Weekend Thoughts

How about some thoughts from the weekend?

● The dancing has begun in Charlotte. Now that the police have released images showing the dead guy keeping his hand hidden and looking like he planned to draw on the cops -- plus images of the gun and the pot he had on him -- the story that he was just a normal guy, reading a book, waiting for his kids has become untenable.

The family is trying to discredit this evidence with the conspiratorial call demanding the release of every second of every video, as if there were a segment where a cop runs up to him and plants the gun in his hand before he starts his final moments. That's the same game conspiracy theorists always use when their theories implode. "Look at frame 451! Look at frame 451! You can see it's all stages!"

At the same time, they are switching from yelling "racist cops" (not sure how that works as the cop was black) to "he had mental illness and the police should have asked his wife how to deal with him." Well, when your story doesn't work, change it.

Still, ask yourself this. How do the cops know he's mentally ill in the first place? Presumably the wife, right? Ok, but where was she? She's not helping him or trying to talk to the cops as I would think most concerned wives would do. No. She's running around in the background yelling, screaming and cursing while filming parts of the encounter with her phone. And, why should they trust a woman who has already lied to them, telling them he has no gun when they've seen it? Actions have consequences and, frankly, I suspect she racketed up the tension here and added strongly to their belief he was a danger.

● The debate is Monday night and I just can't watch.

● Arnold Palmer died. Sad.

● It's funny how many "independent experts" are suddenly putting out studies and reports that say things like "22 million people will lose their healthcare if Trump gets elected." There's zero legitimacy to that. I also find it funny how many leftists are repeating the "scared to death" talking point.

There was an interesting article a few weeks back which complained that liberals had made a mistake by claiming that every Republican under the sun is racist. By doing that, no one now believes it when they really really mean it. LOL! I guess liberals don't understand fairy tales after all. Anyways, they don't seem to get that the "scares me to death" garbage is the same thing. No one believes their scares because they're idiotic and repeated so automatically that you know they're propaganda.

● It's always hard to tell if commercials really reflect what people are like, but Peyton Manning seems like an amazing person. I saw something too about how he's written letters to hundreds of people telling them how much he appreciated things they had done or wishing them well. Again, an amazing person. The world needs more people like that.

● A lot of people think the election will come down to Colorado. I doubt that, but it's possible. How will Colorado go? Ya know, I have no idea. All I can say is that I see no support for Clinton and I see little for Trump. Little likely beats none, so I think Trump wins in a mudslide.

  1. Oh, I'm excited for the debate. For some reason, not having a horse in the race makes it more exciting. Ok, so maybe my contempt for the Clintons tilts me toward Trump, but it's like rooting for a team you don't care for because they're playing a team you hate. This election has the NASCAR draw on me, which is to say, I'll be tuning in to see the crashes. If nothing else, a political tradition going back to Lincoln will hit the wall--and to thunderous applause.

  2. What was a brain damaged ex-felon doing with a gun? It's both illegal and a horrible idea.

I'm skipping the debate out of disappointment that the Trump campaign rescinded his offer of a frontline debate seat to Gennifer Flowers.

  3. Southern California police agencies have reported nearly 300 lost guns after an audit...now Joe Blow citizen in Commiefornia can be charged with negligence if he loses a gun...I'm sure nothing will happen here, you can't sue the king. I went to the Scottish Festival in St Louis over the weekend; ate haggis and meat pies (quite good), drank some beer, listened to some pipe bands, some Celtic rock bands,,,and visted with some old Air Force buddies who were there. I may buy a kilt for next year.

