Some thoughts on Democrats.
● Liars and Hypocrites: Most people think the worst of their opponents in politics. If you step back and examine things honestly however, you generally discover this isn't true. Heck, even the evil Soviets weren't as bad as people imagined. With the Democrats, however, it is true. Their party is a wretched hive of scum, villainy, hate and treachery. Think about their recent behavior:
● So, So Wrong: As an aside, here are some of the things the Democrats have been wrong about during my life.
● Despite the actual impossibility of it being true, the Democrats are whining that the Russians hacked the election so they can de-legitimize the results. Think about that. They are actively trying to destroy the public's faith in the electoral system because they think it will benefit them.● Not Easy Getting The Green: The Green Party's™ Jill Stein dropped her PA recount and thereby confirmed that she really took leftists for a ride. She just earned about $6 million she never would have had by starting a fight she knew could not be won and then stopped once she had her money. Poor Hillary got a black eye joining her effort. Beautiful! **The Green Party is a registered trademark of the Democratic Party.
● They lie as a reflex to aggrandize themselves and demonize their opponents. Harry Reid lies so easily that I'm not sure he understands the difference between truth and lies. Pelosi lies automatically. And the rest are no better. Then there are the media who make lies and bias into an art form.
● They scaremonger blacks with the idea that whites are trying to kill them or put them into slavery. Look at the cop killings they've caused.
● They scaremonger young women with the idea that some old religious dude is going to control their sex lives and with lies about them being cheated in the economy.
● They scaremonger Hispanics with the idea that they will be deported.
● They scaremonger Muslims with the idea that they will be rounded up. That wannabe terrorist in Ohio was acting because he believed them.
● They scaremonger gays with the idea that everyone else wants to criminalize who they are.
● They exploit their "the end is near" environmentalism to push leftist ideology rather than actual solutions, all the while telling kids the world is dying. They won't even change their own behavior. Do you think they believe this?
● They endanger national security to undermine GOP administrations time and again, consorting with the enemy, trying to harm American defense, smearing soldiers, lending aid and comfort to terrorists and murderous regimes.
● They exploit all tragedies for fundraising.
● And ironically, Wikileaks showed us their leaders don't even believe the crap they tell their drones.
● So, So Wrong: As an aside, here are some of the things the Democrats have been wrong about during my life.
● Jimmy Carter will be our best president ever... he's so smart. (stagflation)What kind of fool would trust these people to decide anything?
● There will be massive starvation if populations keep increasing past 4 billion. (7 billion strong and fat as hell)
● We are on the verge of a global ice age!! Global warming will kill us all!
● Cities will flood because of global warming. (water level steady)
● There will be super hurricanes all the time. (lowest number in decades)
● Oil production has peaked and we will be out of oil in the next decade... repeat every decade.
● Ronald Reagan will be our worst President. (highest approval ratings, even liberals now claim they liked him)
● Ronald Reagan will start World War III. (ended risk of WWIII)
● Putting short range nuclear missiles in Europe will cause nuclear war!
● MAD is crazy and will kill us all (today: MAD kept us safe!)
● Reaganomics will not work. (4%+ growth)
● The Soviet Union is strong and unified and will never break. Their economy is too strong.
● You can't shoot down a missile.
● SDI will start a nuclear war.
● The Nicaraguan people love the Sandinistas. They'll vote them in in a landslide.
● We will lose if we invade Iraq and 60,000 American soldiers will die.
● Obama will be our greatest president ever... he's so smart.
● The public will accept Obamacare once we pass it.
● We can win without stupid white people. (worst showing since the Roaring 20's)
Well put on all counts. They really should be a dead party but they've still managed to thrive in no small part because mistakes on the right give their fearmongering enough credibility to take hold of people. We'll see how Trump and the new Congress, governors, and state legislatures do when it comes to fixing this damage. You'd think that the rioters and college safe spacers would have dealt a lot of damage to the left but they do seem hard to put down...
ReplyDelete- Daniel
And newly renewed House Minority Leader Nancy "We need to pass it to know what's in it" Pelosi stated that the Dems don't want (or need) a "new direction". I personally cannot wait for Keith Ellison to be appointed DNC Chair. More fun times yet to come.
