9/11/2001 Open Thread

It is hard to believe that 16 years have passed since the 9/11/2001 terrorist attack. I am not really big on reliving that day since I lived it it up-close and personal, but know that much progress has been made and the WTC is up and running like it use to be.

It's funny what one remembers, so let me share this one memory. It was a beautiful, cool morning on 9/11/2001 at around 7am. It was the first after a long, hot sweaty summer. It was one of those mornings that it was hard to get out of bed because it was just so cool and comfortable. Because the weather was so perfect that morning, the radio broadcaster on my local radio station said what would turn out to be these fateful words when giving the weather report:
"There is no other way to say it...it's gonna be perfect day"
Tragically, it was not.

Feel free to post your thoughts or memories you may want to share. As always, feel free to change the subject.

  1. I still remember when all came crashing down. I didn't hear about it until mid-afternoon, when video of Hillary stumbling and being propped up by secret service agents as she left a memorial ceremony started circulating on social media. Oh, wait, that was the collapse of Hillary's presidential campaign! My apologies to anyone who still feels it's too soon for a little levity.

  2. Tryanmax - After 16 yrs, I think a little levity is needed! And hmmm, it does seem like the Clintons crashed and burned just like this. But never fear, they will rise like Ancient phoenixes (?) from the ashes! And Hillary will tell how they'll do it! [Insert plug for "What Happened" here]

  3. Some more levity in the face of disaster:

A few days ago, Michael Moore, presumably referring to Donald Trump and Hurricane Irma, tweeted: Has he opened up Mar-a-Lago as a shelter yet?

To which Donald Trump Jr. replied: It's on an island on both the ocean & intercostal and in a mandatory evacuation zone... probably not the best idea, but you know, narrative! 5:28 PM - 10 Sep 2017

Too bad Moore has never encountered a fact he couldn't ignore.

  4. Oh, Michael Moore is just drumming up ticket sales to his one-ass show "Terms Of My Surrender" running on Broadway right now. Ironically or planned, his show is running on the same block as a new musical - "1984".

  5. Howdy folks! Still alive. I'm hoping to get into a wound clinic this week. Then everything should get better and I'll start writing more again. Sorry for the delay.

  6. Best wishes Andrew. Take care of yourself first.

  7. Hey Andrew! I second Tryanmax in the "take care of yourself" department! There's really nothing going on anyway...just floods, fires, earthquakes, hurricanes, locusts, boils etc. Just the usual Biblical 4 Horseman of the Apocalypse stuff...

  8. We even had frogs back before the election. Keep a good eye on your firstborn sons.

  9. Andrew; We'll all still be here when you get back. Liberals will still be doing stupid things. Take all the time you need.

  10. The Civil Engineering Squadron commander in my old Air Guard unit was a NYC firefighter...(He was a traditional guardsman, one weekend a month etc). I remember the 1st anniversary of the attacks...we had a lot of speakers at a memorial service in the main hangar..we had the usual patriotic blather, then the chaplains spoke and reminded all of us to seek forgiveness...blah, blah, blah...and then the colonel got up there...he was great....it went something like, "I want to give those F*%$+r's an enema with a 500 pound bomb...I want to kill so many of those camel humpers their descendants are talking about it for 300 years...!" He was on a roll.

It was a great harangue to the troops...BTW, he really was a great commander...
