Happy Birthday, America! And Happy Independence Day to everyone else. :D
We're going to shut down for a few days here. The film site will return on Sunday July 13th and the main site will return on Monday July 14th. Enjoy your holiday. Get away from the poison of politics for a while. Find the things that are really important in life. That said, feel free to drop by to chat. I'm sure many people will be around and I may (or may not) drop an article or two in the meantime. Also, don't forget to check out our list of patriotic films at the film site, Kit's article on American Exceptionalism at the main site, and Bev's reminder of the Declaration of Independence. Good stuff.

Interesting current events quiz. It's actually kind of difficult. I got 12 of 13.

Happy Independence Day to you all!
ReplyDeleteHope your legs heals up soon, Andrew.
Thanks Ben! Sadly, I hope so because this is pretty miserable.
ReplyDeleteI hope everyone had a great 4th of July!
ReplyDeleteBack at work, recovering. LOL!
ReplyDeleteAndrew, was it the CEO of Yahoo that got you? That's the one that got me.
ReplyDeletetrynmax, No, the gay marriage thing. I misread that and thought they were talking about something else, so I was left guessing the minimum wage.
ReplyDeleteMy problem is I mostly read the news on devices that direct to mobile sites that rarely include pictures with articles. So, it irks me that knowing what somebody looks like is considered "following the news."
ReplyDeleteIt's a visual age my friend. If you can't see the visuals then you won't know that Michelle Obama is a tranny, that Tony the Tiger is actually a Great Dane who's been spray painted, and that Rick Santorum's eye has sinner's twitch. And if you didn't know those things, then you just don't know Jack. ;-)
ReplyDeleteTony the Tiger is really a Great Dane??? Everything that I hold dear has now been shattered...
ReplyDeleteI missed the "gay marriage' question too. I misread and chose "legalizing marijuana".
ReplyDeleteHoly Crap! I’m watching Brazil v. Germany. 2 goals in 2 minutes... 1 more goal a minute later. It’s 5-0 Germany at only the 29 minute mark.
ReplyDeleteP.S. Bev, Yep. Sorry.
ReplyDeleteP.S.S. Today is my birthday! Woot woot! 44!!
TOUCHDOWN Germany! 7-0
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANDREW!!!
ReplyDeleteYeah, Germany beat Brazil...badly. I expect riots to ensue.
Thanks Bev!! :D
ReplyDeleteI expect mass suicides.
Hey! Germany's victory wasn't that big. At the very end Brazil got in a goal.
ReplyDeleteSo the score was actually "7-1". Hah! (Blows raspberry)
By the way, Germany only beat us 1-0. u
Ok, that was because we have the greatest goalie in the world... apparently.
ReplyDeleteA day late, but I need to get in two things:
ReplyDeleteFirst, happy belated birthday, Andrew!
Second, now that we know it will be Argentina-Germany for the World Cup (Deutschland gehen!), I'd like to nominate a quote from the announcer of yesterday's game for "quote of the year:"
(after Germany goes up 5-0) "If this were boxing, the referee would've stopped everything by now to save Brazil from further punishment."
P.S. Some sad news for us Disney fans on the board. Dick Jones, who voiced Pinocchio in the 1940 Disney film, passed away this week. He was 87.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ANDREW!!!
ReplyDeleteA day late, so a slightly post facto Happy Birthday/welcome to Club 44!!! Halfway through the Reggie Jackson year, nice to have the company ...
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday, Andrew! Hope it was a good one!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Andrew! My birthday was this week as well.
ReplyDeleteHAPPY BIRTHDAY, ANTHONY!!!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Birthday Anthony! :)
ReplyDeleteThanks everyone!
ReplyDeleteEric, I met Reggie Jackson in 1978. He came to Tampa for a game- spring training, I think,. And he signed a baseball for me. That was one of the coolest things I owned as a kid! :)
Apparently, Silicon Valley has a booming sex industry. For some reason that is not surprising.

Kit, Nerds need love too. And paying for it increases the odds of getting it dramatically.
ReplyDelete... and of being poisoned by a hooker on your yacht.
In fairness, young guys with 'extra' money and hookers/strippers go hand in hand, whether those guys are programmers, musicians, businessmen, soldiers, actors, drug dealers or just guys born into money.
ReplyDeleteIts also worth keeping in mind that while some guys are paying for the sex, others are paying for simplicity. There are guys who will step past willing female fans to pay pros because the pros are less of a headache/danger (usually).
