Let's just dive right in...
First up, June 11, 2017 - Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade:
Throughout the year, NYC has a series of annual parades to celebrate the diversity that is makes up the mosaic of our population in here. We have parades for everything from Gay Pride to Tartan Pride to St. Patrick's Pride. All to emphasize the great mosaic that is NYC. But this year is particularly special.
On June 11, 2017, NYC will honor it's first terrorist in the annual Puerto Rican Day parade! At the urging of the NYC City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, NYC will be honoring a man who once had a hand in bombing us - Oscar López Rivera. Oscar López Rivera had been in federal prison since 1981, convicted for "seditious conspiracy" to overthrow the the government of the United States, in relation to his membership in the Fuerzas Armadas de Liberación Nacional, or FALN. Between 1974 and 1983, the FALN claimed responsibility for more than 70 bombings in New York, Chicago and Washington, D.C. The bombings caused millions in property damage, dozens of injuries and five deaths.
Their most famous was a bombing at Fraunce's Tavern in lower Manhattan that killed 4 people including police officers and maiming dozens of other. [For you history buffs, Fraunce's Tavern was where Gen Washington bid farwell to his troops.] Barack Obama commuted his 55 year sentence to 35 years of this convicted felon in the 11th hour of his presidency and he was released from prison. Mark-Viverito flew down to Puerto Rico to greet him on his exit.
As of today, most if not all of the corporate sponsors of the parade have pulled out including the Police Commissioner and the Puerto Rican police societies. Even the Governor of Puerto Rico is condemning Lopez' honor. Amazingly Gov. Cuomo, Sen. Schumer, and a myriad of other city/state officials have come up with last minute "scheduling conflicts", so they can't march. Only Mayor DeBlasio and Mark-Viverito who are proud to march along side a known convicted terrorist. It will interesting to see what happens next as many in the Puerto Rican community are declining to attend because they never wanted this great celebratory parade to be tainted with politics.
**UPDATE** Rivera has declined to be honored by the Puerto Rican Parade and will just march as a regular participant. Though DeBlasio had decided before this announcement that he would march in the parade, but not with Rivera. Mark-Viverito remains silent...finally.
Next up: Alamo RoadHouse/Feminist discrimination with Steve Miller aka @redsteeze...
Oh, come on this has been going on for days on Twitter. Alamo Drafthouse, a longtime movie theatre/bar-restaurant (originating in Dallas in the '80's) opened up a chain in Brooklyn where they announced they would be having a special Women's Only showing of "Wonder Woman" - No Men Allowed. Well, at least one man (Steve Miller of Twitter Blue-check fame) took exception to the advertising and bought a ticket. Well, you'd think that he had killed a puppy! The screaming/shouting/ranting at him on Twitter went on all through Memorial Day weekend and into the last few days. (Well, until Kathy Griffin took over...) How dare a man want to...well, you can imagine. Miller's point is that you can't demand equality on one hand and discriminate on the other. Yeah, it's just a movie and before it was just a cake or a florist or the Little Sisters of Charity. What Miller did most was just help point up how intrenched the "Rules of Thee, BUt Not For Me" have become for our lefty friends.
Now for the finish - Continuing Saga of the Bull, The Fearless Girl, and...a Pissing Dog??? Oy...
Okay, now this was really funny. Well, at least for me. So remember the Wall Street Bull statue issue a few months ago? Yeah, the one where one of the big Wall Street investment firms decided, as a marketing gimic to add a statue of a little girl standing up against the Bull to...oh, I don't even care what for. It became a thing about gender equality or something. The Bull artist was upset because it destroyed the original vision of his artwork. Lawsuits ensued
Well, anyway, this weekend, another clever artist decided to add his own piece to the mix to show solidarity to the original "Bull" artist. He added a paper mache dog hiking his leg on the the Fearless Girl...
By the way, the dog didn't last long, but it sure was funny. I was hoping someone would add either a "Dog Catcher With Net" or a "Truant Officer" next. Heck even a "Matador With Cape" would work...
So to end, I am stealing the fitting tagline from famous NY Post Gossip Columnist Cindy Adams: "Only in New York, kids, only in New York!".

The statue was about how mega-corporations fearlessly con progressives with faux-guerilla art that insults real guerilla art.
ReplyDeleteNow that was funny. GypsyTyger
DeleteWell said, Kit.

Bev, They aren't terrorists if the left likes them. Then they are activists.
ReplyDeleteOn the statue, I've shared some thoughts before, but I will share them again:
1. Curious choice for feminists to represent themselves as little girls.
2. Shows the stupidity of feminists to "stand up to" a symbol of prosperity. Not afraid of good times, huh?
3. If you have tell the world you are something then you are not that thing.
4. It's pathetic feminists are looking to corporate sponsored art to bring them meaning.
5. Any woman who needs a statute to feel empowered is a worthless dipsh*t.
6. This is absolutely an infringement on the bull author's art as it changes the meaning. That's generally viewed as a no no. But I guess we can now add "Rocky Horror" lips to "The Scream," so I'm cool with that.
7. The dog fits perfectly for the level of dignity of this whole affair.
8. Feminists can dish it out (half-assed at least), but they sure can't take it.
1. I had thought nothing that could possibly happen to the Puerto Rican terrorist Obama freed would bother me but him getting a parade bothers me.
ReplyDelete2. I'm still skeptical about Wonder Woman's quality. The last several DC movies have been horrendous.
Anthony, just published this morning. Rivera has decided NOT to be honored by this parade, but just march like everyone else.
ReplyDeletere: Wonder Woman - I don't understand why they are hawking this as "empowering women" while making her look like a sexed up black clad Dominatrix with spiked heeled boots and whip?
Kit - That "marketing" aspect of the "Fearless Girl" is what annoys the "Bull" artist the most. Like "Wonder Woman", really don't understand why having a little girl as "empowering to women"? Don't any women have real life women who have inspired them?? I know I have.
ReplyDeleteAndrew - Yes to all! Once again...WHAT IS WRONG WITH WOMEN TODAY THAT THEY NEED DOMINATRICES AND LITTLE GIRLS TO "EMPOWER THEM"???
ReplyDeleteOkay, I will stop yelling now...
Bev,
ReplyDeleteWonder Woman was created by a psychologist who was into BDSM and sex with multiple partners :).

