Happy 2016 (Almost)

It's the last day of the 2015 and the great thing about any New Year is that it is a "reset button". All of the drama, craziness, and hysteria can just be left behind and hope is restored with the promise of a new year. I would write a review of 2015, but there is no one better at this than one of my favorite humorists, Dave Barry. Get ready to double over in laughter, so don't read this while operating heavy machinery. Enjoy.

"Dave Barry's 2015 Year In Review"

We won't know how 2016 plays out, but there is a least one thing you need to know right now and it's really serious problem that will only resolve itself at the end of next year. I am putting this issue on the table because, as they say, to be forewarned is to be forearmed, right? So take a deep breath and here it is...typing "2016" is really hard! That "6" is not conveniently placed on the Querty keyboard! But take it slowly and with diligence and lots of practice, it will get easier. I promise!

On a serious note, I would like to thank Andrew, Kit, and all the great people here at CommentaramaPolitics. Your continued insights, humor, and real discussion is always inspiring. Now let's get through this election cycle without going completely insane! Thank you and let 2016 games begin for real...

I like this bit by Dave Barry:

------------------------------
Are we saying that 2015 was the worst year ever? Are we saying it was worse than, for example, 1347, the year when the Bubonic Plague killed a large part of humanity?

Yes, we are saying that. Because at least the remainder of humanity was not exposed to a solid week in which the news media focused intensively on the question of whether a leading candidate for president of the United States had, or had not, made an explicit reference to a prominent female TV journalist’s biological lady cycle.

At the risk of republishing the entire article, here is my favorite part:

...troubling news from Baltimore, where the death of an African-American man in police custody touches off a conversation on race that lasts several days, resulting in 250 arrests and extensive property damage. The Rev. Al Sharpton rushes to the scene but is unable to prevent things from eventually calming down.

Bev, thanks for the keyboard warning. Fortunately for me, I never learned how to touch-type the top line. Whenever I need to type numbers, I just reach for the 10-key pad.

Tryanmax...oops, I forgot about the number pad! We are saved!!

Bev, I will keep writing 2015 involuntarily until about June is my guess!

On Barry, I love Barry. He's really funny.

On 2016, I'm looking forward to a fantastic year. Think of all the cool stuff we're going to get to see this year -- new inventions, new films, new books, new friends, and new adventures! Booyah! :D

Just to let ya'll know...the food is great in 2016 AND no calories! They have all stayed in 2015!

BevfromNYC said...

Oops, I was wrong...the calories did make it into 2016 after all. Sorry for the misinformation. :-(

I might have to start watching Homeland:

Kit - I have friends who are addicted to Homeland. I haven't watched it yet. Let me know what you think.

On episode 2.

Thoughts so far: Claire Danes and Morena Baccarin are easy on the eyes.

BTW, Folks, don't forget to check out the 1996 retrospective at the film site!

Ok... had to pass on this quote.

"They say that dog is man's best friend, but even my worst enemy won't look me square in the eye while pooping on my carpet."
