I Wish I'd Said This...

Once again I am in the weeds with work-related activities, but I did have just enough time today to read one thing. An article of a 3-day interview with Camille Paglia by Dave Daley at Salon. Now, I don't always agree with Ms Paglia, but this particular article expresses exactly the way I think about all the subjects she hits. So, because of lack of time and the brain-stifling heat of late July, I thought I would just share it with you...

Camille Paglia takes on Jon Stewart, Trump, Sanders: “Liberals think of themselves as very open-minded, but that’s simply not true!”

I particularly like the comments section as it just proves her main point expressed in the title of article. I hope you enjoy it, but if you don't, you are always free to change the subject. I'm going to get some sleep for my next big push tomorrow.

Part 1 is equally provocative: Camille Paglia: How Bill Clinton is like Bill Cosby

Paglia is definitely provocative and I often agree with her. Not always, but often. She's a smart woman.

Calling Paglia "provocative" is like saying "Bill CLinton occasionally enjoys the company of women." It's a bit of an understatement.

I agree and disagree actually. I agree that she is provocative. But I also think the things she says aren't that provocative. They only seem that way because they target the sacred cows of hyper-sensitive types. Basically, she pokes the crazies with a bit of reality.

So in an objective sense, she's not really very provocative.

For the record, I meant provocative in the sense that she challenges leftist convention--which is in essence provocation. Convention is provocation to the provocateur.

Part 3, BTW, is a bit more bland, but for the sake of completeness: Ted Cruz gives me the willies

Interestingly, she thinks Hillary will withdraw for faked "health reason" before the primaries begin. I agree with that.

Yes, she is a provocateur because she says things no one wants to admit are sensible and mature.

And I agrees with her about Bill Clinton and Bill Cosby. Really, how different are they? It is just a matter of opinion that separates them. Bill Clinton is as much a sexual predator as Bill Cosby allegedly is. Only the Pres. held the party line....Cosby spoke against the prevailing liberal line.

But neither of them killed a lion!!!

Bev, The lion thing is interesting. The lesson is pretty simple: if you're going to kill something... don't brag about it, and don't kill an animal people consider a pet.

It will be interesting to see too if the dentist ends up charged with a crime, which I think is likely.

Fourth Planned Parenthood video out. Nothing about it at the front pages of the websites of CNN, CBS, or NBC. You have to scroll down to the bottom to see under "Hot Topics" the item "Planned Parenthood" on ABC and even there you have nothing on the new video.

They could not defend it so they are ignoring it. Even though the videos reveal (1) possible violations of the law with partial-birth abortions and (2) possible (illegal) disregard for their patients' (Women) health by carrying out abortions in ways to ensure the organs remains viable.

I've seen Paglia's name pop up now and again. Very interesting read. I love her advice about dealing with hecklers. I can see why so many small mind liberals hate her and why so many conservatives love her.

That being said, I think she is wildly overestimating the importance of atheism in the US. I'd say a bigger issue (problem is probably the wrong word) is the fact that God is so universally accepted that people claim to be Christians just because it is the thing to do, not because they actually believe. Such people do not let any of his teachings impact how they live their lives ('I sell crack for a living to schoolkids, but I am also a man of faith!').

I also think her dismissal of modern pop culture and blaming it being inadequate for young people being politically active (not something I noticed) rather than listening to music or what have you sounds perilously close to Abraham Simpson's famous exchange with Homer (read: old person dismissing young pop culture).

----------------
Abe: I used to be `with it.' But then they changed what `it' was. Now
what I'm `with' isn't `it' and what's `it' seems weird and scary
to me. It'll happen to you.

Homer: No way, man. We're gonna keep on rockin' forever!

I agree with a lot of what Paglia had to say, but she still proves to be a Democratic lost cause. She remains steadfastly loyal to a party that has delivered much of what she feared from Republicans--and says as much!

And there's that bit about presidents who project "class and dignity." Spare me! The left's definition of "class" is based on one criterion: not Republican. These are the people who think class is a crease in the front of the slacks. It's always below the waist with these people. What's up with that?

Bev,

Bill Clinton was (is?, I dunno) an aggressive, crude philanderer. Cosby is a rapist. Neither is a model citizen, but for my money Cosby is far worse.

Also, I don't think Cosby's politics hurt him. Quite the contrary. Its telling that the accusations against him went without major coverage/investigation fro many years up until another comedian forced the issue. Neither side had much of an interest in taking him down because he was a popular figure who sometimes said things each side liked.

Anthony and tryanmax, Let me clarify that while I agree with a lot of the common sense stuff Paglia embraces, I don't subscribe to her political views. She is a solid Democrat who is, in my opinion, trapped in a bit of a nostalgia bubble. She is still fighting old battles and like so many others in the political talker class has little grasp on what the public at large cares about.

I agree too with Anthony about her position on atheism, which I think is irrelevant in America.

I also agree with Anthony's take on Christians. Far too few Christians actually observe the views of Jesus... if they even know them. That would include both those who think that calling themselves Christian makes it so no matter how they act and the hard-core types who have redefined Jesus to fit their own views. A lot of what these people are pushing flies in the face of everything Christ said.

BTW, On culture, I think the people who fret over the culture are picking the wrong targets. This is too long of a discussion for a comment, but they seem to pick at the worse examples of badness and then assume that this is representative. The truth is rather different. But I guess it doesn't sell books or whatever to say, "Things are mostly find, except for a few jerks at the edges."

I do like her takedown of modern quasi-Victorian sex-phobic feminism.

Btw, the court just issued a stay for the release of any further videos for right now in a very narrow opinion that PP does not really like very much.

Seriously, this just looks worse and worse for PP in the "selling baby parts to the highest bidder and calling it 'shipping expenses'" kind of way. They can't continue to shoot the messenger without addressing this issue of parts-selling for profit/shipping. Or at least be honest enough to admit it and post it on their website as their common practice.

Btw, it seems that the same people who have all sorts of problems with genetically modified edibles, have no problem with using pre-born baby parts to further genetically modify humans.

But more pathetic and more disturbed are the ones calling for the death of a lion killeryet couldn't care less about using/selling pre-born baby parts for medical research. I believe I have posted this before, but it still annoys me.

Bev,

That's because a lion is a living thing while an unborn child is just a "pile of goop" (with viable organs but that's irrelevant unless we're selling them).

Ok, I admit it. I don't know who this Paglia is but that's ok. Her interview was interesting. I only read the first 2 days as Salon has sooooo many scripts it kept freezing up my work computer. Probably infected my computer with the PC virus.

Her point about Clinton and Cosby being similar is that they both use their position to have power over women. Cosby liked his quiet and dead and Clinton liked his kicking and screaming but both are a forms of rape. Aggressive or "real rape" or "rape rape" has little to do with sex or pleasure and everything to do with power. This is why date rape is so complicated. Sometimes it is about power like when she is passed out and sometimes it is about pleasure in the moment of decreased inhibitions followed by delayed regret.

There was a Columbia college student who walked around with a mattress? Was she a sex worker? Can that be written off as a work expense?

The pro-life hashtag #AnotherBoy is trending on twitter.

The phrase comes from Dr. Ginde's comment in the recent Planned Parenthood video, when dissecting an aborted fetus, "It's a boy."

As such, I should warn you, even the tweets contain disturbing content.
