Villaraigosa certainly wasn’t expecting an MSNBC fellow traveler to question the Democratic propaganda, and he ended up sputtered his way through claiming the Democrats have more minority mayors and members of Congress. The logic of this is, of course, ridiculous. How does the GOP having more minority Governors but not as many minority mayors support the claim that the GOP is hostile to minorities?
In any event, this gives us a good opportunity to mention some of the rising minority players in the GOP. These are only those with national prominence at the moment, or recent fame, so don't even think this list is close to complete.

Despite Democratic efforts to smear the Republican Party as hostile to minorities and as all white, there are a great many minorities in prominent positions within the party. Moreover, with few exceptions, the people listed above are up and comers who are or will soon be leaders of the party. And with Romney's continuing outreach efforts, look for the racial-political mix to change significantly before 2020, with many more minorities abandoning the Democratic Party, which offers little except divisiveness.

Doc, I'm not sure about Todd, but I've heard his name come up in good ways in the past... unlike most of the MSNBC crew. He may be a real journalist? Who knows.
Stan, That's entirely possible. I think a lot of the criticism by journalists on the left these days is because they think Obama is going to lose, so they are trying to (1) gain some credibility by showing they are independent and (2) they are pushing for the next Democratic leader to be further left.
I just want to compliment the look of the new site. It keeps well with the other portals and the header is good and bold. I like the subheading. IOW: "liberals need not apply" LOL!

The subheading actually mirrors the one at the film site, with the idea being that we're not just a bunch of conservatives, because we really do have a wide variety of opinions around here.
One leaves the country for a while, and interesting changes ensue. I assume the mast head "for conservatives and independents" reflects that liberals (to borrow from Jack Nicholson) "can't handle the truth" and would probably not hang around very long. Well, one can always hope I suppose.
Fascinating list! I know there are a lot more, but this is already quite a collection. You would hope that average people would see this and realize that the democrats are full of it when they claim there are no minority or women Republicans.
Jed, I've lost patience with our liberal friends because they have stopped using their brains. If they want to come talk like reasonable human beings and swap ideas, then I'm all for it. But all they want to do is come yell or print troll-like stuff, then I don't think any of us are interested.
DUQ, That's been the lie for some time now. It's part of the Democratic strategy to try to maximize minority votes, by painting the GOP as racist and hostile. I'm sure the irony is not lost on anyone on the right that (1) they use racist and sexist attacks against Republican minorities, and (2) the only real pockets of racism left in the country tend to be in big liberal cities.
When caught in a sewer of lies, the response is to lie some more.
Joel, At this point, lying has become a reflex. It didn't used to be. I remember them still speaking the truth (though spinning) in the 1980s, but by this point it's all about lies. I think that's because they lost the war of ideas on economics so they have nothing left to win people over with.
Let's add to that list some prominent black thinkers, like Walter Williams and good ol' Thomas Sowell. I don't know of any Hispanic counterparts in that regard, but I'm sure there's some out there.
On another note, what happened to Chuck Todd to make him act like a real journalist? Someone must have put truth serum in his Kool-Aid.

Villaraigosa may have a point in his twisted mind about the significance of minority mayors and members of congress vs. minority governors. Democrat politics are focused at the extremes: locally and nationally. Anything in between--like state politics--is seen as unimportant. Thus, according to Villaraigosa's thinking, Republicans are only willing to put minorities in "unimportant" elected positions in a far-off state capital, rather than nearby as a mayor would be, or in close contact like an ever-campaigning representative.
tryanmax, That is twisted. LOL! I think it's more likely he just reached for raw numbers to try to keep his point alive. If you think about, the fact there are a good number of conservative minority politicians in office disproves the whole "Republicans are all white men" idea. So really, he had no answer. I think pointing to mayors and Congress was just an attempt to keep the meme alive with the mindless followers, who are very good at ignoring contrary facts so long as they have been given some reason to do so.
Well then, what can I say? Even as a conservative I make a better liberal than the liberals do.

