Handicapping The State Of The Union

So Obama’s “big” State of the Union is tonight. I’m not watching it because I’d rather have my fingernails ripped out. I suspect many of you won’t bother either. The truth is that nothing he says will matter because no real legislation is going to get out of the Congress and the things his supporters want aren’t things he can deliver through regulations. Still, that doesn’t stop the left from dreaming.

There have been a bunch of articles lately outlining all the things leftists want Obama to deliver, and they think the SOTU will be the speech that starts the ball rolling. Here’s your scorecard of what the left thinks is coming:

Gays. Gays want Obama to force everyone to grant benefits to gay partners. However, this would require significant new legislation. The best Obama can do is extend benefits to federal employees, which he hasn’t done yet. He may do that. Also, the Pentagon is about to extend benefits to the partners of gay soldiers.

Angry Chicks. Feminists want an “equal pay” bill which would allow the federal government to establish wages throughout the economy by declaring jobs to be “comparable” and then forcing employers to pay the same to those professions. However, that would require a constitutional change, so forget it. The Democrats keep dangling legislation to do this on a smaller scale, but that won’t pass either. The fallback demand now is to extend the Family Medical Leave Act to small business. Again, that requires legislation, so forget it.

Environmentalists Environmentalists are praying that Obama revive the cult of global warming. They are particularly furious that he’s been focusing on energy production to please the proles, when he should be promising to shut down the economy. They are hoping Obama will use the EPA to issue regulations shutting down the US economy. I suspect Obama will do some of this. . . at least, to the extent it helps Obama donor G.E.

Hispanics. Hispanic groups are hoping Obama demands immediate, unconditional citizenship for all illegals. This one will be interesting. If Obama wants to grant them citizenship, then he could embrace the Rubio bill and get it done – though there will be some conditions. But Obama also is a grandstanding jerk, and he’s likely to throw a huge wrench into this debate by laying down impossible demands and conditions and attacking Rubio.

Gun nuts. Obama’s left flank has gone insane over gun control, even as the public’s interest in the issue has faded and as the NRA has been declared the winner by liberal media groups. Indeed, I had to laugh at an rather defeatist article the other day which noted that the DEMOCRATS in the Senate would kill any real reform. Ha ha. I would look for Obama to grandstand on this issue now because it’s safe for him to do since no bill will ever reach his desk.

As an interesting aside, California Democrats are already way over-playing their hand on this issue. California and New York have entered into a competition to have the strongest anti-gun laws. California Democrats are trying to up New York by proposing to ban all guns that can hold more than one bullet at a time and forcing people to pass background checks to buy ammo. Sadly for them, with there being no GOP in California, they may need to act on their words. That could be the kind of overreach that finally revives the GOP in California... assuming they give up on the immigration issue.

Others. Interestingly, I haven’t heard much from unions. I’m not sure why. Perhaps they are satiated from their prior plundering. . . or they were just too lazy to put their demands together. Peaceniks seem pretty silent too now that Obama has become the Drone Warrior in Chief. And for some reason, blacks seem to be pretty quiet suddenly -- which is actually rather interesting given the massive levels of unemployment in the black community.

All in all, there are several things to consider when handicapping what Obama will say tonight:
1) He wants a legacy and he seems to have decided his legacy will be based on talking really far left. BUT...

2) He needs to be careful not to give his supporters what they want. If they get what they want, then they’ll go away and stop supporting him. Thus, he can only give them token changes.

3) His administration seems very worried about jobs because he doesn’t want to be known as the guy who presided over eight years of recession. So he absolute will not want anything that could slow the economy, i.e. nothing liberal.
The best way to satisfy these goals would be for Obama to give an angry leftist speech which lays out a laundry list of BIG demands that have no chance of getting passed because they require Congress to act. That way, his supporters will feel placated, but there’s no real risk of anything happening that could hurt the economy or satiate his supporters so they go home. That’s my guess. And I think his supporters will lap it up like idiots who don’t realize they’ve been sold a bill of goods.

Thoughts?

  1. you are right, I ignored this guy. He is a liar, and he is depressing. We will see how the immigration thing plays out

  2. Jed, Yep. The man is a liar. I suspect that the only people who will really pay attention Tuesday night will be his leftist supporters who are looking for for him to say the magic words their particularly groups want to hear. The real test will be if he actually promises them things they can get or if he goes way over the top and promises them the moon. I'm thinking he will promise them the moon and then deliver nothing.

