Trump will be an electoral apocalypse for Republicans

By Kit

I would love to sit in the cocoon that a number of Republican politicians and donors have ensconced themselves within. The place must be very nice and cosy along with being safer than the bunker under the White House. Consider the recent opinion of Representative Mike Rogers of Michigan that Trump was picking up “as many Democrats as Republicans”.

True, he wins among blue-collar whites, specifically white males, and loses among just about everybody else: college-educated whites, hispanics (10%!), and his numbers among women are a complete flip of Hillary's.

And if he is the nominee, Hillary will BURY him in ads about that widow he tried to force out of he home, the illegals he hired for Trump tower, and all the other myriad of scandals. You see, Trump has yet to have been actually tested in terms of negative ads. Yes, he has had lots of unpleasant coverage regarding certain comments he has made but he has never faced the withering non-stop barrage of ads and negative coverage of things like Vera Coking that he will endure in the general.

Oh, and Bob Dole, you say that Cruz will lead to “down the ballot losses” for the Republicans. And Trump won’t?

One of the greatest, and most unbelievable, ironies of this race is that usually it’s the establishment pushing the guy who, usually, has the best shot at winning (Romney, McCain). This time, they are pushing the one guy who is destined to be crushed by the Democrats —and cause a “down-the-ballot apocalypse”. It will be a bloodbath. The general electorate doesn’t like him. It’s pretty easy to coast to the GOP nomination when Fox News loves you and the media is being quiet, hoping you coast to the nomination. There is a reason Rubio has, since New Year's, gotten more negative coverage than Trump.

A Donald Trump nomination could nearly wipe out 6 years of electoral progress that captured a slew of state legislatures and governorships and gave us the Senate and House of Representatives back. Yes, we might keep the House, but the Senate?

You really want to gamble some of those brand new 2010 first-termers on Trump?

A Bloomberg run might even grab up a number of Republicans. I know, because I would seriously consider pulling the lever for Bloomberg simply on the grounds that he does not have Hillary’s issues with classified documents and has a better temperament than Donald Trump.

If we nominate Trump we might as well just declare Hillary Clinton President for Life.

Nominating Trump would be the equivalent of the GOP putting a gun to its own head and blowing its brains out. Of course, we all know what will happen afterwards. In a year, maybe two, Trump will be pals with the Democrats again. And Jeanine Pirro, Andrea Tantaros, Bolling, Sean Hannity, and the rest will scratch their heads “How?”

Because he’s a con artist and we are his mark.

  1. Perfectly stated, and why I'm getting so worried about the upcoming primaries with the way things have been going for Trump. I'd like to think that enough voters will get serious when the time comes but I don't know if that's going to happen anymore. It's infuriating and depressing to think that out of all the good candidates we had the one most likely to win is a walking electoral apocalypse.

  2. Kit.....While not a Trump guy, Cruz is more my type of "anti-establishment" candidate, I think you are wrong about him. If we look at the "popular" vote just in terms of attendance at rally's, Trump is by far more popular than anyone else. Sure, he's a "reality" star, but it's like the poster meme of Obama stating "I'm not a President, but I play one on TV." Maybe that is what the Presidency has become, a reality show.

If Trump wins the Presidency, I don't think the Repubs in Congress will let him get away with half the stuff they've let Obama do. First off, Trump is not black! That is the only thing saving Obama. Without the race card, he'd have been impeached in his first term. So, Congress will send him bills and he'll sign them. Isn't that the way it's supposed to work?

I guess I'm saying we'll get back to regular order of business, all the lobbyists and PACs will be happy and Trump can go on on TV as much as he likes and play at being President.

Now Cruz, in my opinion, would really shake up the order. I believe he would actually be a wrecking ball. Close Departments......transform the VA....scare the shit out of the rest of the world's idiots, and in the meantime, have this country respected again by both our enemies and friends. That unpredictableness can be good in international relations. As of today, the US is not feared or respected by those desiring to move against our interests. Witness the recent Navy boat sailors incident, much less the whole "nuclear accords" with Iran.

I really do think voters are serious and they want to send Washington a "message," that they are sick of their b.s. and corruption, so they'll vote in the anti-politician in Trump, no matter the dirt that goes along with him.

Heck, they voted for a community activists with clear anti-American values. What could be worse with Trump?!

  3. Patriot,

Trump will not win the presidency. Hillary and the Dems (or Bernie) will bury him.

    ReplyDelete
  4. Patriot, almost every single poll shows Hillary beating him handily. In fact, in some polls, he's been the only person to lose to Hillary.

  5. I view Bloomberg, Trump, Bernie and Hillary as dangers to the Republic. Bloomberg is just another rich guy, an arrogant one at that, who wants to climb higher, much like Trump and Hillary..Bernie is just another Commie.

