Another Week of Chaos Open Thread

Hmmm, much hasn't really changed since last week. ISIS beheaded another journalist, the Ebola outbreak has spread to another country in Africa (that makes six, so far), and Russia is dabbling in nuclear war games with Ukraine as its test target. Yeah, Putin has been bragging that he could take Kiev in two weeks if he wanted to. The UN would have threatened Russia with more sanctions, but they were just too busy investigating the human-rights abuses in Ferguson, Missouri to see how they could use it against Israel.

Oh, here's something new! We droned a terrorist with great prejudice in Somalia and the Libyan terrorists were having a frat party at our abandoned Embassy compound swimming pool. Oh, did you hear the one about the 10 jetliners that have "disappeared" from the Libyan airport? Yeah, I am guessing someone may "find" them sometime around Thursday, September 11, 2014. Hey, I didn't say "Benghazi" once!

But hey, here's some good news! Obama has not been reported to have played one round of golf this week! That's a new record, right? Well, maybe he should have played a few rounds since his approval rating has now dipped to 39%. Actually it has been reported that there are big signs outside every campaign office of every Democrat running for the federal office that reads "Dear Obama, Please Stay Away". He has been doing a lot of private fund-raising for the DNC in general, but no one is particularly interested in any photo ops with him.

Any comments or reports of more chaos in your area?

UPDATE - I just read that the Democratic candidate just dropped out of the race for US Senate in Kansas against incumbant, three-term Senator Pat Roberts. Kansas is not a real "toss up" state, but it now looks like it may be solidly red.

  1. I'm starting to think that Vlad is as unhinged as the idiots running our country. You know, when one of those jetliners goes screaming into a building somewhere we'll probably get another lecture about how Islam is a religion of peace.....I'm so sick of political correctness...you want to impress your enemies,,,drink your beer from the skulls of their dead buddies..that'll impress them. When the good guys finally corner ISIS, there needs to be no mercy, none,,

  2. To me, the whole point of any of this is to get the Senate so Harry Reid is gone, his own rules can be used to keep "O" from getting anymore lib judges in, and to get total control of the budget. R's always seem to find a way to under-perform. We have, of course, talked about this at length. The Tea Party types and the radio talk show hosts blame the "moderates" of course, and the moderates blame the "base." Fundamentalists just want somebody jailed for abortion. I just want to be mostly left alone, and I want a government that promotes free market competition, and understands protecting us against all enemies both foreign and domestic.

Couldn't have said it better myself....

Has anyone ever noticed that although we have had the 2 letter state abbreviations for 40 years they still show my hometown of Memphis as "Memphis, Tenn."? in print? Odd....

  4. Bev, What could anyone possibly do with a group of commercial airliners? especially now that we know that you can effectively vanish just by turning off the tracking device. Nope, can't see any problem arising out of that. Oy.

  5. Critch - Yeah, I would say that Putin has been fighting with bears just a little too often. He certainly is out to prove his manhood. But then, Obama has everything under control. I just read that he is meeting with the Estonians and Latvians who I am sure are not too happy with Putin/Russia right now. I actually hear that the Finns are quietly moving "stuff" around to protect their eastern border just in case. Yeah, Finland - whoever thinks about Finland anymore? But then Putin has been "negotiating" with the President of Ukraine and asks those pesky pro-Russian rebels to stop blowing stuff up for awhile...they aren't really listening to him apparently.
Oh, and the French have delayed a fighter jet delivery to Russia...at least someone is doing something pro-active.

  6. TennJ - I agree with you 100%. Just leave us alone to and do what the government is constitutionally mandated to do.

  7. Speaking of commercial airliners, did you hear that Malaysia Airlines in Australia, came up with this great marketing strategy? They decided to have a contest with the prize being a ticket anywhere. To enter the contestant was to submit their "bucket list". As we all know, a "bucket list" is a list of things that you want to do before you die. Oh, what a REALLY, REALLY bad marketing/PR mess that ensued. As I have said before, the worst job to have right now has to be "PR Director" for Malaysia Airlines...

  8. Critch, the AP styleguide follows different rules than the USPS.

  9. >>To enter the contestant was to submit their "bucket list".>>

Contestant Entry: Bucket List = I'd like to hug my relatives who were on the missing airliner.

    Still too soon?

  11. What is interesting is that 4 years ago everyone was talking about how NATO was dying and likely to break apart. Now, there is talk of NATO having been reinvigorated by Putin's actions in Eastern Europe. Its the most united it has been since the aftermath of 9/11.

Unfortunately, at the exact time when leadership is needed from the White House there is none.

  12. my left arm is in a brace and sore, so no capital letters tonight. I'm suffering from general decrepitude and bow season is just around the corner.what if Russia had joined nato? they could have effectively vetoed any actions against themselves? joan rivers passed away, I liked her. the federales are investigating the ferguson, mo pd....why? who's going to investigate the feds for a multitude of disasters with their police? ruby ridge, waco, just a few that come to mind...I'm not real right wing, but ruby ridge and waco were totally uncalled for... that picture of the goon cop pointing an mp5 at elian gonzales' uncle is priceless..

  13. That bucket list thing is a pretty horrible idea. You would think a marketing firm would now better... or not. Wow.

Prediction: Malaysia Airlines will file for bankruptcy, or some other financial debacle, in 2015. I heard that there ridership is significantly down these days. No one knows why! Must be their marketing dept.

  15. Speaking of Mal Air, there is a conspiracy theory making it's way through the weak minded that the US captured the plane so they could capture five Chinese engineers. Retarded.

    ReplyDelete
  16. Andrew - As the logic of conspiracy theories go - wouldn't it had been much more efficient to just ask the 5 Chinese engineers if they wanted to come to the US rather than take the entire plane full of people? The less people you have involved in a cover-up, the less likely the secret will be revealed.

  17. Bev, You would think so. I'll bet they say yes. But as you know, conspiracy theories are basically a cocktail of stupidity and paranoia, and those people don't quite grasp reality.

  18. Hey Critch - sorry about the general decrepitude! I hope your arm heals really soon!

  19. Malaysia Airlines is a government-owned company, as in the government of Malaysia owns it.

Thought before 2014 it apparently had a fairly good safety record.
