Open Thread

I apologize for once again shirking my duties at CommentaramaPolitics. I am going through another e-meltdown again. Good news is that Verizon finally has finally restored my internet service after 2 weeks, then Apple/Itunes decided to destroy my Ipad with a new 9.0.1 ugrade". Then after I got that all sorted out, I wanted to cancel the auto-pay on an App and two hours later and four "password" changes, I finally got in. Why do I feel that I achieved some kind of victory against "the Man"? It used to be so much easier when all we had to do is take a book back to the library. I am beginning to take all of these issues personally as a misogynist, micro-aggression.

Anyway, enough about my e-problems...there's so much more happening in the world. Any clue what's happening in Syria? I hear Putin has started regular bombing raids? Or that Trans-Pacific trade agreement? Did you hear about the American Airlines pilot who died mid-flight? Frankly, I don't care because I finally defeated Itunes...for now.

The floor is open

Trans-Pacific trade agreement?? You mean the trannies and the pacifists are making a trade agreement?? Diabolical! Somehow, there's a sheep in wolf's clothing joke there.

Putin is just trying to compensate for having a small cosack. And he thinks that humiliating Obama will make him seem like a "big" man on the world stage. But humiliating Obama is too easy... it's like stealing borscht from a baby.

AndrewPrice said...

Ow, my brain.

AndrewPrice said...

You know what? I just realized that the "trans" in Trans-Pacific does not mean "trannie." That's a relief. This was not my fault however. They should have called it something less confounding like the Pacific Rim Job Bill.

AndrewPrice said...

It's me again. Whoops. Forget I said that. Apparently, there's some problem with that name too. Why don't we just call it the Obama Pacific American Concord or ASSPAC for short.

tryanmax said...

The trannies aren't involved? I guess that means no LeGo BoaTs

BevfromNYC said...

Oh, dear, we seem to have veered off. No, no trannies or pacifists involved in the TPP. Well, maybe there are a few pacifists - Obama and Kerry. But definitely no trannies that are apparent. Sorry, I should have made that clear from the beginning.

I blame Obama Bev for getting us off track! This was all part of his plan to keep us from realizing that killer robots are sneaking across the BORDER to learn MEXICAN while on welfare as 112% of the population is forced to accept commie-only and trannie-only bathrooms. Yep.

BTW, Drudge has three interesting headlines today meant to misinform you (each of which I guarantee you will be pounded into the fringe by talk radio):

ARABIC FASTEST-GROWING LANGUAGE IN USA...
Record 63.2 million non-English speaking residents...
Feds deport fewest immigrants in decade...

Sounds like the end of America, doesn't it? Well, it's not true. All three articles are from fringe "news" sources like Breitbart. And they are packed with misleading statistics. Indeed, I decided to look into this. Here is what I found...

(1) The Arabic thing is a Brietbart person's take on a report created by a fringe-right anti-immigration "think tank." The article mixes all kind of data to give a massively false/scare monger impression of the report, but even the report is patently false. They claim that "according to Census data" 63 million Americans speak a language other than English at home and the biggest growing group in that is Arabic.

But the Census data doesn't say that. First, it's not "speak a language other than English at home." It is only, do you speak another language... like how my mother also speaks German. Half of those people also claim to speak English "very well." Secondly, it's not 63 million, it's 27 million (8% of the population, not 21% as claimed).

As for Arabic, it is listed as the fastest growing, but (1) the 29% growth is over 4 years, so it's closer to 7% in reality unless you live in four-year increments, and (2) it's from the very low base of 1.1 million... not even a third of one percent.

(2) Yes, deportations were down this year. As they were last year, but that's from a record number two years ago. What's more, Obama has already deported 2.4 million. Bush only deported 1.1 in his eight years.

A. I hate the killer robots. But Drudge and "InfoWars" is keeping track, so I feel safer...

B. Yes, one should always take view postings on Drudge with skepticism especially when it comes from Breitbart (sadly) and other partisan sites. And I still am sad that at what the inheritors of Andrew Breitbart's website have done. He probably would have disassociated himself from it...

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, At least someone is watching for us! ;-)

It is sad. I really doubt Breitbart would have let his site turn into what it has. In terms of Drudge, I've learned to trust nothing he posts. Sadly, his headlines get repeated as gospel by low-information types in talk radio land.

Andrew....I heard somewhere (not sure where on the nets) that Obama's deportations counted those turned away at the borders, where Bush's were those that were actually living in the States and were sent back. If true, another misleading statistic to make Obama look 'better than Bush' on volatile issues.

Oh, and I love that some folks in Oregon are telling the President that they don't want him coming there and agitating the community even more. If in fact true.

