Gone Fishin' Open Thread

Yes, I am going fishin'. Okay, not really fishin', but to a place where they do go fishin'.

I will be back soon with stories to tell and maybe a new perspective of what's going on. But in the meantime, please feel free to keep the homefires burning. I will try to join in as I can.

  1. Ex-Mexican President Vincente Fox has apologized to Trump through the Bigs for insulting him a few months back. Trump responded exactly how one would expect him to respond.

Still, maybe Fox will find a place besides Christie in Trump's entourage of clearly uncomfortable former critics.

    Fox's statement:

On Wednesday, he did so — in an exclusive interview with Breitbart News — and added that he wanted Trump to come to Mexico to see the border from the other side.

“I apologize. Forgiveness is one of the greatest qualities that human beings have, is the quality of a compassionate leader. You have to be humble. You have to be compassionate. You have to love thy neighbor,” Fox explained to Breitbart News while sitting in the hotel of the J.W. Marriott in Santa Monica, California on Wednesday afternoon.

    Trump's hilarious reply:

Yeah, get your money ready because you're going to pay for the wall," Trump said. "We'll get it straightened out."

  2. Hillary Clinton has stated that she didn't really mean it when she promised to put coal out of business.

    http://www.cbsnews.com/news/hillary-clinton-apologizes-for-saying-shed-put-coal-out-of-business/

Hillary Clinton apologized on Monday for saying she would put coal miners and companies "out of business" as president, calling her comment a "misstatement."

"What I said was totally out of context from what I meant," Clinton said. "It was a misstatement, because what I was saying is that the way things are going now, we will continue to lose jobs."

  3. So Mrs. Clinton wants to revive the coal industry? Better make sure the greenies know about that.

  4. tryanmax, This is why Clinton gets into trouble whenever she diverges from her strongly held views about things were already settled in the 1980's.

  5. It has been said that Trump will be moderating his views. He already is. He is planning to run as a left-of-center Democrat. LINK

  6. Honestly, this is a case for letting Hillary win. If we're going to have a Democrat president, at least let it be one with a D after her name.

  7. The governor of Utah has reversed his stance on Common Core.

    http://dailycaller.com/2016/05/05/another-states-governor-just-called-for-dumping-common-core/

It’s a substantial turnaround from the rest of his political career. Herbert was governor when Utah adopted Common Core in 2010, and stood by it as grassroots sentiment against it grew among Republicans. In response to attacks on it in 2014, Herbert ordered two investigations into Common Core to determine whether the standards were legal, whether they ceded authority to the federal government, and whether they were more academically rigorous than what the state had used before.

The reports, released in early 2015, found that Common Core was both legal and more rigorous than the state’s old standards, and Herbert took no further action. For a time that seemed to be the end of things, but on Wednesday Herbert announced he had changed his mind.

  10. Kit, Hillary is just a continuation of Obama by other means. At least with Trump, you'll most likely get someone who delegates to the Republican Congress.
