One Day To Go...

"Voting is the best revenge."
-President Barack Obama

What is left to say? We have one more day (or two) before we either stay or change our course. These are anxious times, but whatever way the wind blows, we will muddle through. But then again, I prefer to take my directive from President Barack Obama - "Voting is the best revenge"...

Share you thoughts, anxieties, funny stories, anything that will help us get through the next day or two...

  1. I saw the 'voting is the best revenge' comment as reinforcing the perception that the Republicans are seeking to suppress the vote of likely Democrats.

I'm fine with voter id. I've yet to see evidence of widespread voter fraud, but I've got no problem with closing the barn door before the horse escapes. But cutting down on early voting days just seems like it has one objective, to reduce the number of early voters.

Its perfectly reasonable for Republicans to make such a move, its also perfectly reasonable for Democrats to object to it.

If a group of voters is seen as leaning towards the other side, expect the party in power to not go out of its way (at best) to help them (the Obama administration hasn't sued states who haven't given soldiers adequate time to cast their ballots).

  2. Sad antecdote? I saw a cute, friendly little toddler the other day at a restaurant (he grabbed my arm and waved hello to me as I walked past him, perhaps confusing me for someone). Sadly, his mother was casually using profanity in every other sentence.

I see something like that roughly once every few weeks (once saw two young woman graphically discussing sex in front of a six year old that belonged to one of them) and it always makes me sad for a day or two.

  3. I'm about to have an attack of nerves. I really want to believe Romney's got this, but...I don't know. I just don't know. All I know is, I'm going to be exhausted once Wednesday gets here.

  4. out of your hands, Rav. A lot of the polls still seem to oversample Demorats, but everthing seems to have tightened up. That's when I fear things like the touch screens that seem to register a vote for Obama regardless of who the voter selects

  5. I'm sorry if I'm still a bit preoccupied with the "anybody-but-Romney" religious right(left) crowd, but it seems to me that at every turn Obama is doing or saying something to make it obvious that Christians should flee from supporting him. You don't have to be a Biblical scholar to have heard the verse "'Vengeance is Mine!' says the LORD." And here is Obama talking about revenge. Sadly, this will be overlooked by many who believe charity begins at the IRS.

  6. For what it is worth, John Nolte's pre-election blog helped a little. He reminds us of the questionable methodology of most pollsters, while pointing out it is the so called "internals" that make a Romney victory too likely. I would feel better if we had a nine point lead we deserve, even with a D+11 poll.

  7. Jed, if there's clear evidence of fraud, I hope the Romney camp digs in and demands a recount or hearing or whatever until it's found and corrected. I don't care how much the Dems scream disenfranchisement, I want them hammered.

  8. The only problem is that if Obama loses and the left figures out they alienated every Religious group from Jews to Evangelicals, to Protestants and on to Catholics the faux we're religious too meme is going be nauseating.

Note to Dems trying to court the religious vote. we don't want to hear religious quotes every five minutes for the sake of hearing religious quotes or prayer or whatever. We just want to go about praying as we always do and we want you to leave us alone when we do it.

  9. T-Rav

If there is fraud it will be too late even if proved other than to put people in jail.

The rule in Florida is that you have to be at the poll and see the individual trying to vote. You have to have evidence the vote is fraudulent and you have to challenge the vote then and there to the poll worker. Then they will allow the person to vote but the ballot will be separated form the others and adjudicated by authorities later. IF it is found to fraudulent then the vote will not be counted.

In Florida this is the only way a fraudulent vote can be stopped. If the person has already voted and you find out after the fact the person can be charged with a crime but the fraudulent vote will count in the election.

Every candidate is allowed one Poll Watcher at a precinct who may inspect the voting procedure.

When working on the Mark little Campaign in '94 we had very real concerns of voter fraud. Corrine Brown had 10 precincts all gerrymandered around Hud Housing projects that voted 95% to 99% of the roles and she got 96 to 98% of the vote. This was not the general. This was the Democratic primary against a popular black democrat. we knew those results were not real.

  10. i'm bugging out for a bit. I've reached my threshold of stupidity on facebook and the internets in general. i've pre-posted today and tomorrow...and then we'll see how long we wait for recounts.

May God bless our efforts to turn the tide.

    See y'all on the flipside.

