Back To Reality...

We at CommentaramaPolitics and our many affiliates hope everyone had a festive and restful Labor Day weekend. Now, it's back to school and back to reality. We have 62 days left before the 2014 Midterm elections. As far as the daily poll numbers are going, it is possible that the Republicans can take over the Senate, but it is just too close to call. Is anything happening in your district that could be earth shattering? Let us know.

  1. In Tennessee, the Democrat is trying to run to the right of Senator (and former Governor) Lamar Alexander. That's not particularly hard to do, as Alexander is rather middle of the road. But, Tennessee is about as red as a state can get, so it ain't gonna happen

  2. I'm concerned that if the GOP does take the Senate, they'll blow it...they seem rudderless to me...

  3. TennJ - Didn't Alexander one of the senate candidates who had a Tea Party challenger?

  4. Critch - That is always a possibility. But if McConnell wins in Kentucky which it looks like he will, there may be hope. Of course, I think that McConnell has held the line properly and statesman-like. Well, as "statesman-like" as compared to everyone else anyway.

  5. We have our primary next Tuesday (6/9/14) and Cuomo actually has challengers from the Left. Not very serious challengers, but enough to make him have to run on how liberal and progressive he is. He is still under suspicion from the US Attorney's office for dumping a committee he formed to investigate ethics violations just as they were about to start on him...could get interesting if my hero Preet Bharara finds the evidence to indict him and times it just right.

  6. Bev, Around here, the Democrats are trying to paint the Republican senate candidate as an abortion extremist, but he was chosen precisely because he comes across as moderate and sane. It's not working. The more interesting issue is that the left is running anti-Koch Brothers ads. Koch Industries is running "look at all the jobs we created in Colorado ads". And the right is running anti-Bloomberg "get your east coast hands off our guns" ads.

  7. Andrew - There's a Tom Lehrer song somewhere in what you just wrote about Colorado -

Oh, the Leftists hate the Koch boys
And the Koch boys hate the Lefitists
And the Left-wing hates the Right-wing
    And everybody hates May'r Bloom...berg

    Okay, it needs some work...;-)

  8. Bev, That sounds about right! LOL! :)

What's interesting, is that I think the only issue that has resonated is the gun issue because our stupid governor actually signed the bills the Democrats passed and people are very, very angry about that. Other than that, I don't think anyone is paying attention to politics right now.

  9. ***Newsflash***
ISIL's "Jihadi John" has beheaded another American journalist - Steven Sotloff. Same guy who beheaded Foley.

  10. yes, but he was a no name without much of a campaign. People don't love Lamar, but I sure don't see the Dems knocking him off by any stretch.

  11. Sadly, it's hard for me to get worked up over journalists.
