I see that they haven't learned is that they haven't learned to do things right by the country. They have no plan to fix anything, they just want to keep doing more of what didn't work. It's like all they care about is keeping power but they don't know what to do with it and they don't care.
ReplyDeleteAndrew: We've all heard the expression "madness is doing the same thing over and over and over and expecting a different result. That's the Democrats for you. They also subscribe to the idea that if your crazy program doesn't work, it's just because you didn't throw enough money at it. I think the voters may have caught onto this for this election. At least I hope they have.
ReplyDeleteEllen, I understand your point and I share it. It's problematic that (1) the democrats are proving to be ideological to the core and (2) their ideology is very lacking. I see nothing here that even has the potential to make this a better country.
ReplyDeleteLawhawk, Very true. When I look back on democratic policies in my lifetime, it's the same things over and over even though they've never worked and even as Reagan proved the opposite does work. And you're right about the money. They seem to think that if the program didn't work, it's just because you never spent enough. That's ridiculous.
ReplyDeleteAt least in education policy they are starting to realize that's not true.
My wish list involves them all going away! Wish the Democrats into the cornfield doc! ;)
ReplyDeleteDoc, LOL! Nice. Let's just be glad people can't really do that.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I suppose... LOL! You always ruin everything with your logic! ;)
ReplyDeleteSeriously though, this is a list of stupidity and I agree with tryanmax above that this tells us that the Democrats have no clue how to win the public. This list tells us they are playing entirely to the base. And that actually makes me happy because I'd hate for them to come up with something which could win over the public and then they get the rest of their agenda with it.
Doc, Sorry about that! :(
ReplyDeleteI think that's right, I think this shows a party without ideas who are struggling to keep their base engaged. This is a good sign for the election really.
By the way, you said something a while back about debt and it made me think, "please don't tell that to the Democrats!" I'm glad I don't see anything like that on the horizon.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, it has the potential to make Mitt Romney's garbageman happy. That's about it.
ReplyDeleteDoc, Yes, the debt forgiveness plan. I'm glad they haven't proposed something like that either. Even if they couldn't pass it, it would get them millions of votes.
ReplyDeleteT-Rav, I saw that about the garbage man... unbelievable. This election keeps hitting new lows.
ReplyDeleteNot only do the Dems keep repeating the same failed policies over and over, but they project that failure onto Republicans. At least they've finally been forced to acknowledge that Reagan's policies were successful and are trying to now cozy up to them. (It only took literally my entire life.) Which is why they try to relate all Republicans to George W. Bush all the time now. Still, give the Democrats enough time, they'll rewrite the history books so that Reagan was a Democrat president and the FDR/LBJ entitlement state is a Republican albatross.
ReplyDeletetryanmax, That's true. I'm amazed how often they claim that the Republicans did the things they actually did or that their policies (like Obamacare) only failed because they had to take the interests of the Republicans into consideration.
ReplyDeleteOn the historical point, what's interesting is that none of the historical Democrats they claim (Jackson, Jefferson, FDR) would be Democrats today. Theire views were fundamentally opposed to what the party has become.
And they kinda sweep ol' Lyndon under the rug, don't they? LOL
ReplyDeleteYes they do, even though he's the source of all this stuff they claim is so important and a fundamental part of their agenda today.
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I'm just waiting to see how long it will be before we learn this schmuck's never met Romney, and doesn't even work in the garbage industry. That's really what I expect at this point.
ReplyDeleteAndrew,
ReplyDeleteWhat really gets me about your article is how much was promised in 2008.
O/T
How does the Elway endorsement of Romney change things in Colorado? I have an old boss who lives in Colorado and I remember him talking about how a lot of people revere Elway. I was just wondering if his endorsement actually means something.
T-Rav, That would not surprise me in the least. Look at all the supposed workers who lost their jobs because of Bain who turned out not to have ever worked for those companies and who had other insurance by gave that up. This campaign season is devolving into total fraud.
ReplyDeleteJoel, It's amazing how much they promised and how little they ended up delivering. Or let me put that differently because they did deliver, it just didn't work. So it's amazing how much they promised and how unhappy they are now that they got what they wanted.
ReplyDeleteI'm not sure what any endorsement really means? I think it helps more than hurts, that's for sure. Elway is very popular. But I'm not sure that matters to people. If anything, it just helps to show people that others support Romney and thus, they won't be alone if they make that decision.
Weird story up on Drudge right now, about Obama's "other race speech" to be aired on Fox News tonight. I don't pay much attention to these things, and I doubt it'll be "game-changing" in any sense, but if it's being dropped 24 hours out from the debate, there must be something interesting in it. So, there's your programming note.