Bob, Both Bush and Obama did it both ways. Bush began by not counting those caught and turned around at the border, but then started counting them halfway through his presidency. Obama continued counting that way until halfway through his presidency and then went back to not counting those people. So they both did it both ways about half way for each administration.

Speaking of the border, they caught more South and Central Americans this year than Mexicans for the first time. That is further support for the idea that Mexico is running out of migrants.

The Oregon thing is true. :)

Well, the left-wingers are gearing up again for a run at gun control. Such morons...Biden is hinting that he might run and bring Fake-a-hontas Warren with him....I really believe that Obama will put a torpedo in Hillary. Obama and the Left-wingers can control Biden..The GOP is still flailing around, but there's always hope. It turns out that the little creep in Oregons mom knew he had mental issues and guns and didn't alert anyone...again, we are in a mental health crisis...and there's no easy solution. I want to thank everyone involved in this blog. I'm not a particularly creative person, this blog gives me a chance to talk to people who understand critical thinking. The liberals have shut up again about His Holiness Pope Francis, they figured out that he's Catholic.

AndrewPrice said...

Critch, You're welcome. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!

"they figured out he's Catholic" LOL LOL! Bravo! :D

I think gun control is DOA at this point in America. For one thing, reasonable people know it wasn't the gun that did it... it was the crazy guy holding the gun. So gun control is only a red herring. And even then, it doesn't make sense to take guns from good people in the name of stopping people who won't follow the law in any event.

Another thing I think the left misses is that too many women and blacks
see guns as important to their self-defense. They won't give those up. So the whole gun control thing is only be pushed by a sliver of the left, and they're pushing arguments that go against the self-interest of a majority of the public in a way that makes people feel unsafe. So it's a nonstarter.

tryanmax said...

On gun control, the left is starting to lose their own ranks. I've seen at least a dozen articles in the last week equating gun control with disarming blacks. There are also comparisons between gun arrests and drug arrests in terms of disparate impact.

Critch - I 2nd that LOL! The libs are mad again because some Vatican priest came out as gay and wanted to introduce his live-in lover to everyone. He was instead dismissed from his cushy post at the Vatican and reassigned pending most likely his defrocking. The Libs are claiming homophobia, but they forget that the Vatican take that vow of celibacy very seriously.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I'm seeing that kind of analysis too lately.

Bev, There is a fascinating admission in that fight. The left has claimed that being gay is about BEING gay, not about engaging in gay conduct. In other words, they claimed that their concern is discrimination against people for being gay... they were not looking for a license to engage in gay sex.

Well, the Vatican called their bluff. Here the Church said that being gay is fine, but engaging in gay sex is not. Now the left is whining that it's anti-gay to make them stay abstinent... an argument no one would ever accept as credible if argued by a heterosexual.

What this exposes is that they were after a license to engage in gay sex without consequence the entire time rather than trying to stop discrimination based on their status.

Sounds the both the shooter and his mom were/are high functioning autistics (she described her son as being prone to self injury when he was a teen) who were gun enthusiasts (a fact his vocal, gun hating absentee father was apparently unaware of).

Thanks so much for the Vatican priest news, Bev. This Catholic hasn't smiled so widely since Pope Francis decided to talk about something/anything else besides "global climate change."

Anthony said...

Regarding gun control, banning anything popular and widely available is utterly pointless. Most of the public realizes that. Add in the fact that the Supreme Court is striking down local gun control laws/bans and its extremely unlikely any gun control will come from the latest or any future shooting.

In India a mob of Hindus beat a man to death because they heard a rumor he ate beef. I can never, ever go to there. They probably regard me as one of history's greatest monsters.

AndrewPrice said...

You and me both, Anthony! Steak is awwwwwsome! :)

I think there is definitely a sense in the public that nothing will change with guns, so the issue has defused as a result of that too.

Eric, Despite the headlines, he really didn't give the left anything they wanted. Even his environmental stuff was all soft and nebulous... "Be good!"

Let me tell you about a dream I had last night. I could hear my border collie barking and I stepped outside, it was Christmastime, all the houses on my block were lit up like the Griswold's place in Christmas Vacation. There was snow on the ground and the stars were incredibly bright, like high powered LEDs, I could make out every constellation and planet, even Pluto (OK, I'm lying there). But I was just marveling at how bright it was.. and happy, but scary also. Itw as very vivid and memorable for some reason...

BevfromNYC said...

Cool dream! I wonder what it means?

Critch said...

I wonder if dreams mean anything or they're just synapses firing off randomly....

AndrewPrice said...

Critch and Bev, The only thing I've ever heard that made a ton of sense to me was from a heart doctor who said that nightmares are a warning signal from your body that there is a medical problem that needs to be addressed. He didn't think the specifics mattered, just the tone.