  3. Bleh. There's "Big Bang Theory," "Castle" and who knows what else on cable tomorrow night. Frankly, I don't think I can stand to watch this @#$%er take a victory lap, so it's going to be a pure accident if I watch.

  4. His administration seems very worried about jobs because he doesn’t want to be known as the guy who presided over eight years of recession.

I have to disagree with this. He's been "pivoting to jobs" for 4+ years now and hasn't met with his jobs council for the last 2. And as he said, the private sector is doing fine. (sarc off)

Secondly, there's a fair chance that the economy is going to go back into recession based on increased taxes and Obamacare finally kicking in.

Finally, Obama got re-elected after a disastrous so called "recovery" so why would he worry about it now? In fact, the worse the economy is, the more likely he'll get the political clout to do something radical to "help" it.

  5. Based on recent headlines I'd say the black community's big concern right now is gun control/stand your ground.

This weekend saw the funeral of 15 year old 15-year-old Hadiya Pendleton (an honor student who performed at Obama's inarguration was was killed in a case of mistaken identity) and an event commerating what would have been Trayvon Martin's 18th birthday (killed by a play cop, initially let off by the system).

The circumstances of neither case bear much resemblance to the overwhelming majority of black homicide cases (drug dealers/gang members killed by rivals, whose deaths are less of a tragedy than their lives) but that is probably why people care more.

Of course, gun control simply won't happen outside of Democratics strongholds because the public consensus isn't there. If one fears the government is going to storm your home any day and take your property, other private citizens' misuse of guns isn't likely to cause you to countenance any infringement on your 2nd Amendment rights.

To placate/distract feminists, Obama will probably go after Republicans on abortion.

If he were really Machiavellian (or naive, which we know he's not) Obama would support Rubio because it looks like the Republican party is set to cut Rubio off at the knees.

By praising Rubio for his willingness to 'do the right thing' before the Republicans took him down, Obama would kill two birds with one stone. *Shrugs* But that would run the risk of the Republican party passing the legislation, so Obama will probably do nothing.

Obama is utterly unserious about the economy and the deficit. I just read that he is now refusing to agree to a slight raise of the retirement age, something he agreed to at one point, so I expect nothing on those fronts.

As for gays, the only party that welcomes them is the Democratic party, so they won't go anywhere even if Obama doesn't go as far as they want.

    ReplyDelete
  6. Andrew...I think you hit it on the head. He will create straw man arguments..."They want to do this and I WILL NOT let them do that to you and your children."

Toss out legal sounding constitutional arguments..."No where in the Constitution does it address the issues facing you and your families today with the MASSIVE amounts of assault weapons in criminals hands."

And then propose some unconstitutional "common sense, fair-minded solutions" that immediately puts the Republicans arguments as beholden to the "extreme, right-wing" agenda, that by gosh he was just elected to ensure our beautiful country will never adopt such job killing, environmentally insane disastrous policies.

Equality will probably be a big theme of course, and all he's trying to do is right past wrongs in the face of extreme opposition that want us to return to the days when women stayed home, blacks were treated as slaves and gays were murdered if they dared admit they had tendencies as they write their rainbow and unicorn children's stories!

And he WILL NOT allow this great country return to such racist, bigoted, misogynist days...not since he was re-elected to fight these extreme haters.

Thank you and God Bless America

  7. K - you may have missed that
Obama disbanded his "Jobs Council" last week.

As an aside, wouldn't it be cool if Rubio responded with "Yeah, okay, let's do it your way and see what happens. ALL of it. Thank you and good night.!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Bev, you should write for Rubio!!

I am thrilled to say (for probably the first time ever) that I have Practicum meeting, a client appt, and a report to write tonight - therefore, I will be unavailable for the SOTU.

(does anyone else think "STFU" when they see "SOTU"?)

    ReplyDelete
  9. T-Rav, Don't forget the Westminster Dog Show. It's night 2 tonight.

    ReplyDelete
  10. K, He's worried about the economy. There are a lot of reports of tension and anger from the administration that the economy isn't doing better. There was even an interesting interview the other day where Obama sounded befuddled that the economy hasn't recovered.

Liberal economic theory holds that whatever you do to the economy, it will recover quickly and move on. That hasn't happened and I think they're worried.

