Caption This and other stuff...

Okay, it's been a while since we've had a laugh, but this week I think I need one. I mean, President Obama expressed to the world that his biggest worry is a possible nuclear holocaust in New York City. I mean, it is something we all think about, but did he really have to issue a challenge? Greeeaaat. Thanks. Oh, well...

Anyway, I'm not going down without a good laugh, so who better to make that happen than Nancy Pelosi!

Or if Nancy is just too easy, then did you hear the one about how there just would not be anymore Obamacare deadline delays? Yep, they couldn't/shouldn't/just wouldn't extend the March 31st deadline to sign up, but...

Oh, well, yeah, they did. Of course, it would have surprised me more is if they didn't delay. Oh, Harry Reid says it's because “people are not educated about how to use the internet” and it's the Koch brother's fault. [Okay, he didn't blame the Kochs, but he will, just wait!] I wish they had thought about that whole internet issue before they spent hundreds of billions of tax dollars developing those websites, but hey, who could have predicted, right?

So do your stuff.

Oh, and these might interest you:

1. Another New York legislator was arrested in a big multi-state corruption sting that included the new Mayor of Charlotte and a California state legislator...all Democrats.California state Sen. Leland Yee (D) and Charlotte Mayor Patrick Cannon (D), and raided the offices of New York state Assemblyman William Scarborough (D) in connection with unrelated corruption investigations. I have to give credit to HuffingtonPost. They actually revealed the party of each in the first paragraph. That's progress, right?

2. It has now been two weeks since I queried all of my elected officials if they had signed up for insurance through any of the Obamacare exchanges. No responses yet.

  1. Bev, I would say that Pelosi is good at Jazz Hands, but Sebelius is not.

  2. Or perhaps, Pelosi is showing us how she cleans doorknobs at her home and Sebelius is out of guesses at what Pelosi is doing, having use the "call a friend" lifetime to reach Obama and him refusing to answer.

    ReplyDelete
  3. And that's about the nicest thing you can say about either of them....LOL!

  4. Bev, I'm not a miracle worker... it doesn't get any nicer than that without divine intervention. ;-)

  5. Pelosi: " I know I never actually READ the law myself. You are telling me I just got de-selected by a death squad??? OMG, Nooooooooo!

Sibelius : I know you folks are just itching to airbrush out everything above the knuckle except my middle finger aren't you? Look, I'll accept the blame, just not the responsibility. And remember, our side writes the history books so blow off.

  7. I love how Harry Reid blamed the public's stupidity for Obamacare's woes. He literally stated that the wildly expensive website was crashing repeatedly for people because they didn't understand the internet well enough (?!).

Good luck with the midterms guys :).

Encouragingly, Nate Silver, the liberal number cruncher who called the 2012 elections, predicts a 2014 win for the Republicans (which means that his past admirers have become his enemies and his past enemies have become his admirers).

"We have hundreds of thousands of people who tried to sign up and they didn't get through," Reid said during a press conference, before describing the difficulties people have with the Internet in general.

"There are some people who are not like my grandchildren who can handle everything so easily on the Internet, and these people need a little extra time. ... The example they gave us is a 63-year-old woman came into the store and said, 'I almost got it. Every time I just about got there, it would cut me off.' We have a lot of people just like this through no fault of the Internet, but [because] people are not educated on how to use the Internet," he said.

The California anti-2nd amendment congress-critter getting nailed on a gun trafficking charge is so cool.....but of course, nothing on MSNBC this morning or on CBS...they're still talking about that airliner or the mudslide...I hate to be this way, but I'm hoping for a real conservative torqued off SOB Republican to get POTUS and use the DOJ to go after these crooks, thugs and deadbeats.

  9. I was reading about Patrick Cannon and according to Mediaite, it was a plot involving, uh... feminine products.

I think the makers of American Hustle should purchase the rights to this story. They could have another hit on their hands. :-)

  10. Anthony - Reid's statement made me laugh. Really, he just called most of the elderly and pretty much everyone idiots. I want that played over and over and over during the next 6 months. As in "This is what your Democrat Congress members think of you...your idiots".

    ReplyDelete
  11. OMG, Scott - That is priceless. I have been reading about Yee all morning. It's like ABSCAM For The 21st Century. The "Hustle" writers can make a sequel - American Hustle -The 2nd (Amendment). At least when Republicans get brought down it's because of some personal sexual hypocrisy like frequenting prostitutes while representing the Moral Majority. But buying and selling guns and rocket launchers from known terrorist groups - OOOOOH, he's got some 'splainin' to do!

  12. This awakens me to the next reality. The Democrats snapped up the era of cool, but we're fast moving out of it. The next prize is to conquer the era of tech-savvy. The Dems still take an early lead with their flashy, mobile-ready, HTML5 campaign pages. But if the unsexy back-end doesn't work, well... But can the GOP make their brand synonymous with tech? I'm not ready to make any predictions.