ReplyDeleteThe Dems may be in free-fall already...their only parachute is most of the media attached to their butts....although conventional media seems to be having it's own issues...
ReplyDeleteI believe it was the great political sage Hillary Clinton who, when Trump said he would wait and see if he would accept the election results(in response to a hypothetical question, mind you) said that his answer was a threat to our political system. Then she signed on to Jill Stein's recount which has since collapsed. One more delicious humiliation for Grandma Kankles. The whole key to understanding the Progressive mindset is that their only belief is the pursuit of power. They therefore have no core principles. Core principles would anchor them to a set of standards and therefore a code of conduct. Because all they care about is power they have to adapt their actions to the circumstances they find themselves in.
ReplyDeleteGypsyTyger
GypsyT - Just to be accurate, Stein's recount only collapsed in PA. There is a current recount going on in WI where after the first day they found 1 vote for Clinton. so far.
ReplyDeleteA judge ordered that Michigan recount must begin immediately.
However I would not put it past anyone that there is the very good possibility of many paper ballots being found in many trunks, if necessary and against all odds, they will all be for Clinton! Perhaps the ones where the voter opted to not vote the President line. It will be the "hanging chads" of 2016...counters deciding what the voter meant to do, but didn't...
Yesterday a Trump supporter shot up a pizzeria (nobody was hurt) to save kids from Hillary Clinton. The parties have differing positions on some issues, but in terms of tactics and attitudes towards power once they hold or lose it, are largely indistinguishable.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.mediaite.com/online/rifleman-arrested-at-d-c-pizzeria-at-the-center-of-fake-news-story/
A North Carolina man was arrested on Sunday when he walked into Comet Ping Pong and started firing an assault rifle. In a statement picked up by CNN, Washington’s Metropolitan Police Department said no one was injured, thought the suspect told them that he went to the joint for the purpose of investigating #PizzaGate.
#Pizzagate is an anti-Hillary Clinton conspiracy theory that emerged from John Podesta‘s hacked emails released by WikiLeaks. Conspiracists on Reddit and 4Chan looked at mentions of pizza in the emails, eventually insisting it was part of a code proving Clinton and Podesta were involved in a child exploitation and sex operation that took place in Comet Ping Pong’s basement.
The story has been circulated by InfoWars, retired general Michael Flynn, and various pro-Donald Trump online forums. While there is no proof that the story is true (Comet Ping Pong doesn’t even have a basement), multiple reports say that the restaurant has received threats and harassment as the story kept spreading over the last few days. D.C. Police have said that the restaurant is not under investigation.
Daniel, I'm reluctant to credit much of the Democrats' success to Republican errors. The very point of scaremongering (and lying in general) is to take something real and distort it beyond all recognition. To hold Republicans' responsible for Democrats' willingness to fabricate is to demand something less attainable than perfection. Even God's words get twisted.
ReplyDeleteI keep going back to Todd Akin's "legitimate rape" comment. Akin used an awkward phrase in a statement of dubious scientific veracity. What he did not say is that some kinds of rape are okay or that women who say they were raped are liars, and he certainly didn't say that women ought to be broodmares. Furthermore, to the degree that Akin was ignorant, it certainly wasn't "dangerous" in any meaningful sense. Yet all these ideations took over the news cycle until they were considered Akin's truly and deeply held beliefs.
I use this just as a particularly stark example of what the GOP actually does get wrong all the time, which is to go scorched earth on any fellow Republican caught in the Democrats' cross-hairs. And it doesn't help that Republicans tend to issue grovelling apologies that make it seem like they actually said/did all the worst things Democrats invented for them. If anything, it is that tendency that lends credibility to Democrats' worst smears, and in that sense, I agree with you completely.
True to form, the #PizzaGate message boards are already lighting up with claims that the shooting was a "false flag" event designed to gin up sympathy for Comet Pizza. There is doubt being sown as to whether Welch is a real person, though more commonly, posters are noting his ties to his father's film production company, and his IMDb credit as a storyboard artist to suggest the shooting was a coordinated psy-op.
