Questions Answered While We Wait For Hillary

Former Sec't of State Hillary Rodham Clinton will be "testifying" today before the House Committee investigating the events leading up to the attack on the US Consulate in Benghazi, Libya where our ambassador and three others were murdered. Expect lots of blustering about how this is a waste of taxpayer money.

Expect lots of excuses as to why she was not running the State Department when she was supposed to be Secretary of State. Expect some interesting questions about her ongoing relationship with the Clinton Foundation while at State and donations made to same. Of course, there will be questions about e-mail security or lack of same. Expect even a few really tasty sound-bites that both parties can use to bludgeon each other with.

What not to expect - any real answers from Clinton to any questions.

I know how frustrating it can be to want a straight answer and not get one. So, as a little diversion to quell that frustration, here are some answers to questions that may have kept you up at night:
Question #1: Which is the correct way for toilet paper to roll to go - over or under?
Answer: The original patent shows that the toilet paper should roll over...LINK
See, wasn't that nice...asked/answered...moving on.
Question #2: What was the first novel written on a typewriter?
Answer: Tom Sawyer by Mark Twain a/k/a Samuel Clemens in 1874.
Done. And now the answer to one of the most important question of the 20th Century...
Question#3: How many licks does it take to get to the Tootsie Roll center of a Tootsie Pop?
Answer: It takes about 142.18 licks to reach the center of a Tootsie pop.
See, it was that easy. If you need another endorphin rush that only comes from straight answers to simple questions, here is a link to...the internet. Uh, you were expecting a link? Do you own internet searches....{{{mic drop}}}

  2. Politically, I suspect Hillary has more to fear from the mother of Sean Smith (one of the murdered diplomats) than she does from Congress and their ten minute questions.

The frustrated, bereaved mother of Sean Smith went on to repeat her claim that — despite being the mother of the fallen diplomat — she wasn’t told anything after the funeral ceremony because they didn’t consider her a member of the immediate family.

“I saw on TV the bloody fingerprints on the walls over there. I asked specifically, ‘Are those my son’s fingerprints crawling down the walls?'” she cried. “Somebody’s got to tell me!”

  3. I hate to be this way, but Patricia Smith's appearance is headed in the wrong direction if she wants to gin up sympathy as a mother who lost her son. She's never looked particularly motherly since she's become a public figure, but she keeps getting frumpier. I'm sure what she's been though doesn't make it easy to keep up appearances, but she really needs a wardrobe coordinator and a stylist. The closer she looks to fresh-baked cookies and apple pie, the more sympathetic she'll be. I'm not saying it's right or fair, it just is.

  4. Why are these hearings behind closed doors? Classified information? I would take the day off to see her roast, slowly.

  5. Anthony - How is it possible that a mother NOT be a member of the immediate family. I guess if she was completely estranged and the "immediate family" specifically did not want her included, but that does not seem to be the case. Sadly for Ms. Smith, she misunderstood politician-speak. When Hillary said that she would do everything she could to find out what happened this woman's son, she was true to her word. She was actually telling the truth. Because what she really meant was that Ms. Smith was to stop asking questions because Hillary would do nothing...because it any investigation would take away from Presidential aspirations and what is one mother's grief to her ambitions.

  6. Kit - Whoever gets to post will just end up being the current whipping boy for the House Dems and Republicans. It really doesn't matter who that is...they won't last long.

  7. Tryanmax - Ms. Smith looks like she could take Hillary down in one debate. She also looks like a relentlessly strong women. Who cares how she dresses, she is a distraught mother who lost her son in an avoidable attack and Hillary is responsible even though Hillary will deny it over and over. Imagine having someone state categorically that her son's life didn't matter much as in "What difference does it make now?"

  8. Critch - I understand national security issues, but they should be made public. But then it was probably a condition of her testifying...that her campaign/Clinton Foundation would get the advantage with maximum damage control. I am sure Huma has hired extra spin controllers - possible an entire company of well-trained Whirling Dervishes from Turkey.

  9. Bev,

Interestingly, Paul Ryan had, before the recent Speakership race, been talking about retiring from the House at age 50. So, if he lasts, say, two more terms, he's good.

  11. Note to Hillary: If you are being questioned about the deaths of four Americans on TV (at least one of whom was your employee) you should probably smile and smirk a bit less while Gowdy asks a question.

    That is, none.

  12. Bev, A whole host of media types care what she looks like. If Ms. Smith wants answers, she needs face time in front of the public. If she wants face time, well, you do the math. As I said, it's not right, it's not fair, it just is.

  13. I still don't buy your toilet paper argument. Clearly from behind is superior due to physics especially with a fresh roll. With behind you are less likely to tear off too small a piece. This really annoys those of us who enjoy hot, green chili.

  14. Koshcat - I am not presenting an "argument". I am stating as a fact that the inventor of said "toilet paper roll" specifically patented the roll for the perforated toilet tissue to go roll over, not under. Any deviation from the patent will cause irreparable harm and render any and all liability against the inventor and/or any successors invalid. That's all I'm sayin'...roll at your own risk. ;-)

  15. Tryanmax - I know "media types" only care about the looks of those who would speak out against Hillary specifically. Because they cannot openly disagree that she deserves answers because they must support Hillary without opening supporting Hillary because that would be against their ethics, they must shame her looks to going away.

  16. Tryanmax, not arguing your points re. Patricia Smith, but what probably matters more as the media ignores her is the narrative she brings. Case in point: Cindy Sheehan, who was never renowned for being a sharp-dressed lady.

  17. EP, precisely why she needs to be made/make herself un-ignore-able.

  20. On the Republican side, Jeb Bush is slashing the pay of his campaign staffers and Trump is ranting about Iowans too stupid to recognize his awesomeness.

On the Dem side, Lincoln Chafee announced he is quitting. I sure his seven supporters will throw their support behind O'Malley, doubling the popular support of the former MD governor.

As I've observed before, anyone charismatic and reasonable sounding could beat Hillary, but those two words don't characterize any of the 2016 Dem candidates (including Hillary). I'm not yet sure they describe any of the likely winners of the Republican primary either.

  21. Howdy folks. Sorry I haven't been around. It's been one crisis after another this week with things blowing up and school issues. Anyways, I'm starting to see hints that the GOP ticket might be changing. Here's what the tea leaves are suggesting right now...

    Rubio/Carson

    Thoughts?

  22. If Bush is forced to bow out, Rubio is his most logical replacement, but I didn't think he had been forgiven for the immigration transgression.

  23. Romney praised Obamacare (and said it was in the tradition of Romneycare) but when the comments started getting wide play, he walked them back. A severe conservative indeed.

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/mitt-romney-obamacare_562a733ce4b0ec0a389461eb

Mitt Romney praised Obamacare for offering health care to more Americans Friday, despite the fact that he spent his last presidential campaign attacking it.

Romney's comments came in tribute to Thomas Stemberg, the founder of Staples, who passed away Friday. Romney was an early investor in the company through his private equity firm, Bain Capital. In comments to the Boston Globe, Romney credited Stemberg with encouraging him to push health care reform when he served as governor of Massachusetts:

Romney said that shortly after he was elected, Mr. Stemberg asked him why he ran for governor. Romney said he told him that he wanted to help people, and Mr. Stemberg replied that if he really wanted to help, he should give everyone access to health care, which Romney said he hadn’t really considered before.

“Without Tom pushing it, I don’t think we would have had Romneycare,” Romney said. “Without Romneycare, I don’t think we would have Obamacare. So, without Tom a lot of people wouldn’t have health insurance.”
