I don't know about you, but I am tired. But here are some other election wins of which you may not be aware. Not only did the Republicans take the majority in the US Senate, but they increased their majority in the House from 233 to 243. And for the first time in 141 years, all the US representatives from Bill Clinton's home state of Arkansas are Republican. And Hillary batted zero in the places where she campaigned on behalf of candidates including Arkansas. That may not bode well for her Presidential aspirations. And to add to the Dem drubbing, Gov. Scott Walker won handily in Wisconsin which means he won three decisive elections for the same position in less than 4 years and is the only Governor to ever survive a recall election.
But the good news doesn't end there. In the state elections, Republicans will now control 67 of the 99* state legislative bodies. That is a change from 59 to 67. But wait there's more. Republicans now will hold the governor’s mansion and both chambers of the state legislature in 24 states. Not only that, but they will hold a supermajority in 16 of those states. The Dems will hold the same in only 7 states. In the other 19 states, Republicans will hold at least one chamber or mansion. In New York and Washington where Republicans held a tenuous control on the state Senate, they now will have the decisive majority.
And to think that in 2008, James Carville declared that the Republican Party was dead. Let's not screw this up...

Bev, Nice! This makes me happy. The key to national elections typically lies in proving yourself at the state level and then slowly moving up. I think Walker's re-election thrusts him into the limelight a good deal. Christie should be there too as he was head of the Republican Governor's Association and they kicked butt... but I think his supporters will flock to Bush.
The Demographic shifts were small, but significant and show what happens when we don't feed the identity politics machine.
Hillary strikes me as "dead woman walking" only she doesn't realize it yet.

The Missouri Legislature is completely controlled by the GOP, however we do have a Democratic governor who seems to be powerless to do anything. Even though Hickenlooper barely held on in Colorado, I guarantee you the Dims there will be real darn careful after this..and I predict that some of those onerous gun bills will now be repealed. Hillary is dead in the water...on a bright note, I think I'm in love with the new Senator Cotton from Arkansas....I really like that guy...well, it's not really love...just high hopes...
Andrew - the only thing disappointing about the montage is that in not one of those photos did Matthews actually spontaneously combust nor did his head explode. Now THAT would have been worth the price of cable. And poor, poor Rachel Maddow even her Phd in whatever did not prepare her for this.
Critch - The beautiful thing in NY is that Marxist Mayor DiBlasio was in charge of taking the Senate back to blue...he failed. Now all of those issues like allowing illegal immigrants to get ID and the NY Dream Act, and minimum wage hikes are just that much harder.
The real news is that the Dems failed miserable in getting people to the polls. NY had the lowest voter turnout since the '70's with 35%.
Oh, and Charlie "I Don't Have To Pay My Taxes" Rangel blamed the whole blood bath on....guess...I dare you...go ahead...there's a nice Kentucky Bourbon in it for the correct answer!

Is the answer "racism"?
All these lower level seats and governorships are a great thing. That means there are going to be a lot of qualified, well-known Republicans to choose from for higher office down the line. A cautionary tale from Nebraska's 2nd district, however. Seven-time incumbent Lee Terry lost his House seat even as Republican candidates for state legislature and governor trounced their opponents in the same district. Popular analysis holds that Terry laid too low. That's my 2¢.
I'd vote racism too. It's always racism.
One other thing I want to share: The local paper ran a (largely worthless) section last Sunday introducing the candidates, complete with pictures. I couldn't help noting how OLD most of the Dems looked beside their younger opponents. Not that I think many young folks are reading the paper, but there are plenty of other opportunities to see the candidates' faces side-by-side. Nationally, most of the prominent Dems other than the president are pretty grey and wrinkly, while the big GOPers are far younger. Superficial as it is, that sort of thing has an impact.
I'm gonna swing a different direction and guess that Rangel said the problem was not enough racism, as in, "Americans need to step up and finally have a serious talk about race, because the conversation we've been having for the last half-century, though vigorous, has failed to reach the conclusion that it's all whitey's fault and he must pay."
BING! BING!! BING!! WE HAVE TWO WINNAHS, FOLKS!! But for fairness sake, Kit was first, but then Andrew is our leader, so...I am afraid to make a decision. So that being said - you both winners to me! And, the bourbon will be in your respective mailboxes shortly...stand outside and wait...trust me, it will be there sometime soon...

This was Charlie's statement the day before the election -
"We have to win. We have to be able to send a national message with Andrew Cuomo. And the thing is: Everything we believe in — everything we believe in — they hate. They don't disagree — they hate! They think if you didn't come from Europe 30 years ago, you didn't even make it. Some of them believe that slavery isn't over and they and think they won the Civil War!"
Personally, I don't know to what timeline he is referring with whole "didn't come from Europe 30 years ago" crack, but hey, that just Charlie being Charlie. Oh, but wait...the next day:
"We all know who they are and where they're from. So maybe 'slavery' was the wrong word, but racial superiority, unfortunately, is the disease that a handful of people have, and they were holding back the Republican majority in the House. Maybe now that Republican leadership doesn’t need them, they can go along with people who want to improve the quality of life for all Americans and not those who just look like them."
Well, at least he narrowed in down to "a handful"...that's something right? And they wonder why the Dems are in such trouble right now. How on earth do statements like this win over rivals?
And for being technically right, Charlie does like constantly talking about race, so as a consolation prize for thinking outside the box, Tryanmax wins the a soda...a Bloomberg-hating-more-than-16oz soda of his choice...if he is willing to go and buy it himself and send the receipt to "The Management" for reimbursement within 24 hours of purchase...;-)
So, lemme get this straight, Rangel's problem is with all those people who immigrated from Europe to the South since 1984? I guess that takes all of us off the hook.
But hey, the good news is that DC legalized casual marijuana use! I can't wait for all those young, stoned House and Senate aides to get to work...later, dude!

Yes, Tryanmax, since part of my family came here about 250 years ago and the other part came over in the early 20th Century, Charlie Rangel should love me...as long as he doesn't put 2 and 2 together and realize that some were Southern plantation owners...but that was well over 30 years ago. I would really hate for Charlie Rangel to not like me...it would make me cry.

Almost at my job seemed to care one way or the other about the midterms with the exception of a coworker who asked me what I thought about MD's new governor. I told him I honestly didn't know much about the guy and only learned that he had a shot a winning Sunday. My coworker told me the guy was promising to slash Maryland's taxes and expressed contempt for the infamous (in MD) Rain Tax.

It was his party that fought to keep slavery and it was his party that formed the KKK, and Bull Connor was in his party, and Robert Byrd, and most of his party voted against the Civil Rights Act.
Today Rangel's party opposes school choice for African-Americans, and his party thinks that they are too stupid to have voter ID, and his party thinks they are too stupid to earn a college education without cheating, and his party attacks anyone of color who aren't in his party, and his party's programs have hurt people of color more than any other race, etc., etc..
Voters are sick n' tired of racists like Rangel playing the race card all the time and projecting their racism onto republicans.
Same with the idiotic "war on women" crap.
But worse than even that, more and more voters are getting hit in the wallet and no amount of lying about how great the economy is, or how great Obamacare is is gonna convince voters now that they have seen and felt the actual results.
If the democrats wanna win back Congress they gotta make some serious changes to their platform.
However, most of the big money is coming from far left donors so it will be entertaining to see the upcoming democrat uncivil war between themselves.
In the meantime I expect we will see more meltdowns, lol.
Mike Bost in Illinois has won a seat not held by the GOP in 70s years. They have a Republican governor..friends of mine over there tell me that there is a definite wave against the Dems right now.
