Crazy NYC stuff...

Speaking of crazy stuff, let's start with this. Last week Reuters published an article claiming that said 1 in 5 people in NYC have mental health issues. By "mental health issues", they mean depression, substance abuse, suicidal thoughts or other psychological disorders. When I polled my friends, they all thought that the 1 in 5 sounded generous. [On a personal note: Just for the sake of wanting to fit it, I want to proudly claim that I am "the 1" in that 5. I want to have t-shirts made "Stay Calm. I am the 1 in that 5!".]

But seriously, what makes this kind of perplexing is that a few years ago, reports were published in the papers about how the NYC drinking water had been found to have trace amounts of Prozac and other anti-depressants. You'd think that it would make everyone more sane. Guess not.

Other NYC news: So our dear Mayor DeBlasio has been ignoring issues in NYC like the dramatic rise in homeless panhandlers and murder rates to widen his profile on the national political stage. Unfortunately, no one already on the national political stage seems that interested. He initiated a Progressive Agenda Committee to rally the DNC in a cohesive progressive message with a forum schedule for December 6 in Iowa. Unfortunately none of the presidential candidates were interested, so the forum has been cancelled. So much for progress. Now maybe he can get back to NYC and do some mayor-ing for awhile.

And on the college dystopian front: Hunter College in the heart of the Upper East Side of Manhattan staged their "Million Student March" or "walkout" is more to the point on Thursday. About 60 students filled the sidewalk outside of the building holding signs for Black Lives Matters cop haters, Free Tuition, and some girl was wrapped in the flag of Israel. Interestingly, the signs that they held were mostly professionally printed. They chanted and rallied and made their voices heard, but no one could really make heads or tails of what they really wanted. I sidled up to one of the cops assigned to rally and asked him if they had asked for herds of unicorns yet. He laughed and we chatted for a minute. We decided that they were no great threat to democracy and probably weren't going to riot. Since I don't talk to police officers ever, I took a moment to let him know that he had my support for which he was very appreciative.

So other than terrorist attacks and general mayhem, let's continue in an open forum...

  1. Bev......Another thing about Paris that the idjits in the WH aren't thinking about. The psychos selected "normal" human beings...young ones too...about the same age as the Ob/Dim voters. Those folks must now think, hell that could have been me! They weren't military, journalists, "Jews!" or cartoonists pissing off these killers. They were just normal people out having a good time at a (how ironic) 'death metal' concert.

Maybe now people here will start thinking like the king in Braveheart..."That could have been MY head in that box!" And they'll see that the fascists in the WH really don't give a rats ass about them or their concerns/safety.

    One can only hope.

Oh...on DiBlasio/Warner, what do the cops there think about him?

Re: college, I came across this story in the NY Post...

Columbia student activists are pestering peers to attend campus protests and walk-outs in solidarity with college students at Missouri and Yale or risk social isolation, students say.

  3. Colorado is on lockdown. All the highways are closed. Ain't nobody leaving the state.

It's not terrorism though. It's snow. LOL! We have a massive blizzard with white out conditions! They've closed the highways and everything else.

  4. Bob - The attacking young people and blowing them up for no reason is a long running theme with Islamic terrorists. They have been doing that in Israel for years and years and no one thought anything of it, Except of course Israelis who used that evil "asymmetrical response" just like France. Until it happens here during the reign of Obama, he will not get involved. He thinks reason and giving them nuclear weapons is going to help. Madonna thinks all they need is love.

As for the Blas, no one really likes him at all. Unless something extraordinary happens, I doubt he will have a 2nd term. BUT he did make it on time this year for the moment of silence for Flight 587 crash which means he can learn. He has a bad habit of keeping people waiting for hours for his arrival.

  5. Scott - From what I have read in the papers, it wasn't just "pestering". It was downright intimidation. Students went from dorm room to dorm room demanding that students participate and if anyone was caught NOT wearing black clothing as demanded, they would called out. Pretty stupid,

  6. Wow, Andrew! Isn't this kind of early for a blizzard? El Nino strikes again...

  7. Bev, Colorado has truly wild weather (unlike everyone else who only thinks they do - rain without clouds, 40 degree temperature changes in minutes, rain, hail, snow, and heatwaves all on the same day, and 50 degree days where everyone wears shorts because the sun is so hot, etc.), so we kind of expect strange things.

Generally, we get our first snow by Halloween, but it's not usually this heavy. The earliest we've had snow that I can recall was August. The latest we had our first snow was December.

That said, we have been told that El Nino means we're going to get a harsh, wet winter with record snow. We already had record rainfall this year... it ended a decade long drought in about one month. Usually, it's incredibly dry here because this is largely a desert, but we had heavy rain (and hail) for 40+ straight days.

Well, my standard "uniform" consists of blue jeans and black T-shirt (usually from this company) so I'm half-way there already. :-)

(Of course, I doubt that's what they have in mind.)

  10. Scott - You probably would have made it passed the guardians of justice unless you were also carrying a Frisbee...

  11. I was stationed in Denver and Cheyenne from November of 1972 through June 1976..the weather could be unreal. Snowing on Labor Day and Memorial Day. In 1974 it snowed on the 3rd of July up in Laramie Pass....I was out in Denver during Holy Week in 2014 and it snowed like Hell on Palm Sunday as we drove into Denver. Darn near white-out conditions. BTW, someone broke into an Army reserve Center in new England and stole 10 M-9 Berettas and 4 M-4 automatic rifles. I would start with an internal investigation into everyone that worked in that armory.

  13. Critch, The weather out here is truly insane, and it's insane in a way people just don't believe until they've lived through it.

After the blizzard today, it's now 60 degrees and everything is melting fast.
