Tuesday Open Thread

Yeah, yeah...it's Tuesday and I just can't bring myself to write about anything tonight. There's too much craziness in NYC right now to focus on just one thing. So let's open the floor to talk about anything you want to.

In the meantime, here are photos of puppies and kittens to calm us down...okay, they are for me, but you can enjoy them too.

Okay, now that we are all calm...what's on your mind?

  1. How about where all this will end? America continuing on it's "transformed" trend towards a banana republic? Or, what about all those Americans who wake up every day, try hard to follow the law, provide for their families, pay their taxes and in general, lead good, moral lives?........SUCKERS! Don't you know you don't have to pay your taxes (Sharpton); You don't have to work (welfare); You don't have to follow the law (illegals);

What these last few years has shown me is that in order for this country to survive, the vast majority of law abiding Americans will continue to be used and abused while their taxes continue to rise and their gov't continues to borrow more and more just to keep functioning. All the while we go about our lives trying to do right by each other and leading "normal" lives.

How much will the vast middle....what was it called once...."Moral Majority?"....continue to be mocked, ridiculed, laughed at and scorned by our betters, all the while demanding more of what we work for or else be branded some sort of "...ist or ....phobic?"

As a member of a recent experience with the State averred...."I'm just trying to get by here. Will you guys quit hassling me?" Well, he got what he deserved right? The LAW must be followed or the State will take you out.

As an older, successful, pale-skinned male, I fully understand how all this is my fault. I cling to certain things, try to live a good life and do right by others. I guess that's not good enough. I must atone for everything bad in the country by working harder so that others may protest and/or become SJW's or activists.

Still......Maybe I was born an optimist, but I believe this great middle class will overcome all this nonsense and continue the dream. Gotta believe it...especially this time of year. Won't let the dark side dominate my life.

So....Merry Christmas and let's have a Happier New Year in 2015!

  2. One more 4.0 semester under my belt, one more to go. I'm entering the home stretch. I finally graduate this spring with a BFA in graphic design and I'm shooting for summa cum laude. Of course, that and $.05 will get me a cup of coffee. Hopefully I'll be able to land a decent job. Even banana republics (see above) need logos. :-)

  3. my thought is that due to the emergence of digital cellular cameras and social media, we are not in for a rosy future. I look at the so called demonstrations going on in the streets. Events are now shared instantaneously world wide without anything remotely resembling objective reporting. In fact, just the opposite occurs ..... they are share throgh the lens of whoever puts them out there and whatever agenda they are pushing. This is a dangerous world because events quickly out of control, whether it be race riots or jihad. At least during the 60's and 70's, M.A.D. between the U.S. and U.S.S.R. kind of work because there were two heads of state smart enough to not bring about WWIII. Now, we truly live in an era where mass destruction can be visited. Sooner or later, somebody is going to smuggle in Ebola virus and purposely set off epidemics as wide as possible, or a dirty bomb, or a cyber attack, etc. It is depressing.

  4. We will never learn the truth about Pvt. Bergdahl, it will be covered up by people in this administration and their lovers in the press. I hate to say that there are very military leaders I'm seeing in the news that I would follow into combat. They're just politicos in uniform.

  5. Taliban storm Pakistani school and kill 150.

  6. In the book "Stand On Zanzibar", the author predicted the rise of hobby terrorists and demonstrators, endless wars waged by multinational corporations using militaries that work for them, and a dependence on technology.

  7. Attacking the kids of your only natural base of supporters outside Afghanistan is pretty much the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.

  8. Ok, shoot me now...

Jeb Bush has officially announced that he's exploring a run for the presidency. Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

    ReplyDelete
  9. I think Jeb is a nice guy, having said that, I won't vote for him unless I have to.

  10. Re: Jeb - Well, he'll wear out his welcome by August...or not. I very seriously doubt that there will be a Bush-Clinton-Bush-Obama-Bush legacy...

  11. Critch, He seems like a nice guy. I suspect he's the most competent and most conservative of the Bush clan too. But the idea of voting for another Bush makes me sick. I hate dynasties. And with the track record of the prior two in terms of the harm they did to conservatism, I absolutely don't want to risk it a third time.

  12. Bev, It makes me sick to say this, but I think there's a 90% chance he becomes our nominee.

  13. So, after yesterday's Islamic terrorist hostage situation in Sydney as with the shooting in Canada this summer, why do they think it is necessary praise and pat themselves on the back for not going right out and killing their Muslim citizens? I swear, I do not remember the subjugation, harassment, and/or mass slaughter of Muslim US citizens post 9/11, but then again, I was otherwise occupied at the time. Can someone enlighten me?