  4. Anthony, that's one more reason I will watch the debate.

We can argue whether a guy who uses hyperbole like most people use punctuation was ever really serious about inviting Gennifer Flowers to sit opposite Mark Cuban. The point is, a lot of people have just been reminded of Gennifer Flowers and more have Googledher for the first time. Some perspective: Trump out-tweets Hillary--a visualization

As if this situation doesn't give me enough laughs, CNN upped the funny with this:

In a response on Twitter, Trump mocked Cuban's short-lived reality TV show "The Benefactor" -- which was similar to Trump's "The Apprentice." (Cuban is now featured on a more successful reality show, "Shark Tank.")

    http://www.cnn.com/2016/09/25/politics/presidential-debate-preview-2016/index.html

OMG! OMG! This is too much! 😂 CNN feels compelled to stand up for Cuban, and the best they say is he's part of a more successful ensemble. (And I might ask, more successful than which show? I'm sensing some word-play.) Nobody's tuning into The Shark Tank for Cuban. They're watching Kevin O'Leary, maybe Barbara Corcoran. Not to mention, Tank is a spin off of a Japanese show called The Dragon's Den whereas The Apprentice is an original that spun off it's own franchise.

Why is this so hilarious to me? Well, I can't know if inviting Cuban to sit in the front row at the debate was an intimidation play on Hillary's part, but if it was, it completely failed!

  5. Arnold Palmer, not just a great Pennsylvanian but one of golf's greatest champions and ambassadors, José Fernandez (also a phenomenal ambassador and on-field talent), Bill Nunn, and Buckwheat Zydeco all leave us in the last 48-ish hours. How's that, 2016? Not enough death already this year, thought you'd pack it in with a little OT this weekend. Suck it, 2016!

  6. Re: Colorado voting - I saw a "poll" this morning that has Gary Johnson doing very well at 12%.

Some "independent experts" need to do a study on how many people "lost their doctors/lost their insurance" because of Obamacare. And how many people can't afford the rapid rise in deductibles. Has ANYONE saved that $2500 a year without losing most of their insurance benefits?

Not sure whether I will watch the debate tonight, though I think I have enough vodka if I have to.

42 1/2 days until the election...

  7. So in Southern California, law enforcement has lost 300+ guns (which I assume was evidence of some sort) and the INS has accidentally gave citizenship to over 800 illegal/supposed to be deported.

Explain why we want our government more in charge of our lives?

  8. tryanmax, Anthony and Bev, I really can't take the debate. I can't stand Hillary's shrill voice and her rotten cackling. And then watching these two human turd lies to us and spread stupidity is just too much for me.

  9. Critch, The government is all about do as I say, not as I do.

  10. tryanmax, Isn't it funny how the "impartial" news always feels compelled to attack conservatives/Republicans, but is utterly blind and indifferent to things done on the left?

  11. Eric, It's been a rough year in terms of celebrities I actually liked dying. Time seems to have caught up to my childhood.

  12. Bev, This is just another example of why "the experts" have lost their credibility. When so many "experts" are nothing more than partisan hacks, there's not point in listening.

I always find it amazing that anyone trusts government after its track record. Sadly, that's the herd instinct running those people.

Colorado is a state with a strong libertarian instinct. I'm not sure which way it will go, but I suspect they are helping elect Hillary. On the other hand, I don't see an Hillary supporters. So who knows?

  13. My thoughts:

    1. Charlotte has now completely de-legitimized the BLM by showing how crazy and out of control they are. People who may have had some empathy are now done with them. It also seems to be a good example for the benefit of on body cameras to protect the good police.

    2. Trump is more savvy than I expect or his daughter is running everything. He came out in the primaries looking a bit crazy but he has backed off significantly. Now liberals are running around acting crazy about how Trump is unstable and we all going to die! Now they look insane and Trump looks downright statesman. Talk about back-fire.

    3. Trumps campaign response to the NY Times endorsing Clinton and then running a smear editorial the next day was brilliant. In a statement titled: The Sun Also Rose in the East This Morning. They stated: " The news that the ultra-liberal, elitist, out-of-touch New York Times Editorial Board endorsed an ultra-liberal, elitist, out-of-touch candidate in Hillary Clinton has to be some of the least surprising news ever."

    3. Colorado is a weird place and I expect Clinton to carry it with 40% of the vote. There is a large group that literally would cut of their nose to spite their face. However, there are also large groups of evangelicals and for reasons that escape me, they like Trump.

  14. Koshcat,

    1. I agree. In fact, every time it seems like something happens that will give this cause momentum, these clowns come along and strip that away. And as hard as the media wants to invent momentum from a handful of NFL thugs and backups giving the black power salute (while simultaneously complaining that they don't mean anything by it and people shouldn't judge them), there is no momentum here. There just isn't.