  6. You're presuming that Hillary won't be indicted.

    What about Bernie vs Trump/Rubio?

I'm not suggesting that's how the tea leaves read, but it's too early to suggest an end to this election cycle.

    ReplyDelete
  7. LL, I can't see Hillary being indicted. I really can't. There's too much of a need to protect the Democratic machine to let her be indicted until and unless she's replaced.

In terms of the election, believe it or not, I actually think Trump would win the general election handily. Cruz would suffer an historic blowout. The problem is what happens once Trump becomes grafter in chief.

    P.S. I'm officially back! :)

  8. Kit....An assertion of opinion does not sway any thinking person. And if you trust polls (and pollster results) then show us polls where this far out in a Presidential election, where neither party even has there nominee, the poll was accurate.

I think that, as with Obama the Lightworker, some people are just smitten by the cult of personality. Unfortunately, those same people will vote, and vote for their Dear Leader, no matter what he or she states.

That is the cult of Trump. People see him as somehow going in and changing Washington. I see him as someone willing to make deals, as long as they benefit him in the here and now. I don't see him as a transformative figure as I see Cruz could be. And that is what I want to see in a candidate.....transform Washington back into a rule of law republic, not a medium where graft and corruption spread, all the while claiming to be "fair" and "common-sense" in your approach to law-breaking.

With that said.....I think we'll see a Cruz or Rubio vs. Sanders or Biden. I really think Hillary's toast and is rotting from the head down. The rot coming in the form of a Presidential "pardon" before the half-wit leaves office.

  9. Andrew - Glad to see you are feeling better!

All I can say is that all I seem to do is pray that it's NOT Trump...anyone but Trump. Bloomberg is just making noise. He is NEVER going to win as a 3rd Party candidate. But he HATES Trump so much that I think that he's pulling a Ross Perot.

Interesting that the top candidates - Trump, Clinton, Sanders and now possibly Bloomberg all have a strong NY connection. NY values indeed.

  10. Critch, I see Bloomberg and Bernie as dangers to our country. Bloomberg is the type of guy who wants microchips installed in all citizens so he can operate us by remote control, and who wants bronze statues to himself in every city.

Bernie is an earnest retard, the type who devastates a country and its people and wonders how it all went wrong as people fight over scraps of toilet paper in the streets.

I see Hillary as a continuation of Obama/WBush... incompetent foreign policy based on half-complete military attacks, wishful thinking and leading from behind... rudderless economic policy that costs jobs, explodes budgets, and shifts more money from the working class to big corporations... total gridlock in all other areas... and angry rhetoric over nothing.

  11. Thanks Bev! I am! It turns out that blood pressure medication can work too well (59/47). And when you're passing out from just trying to stand up, that's a good time to see a doctor! Who knew? LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  12. Patriot - I agree with you about Cruz, however I really don't think that it's possible to reform DC. I am more and more convinced that we need term limits.

And I too think Biden is about to make a move.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Kit - Keep up rhetoric like this and you may end up on Breitbart's hit list. :-)

Andrew - Good to have you back!

  14. OT Aside I think it's hilarious that Boston Talk Radio is ripping Belichick apart. What a bunch of whiners!

Congrats to Peyton Manning! And to Cam Newton. :)

  15. YEY Peyton Manning!!! Not only has he slayed Tom "I can't win unless I cheat" Brady, but he caused the early demise of Al-Jazeera America.

  16. Well, this should come as no surprise - Rick Perry has endorsed Ted Cruz. I am not sure anyone remembers who Perry is, so...

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bev...You mean Steve (Rick) Perry from Journey?! Man I loved his songs. If he's endorsing Cruz then so am I!!

Seriously, did we think Perry was going to endorse a NY'er? Like Trump? Them Texans gotta stand together or hang separately. Or something like that.....

    ReplyDelete
  18. And in other news - Ted Kaczynski (a/k/a The Unabomber) has endorsed Hillary Clinton...yeah, there's that.

  19. >>Keep up rhetoric like this and you may end up on Breitbart's hit list. >>

You're nobody till John Nolte blocks you on Twitter. ;-)

  20. Patriot,

At best, I see Trump being a Nixon. A corrupt statist who shifts from conservative(-ish) policies at the start of his presidencies to left-wing policies in his second ("We're all Keynesians now!").

At worst? I don't even want to think about that. But I might do a post on it.

    ReplyDelete
  21. Patriot,

I'm a Rubio guy, but I like Cruz. I like all of them over Trump.

    ReplyDelete
  22. Andrew, out of curiosity do your predictions of Trump having problems in the blue and purple state primaries still hold in light of Dole and some of the others? I'm trying to find some hope that he won't get the nomination in that but it's sounding like he's being regarded as inevitable everywhere now and as I said before I'm not sure whether I find that depressing, infuriating, or frightening.