ReplyDeleteFor my part, I find it all fascinating. If nothing else, the ties between Comet, it's patrons, and some, frankly, bizarre artists that they seem to patronize, reveal a group of people that are severely out-of-touch with the mainstream. Not that that warrants a shooting. I think a serious oddsmaker would put a non-zero figure on the likelihood that Comet is a front for child-trafficking satanists.
Anthony, Yeah, this reminds me of last Monday when I had to spend 12 hours waiting on a flight and was subjected to what seemed like 18 hours of CNN...'BREAKING NEWS: ACTIVE SHOOTER AT OHIO STATE UNIVERSITY!!!!" for 8 hours with the pundits screaming about GUN CONTROL!!!! SEE, WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU LET PEOPLE HAVE GUNS!!!!! GUN CONTROL!!!!...until it turned out that the only 4 shot fired were by a cop taking down the Somalian/Muslim perp who rammed his car and proceeded to hack people with a butcher knife (or machete)...oops, fortunately there were not loud calls for SHARP OBJECT AND AUTO CONTROL!!!!
ReplyDeleteAll that being said, I read this morning that multiple witnesses at the NC pizzaria reported that they did not hear any shots fired while anyone was in the restaurant. What's the truth? "Fake News" works both ways, so maybe the journalists can get back to the business of reporting facts and not just getting stuff on the wires before anyone knows what actually happened.
Daniel, The Democrats just had their worst showing since the 1920's and they've been trending that way since 2008. This is against pathetic Republican opposition. So I would say the public is issuing a judgment against them.
ReplyDeleteAs for the GOP, they have an opportunity here with Trump and he seems intent on taking it. I am cautiously optimistic.
Bev, Pelosi really is the prime example, though she's ultimately no different than the others at the top of the party. She lies in extreme ways every time she opens her mouth. In many ways, she is Goebels in a way, telling the most ridiculous Nazi Party lines about the Jews and whoever else every time she speaks without conscience or shame. And that's not hyperbole -- her rhetoric is just as vile. The big difference is that whereas Goebels believed his crap, Pelosi knows she's lying.
ReplyDeleteCritch, The only thing keeping the Democrats competitive is that the media and Hollywood back them and help hide their excesses while trying to make their smears sound rational.
ReplyDeleteGypsyTyger, Exactly. They have no principles. They have lies they tell groups to gain their votes. That's it.
ReplyDeleteThe level of hypocrisy on the left is astounding. Even more astounding is that they don't seem capable of grasping it. They can reconcile any contradictory positions they want with no problem. That's a sure sign of an emotional "thinker" rather than anyone rational.
Bev, The Wisconsin people already explained that none of the machines she claims were hacked were connected to the internet. Any changes they are likely to find are more likely to be wishful thinking during the recount than anything else.
ReplyDeleteIn any event, there was an interesting article the other day explaining that Stein can't win no matter what. She would need all three states to switch to Hillary and that's apparently impossible given the time frame. So what would happen, best case for her, would be it would go to the House, where Trump wins.
And now it looks like she's trying to drop PA to avoid spending another million dollars. She has also collected close to $7 million when she only needs three and she's apparently still going. This has been a money grab.
Anthony, And?
ReplyDeleteSo one crazy guy went nuts and didn't even hurt anyone because of an obviously false rumor floated at the fringes about a pizza shop.
On the other hand, the Democratic machine and every Democrat who can find a microphone and their fellow travelers in the media and in academia have been obsessively telling blacks, women, gays and now Muslims: those evil white Republican Christian men want to enslave you and take away everything you have. They are the reason you live in crappy neighborhoods, your kids go to crappy schools, 40% of you are unemployed and the rest of rest of you don't get promoted. It's a vast conspiracy of racists/sexists to control and destroy out. They are behind all of your personal failings. Hell, they even made you fat by putting a McDonald's near your ghetto. Oh, and now they're letting rich young men rape you and racist white cops hunt you for sport.
You want to compare the two?
tryanmax, I think the Democrats have been successful at terrorizing a segment of the population, but have lost everyone else in the process.
ReplyDeleteThat said, they didn't manage this alone. It helped that the media has covered for them and runs "factual" stories to support their dogma. It also helps that the GOP (1) gives too much power to their crazy fringe who embrace much of the left's scaremongering, (2) doesn't handle it well when things go wrong (panicky as hell), and (3) doesn't have a legitimate agenda that minimizes the Democratic rhetoric.