Also, don't forget, getting re-elected and having a legacy are two different things. Obama, like the rest, is now worried about writing his place in history and right now his history will look a lot like Jimmy Carter's.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Anthony, On blacks, that could be. I just don't see any real demands coming from that community at the moment.

Abortion won't work for feminists because they already have abortion. They want "equal pay" now and they aren't going to get it. And like I said, I see a lot of push to get the FMLA expanded.

On gays, you're right. The Republican party spits out so much obsessive hate at them that they won't switch parties. But if they get the things they want, then they will leave politics. That's the danger for most of Obama's groups -- once the gives them what they want, they stop caring about the rest of the tribes they've banned together with. So it's not YES/NO, it's YES/NO/I'mGONE which he needs to worry about.

The problem with praising Rubio is exactly what you say -- he could end up sharing credit with the Republicans, which would be bad for him. I think he knows that and, ultimate, his goal is to make Rubio into a bad guy and then pass his plan without him -- hoping that Rubio agrees to the "new plan."

Don't mistake stupid with not worried. Obama is worried about the economy, his ideology just doesn't work to help him.

On deficit reduction, no Obama doesn't care and truthfully, few people do except in the abstract.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Patriot, Well said! That's exactly what I see happening tonight. His goal will be to use really stunning rhetoric to smear the Republicans because it excites his base. And at the same time, he'll make promises and propose ideas that his base will love... only they will never happen. It's the perfect world for him because it makes him "loved" by the left, who will always remember him fondly, and it doesn't put him a trap where he satiates his supporters and they stop caring about him.

I think you hit nail right on the head.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Bev: I missed that. No surprise I guess, it was an embarrassment in the campaign so time to sweep it under the rug.

Andrew:Maybe Obama should read Shlaes book on the great depression. His (actually Pelosi and Reid's) restructuring of the health system is just coming on line which is screwing business and with the tax increases we're looking at a repeat of 1936.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Bev, LOL! I don't think Rubio would do that. Actually, Rubio has somehow managed to grab most of the credit for immigration reform and that's an impressive deal. If the rest of the party would just shut the heck up about it and follow his lead, that would wipe out that 70% gap with Hispanics overnight. But I doubt that will happen.

More interesting to me will be if Obama embraces Rubio or tries to push him aside. I think Obama will push him aside because he doesn't want there to be the "Rubio Amnesty of 2013."

Yeah, I saw that his Jobs Council left town. They were a waste anyway. My guess is that they told him things he didn't want to hear and so he lost interest.

    ReplyDelete
  15. rlaWTX, I have a hard time reading SOTU without thinking of STFU. Absolutely!

Congrats on advancing your career! :)

    ReplyDelete
  16. K, I think that Obama is repeating everything that failed during the Great Depression (and other periods), but his ideology tells him it should work. That's why I think he's surprised. I think that's also why he's getting increasingly angry at private enterprise because he thinks they're sabotaging him by not creating jobs.

    ReplyDelete
  17. rlaWTX and Andrew - I have a hard time listening to OR reading the SOTU without SAYING STFU repeatedly over and over and...well, you get the idea. As a matter of fact ANYTIME I see or hear Obama I have the same Tourette's-like reaction...

rlaWTX - I second that Congrats!

    ReplyDelete
  18. Bev, Yeah, same here. LOL! I get the same Tourette's symptoms. What's ironic is that I was actually prepared to give him a chance in 2008, but he really lost me day after day. At this point, I have nothing but contempt for him.

    ReplyDelete
  19. I'm not watching. No way. STFU is right!

    ReplyDelete
  20. DUQ, You'll get no argument from me! I can't watch this one.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Hey, but this should be entertaining! Some of our esteemed Democrat Congresscritters are bringing known illegal aliens/undocumented workers with them to the SOTU/STFU event. Wouldn't this be a good time to call the IRS to meet them at the entrance? Maybe they can audit them right on the spot and collect unpaid taxes on unreported income. Maybe audit the Congresscritters too while we're at it.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Bev, That's one angle the illegal immigrant lobby isn't going to like... they're all going to get taxed now.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Seems only right that in return for their years of fear and being oppressed, they should be exempt from having to pay taxes. Or any other obligations.

    ReplyDelete
  24. when I say "I'm uninvolved with Barrack, believe it." I think the fact I assumed this was last night, and not tonight, says it all. Ah, but there is yet another silver lining. The brand new Blu-Ray of Skyfall is in the house, so sorry Mr. President, I guess I still won't be tuning in, after all. Some things are better left unseen (like a presidential preen!)