    2. I think you put your finger on Trump perfectly. He's got the left running around screaming like they are insane about the sky falling and now he's acting rationally and making them look like fools.

    3. I always find it funny how hard liberal papers pretend to struggle ("after careful consideration and intense debate") before they endorse the liberals they've been pimping from day one. I wonder if they are intentionally trying to sell their con job or if they're just blind to their actions?

    4. Colorado is very strange. I'm leaning toward Trump winning the state by a hair. But I don't know. The thing that really worries me is this stupid amendment to create a single payer system in the state. That would be a disaster.

  16. The current polling on the single payer amendment has it losing in a landslide. You know you have a crappy position when both republicans and democrats are against you. All the hospitals, insurance companies, physicians, businesses, democratic governor, and pro-abortion groups are against it. Nothing has brought more Coloradans closer together than this issue.

The Colorado Medical Society ran a survey and about 80% of physicians would vote no. (88% if specialist and 72% of primary care). The anti position is running what I would consider non-scary ads as to why it is a bad idea. The thing probably killing it the most is the $25 Billion tax increase.

I was reading a puff article on the bill and they had a hilarious statement: "Residents who like their current insurance could keep it, but they would still have to pay the additional taxes." http://www.governing.com/topics/health-human-services/gov-colorado-single-payer-health-2016-ballot-measure.html

Gosh, were have we heard that line before?

  17. Andrew, I find the removal of facts from the election make the whole affair much more entertaining.

  18. Interesting article on Scott Adams' (Dilbert creator) take on the election. The better stuff is toward the end: LINK.

He also makes this really insightful point about Trump:

Adams also argues that Trump is using a tactic that the comic creator calls 'pacing and leading,' in which the billionaire takes an extreme side on an issue, matching Americans' emotional state.

'Once Trump has established himself as the biggest bad-ass on the topic, he is free to "lead,"' Adams contends. 'Which we see him do by softening his deportation stand, limiting his stop-and-frisk comment to Chicago, reversing his first answer on penalties for abortion, and so on.'

  19. tryanmax, I see where you are coming from, but I can't take her. She's nails on a chalkboard to me.

    ReplyDelete
  20. Koshcat, I'm fairly confident it will lose, but that doesn't make me less worried in the off chance it somehow doesn't. What a disaster that would be! Talk about pure idiocy!

  21. Andrew, true enough. That "Why aren't I 50 points ahead?" clip is still giving me nightmares. If it gets too bad, I can set the TV to auto-caption when mute is on. And, as always, I'll have a box of Hostess Zingers to keep me company!

  22. In the last two weeks I have driven from southern Missouri to Springfield, MO, to Memphis, to St Louis and to Kentucky...I have not seen ONE Hillary sign, not one. Just south of St Louis on I-55 is a huge sign in front of a farm that said, "TRUMP-No more Bulls**t!"

    ReplyDelete
  23. It's interesting. I haven't seen any Hillary or Trump campaign chatchkis either. Well, except for the giant "Trump Plaza" and other giant Trump signs on buildings here in NYC. No one wants to admit they are voting for anyone. There was someone I read about who was fined for too many Trump signs in his yard and a few cases of giant "T" in someone's yard being burned down on Staten Island. But nothing else. I am going to Texas this weekend and I will scope the yard sign situation there.

  24. FYI - I am going to try and watch the debate tonight. I might not make it through, but I am plying myself with liquor to smooth out the screech-factor beforehand.

Just wondering...do I get hazard pay or at least a small crown for trying? Pre, During, & Post Traumatic Stress Disorder is a real concern, so...is there a ruling from "The Management"? I am not sure my insurance covers "Debate Trauma" at least with Obamacare anyway. I didn't read that in any of the 2200+ pages.

  25. This is kinda lame, but I only thought of it half an hour ago.

  26. I...just...can't...watch. CBS already proclaimed that Clinton is the most experienced debater in the history of presidential debates (take THAT Lincoln!).

  27. I am trying...Tryanmax is a champ!!