  11. I voted. And it had nothing to do with revenge and everything to do with the direction of the country.

  12. I'm with T-Rav; I am hopeful and worried all wrapped up together: entwined, enmeshed, and enauseated. I have to go vote tomorrow morning. Overall, TX is pretty red, so it's almost frustrating that my little vote-drop in the sea can't help push R/R over the hump somewhere more difficult...
[But I do not support the removal of the Electoral College]

  13. Here is some funny stuff from SNL poking fun at Bloomberg and Christie http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8TFuOW4wHDo

Bloomberg's signer has become an internet sensation because she was much more interesting that Bloomberg droning on and on and on...

  14. I think the "voting is the best revenge" comment shows a really twisted mindset. It totally reinforces this idea that leftist politics is about being vindictive, as in "we need to use the government to take from those other people."

  15. I made a small contribution yesterday in getting a friend of mine to vote Republican for MO Senate. He was already going to vote for Romney, but he said he didn't think he could mark the oval for Akin after that brouhaha. I told him I sympathized, but we had to think bigger--everything control of the Senate entails. He eventually agreed and said he would vote for the guy. (proud of myself)

  16. Anthony, I agree, there's likely little real voter fraud. I think, however, it's important that we fix the system for the sake of credibility.

I agree about early voting... great stuff.

  17. Jed, I'm doing an election wrap up today and I think all the evidence outside the polls (which are unreliable) point to both sides knowing Romney has won.

  18. Nice work T-Rav. Sadly, we will need that seat.

  19. So:
    -Romney wins White House
    -GOP keeps House
-Senate is anybody's guess (Fingers crossed for Coattails).

  20. Kit, I've got more on the Senate and House later today as well.

  21. T-Rav, good job, and that's a great reminder that every single office is about something bigger than the person holding it. Even the presidency. Much of the reason why our politics and our economy are a mess is because people are voting for the candidate over what the candidate espouses.

That isn't to say there isn't a share of folks voting for feel-good entitlements. But looking at the response to Obama in '08, I'd say there are a lot more folks just voting for a "cool dude" rather than a serious executive/legislator/whateverthecasemaybe.

  22. Anybody hear of the "Redskin Rule"? Sorry, don't have time to elaborate, gotta run. I just heard it though, and wanted to share.

  23. This is the way I see it - We either keep going on the same track which means that the MSM keeps not reporting the any news about the WH...and comedians continue to refuse to lampoon the present administration and will continue to not be funny...and we at CommentaramaPolitics and beyond have 4 more years of hard work ahead...and we will be embroiled in an impeachment scenario unlike any that we have seen...

    OR

We get to go in a new direction...the MSM will be reporting every detail and every mistep as a major flaw of the Romney Administration...comedians start doing political commentary again lampooning our government...AND we at CommentaramaPolitics and beyond will still have 4 years of hard work ahead of us.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Yes, Jen, no incumbent has won the election if the home team loses the game right before the election...the Redskins lost yesterday.

  25. Bev, It does seem to be in the MSM's interest to get Romney elected, doesn't it?

  26. Like T-Rav, I´m really really nervous. In the past year I have developed sleeping problems. It´s becoming chronic, I´m down to about 4 hours most nights. Nothing to do with politics (I think) but this is NOT helping!

I think Romney will make it, but it is never a good sign when you´re arguing with the polls. Given Obama´s lousy record and low behavior, it should not be close. Man, do I hate the media. "If all of them had but one neck" ... yes, I´m channeling Caligula and I mean it, too.

Even if Romney wins, over 47% of the country will have voted for divisiveness, dependency, racial resentment, socialism, poverty, national humiliation. Reading Anthony´s story about those children, it´s all of a piece. This is who we are becoming? Count me out.

  27. Thank you, thank you. I do what I can (which unfortunately is considerably less now than in '08). I will be fairly shocked if Akin wins the Senate race here, but it is now margin of error, so...we'll see.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Personally, I wish the Redskins would ALWAYS lose. So, don't go tryin' to make me want them to win in 4 years!!!!

Have you seen all the possible messes out of Ohio? It cold be a long week - let alone a long Tuesday! But I hope that, if the D's manage big-time shenanigans, R/R won't concede, and will let the truth be found!

    ReplyDelete
  29. El Gordo - But then again, There is a glass half-full aspect too! If Romney wins that means there are more people who believe that it is "We The People" and will have voted for coming back together and for hope that we can all get along and just get going again.

  30. If RR wins, it will be a relief that the American idea can move out of the ICU back to just an ordinary hospital room.

I'll miss the fact, however, that if a Democrat is in office the general cultural tone becomes much less of a blinding spitting hatred of all things Republican to something closer to grumpy annoyance.