ReplyDeleteT-Rav, I wonder what other race he's talking about? Little green men perhaps? Will we finally hear the truth? ;)
ReplyDeleteNice try. I know when Election Day is. :)
ReplyDeleteSo you are a sharpcookie indeed! LOL! Welcome to the site! :)
ReplyDeleteMaybe little green men is this year's October Surprise! In all honesty, I'm actually looking forward to seeing what the Democrats and the media come up with seeing as how everything so far has fallen flat. I'm fairly confident that they have nothing, but it just wouldn't be an election year without an October Surprise. Kinda like those red and green M&Ms at Christmastime.
ReplyDeletetryanmax, That would be a heck of an October Surprise! "There are aliens, and they're endorsing me."
ReplyDeleteMaybe we should try to come up with an October surprise?
No thank you. I'm not a very good cook.
ReplyDeleteIt doesn't have to taste good, it just has to look good long enough to fool the audience! :)
ReplyDeleteHow about Iranian M&M Surprise!
ReplyDeleteCyanide cookies?
ReplyDeleteCyanide cookies may be needed if we lose this election!
ReplyDelete(For distribution obviously.)
Only if the cyanide cookies have M&Ms in them. ;)
ReplyDeleteI thought the Iranians preferred cake. Especially yellow cake.
Hmmm... cyanide M&M cookies. Murdery goodness!
ReplyDeleteI believe you are correct about the Iranians. LOL!
Ohmmaugh! Deliciously deadly!
ReplyDeleteI heard this today--CNN Poll: Forty-three percent of women like Ryan; 51% of women really like Biden. 51% of women really like Biden. WTF??? Well, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle 'em with Biden. I hope he likes those special cookies. When do I start baking them?
ReplyDeleteBack to Obama's garbage man ad, that is just pathetically low. Just like the new Romney ad that tries to connect Obama to Nancy Pelosi! So laughable! I mean, the discourse is low, but it's exactly the same from both sides. /sarc
ReplyDeleteSorry, I've been listening to the MSM again. I promise to stop.
Well done Homer!
ReplyDeletetryanmax,
ReplyDeleteI thought you had an intervention concerning your MSM addiction. Do you think you will need another scourging?
Jen, I don't believe polls anymore. I can't imagine anyone liking Biden... even his wife.
ReplyDeletetryanmax, This campaign has hit new lows almost every day. You should see the totally false ads they play here. Talk about lies and melodrama! The garbage man ad fits with that perfectly.
ReplyDeleteJoel, tryanmax watches the MSM so you don't have to! LOL!
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I don't believe polls either (don't follow them, don't trust them), I just couldn't believe that someone could actually report this, and think that people would buy the BS. But then again, it's the MSM, so what do you expect?
ReplyDeleteJen, This whole election has been about polls. That's all anyone reports on anymore. It's become the only story... "here are today's polls."
ReplyDeleteAndrew, I know, and since I'm "one of those" who listens to Rush, that's all I hear. I'm sick and tired of it.
ReplyDeleteIf someone was actually honest for once, instead of oversampling Democrats all the time, it might make a difference. I won't hold my breath (I'll fit right in with the other side if my face turns blue).
Sorry, I'm going to be very sarcastic until the election is over.
Now, how about those cookies? When do I bake them?
Jen, Unfortunately, that's all that's in the news cycle at the moment. So that's all anyone is talking about.
ReplyDeleteStart baking! LOL!
Andrew, One question. Who is going to be responsible for the cookie distribution?
ReplyDeleteAny more poll reporting, and I'm going to channel the "Vancome Lady" from MadTV by putting my fingers in my ears while saying "La la la la".
Joel, isn't exposure to the MSM scourging enough? You're mad! Mad, I say!
ReplyDeleteJen, The government. That's the one thing they are good at... handing out other people's stuff.
ReplyDeletetryanmax, It is certainly an activity that carries its own punishment within it! LOL!
ReplyDeletetryanmax,
ReplyDeleteDon't blame me, you are the one who keeps going back for more. I thought a gentle scourging would be preferable to what the MSM offers. I'll take the whips back to the cellar and withdraw the offer.
Try to help a masochist a way out of his mess and get called mad. I should have known better.
Andrew, Okay, I get it. Those cookies really aren't for us, are they?
ReplyDeleteIf I got that right, I'll make them extra special, and...they can pick them up with their new cell phones. Can you imagine how the electoral map would change just with the cookies?
There's a portion of folks who believe that the dems fart nothing but sweet-smelling rainbows. Conversations with those that inhale, are futile.
ReplyDeleteQ: What should Obama do...
ReplyDeleteDemocrats: Spend more money if we spend more money the economy gets better and our debt to GDP ratio looks better
Q: but we tried that and it did not work and we might be running out of money to spend. why do you support this...
Democrats: Hey it ain't our money
Don't worry Obama's handlers are working on the arm folding......
ReplyDeletebut hey he got the auto companies building cars on time....