  14. And it is also baffling why we must "understand" any group that chooses to slaughter any number of children to make a point. And what is more baffling is that the Taliban seems quite proud that they slaughter children and even had the skill to hunt down the ones who were hiding.

Jon Stewart called Cheney's mind "the scariest f**king place in the universe." Bad timing on Stewart's part. I would say Cheney's mind in downright paradise compared to the sick f**ks who decided to hunt down innocent children.

I apologize for my language, but I can't help it...

    ReplyDelete
  15. Bev, No problem on the language. I share your feelings on this. It's shocking that people think that way, and it's disgusting that people like Stewart somehow can just overlook it as it if were a typo.

  16. BTW, there is an article about the Sony hacking at the film site if anyone is interested.

  17. Bev -

I know this isn't how you meant it but, in the traditional sense, we should attempt to understand our enemies if we're going to defeat them. (To the extent that there's anything remotely understandable.)

Again, I got your sentiment and maybe "understand" isn't the right word.

  18. Scott - Sorry, I should have referenced my source. Sadly, that is not what Hillary Clinton meant when she said we should use " 'smart power' by "...showing respect, even for one's enemies; trying to understand and, insofar as psychologically possible, empathize with their perspective and point of view," Oh, but then again she could have meant Republicans and conservatives...

  19. I realized that the photos I posted were of sad-eyed puppies and kittens...well, the baby bull dog has that "What are you lookin' at?" look on his face.

  20. P.S. Scott, Congrats on the great grades! I wish you luck in your future job search. :D

  21. Oh, and did anyone see that Mark Levin is "one inch" away from leaving the GOP? Frankly, I'm surprised he even claims to be GOP.

In any event, it would be good for the GOP if guys like Levin do finally openly divorce themselves from the GOP. That would let the GOP triangulate against him and, in the process, completely dump the toxic baggage of the last couple years while re-branding as a "party for all Americans of all races, genders and beliefs," with a heavy rhetorical focus on the middle class and practical solutions to middle class concerns.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Andrew,

I saw where Levin said that.

    My reaction was "GO!"

  23. The Afghan Taliban are apparently slightly less inbred then their Pakistani counterparts and have condemned the school attack.

Be interesting to see if there is inter-Taliban throatcutting though if so it won't be on a grand scale.

  24. This is just more proof that the Afghanistan "Taliban" is nothing but TINOs... Taliban In Name Only!!!!

I am the length of a Koran away from disowning the Afghan "Taliban"!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Kit, Me too. Though, I was pretty sure he has always claimed not to be a Republican because they aren't pure enough for him.

    ReplyDelete
  26. Gee, I wonder if the Taliban that were released by Obama in exchange for Bergdahl were involved???

  27. Although I consider myself a moderate Republican, I have to ask where does the GOP draw the line? They sure haven't cut the spending, or even tried. They are not vocal enough about the 2nd Amendment, something many of us do consider to a big deal. I want conservatism, but I'm not seeing it. I would love to see all these "czars" get the axe, as well as tons of extremely high paid bureaucrats. Boehner doesn't do anything for me. I like Kasich of Ohio, he strikes me as a smart moderate Republican in the Reagan mold. Scott Walker doesn't bother me too much either....

  28. FYI, I'm trying to finish an article on Bush. I hope to have it up in an hour or so.

  29. Well, this has been a downer of a thread. All I can say is that, looking at the 'The Daily Caller' headlines, I noticed "Santorum Talks about Sex, Movies, Media, and Amnesty."

The first four words in that headline should NEVER be written together. In fact, I think part of me just died reading that phrase.

  30. I've said since the videotape of Brown's strongarm robbery I believe the officer and think the shooting was justified, but the prosecuter just gave skeptics an dumptruck load of ammunition.

The prosecutor made a mentally ill racist whose online posts contradicted her sworn testimony, who had a history of lying to the police in high profile cases, and who didn't claim she was a witness until weeks after the shooting, their star witness, despite the fact it is unlikely she was actually a witness.

Its fine and good that the prosecuter was determined that a cop who was assaulted by a thug not be prosecuted for protecting himself, but that doesn't mean that putting a local nutjob on the stand was a good idea.