    - Daniel

    ReplyDelete
  23. Daniel, Yes.

Things are always in motion in politics, but I still see no evidence that he can prevail in blue or purple states. Trump's appeal still seems to be limited to people who just want to upturn the system, and they are concentrated in the smaller deep red states.

His best bet is if the public at large starts to see him as the "why the heck not" candidate and decide to vote for him on the basis that (1) he's no worse than the others and (2) voting for him might provide entertainment for them. The thing is, I don't see there being enough of those people ready to turn out.

In terms of his leads in the polls, I saw something the other day about fewer than a third of voters having really started paying attention. Once those other people start paying attention, you'll see little support for him. They will swing to the establishment because that's what late adapters do.

    ReplyDelete
  24. Bev, I'm sure they were all hoping for the Unabomber's endorsement. LOL!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Daniel - I find it all depresssing, infuriating, and frightening all at the same time...if it helps to know you are not alone.

My problem is the laws in NY being what they are, I am not allowed to vote in the primary because I am not registered in a party though I may declare a party so that I can vote. This all just seems to important.

  26. By the way, I'll start answering the rest of you all in about 2 hours. Got to go to class.

  27. Bev -

Same here. I just read an article in the local paper this morning on this very subject. Florida sucks if you're an Independent!

  28. First, Donald Trump is talking about boycotting Thursday's Fox News debate unless Megan Kelly is pulled from the debate.

    ReplyDelete
  29. A boycott? Cool. Me too...

Seeing as how Hollywood apparently is packed to the gills with racists and sexists and other -ists, I'm boycotting the Fox debate since it can be seen in Hollywood until Fox improves the diversity of the debate.

In particular, I want to see midgets with cannons, hot Latina chicks in bikinis going "goochie goochie", a naked Eskimo or two, and dancing Pandas. Yes, dancing fricken Pandas!

What do we want? Real diversity! When do we want it? When there's nothing better on!

    ReplyDelete
  30. I actually encourage watching it if he boycotts it, you know, just to drive up ratings for their channel. Support them so whatever Trump does will not get higher ratings.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Megan Kelly better leave the country if Trump wins. He really hates her.

  32. "Things are always in motion in politics, but I still see no evidence that he can prevail in blue or purple states. Trump's appeal still seems to be limited to people who just want to upturn the system, and they are concentrated in the smaller deep red states."

He's also got an appeal to moderate blue-staters. It helps when your life philosophy can be summed up in this statement by Mr. Burns: "Family. Religion. Friendship. These are the three demons you must slay if you wish to succeed in business."

  34. Trump's turnout is the wild card here. We have no idea if it will do well or fail. What worries me is the number of establishment Republicans and media so-called "conservatives" (looking at you Andrea Tantaros) lining up and demanding everyone do the same before even a single vote has been cast.

This could help save Trump from what may be an inevitable defeat.

    ReplyDelete
  35. Interesting. Bill Scher tells the Republican establishment to "Pull Yourself Together." LINK

I found this random tidbit he threw in interesting. Very interesting:
    ----------------------------
On the Huffington Post podcast “Candidate Confessional,” Howard Dean recently shared that he knew he was losing Iowa, despite his national numbers, when he saw the same faces at all of his Iowa rallies. "I was going to event to event,” he said, “and it was like being the Grateful Dead. It was the same crowd. … I realized what was happening; this was not about ordinary Iowans. And once it's not about ordinary Iowans ... you're in big trouble.”

Could that be happening with Trump or Cruz? I’ll tell you this much: A Trump super-fan who made her own Trump dress and matching purse has been spotted at a Dallas rally in September and a Tulsa rally in January.

  36. All I can say at this point is that I hope and pray that you're right, Andrew. The thought that the Republicans' best opportunity since Carter might turn into 2008 all over again because the primary voters went crazy for Trump is an awful one on a lot of levels. Bev, let's hope there are enough of us out there to put a stop to this.

  39. Last night Trump said he could work with Democrats,,,really? Jesus H. Christ that's the problem, the GOP worked with, worked for them and caved them constantly and now want me to believe them..yoiu can't work with them,,compromising with those people is just a slower road to ruin.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Critch, I'm with you, he shouldn't have said that. I hope he means he will out deal them so that he can get more than GWB got in his eight years. A tax cut that sunset in 2009. Kit, Don't you think The Donald's gonna pound Hillary with negative ads also?

    ReplyDelete
  41. Hillary isn't poisonous to the electorate like Trump is.

And the media will help Hillary, too. God knows what they've been sitting on.

  42. BTW, today I will do a brief rundown of candidates who would do better than Trump in a general election.