What tends to govern the voting behaviour of voters of all colors is idealogy, so I suspect the increasing prominence of minority Republicans (who have always been around) won't impact voting patterns much.
And how long will it be before, once again, the Democrats start hauling out Uncle Tom, Oreo (black on the outside, white on the inside) and coconut (brown on the outside, white on the inside)? When we have a major Asian-American candidate, they'll haul out banana (yellow on the outside, white on the inside). They simply can't accept that people of color have minds of their own and can think for themselves without the assistance of white limousine liberals. Who are the racists?

I'll tell you what else, even outside of the political arena, I never hear conservatives use racist terms or tell racist jokes, but I hear LOTS of liberal do the same -- right before claiming, "oh, but I'm not racist."

I'm ultimately not surprised, by the way, that this is the tone the Democrats are taking. They've been using the race card now for as long as I can remember and they really need it this time to stir up their base. Desperation breeds desperate measures.

I apologize for being less than clear. Race isn't a component of my argument. For example, Mormons (most of whom are white) vote 74% Republican. Jews (again, mostly white) support Democrats with equal enthusiasm.
I suspect that while the country is more or less evenly divided, many groups tend to fall more on one side of the divide than the other.
Doc, That's the problem. Desperation makes people think that bad things are suddenly acceptable. Add in decades of Democrats simply lying about their opponents, lying about their own record, and lying about their intentions, and you get a volatile mix that breeds some ugly rhetoric. Frankly, I would be very ashamed of my party if I were a Democrat.

I think embarrassment is now the norm in the Democrat Party. Especially after Clint Eastwood's performance art/ speech. (Aside: Could that now be called performance speech?) Clint crosses a lot of demographics and when prominent progressives attacked Clint or derided him, some people, like John Cusack, woke up.

I saw that with Cusack too. He blasted Obama. And he was a major supporter in the past. But keep in mind, the left has really fallen out of love with Obama. We've seen that for a couple years now. He's disappointed them time and again.
Just by following some of the entertainment sites, it's obvious that overnight, bashing on Eastwood (i.e. deriding him as a confused old man) has become totally acceptable. Hollywood is basically just aping the Stalinist purges of the '30s at this point, only with character assassination, not the physical kind.

It's gotten to the point that when i hear the msm bash repubs "whiteness" i have to laugh. ain't too many folks buying what they're selling.
Haven't seen much re. Cusack and his going after the President. I'd love to be proven wrong when I dig deeper later today, but can't imagine it being anything besides President Obama not being lefty enough.

DUQ, I think this is the sort of thing that needs to be pointed out until the idea that the GOP has no minority support is finally too unbelievable for the left to keep pushing it. That's when I think we'll see a big difference -- once race begins to leave the discussion.
Anthony, The Democratic Platform (which I'm talking about tomorrow) absolutely works. It just doesn't do what you think it does.
It is not intended to help the people or make a better country. What it is intended to do is hold onto power. And in that regard, it has cobbled together a coalition which has kept a party which promotes an economic view which less than 40% of the population finds tolerable as an equal national player, giving them the Congress and the White House at times.
That's pretty successful.
Patti, I think that also accounts for the desperation. People aren't buying it anymore. People are fed up with the obviousness of the lie. And conservatives no longer meekly nod their heads. The times they are a changing.
Eric, The money quote from Cusack is that Obama is "just another Ivy League asshole." But you are right, he is upset because Obama isn't far left enough for his tastes.
But that's been a problem for Obama for some time now. The left is very upset at him for not doing the things he promised them.
Yup, just gave the Turley interview a look-see, admittedly skimming as there's only so much of Cusack's Zinn-insipred psuedo-intellectualism I can take. Nice to see a celeb asking for intellectual honesty from the journalism world, but that's about all which made sense from a guy who makes pretend for a living.

T-Rav, That's true. In my lifetime, it was class warfare in the 1970s/1980s, then sexism in the 1990s, with race baiting really coming on late in the 1990s. Now it's all of them. And they won't stop because it works for them and because the MSM won't shun them or call them on it.