In other news, the IRS killed Bitcoin on Tuesday. Basically by determining Bitcoin to be a property subject to capital gains tax, they killed its fungiblity. Bitcoin may continue to exist, but no longer as a currency.

Also, we are one step closer to the inevitable Cylon takeover (if you accept the Caprica timeline). Facebook wants to get literally in your face so they've now snapped up Occulus Rift.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Tryanmax - I read about the bitcoin IRS thingy. See, this is what happens when you try to create your own virtual-world currency. The real world intrudes. I think this is what happened to "Second Life" years ago. There were people setting up virtual money making enterprises and banks. Then the real world IRS came in and told them that any currency that they make/trade/create is subject to real world taxes. They did that to Hollywood 'gift bags" too. I think when the IRS started calculating that those Oscar gift bags were worth in the neighborhood of $50K each, they started making rules on how they could be taxed as "income".

Yeah, the bottom line is that the IRS spoils everythi...uh...I just heard a knock on my internet. Whoooo IS it?

    ReplyDelete
  14. Oh, and T-max - I HOPE that the RNC et al can get their tech savvy-ness up to snuff because it's killin' us right now. I mean, we must learn to us boys in feetie pajamas and frat-boy humor effectively. And I really mean that. We need to hit the web hard.

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bev, I'd all but forgotten about Second Life, but I'm sure it's still fresh in the minds of many. One of the most interesting aspects of the internet is how it opens up rich possibilities for means of exchange which circumvent taxation. Right now, the IRS can easily play catch up to the few that become noteworthy, but time will only make that harder. Completely different tax structures will have to be contemplated as the internet age goes forward.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Bev, frat-boy humor, yes, but Pajama Boy, as he's come to be known, was mocked mercilessly. Unfortunately, the GOP decided to chase the latter trail and came up with THIS and THIS. Not quite as cringe-worthy as PJ, but still...

If the GOP wants to reach hipsters, I've got a tagline for them: "My new favorite political party. You've probably never voted for them."

  17. Tyranmax,

Those are pretty bad. Not necessarily Pajama Boy bad but pretty bad nonetheless.

  20. Maybe this Goldberg character should be toking on his bong or doing a handstand on beer keg. "Hey, dudes, chill out...why can't we do "all of the above"? Republicans are cool."

Or leering at pretty young co-eds works too. "Hey baby, wanna come back to my place and explore my "all of the above" energy policy?"

    ReplyDelete
  21. I have no love for hipsters but the GOP will never reach them (or those who consider themselves outsiders) until guys like Gutfield and Schlichter stop writing about how hipsters are anti-American and a scourge on our society.

(Seriously, what is it with conservatives and their aversion to all things "artisan"? If someone wants to pay $20 for a local-grown tomato, what the f--- do I care?)

    ReplyDelete
  22. Scott,

I think the GOP and most conservatives, especially guys like Gutfield and Schlichter, think that all of us white Millennials, aside from those who are evangelicals or serving in the military, are a bunch of whiny, effeminate, self-entitled, Prius-driving, organic food-eating, unshaven, Bohemian hipsters who listen to Justin Bieber and whiny Indie music on their iPod while having lots of casual sex.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Oh, there is another group of Millennials aside from religious conservatives and military service members that they think is nothing like that: Their own kids.

    Unless

    ReplyDelete
  24. Unless their kid is always like that even at home.

    ReplyDelete
  25. If $20 tomatoes are what makes a hipster, then I guess I'm not. Though it is probably true that you've never heard of my new favorite band, whichever it may be this week.

I wore flannel when it was called "grunge."

Chuck Taylors were cheap when I was a kid.

Doc Martins were the thing back then.

Remember how black turtlenecks and khakis used to be a thing?

What was I talking about again?

  28. Rustbelt,

So, how is your sex life? ;-)

    ReplyDelete
  29. Scott,

Yep. Its annoying. Interestingly, it creates an interesting cycle of events: They piss off Millennials by calling them the above, Millennials decide they do not want to support people who sneer at them and vote Democrat, Conservatives take this as proof that everything they said about Millennials was right and sneer even more, and so on and so on and so on.

    Its a self-fulfilling prophecy.

  34. I was bouncing around with bad movie references. It's Birdemic. The foreign country in question MAY be California.

  37. Sounds like we need to start some sort of Millennial dating service!

  38. BTW, here's an interesting article about the Pope. It points out that despite liberals wanting to believe that he's changed Church policy, he hasn't actually changed anything they care about. It says a lot of the same things we spoke about a couple months back.

    Pope

I also note that he and Obama issues competing statements after there meeting which kind of makes Obama out as a liar.

  39. In the "more evidence" department, related to my contention that liberal feminism is dead. Check out this article and tell me if any female celebrity could have admitted this 10-15 years ago without being destroyed by feminists in the media and the industry: LINK.