    ReplyDelete
  25. T-Rav, No, that's one thing they won't get. The Democrats want their money just like they want everyone else's money. Taxes are God's gift to all of us.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Jed, Best of luck with your television choices. I've heard very good things about the film, but haven't seen it yet.

    ReplyDelete
  27. FYI, they apparently have that cop killer holed up in a cabin somewhere and are in a shootout. It would be impolite to suggest that the police should get away from the cameras and then spare the public any more time in the limelight for this guy. So I won't suggest that.

    ReplyDelete
  28. T-Rav, I think they should send in an army of grief counselors. They could surround the cabin and sing a happy song until he surrenders. :)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Maybe he heard Charlie Sheen's video beseeching the killer to call and they could work something out.

I just hope no more cops are killed.

    ReplyDelete
  30. Hopefully the cop killer will take a bullet and spare us the cost of trying and executing him

    ReplyDelete
  31. To lighten things up:
I was just watching the end of Teen Jeopardy. And on the Final Jeopardy question, the question was "In June 7, 1944, he said 'The eyes of the world are on you'" The last kid gave the best answer I have ever seen on Jeopardy -
"The guy at Normandy, but I don't care because I just won 75,000 dollars!" [Real answer: Eisenhower] It was probably the best winning answer I have ever seen! It makes me laugh!

    ReplyDelete
  32. Bev and Anthony, Let's hope it all ends well.

    ReplyDelete
  33. Yay! I got my internets fixed. I'm no longer a cyber-hermit! Maybe I'm a masochist, or maybe I'm just looking for any excuse to drink, but I'm gonna be watching tonight. I'm particularly interested in the Rubio response. The fact that he was put up to offer the response tells me that the GOP is maybe not too likely to cut Rubio down even if Obama finds something nice to say about him.

    ReplyDelete
  34. Apparently, "supporters" of the ex-cop have shown up in the vicinity with signs and everything. This must be what the final collapse of society looks like.

    ReplyDelete
  35. tryanmax, Welcome back to the world of eliving! Feel free to give us a report. I'm watching the dogs.

    ReplyDelete
  36. T-Rav, There are people who worship celebrity. There always have been and there always will be.

    ReplyDelete
  37. "I will defeat Boss Jim Gettys!!"

Wait, that's from Citizen Kane which is on TCM. (The speech scene ended a few minutes ago.)

    :-)

Re: Dorner, some people have put up signs saying, "Don't shoot - I'm not him!" Seriously.

    ReplyDelete
  38. Well, I already had to turn away from NBC coverage. If I could sum up all their commentary, it would be, "Why won't the Republicans just DIE!?"

    ReplyDelete
  39. tryanmax, I'm not surprised. If only there were no Republicans, Obama would deliver us unto paradise.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Scott, I haven't looked into what this guy did or what supposedly makes him a hero, but it's probably wise not to be confused for him.

    ReplyDelete
  41. SOTU Intro: Everything is fine, all the problems are fixed, all the crises are averted---BUT, the American dream remains elusive for too many. Now is the time for compromise.

    ReplyDelete
  42. SOTU Part I: Deficit Reduction.

There's nothing to cut, so don't ask. Eat the Rich.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I'm pretty sure Joe Biden is picking his nose right now. (Not that there's anything wrong with that....)

    ReplyDelete
  44. SOTU Part II: Economic Growth.

    1. Invest in stuff.

    2. ?????

    3. Win!

    ReplyDelete
  45. SOTU Part III: Climate Change.

    The debate is still over.

    ReplyDelete
  46. SOTU Part IV: Energy.

All of the above. Except oil and coal.

    ReplyDelete
  47. SOTU Part V: Infrastructure.

    WPA 2: Electric Boogaloo

    ReplyDelete
  48. SOTU Part VI: Housing.

Honestly, I don't know what he said.

    ReplyDelete
  49. SOTU Part VII: Education.

Public Pre-School, Technical High Schools, and a meaningless proposal to make college more affordable.

    ReplyDelete
  50. tryanmax, Stay away from sharp objects my friend!

    ReplyDelete
  51. SOTU Part VIII: Immigration Reform.

"Now is the time!" ...for Obama to position himself to the right of Marco Rubio.

Pledges to sign any "comprehensive" bill Congress sends. Watch for that to be the sticking point in whatever goes unsigned.