Viewing comic books as a potential tool to educate and influence the masses, Marston wanted to create a hero who would represent (what he considered) feminine values of kindness and compassion, without being perceived as weak. So he created Wonder Woman as the female answer to Superman.
Now, Marston was a bit of an interesting character. A feminist who preached the virtues of womankind throughout his life, Marston lived with two women. One was his wife, and the other, his lover. Both women were apparently perfectly happy with the arrangement, and both provided inspiration for Wonder Woman.
Elements of Marston’s character trickled down into his famous creation, notably in her peculiar choice of weapon, the Lasso of Truth. For Marston was an enthusiastic fan of bondage, and female domination. The Lasso binds Wonder Woman’s opponent, forcing them to reveal their innermost secrets. It’s not hard to see the connection between the weapon and Marston’s role in creating the lie detector. And, you know, bondage.
OT: If anyone is looking a "feel good" piece of sorts, check this out. It's about the rioters who were arrested in DC for "protesting Trump." They are in serious legal trouble and they are whining like babies about how unfair this is and how not enough people support them. It's glorious in its schadenfreude.
ReplyDeleteIt's also interesting to see how blatantly misleading the article is. The author sidesteps all their crimes, assumes far left idiocy as true, and keeps trying to sell the idea they were just protesting when they were arrested... pay no attention to the fires and violence.

Bev, I don't get it. It's creepy and weird. And to answer your question, no, I don't think most Hollywood/MSM feminists can name any real women of achievement. They only fields they recognize are their own, when selling your body is what gets you ahead.
ReplyDeleteGriffin blamed Trump for breaking her and making her post the gross photo. She also says she is being bullied and her mom won't talk to her. Boo hoo.
ReplyDeleteI don't get the whining about Trump pulling out of the Paris Accords. It was never submitted to the Senate so it's just a thing Obama was doing, which of course is not binding now that he is gone. Most of the private sector seems to favor environmentalism so it's not like the move will be a big deal on the ground.
ReplyDeleteIn better news, here is Patty Jenkins, the director of the new Wonder Woman movie stating some things I agree with:
ReplyDelete---------------------------
Did you say cheesy? Cheesy is one of the words banned in my world. I’m tired of sincerity being something we have to be afraid of doing. It’s been like that for 20 years, that the entertainment and art world has shied away from sincerity, real sincerity, because they feel they have to wink at the audience because that’s what the kids like. We have to do the real stories now. The world is in crisis.
I wanted to tell a story about a hero who believes in love, who is filled with love, who believes in change and the betterment of mankind. I believe in it. It’s terrible when it makes so many artists afraid to be sincere and truthful and emotional, and relegates them to the too-cool-for-school department. Art is supposed to bring beauty to the world.
---------------------------
"Art is supposed to bring beauty to the world." I agree.
Now, she is probably liberal and may not recognize where the cynicism in art comes from (the Marxists) but regardless, she is right. Cynicism and the "too-cool-for-school" attitude of many artists is hurting art as a whole.
Can't wait to see the movie!
By the way, if you want more on this problem I recommend Sohrab Amary's The New Philistines and Sir Roger Scruton's Beauty: A Very Short Introduction.
You can also watch Sir Roger Scruton's 1-hour documentary about Beauty: LINK.
True, both they are more about high literature and art than comic book movies but I think the principle, the idea of beauty being destroyed by too-cool-for-school ugliness and cynicism, is closely linked to what she talks about above.
The New Philistines is a very good, short introduction to this problem.
ReplyDeleteKit, I hope she means it. If so, that bodes well for the film -- which does have a fantastic trailer.
ReplyDeleteAnthony, The left is all about symbolism. They don't care about substance. Substance is hard and too often (always) seems to blue up on them... so they do symbolism. And here is Satan himself undoing a glorious symbolic act of Obama meant to save the world. So of course they are whining.
ReplyDeleteThere's hope for Trump yet.
ReplyDeletehttp://www.foxnews.com/opinion/2017/06/02/erotic-drag-performance-at-grade-school-talent-show-shocks-parents.html
Parents are furious after children as young as 5-years-old were exposed to an erotic drag show performance at what was supposed to be a school district talent show.
The New York Daily News described the lewd performance as “complete with gyrations, tongue gymnastics and a flashed G-string.”
The May 25th performance shocked and enraged parents who could not believe the school district would allow a grown man to spread his legs and display his crotch to wide-eyed children.