Basically, in the article, Lady Gaga says that she is "submissive" to her boyfriend and that "he makes all the decisions." Here is the quote that will cause gnashing of teeth in the ranks of womyn:

"I'm in charge all day long, the last thing I want to do is tell him what to do," she explained. "It's not good for relationships to tell men what to do."

    ReplyDelete
  40. "it's not good for relationships to tell men what to do."

That is something my mother would say. I love that she said that during the Gloria Steinem's birthday celebration week...

  41. Andrew -

    Yes, we do. :-)

And I assume you agree with my thesis - a certain segment on the right will never approve of going after a demographic like mine.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I thought we already had a Millennial dating service. It's called "the Internet."

Or maybe that's just for the casual sex. I'm not sure.

The internet can't help it if you have higher standards than it does.

    ReplyDelete
  43. And I assume you agree with my thesis - a certain segment on the right will never approve of going after a demographic like mine.

But Scott it is for the same reason that a certain segment on the left would never approve of going after the Over-65 demographic. It's the "Get out of our way, grandpa. You've had your chance and screwed us all up. Now it's our turn [to screw things up]" segment...

    ReplyDelete
  44. I thought we already had a Millennial dating service. It's called "the Internet."

I thought Millennials didn't "date". Don't you just "hook up" and call it a day? Oh, wait, yeah...I get it..."daaaate", right. Nevermind.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Bev, it's the same but it's different. There's some real short-term thinking in keeping the up-and-coming generation out. The Dems are just pushing out the oldsters that are leaving one way or another. The Dems are disloyal, I'll give you that, and one day they'll be pushing out the Millennials, too. But in the meantime, they're crafting brand-loyalty with that group that the GOP is eschewing.

Worse, Gutfield et co. are inciting this circular, self-fulfilling thing where they say Millennials don't like the GOP b/c they're entitled and lazy as evidenced by the fact that they don't like the GOP. This grafts onto the "hard werkin', reel 'Mer'kan" thing in that those who identify as such refuse to recognize the achievements of Millennials.

Worked two jobs to put yourself through college? I don't see you lifting any shovel! Can't find a job with your major? You're an idiot for wasting your time and money on school! Took the job you could get but it doesn't pay? Where's your ambition!? Spending all your money on rent? What?? Too good to live in a shack!? Living at home in your 20s to save money? Lazy mooch!

    ReplyDelete
  46. Bev -

Some of us date, some of us hook up, and some of us have a nice little friends-with-benefits thing that lasts a good year till the girl expresses a romantic interest forcing the guy to admit they're just not into each other "like that" but they still manage to stay friends anyway.

Not that it happened to me, of course. :-)

I don't disagree with you but tryanmax is correct - there is vitriol directed in our direction and to be fair, some of it is certainly deserved. But I'm not in the military and I'm not religious and I live with my parents and I'm an art major (graphic design which ain't exactly women's studies)... so I might as well not exist for some of these people!

And I worked three jobs last summer to pay for it... but they were all in front of a computer and according to guys like Gutfield, et al, that's not "real work."

    ReplyDelete
  47. Bev, Her timing is pretty funny. What amazes me is the total lack of a backlash. That's why I think liberal feminism has lost its power. Had this been the 1990s, she would have been condemned by dozens of female celebrities and politicians for "sending the wrong message to both young girls and boys." Instead, people shrug.

I see that as more proof that all options are now open for women, not just the very narrow set of options that liberal feminists consider acceptable. That's why I see this as more evidence that the gender identity wars (and the race identity wars) are over... the public has adopted a sort of libertarianism and moved on.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Scott, The fringe right will never warm up to Millennials. They are in a "grumpy old bastard" mode in which they rail against the discomfort of a world that isn't like it "should be" and they see people like you... and brown people and women, as the cause. And to maintain that worldview, they are willing to invent whatever facts are needed and to deny any that go against what they believe.

You'll never break through that, especially as guys like Schlichter make a living on exploiting that worldview and feeding it.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Folks, the internet is not a toy. ;-P

    ReplyDelete
  50. Bev, I agree about the Democrats and the over-65 stuff. The Democrats are just as arrogant in their treatment of middle America -- "we know better than you! So get out of our way!"

But that doesn't work for them any better than our fringe works for us. The problem is just one of numbers. Our fringe has angered too large of a chunk of the population to keep winning elections, the Democrats haven't. And losing the Millennials is a true disaster for our side because they are already the largest group out there and they are growing every passing day as older voters die.

tryanmax, That is the self-fulfilling problem. A very clear message is sent that those people are not welcome.

  51. Andrew,

This is interesting. A UC-Santa Barbara Professor saw a group of pro-life students with pro-life banners. Some of them contained graphic imagery of aborted fetuses.

Her response was to gather a group of students and lead them in chanting "Tead down the sign!", proceed to tear off one of the banners, and, when one of the protestors tries to get it back, scratch her in a melee.

The police report is below. The professor's defense has to be seen to be believed.