    ReplyDelete
  52. SOTU Part IX: Women.

Make equally equal pay more equally equal.

    ReplyDelete
  53. SOTU Part X: Minimum Wage.

Tie the minimum wage to the cost of living.

    ReplyDelete
  54. SOTU Part XI: The Surrender in Afghanistan.

    It's on track!

    ReplyDelete
  55. SOTU Part XII: The War on Terror.

"Don't say 'drones.' Don't say 'drones.' Don't say 'drones.'"

    ReplyDelete
  56. tryanmax, This is quite a public service. It sounds like Obama would have given a five minute speech if he ran it by you.

I particularly like the "Afghan surrender is on track." LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  57. SOTU Part XIII: National Security.

We need to secure the Internet.

    ReplyDelete
  58. SOTU Part XIV: Foreign Relations:

    NAFTA 2: European Vacation

    ReplyDelete
  59. SOTU Part XV: Foreign Relations, con't.

Poverty, disease, injustice, oppression, war. Somebody should do something about that stuff. Maybe it's us.

    ReplyDelete
  60. SOTU Part XVI: Military.

We will invest in technology, provide equal pay, eliminate discrimination, provide better health care, give education and job opportunities, and--if there is enough time--defend America.

    ReplyDelete
  61. SOTU Part XVII: Voting Rights.

Waiting in line sucks. It sucks so bad, in fact, that the American people demand we get rid of lines at the polling place.

Seriously, this is all he's got?

    ReplyDelete
  62. Why am I sensing more than a little cynicism in your interpretation?

    ReplyDelete
  63. SOTU Part XVIII: The Main Event: GUNS!!!

    "They deserve a vote!"

I won't need to elaborate, that's obviously meant to be the catch-phrase of the hour. You'll understand tomorrow.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Andrew, if you're referring to Part XVII, there is no cynicism. Obama actually said "Americans demand" that something be done about lines at polling places.

    Oh, and BTW...

SOTU Part XIX: Waiting in line really sucks when you're 100 years old.

    ReplyDelete
  65. SOTU Conclusion.

Fluff, puff, platitude, and God Bless America!

    ReplyDelete
  66. I have to say, Andrew, you handicapped SOTU very well. If anything, Obama addressed less than you predicted he would.

    ReplyDelete
  67. tryanmax -

If I ever run for office, I'm borrowing your line for my slogan:

Fluff, puff, platitude, and God Bless America! :-)

    ReplyDelete
  68. ScottDS, you're only allowed to borrow my lines if you make me head speech writer. ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  69. tryanmax, Thanks. I don't think it was actually that hard to predict his SOTU/STFU. If you think about what his goals are, it all makes sense. I'm a little amazed there wasn't anything more specific and angrier.

My comment about your cynical interpretation was actually a general observation. :)

    ReplyDelete
  70. I can't wait for them to introduce a bill allowing anyone over 99 years old to cut to the front of the line to vote! :)

    ReplyDelete
  71. Actually, I was just trying really hard to make it sound like Obama was actually saying something.

    ReplyDelete
  72. I figured he wouldn't say anything substantive, just a lot of "we need to fix these evil things... wink, wink."

I wonder if he supporters will be all excited tonight or if they'll realize they've been taken for a ride.

    ReplyDelete
  73. Killer line from Rubio: "Anyone in favor of keep Medicare the way it is today is in favor of bankrupting it."

    ReplyDelete
  74. So Andrew - Which dog to do you like at Westminster?

    ReplyDelete
  75. That's a good line. I wonder if the Democrats care though? They seem to have realized they lost old people so they don't really care about them anymore.

    ReplyDelete
  76. Bev, I'm struggling. All my favorites are gone. So I'm probably going with the Old English Sheepdog.

    What about you?

    ReplyDelete
  77. I like the affenpincher. He's spunky! I really like the Great Dane, but he didn't make it.

    ReplyDelete
  78. OMG! Diane Sawyer, after Rubio wrapped his speech, came on lilting, "Well, there you have it! Marco Rubio...in the spotlight." in the most condescending tone you can imagine.

    ReplyDelete
  79. As an aside, it looks like Dorner is dead. It looks like he shot himself.

    ReplyDelete
  80. tryanmax, I really liked that line. Put the ball in the Democrats' court; that's what we should have been doing all along.

    ReplyDelete
  81. Bev, I like the affenpincher. I was hoping for a dachshund or the lab, but neither made it.