Very Interesting points about the GOP and minorities. I think that there are many more minorities making their presence known in the GOP but despite the percentages of the total population there is a "white elephant" in the room that is being ignored if you pardon the pun.
This is the fact that GOP minorities are winning in white majority districts. Alan West and JC Watts are the only black congressman I cawn think of winning in a white majority district. The congressional black caucus dems are from minority heavy or minority gerry mandered districts.
I think the number of minority faces in the GOP is somethin the DNC feels they have to address. Thus minorities and women are branded race traitors, oreos, uncle toms, etc. the women are savaged with mysognistic slurs.
They also have to scream at all times the GOP is white to reinforce the meme in american pop culture becuase if word got out that white republicans will elect a minority where white progs will not..... Well that just can't happen.

Indi, I agree with you. I think the big inconvenient fact the left omits is that the minorities who have won outside of gerrymandered or minority districts are largely in conservative areas. Not all, but most. Deval Patrick being an obvious exception. And it does say something that despite all their talk about being pro-minority that progressives keep voting for the white guy.
And you are correct that if facts like this were better understood, the "convention wisdom" (read: left wing talking point) would fall apart under the weight of the facts and the whole race baiting game would come to an end.

I hate to admit it, but at one point, I considered voting for Obama - or at least the media construct of "Obama" - because it would reduce racial tensions in the country. When the race hucksters went into their spiel, you could always say - hey we elected a black Pres - this can't be a racist country!
Boy, was I ever wrong about that. Obama and the Dems have turned into even worst race baiters than ol Rev Jessie, with 100 times the media support. Who ever thought a racist like Al Sharpton would be hosting a show on cable?
Bev, I totally agree with that -- what we lack in quantity, we make up for in quality! And we do have very high quality minorities. Many of them are solid (or even inspired) intellectuals. They are solid leaders. And they are people anyone should be proud of. I can't say the same for the crooks the Democrats harbor.
K, That's the one thing I hoped Obama would actually fix. When he ran in 2008, he talked about being different and being non-racial. He talked about no longer using that as an excuse. And I hoped he was for real. I hoped his goal was to suck the venom from the left on this issue and help to heal the racial divide in this country.
But then he proved to be utterly incompetent on the issue right away. And shortly thereafter, a very racist pattern began to emerge from his behavior. Finally, he and his team went all in on the race card to stop the Tea Party and now to win this election.
He has been the exact opposite of what I thought could have been his greatest achievement.

Bev, It's not even just them, though they are an excellent example of some of the "winners" on their side. There are several members of the CBC who have committed a variety of things that should be considered crimes. Add in the constant arrests of their vaunted big city mayors, etc.
I'm not saying corruption is a democratic specialty, because both sides do it. But the Democrats let their side hide behind a "racism" defense when they get caught and they never remove them from office.

Andrew - Watch of Sheldon Silver at the DemCon. He is leading the "roll call". He is the head of our State Asssssembly and the most powerful man in NY. AND he was just secretly caught paying off a woman with $100K worth of state tax dollars because his friend Assemblyman Vito Lopez was sexually harassing her. Lopez is the head of the NY Dem Party Chairman. Silver denied it and then couldn't and now has been spending the week before the Convention begging Lopez to resign. I can't wait to tell you ALL of the Dems in the state that have just been arrested in the last few weeks. You will notice that Gov. Cuomo is not holding a prominent roll at the convention...oh, yeah, NY unemployment rate is 9.1%. He doesn't have a lot to crow about.
Bev, Interesting. Sadly, that's far too common in Democratic ranks. And rather than get rid of him, they will try to ignore it and protect him. That's the real difference. The Republicans get rid of the crooks in their ranks, the Democrats don't unless it become absolutely impossible to keep them -- like Weiner.

This is another excellent example of the type of information that Republicans need to get out there to counter this narrative that they are all white males. They aren't, but a good chunk of the public wants to believe that.