Drop the "abortion, gays and fellate big business" agenda and go for something that appeals to real people, and the Democrats would become a 30% party.
tryanmax, Always remember, message boards are dominated by the crazy and the obnoxious. It is where basement dwellers go to get their crazy on and act like revolutionaries. Don't lose track of that. The real world lies elsewhere.
ReplyDeleteIn all honesty, I think one day they will finally require people to register with real names to go online and that will wipe those people out.
Bev, That's the left for you. Exploit every tragedy.
ReplyDeleteIn fact, I was going to write about that, but couldn't bring myself to care. This guy whined that he was afraid that he was going to get shot while praying because of Trump.
Think about that. That's evidence of (1) liberal propaganda striking home in an unstable mind (a rational mind would realize that doesn't happen), and (2) an indictment of our immigration policy, which doesn't teach these people who is acceptable in America and what isn't before turning them loose.
In other words, this crap might have happened in Somalia or Pakistan (where he came from), but it doesn't here. And it's irresponsible for the left to use the kind of rhetoric to say it would happen under Trump.
But you know, that doesn't push a leftist ideology, so it's better to blame the stabbing on guns.
From Nick Searcy's Facebook page, rather apropos here today. Nick, for those who don't know, adopted Omar, who happens to be black, shortly after Omar was born, as well as has an actress daughter.
ReplyDelete(PART ONE)
Recently, a well-meaning young friend of mine asked me politely and sincerely why I voted for Trump. He said he honestly wanted to know, that he was trying to understand people that thought differently than he did about the election.
This was my response:
Hey, ____,
I appreciate the sincerity of your question.
I have been an anti-Democrat for a long time. I’m not so much a Republican as i am someone who votes against Democrats to stop what I believe to be a hard-left, centralized, top-down totalitarian form of government that is now the official philosophy, especially after Obama, of the Democrat party.
I believe in individual liberty and smaller gov’t. And the only way to have smaller gov’t is to reduce the amount of money the gov’t can confiscate. While the GOP has disappointed me greatly over the last 4 years, with their unwillingness to stand up to Obama’s hurtful programs, which are designed to cause misery in the private sector and collapse the American economy (please look up “Cloward-Piven Strategy,” it is part of their playbook, and not a joke), the Democrats are not an alternative for me.
The push by Obama and the Democrats during his two terms in office has been to try to take over as much of the American economy as possible, often, especially in the case of Obamacare, by corruptly folding the large insurance companies into the scheme by designing a huge payoff to them right into the bill itself, and thereby forcing Americans to buy health insurance. (Now to me, it doesn’t matter if one thinks that health insurance is a good idea, and people SHOULD buy it: in principle, I am against the government FORCING consumers to buy a product.)
Now as far as Trump himself: As you might have ascertained from my public statements, he was never my choice. The only candidate I really liked was Fiorina. But, when it came down to it and the choice was Trump or Hillary -- I could not vote for corruption and the hijacking of our government by a criminal enterprise, which is what I consider the Clintons to be.
Even though Trump was not my choice, however, he is, strangely enough, in the category of people I have supported in the past. I have ALWAYS wanted an independent businessman, someone from the private sector and not the political class, to be the President. This is why I supported Herman Cain in 2012 and Carly this year. I do think our system has been corrupted, by members of both parties, and I think Trump’s stunning upset is because a huge number of people out there, like me, no longer trust the lies that our government tells us in order to manipulate us politically.
(PART TWO)
ReplyDeleteI also find Trump to be far LESS socially conservative than GOP nominees in years past. His statement on gay marriage this past week I agreed with (He said it had been decided at the Supreme Court level, and he has no interest in revisiting it), and I found his embrace of Peter Thiel at the convention and in fact, what he said about the NC Bathroom laws to be much more libertarian than conservative, and I personally think that is a plus. His statements about the NC bathroom laws put him at odds with some conservatives who backed it. He is, without a doubt, the most LBGTQ-friendly nominee the GOP has ever had.