    ReplyDelete
  82. NOt the portuguese water dog though. THat's what Ohama's "family" (no, not for photo ops at all!) dog.

    ReplyDelete
  83. Dorner's dead? Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.

    ReplyDelete
  84. tryanmax, Diane Sawyer is a drunk and a fool, and the MSM is so partisan that I think things like that only reinforce their bias.

T-Rav, It's about time they put the ball in the Democrats' court. For whatever reason, the Republicans seem to want to do all the work and take all the blame.

    ReplyDelete
  85. Bev, Agreed. Down with the Obama dog!

    ReplyDelete
  86. T-Rav, That's what the AP is reporting - suicide.

    ReplyDelete
  87. "Reserve Best in Show"?

    And the Affenpinscher WINS!!!!!

    ReplyDelete
  88. They said earlier the "Reserve" best in show was a new thing. I guess it's in case the winner ends up being disqualified for a sex scandal or drug testing or something.

    ReplyDelete
  89. As for Dorner. Did anyone think it could end any other way but suicide?

    ReplyDelete
  90. Nuts. I was hoping Dorner would end up in a federal rape-me-in-the-@$$ prison.

    ReplyDelete
  91. Andrew, do I sense a new TLC show?

    ReplyDelete
  92. "the winner ends up being disqualified for a sex scandal or drug testing or something."

LOL!! That's what I was thinking. OR turns out to be a CAT in disguise. You know how those cats are!!

    ReplyDelete
  93. Bev, Nope. That's how these things always end. Although, in this case, I could have seen him trying to use his trial as a way to tell his story.

tryanmax, Like "Housewives of the Westminster Dog Show"?

    ReplyDelete
  94. I was thinking more like "Terriers in Tiaras"

    ReplyDelete
  95. "Best In Show"...oh, wait, that's been done already.

    ReplyDelete
  96. Bev, I have to say that I was really disappointed in "Best in Show." In many ways, it wasn't biting enough for what it was trying to achieve, in other ways it was just nasty. It struck me as a movie that was really bitter and felt unreal.

    ReplyDelete
  97. rlaWTX, In this age of DVR, there is no excuse for missing one of my fine speeches.

    ReplyDelete
  98. Andrew -

Since the subject came up (for some reason)...

...Best in Show is actually my favorite of those movies. It's not perfect but there's enough in there to keep my smiling and there's something inherently funny about crazy desperation.

"Don't look at the fat-ass losers or freaks, LOOK AT MEEE!!!"

    ReplyDelete
  99. Scott, I'm not at all a fan of Christopher Guest's films. I don't like his pacing or his acting. I think dialog is weak and relies on you to assume things are funny from the circumstances rather than being funny, and I never get the sense that his parody is ever really parodying something real so much as trying to give the audience a lite-version of what the audience expects.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Fair enough, though I'm sure you know the dialogue is improvised, right? :-)

(I know that doesn't negate your criticism but these movies are written in the editing room.)

    ReplyDelete
  101. T-Rav, He's the writer/director who did "Best In Show." He also did "Waiting for Guffman," which I really hated. He was the six-fingered man in "Princess Bride" and he was in "Spinal Tap" also.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Scott, That's probably what causes the problem. The dialog is disjointed, disconnected and "expected." And I understand that a lot of people do like his movie, but I really don't. I also can't stand Eugene Levy who appears in all of his films.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Well, you called it, Andrew. The left doesn't know it's been had.

From what I've heard so far, they sincerely believe that Obama called for action on gun control last night when all he did was beg for a vote--a vote he must know will come down against anything substantive.

They are also convinced that he set forth a bold environmental agenda. And while he did assert that he will act through executive orders if Congress does not produce a "solution to climate change" the picture he painted of that solution looks just like it has for decades: reduce pollution, transition to sustainable energy.

And as far as immigration reform, which was supposed to also be a top-ranking issue, I haven't heard anything at all. Maybe it's because he spoke like a Republican on border security and citizenship pathway. In fact, it almost sounds like amnesty is off the table.

    I'm having a good morning.

  104. tryanmax, LOL! I am not the least bit surprised. Obama simply can't give his supporters what they want or he risks losing their support. Once a single issue person gets their issue solved... they go home.

And he's in the perfect position to play this game -- he can promise anything and then blame those big meanie Republicans.

It's total fraud. But his people aren't smart enough to see that.
