Open Thread

Due to a lengthy weekend, I must sadly leave you with an open thread today. Share your thoughts. Tell us what you see in the news. Is Ebola coming to get you? Are you sure?

  1. Living in Omaha, home to the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where they keep receiving sick patients from Africa, I can confidently say, "Yes, Ebola is definitely coming to get me."

  2. You know what's interesting about the ebola thing... I had no idea they could treat people with ebola. I'd always heard that once you got it, it either killed you or it didn't. But it sounds like they've been able to treat it in American hospitals.

  3. Actually, Andrew, they are been working on a vaccine which has just been approved for human trials. Guess who the humans are...

Here's something interesting. It was written by one of my family's exchange students who we hosted from Liberia in the '70's who is now a Senator in Liberia.

It seems kind of elementary, but that is what they are contending with in West Africa. Just the basics of sanitation and exposure. Something that we take for granted in the First World.

  4. Bev, Who are the testing? Illegals? Aliens at Area 51? Secretly administered in the waters of hillbilly country? Joe Biden?

In all seriousness, I understand that ebola is largely the result of bad sanitation and contact with animals that should not be contacted. And once you have it, it spreads because of things like people touching the body at funerals. Basically, they know nothing of disease control. And at times they've attacked medical workers claiming they are causing the outbreaks. Wonderful. So you have a medical problem made worse by superstition.

  5. You, Andrew, they are testing you...;p

Actually Louis Farrakhan has proclaimed that, of course, the whole Ebola epidemic is a giant government conspiracy by the "white Man" (and I am sure that includes Jews too) to wipe out the Black Africans and steal stuff (or something like that anyway). Sadly, he has never quite recovered from the devastating blow at losing his best bud and major benefactor Muammar Gaddafi...

  6. Democrats are starting to point fingers at each other for what many Dems fear is an impending GOP takeover of the Senate.

  7. Well since it's an open thread....I found a S&W Combat Masterpiece stamped with USAF markings, it's identical to the one I carried for 10 years before they made us go to the Berettas....I never felt under-gunned. The Russkies had no idea who they were messing with, a USAF AMMO troop with 5 bullets.......

Folks, I realize and you realize that Ebola is controllable, however, the mass of people don't and if that stuff gets loose in a Baltimore housing project, an LA barrio, or God forbid a cesspool like Mexico City, there will be tons of deaths..and that will likely cause a panic..

  8. Critch - I have faith in the US Government and the CDC...oh, wait, what am I saying??? What I am wondering is why didn't the CDC have a team ready to handle the cleaning and disposal of sheets, towel, et al. in Dallas apartment where the Liberian guy was staying?? Isn't that what we are paying for? Seriously, no joke, don't they have a trained team they can call in to do that sort of thing? It should be a no-brainer that we should expect that there should be a team of experts to handle that sort of thing. What are we, the taxpayers funding anyway?

  9. The first person cleaning the apartment in LA I think it was not even in contamination gear...the CDC can't find their butts with both hands and a flashlight...this is the Amateur in Chief..he's a maroon.....look at the history of his administration, the CDC, the Secret Service, his Justice Department, they don't know what they're doing.