But the Democrats continue to call him a racist who will not “protect” the LGBTQ community, etc., and frankly, the reason they do that is because that is all they have to offer. The Democrats’ policies do not work, they always result in economic devastation and disaster -- look at Detroit, Baltimore, Chicago, on and on, all wastelands, all under Democrat rule for 50 or more years -- so the only chance they have is to divide America up into groups of victims and then say “the evil Republicans hate you and want to kill you and if you don’t vote for us, you are voting for white people to murder you and any black person or woman who votes Republican is a traitor and is going to Hell” and so on. Before Trump, Romney was the biggest racist that ever lived, and McCain before that, and Bush before that, and Reagan before that. It is literally the only argument they have.
(PART THREE)
ReplyDeleteAnother case in point is the way Democrats characterize Trump’s proposal of a border wall as racist. (While I was not a Trump supporter in the primaries, I did agree with the border wall, and still do.) I like to ask my Democrat friends if they lock their doors at night, and if they do, why that is not just as heartless and racist as a border wall. After all, someone might need something in your house, and by locking them out, you are allowing “fear” or “Xenophobia” to rule your life.
I want a wall, not to keep “Mexicans” or any other particular group of people out, but to control who is coming in to our country, because some people could be sneaking in to commit acts of terror, and I want to protect the people that are citizens of this country from them. No one would tolerate a situation in which you had no idea who was coming in to your own house or property or what their intentions were, and no one should tolerate that situation on the border either.
So then I ask myself: why do Democrats want an open border anyway? Why would they want an endless stream of mostly poor and desperate people to flood into the country, becoming dependent on our social programs, taxing our school systems and medical facilities, and on and on? And the only answer that makes sense to me is that they WANT a huge number of people dependent on government support, because they cynically believe that dependent voters will vote for Democrats, so as to keep the benefits coming.
That may sound harsh and far-fetched to you, but it makes sense if you look at all Democrat/leftist policies as a whole. Why do Democrats insist there is no such thing as voter fraud, when every year more examples of it are found? It’s because they want voter fraud to go on, because they think it helps them. No other explanation makes sense. If any political party advocated that we do away with ID checks at liquor stores, one would have to assume that party wanted more underage ( or “ineligible”) drinkers to be able to purchase alcohol. Again, no other explanation makes sense.
In closing, I would also ask you to ask yourself if I am a monster, a racist who wants poor people to suffer and die, and who spends every waking moment trying to figure out how to keep people of color from voting or succeeding in life. I am sure I am not the only person you know who voted for Trump. Are all of us monsters? And if we are not, please ask yourself why the Democrat Party, from the President of the United States down to the lowliest poll-watcher at your local precinct, feels the need to demonize people like me and my wife and my parents every single day and mischaracterize us as racist, sexist, gay-hating xenophobes who hate everybody who isn’t white? I think you know me well enough to know that is not true, that is not how I live my life or treat my friends or my son’s and daughter’s friends or anyone I come in contact with, and it is not how ANY of the people I know, good friends who vote against Democrats, live their lives. So why do they have to lie about me and people like me on a daily basis?
The Democrat party, now more than ever, is a party dominated by leftist radicals who want to institute a totalitarian government like the one in 1984, complete with acceptable, PC-language, approved opinions, thought police and demonized opponents of the “State,” and for one purpose: CONTROL.
I hope this helps!
Nick

ReplyDeleteLOLOLOL! Ok. I had to laugh.
For decades sportswriters pushed hard for a college football playoff system. This desire comes from an errant aspect of human nature which causes us to want to classify everything, even things that can't be ranked.
Anyways, they presented every argument they could in favor of the system and dismissed the negatives. But all these arguments boiled down to "I need to know who is best!"
What they didn't understand is that they could not KNOW. No matter how they structured it, there would always be arguments about luck, bad calls and teams who would have had a better shot.
A few years ago, the BCS system was created to create a sort of championship within the bowl system. The idea was to pit number one against number two while maintaining the importance of the bowls. Obviously, this would not be enough and it wasn't. So they finally went for the four team playoff system that exists today.
At the time, all these sportswriters swore it would "finally end the controversy." Well, only an idiot would believe that, but they drank the Kool Aid and off they went. I, on the other hand, told these people that they were silly to believe this would workd and that it would only be a matter of time before they decided they needed 8 (and then 16) teams in the mix.
