All I want for Christmas is a Black Widow Recurve Bow, some RMS Gear wood arrows, a new bottle of Glen Fiddich Scotch, and some time off.....Merry Christmas everyone, we live in the best country in the world.

I already got my holiday haul, namely this, this, and these.

I have no more room left. :-)

Merry Christmas and Happy (somewhat belated) Chanukah! (Yes, I use that spelling.)

We affiliated with Warner Bros. appreciate your snagging those first two, Scott, and please be sure to check out any of the foreign subtitles, even if you don't speak the language(s). Busted our asses on those for months, and it would me smile.

Merry Christmas, Commentarama!

Eric -

I would've preferred new 4K transfers on the Kubrick titles along with the 2001 documentary that Douglas Trumbull wanted to do a few years ago...

...but I will be sure to check out the subtitles. :-)

Eric,

Just curious, is Ben-Hur now owned by Warner Bros? I know MGM made it but I also know Warner bought a bunch of MGM's old titles.

Kit -

I believe WB owns most of MGM's titles from before a certain year, 1980-something. I don't know the specifics.

I think Ben-Hur's in the WB domain now, Kit, but not sure. So many catalog titles getting blu-ray treatments (or wait a couple years for the same title's super-duper-double-deluxe special anniversary edition) these days, I lose track. Doesn't help my focus is more in the TV properties, too. I'll check when back in the office next week to confirm.

A little late, (what can I say? I'm a busy guy on December 25th!), but given the anniversary, here's a post I posted on another site:

On this day, 100 years ago, in the midst of the darkness of one of the most terrible wars man has ever known, a brief glimmer of light shined through: German and British soldiers briefly put aside their weapons to observe a truce across the trenches of World War I , and celebrate Christmas Day together.

Here is a documentary about the event.

And here's an ad made by British supermarket chain Sainsbury commemorating the event.

Well, my wife of 35 years surprised me again yesterday with one of her gifts to me. I'm pretty perceptive at guessing what people are going to get me but she totally surprised me. I had a put a little money down on a new Ruger 1911 commander at my gun store....she was down there to get me a gift card, and the manager mentioned the pistol, so she got it out of layaway and gave it me...total shock..so us oldsters can still surprise each other. Christmas Mass was great. I took as guest a woman from Thailand and her husband. After Mass at supper she told me about being born in Vientiane, Laos and her family having to flee the Pathet Lao in the late 50s.She was raised in Thailand and came to this country on a work visa in the late 70s. She went to a culinary school and has worked at hospitals mostly in the kitchens but now she owns her own business here in our town. Isn't this the greatest country in the world? A continued Merry Christmas to all of ya'll.

Rustbelt, have you-- sorry, yinz ever seen Billy Cardell's "Halftime" comedy special (originally on Comedy Central, I think, but currently on Netflix streaming)? Recorded in his 'burgh hometahn, and while he slips in and aht of his accent throughout, the first minute is priceless, n'at.