The problem is, as they seemed incapable of observing, there will always been controversy at the bottom. Sure, 1 and 2 might be obvious but 3 and 4 and 5 and 6 etc. are not. This year, it's blown up. 1 is obvious, the rest are not. Penn State deserves to be there more than Ohio State. Michigan would beat Washington and Clemson. Yet neither made the four game tournament. There are even a couple more with a good shot of winning.
So today, I saw my first sports writer declare that HE had the ULTIMATE solution for this problem. Why, it's so simple and no one has thought of it before... expand the playoffs to eight teams.
LOL! Idiots.
AP, you mean a Michigan team which lost two of its final three games, including one to an unranked Iowa, which dropped the Wolverines from #3 to ... #3? Asking for a friend as this Nittany Lion A-OK with the Rose Bowl while the NCAA brain-trust continues their love affair with Bama and the Buckeyes.
ReplyDeleteYou wouldn't be talking about Dan Wetzel's 8-team proposal, would you?
Eric, That is fantastic! Well said, Nick!
ReplyDeleteEric, Indeed, I am. I had to laugh when I saw him propose that bit of magic to solve all of our problems. This is going to sweep the world of sportswriting. I guarantee it.
ReplyDeleteThe problem is that there will always be controversy. Even if you get the right teams, there is still injury and weather conditions and bad calls etc.
As an aside, this is how liberalism works in microcosm:
1. Invent problem.
2. Impose easiest sounding solution that misunderstands actual issue and can't solve problem.
3. When system doesn't work, whine about injustice, blame "THEY" for making it this way.
4. Tweak system to adjust for current reason system doesn't work, which won't actually solve the problem either.
5. Repeat Steps 3 and 4 until system is unworkable.
6. Whine about "the system," lament that it every got this wrong, and advocate new solution that fundamentally misunderstands the problem.
Rinse and repeat.
P.S. Michigan should have won the Ohio State game.
RE: College Football playoff, the sportswriters need to get over themselves and just acknowledge that there's a lot of money to be made and that's why they want it. I realize that a handful of them do admit this, but that should be the whole story, top-to-bottom. LOL
ReplyDeleteP.S. If I start saying loopy things that make no sense, it's only because I'm in my second month of sleep-deprivation torture, aka, caring for a newborn.
ReplyDeleteCase in point, just a second ago, I looked at the Dr. Pepper can on my desk and thought, "Someone should make a Dr. Pepper flavored beer." Why? WHY!?
Tryanmax - You don't seem loopy at all! And why not DP flavored beer? They have pumpkin flavored beer. All DP is prune juice extract, or so the urban legend goes...;-)
ReplyDeleteI see the new baby is doing is exactly what Baby T-Max was designed to do...make Mommy & Daddy go insane, so the Baby T can put in effect the plan for world domination.
[I learned this from watching documentaries like "The Family Guy"!]
LOL! Thanks for the heads up, Bev.
ReplyDeleteAndrew,
ReplyDeleteIf you really need more examples, birtherism (first for Obama, later for Cruz), Trump's celebratory tweet when a woman was shot (he celebrated its implications for his campaign, not her death), Rush trying to convince his followers Obama sending troops to figbt the Lord's Resistance Army was an example of anti-Christian bias and Trump claiming a judge who made a decision he didn't like was Hispanic and therefore biased, and of course the infamous terrorist fist bump are all examples of the right being perfectly willing to pull the same crap the left does.
What separates left and right are not tactics, but positions on a handful of issues.
Tryanmax, I meant in all areas: PR, policy, and general handling of errors. If they were better at these areas then I agree the Democrats' tactics would be much less successful, but they generally haven't been good at any of that. Like Andrew said, they do have an opportunity to improve on these areas with Trump, especially since Pelosi's reelection and Ellison's ascent indicates that the Democrats intend to double down on their own idiocy, but we'll see how it goes. And while I don't know about Dr. Pepper flavored beer Jack Daniel's Black Jack Cola is a Pepsi-flavored one if that's close enough for you!
ReplyDeleteEric, awesome post by Searcy. I especially like the part where he emphasized that most people who vote against Democrats are quite normal and treat people of all races, sexes, orientations, etc. well and with respect, pointing out the lies involved in insisting otherwise. To paraphrase one of my my favorite gaming characters, if you have to define the isms and phobias to the point of microaggressions and damned if you do and damned if you don't then you've just expanded the definitions of those terms to the point of absurdity.
- Daniel
The Demo hit(-piece)s just keep on comin' today, this one courtesy Taki's Mag. If I didn't know any better (i.e., I'm an American, not an identity politics merchant), I'd swear it was White Boy Day for all the Charlie Bronson Mr. Majestyk fans!
ReplyDeletehttp://takimag.com/article/how_the_left_strangled_itself_with_identity_politics_jim_goad/print#ixzz4S0dVBokJ
Anthony, all those things are true, but none of them falls into the "they're out to get you" category. That pretty much falls to the issues of taxes and guns. They're taking your money to keep you from prospering and they want your guns so they can oppress you. The right definitely has their scare politics, you've just misidentified them. (For my part, I think the bad tax policy is unicorn-fart thinking, and the gun policy is born of their own fear of guns.)
ReplyDeleteAnthony, You're equating a few crazy theories put out there by fringe groups that send the signal "I don't like them" but don't suggest a personal threat to any of the audience members, which theories and crazies are promptly repudiated by every reputable GOP figured in the word, to a concerted, continuous effort by massive numbers of Democratic leaders, opinion leaders and rank and file to tell these groups that they are have been cheated and will be killed or raped.
ReplyDeleteThose two aren't even in the same ball park when it comes to comparable.
tryanmax, Loopy can be fun. As for Dr. Pepper beer, why not? LOL!
ReplyDeleteDaniel, I still think the key is to get genuine agenda. People will forgive a little crazy when they like you generally. They don't forgive you when you're all about crazy.
ReplyDeleteEric, "Minoritarian mini-tyrant." Nice!
ReplyDeletetryanmax, The right has its own scaremongering, but it's much smaller and much less menacing. It's theoretical stuff... they aren't Christian! They want your guns! Compare that: "they will murder you in the streets, enslave your children and let roving gangs of white boys rape you."
ReplyDeleteAndrew, precisely the point I was hoping to make. Right wing scaremongering is mostly, they're gonna take your stuff and tell you not to pray." Left wing scaremongering is, "they're going to enslave, torture and kill you." And when you consider that false accusations are generally projections, well…
ReplyDeletetryanmax, I think that's a key point. The character of the scaremongering is significantly different. The right wing stuff may be unpleasant, but it isn't existential. The left wing stuff is YOU WILL DIE!
ReplyDeleteJust as importantly though, think about who is pushing each. On the right, you have fringers. And when they do it, a dozen legitimate GOP types come out and castigate them for it. On the left, this stuff is being pushed by the whole collective and no one ever apologizes or refutes it. Even when they are caught in a flat out lie, the others circle the ranks and say it is still "understandable" and is basically true even if it isn't true.
One of these things is not like the other.
Andrew,
ReplyDeleteTrump is the President elect and Rush is far and away the most popular talk show host. Drudge, Breitbart and to a lesser extent Fox are all very popular and very big on conspiracies.
Clearly there is a positive correlation between conspiracy crap and popularity on the right. The 'legitimate' guys who object are doing so from the sidelines high up in the bleachers.
As for leftist tactics, for blacks the scaremongering is largely 'the deck is tilted against you and X will see that it stays that way', for gays it is a return to the closet, for Arabs and non-Cuban Hispanics, mass deportation (ironic since Obama deported far more people than any other president).
I agree the left is much more unified in their fearmongering.
Anthony, I think you're under the misimpression that someone is claiming the right is bereft of conspiracy theories and innuendoes. No one is claiming that. Perhaps you can claim there is no such thing as a benign rumor, but surely we can agree there are degrees of malevolence. The classic right wing bogeyman is a foreign invader, perhaps with domestic ties even at the highest levels. The classic left wing bogeyman is your fellow citizen, your neighbor, your coworker, your boss, your employee, your parents, children, siblings, and spouse!
