By the President of the United States of America
A Proclamation
It has pleased Almighty God to prolong our national life another year, defending us with His guardian care against unfriendly designs from abroad and vouchsafing to us in His mercy many and signal victories over the enemy, who is of our own household. It has also pleased our Heavenly Father to favor as well our citizens in their homes as our soldiers in their camps and our sailors on the rivers and seas with unusual health. He has largely augmented our free population by emancipation and by immigration, while He has opened to us new sources of wealth and has crowned the labor of our workingmen in every department of industry with abundant rewards. Moreover, He has been pleased to animate and inspire our minds and hearts with fortitude, courage, and resolution sufficient for the great trial of civil war into which we have been brought by our adherence as a nation to the cause of freedom and humanity, and to afford to us reasonable hopes of an ultimate and happy deliverance from all our dangers and afflictions:
Now, therefore, I, Abraham Lincoln, President of the United States, do hereby appoint and set apart the last Thursday in November next as a day which I desire to be observed by all my fellow-citizens, wherever they may then be, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, the beneficent Creator and Ruler of the Universe. And I do further recommend to my fellow-citizens aforesaid that on that occasion they do reverently humble themselves in the dust and from thence offer up penitent and fervent prayers and supplications to the Great Disposer of Events for a return of the inestimable blessings of peace, union, and harmony throughout the land which it has pleased Him to assign as a dwelling place for ourselves and for our posterity throughout all generations.
In testimony whereof I have hereunto set my hand and caused the seal of the United States to be affixed.
Done at the city of Washington, this 20th day of October, A.D. 1864, and of the Independence of the United States the eighty-ninth.
ABRAHAM LINCOLN.

WILLIAM H. SEWARD,
Secretary of State .

Happy Thanksgiving Day everybody! Try not to get into politics with the family too much today. Of course, if you have any liberal family members (and who of us don't) good luck. If I've seen one, I've seen a hundred articles on liberal sites about "How to win political arguments with your family this holiday season." Seriously, those guys are sick. Anyway, Gobble, Gobble, everyone!
Nah nah na-nah nah!
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! :) Enjoy this time with your friends and family. Don't worry about the world or the world of politics... it will still be there when you get back. Just enjoy the things that are truly important in life.
Happy Thanksgiving Everyone..after dinner myself and my grand-kids are going to watch A Charlie Brown Thanksgiving...
I don't put my faith in polls, but that seems to be the thing Trump supporters have been pointing too. So I think it's relevant to point out that he's lost 12% points in the five day rolling average (meaning it's a much bigger loss) after (1) saying he wants to register Muslims, (2) claiming he saw thousands of Muslims cheering 9/11, and (3) mocking a disabled reporter for his disability.
It sounds like Trump may have finally worn out his welcome with his supporters... who maxed out exactly at the level of support of the "anybody but Romney" coalition.
In other news, we have some shooter in town. This may or may not have something to do with Planned Parenthood... or there's a bank right there he may have tried to rob. Not sure yet.
From the sound of it, three cops are wounded. I wish them the best.
The anti-abortion shooter (who I hope gets bunked with a guy nicknamed Ramrod) didn't do enough damage to change anyone's mind on anything so if nobody says anything stupid, it won't make the issue any bigger than it is (which is admittedly plenty big).
As for Trump, I don't think his fans are bothered by his insults. He implied that a female reporter was on her period because she asked him tough questions. People who stuck with him after that aren't people who worry much about decency, they are looking for a talk radio style bomb thrower.
One amusing story is how some 13 year old black conservative has abandoned the Republican party over that shooting in Chicago. I agree that criticism of police excesses isn't fashionable in Republican or conservative circles (outside of libertarians), but its worth noting Chicago is a Democrat run city and no Republicans were involved in that particular mess.
I also think its amusing how much exposure this kid has got. Whenever I see a kid that obsessed with politics, I wonder about the level of behind the scenes parental involvement. Older teenagers and young adults becoming strongly political is kind of par for the course, but for a kid that young to be so preoccupied by politics is unusual.

The 13-year-old Internet phenom who gained national attention criticizing President Barack Obama and briefly was a part of the Ted Cruz campaign is renouncing conservatism, saying he's looking to be a voice unbound by party ideology.
CJ Pearson told CNN on Friday that concerns about the Republican Party's viewpoints on racial and gender disparity as well as youth issues convinced him he could no longer be a mouthpiece for conservatism.
"I was tired of being a champion of a party that turned a blind eye to racial discrimination. Tired of being a champion of any cause that denies equal rights to every American. Tired of being a champion of a party that doesn't care about the issues important to young people," Pearson wrote in an email.

Hear hear, Anthony. I feel exactly the same way about politically active kids who aren't old enough to even vote. It's just weird. And as you said, how knowledgable can he be if he lays events in Chicago at Republicans' feet?
Keep this in mind guys... the left has been blaming the GOP for "our failing education system" for decades even though there isn't a single conservative anywhere in the education system since the 1940's. So blaming the GOP for everything that is bad in Chicago is easy for them.
In terms of the kid, I concur. Kids don't have anywhere near enough knowledge to be politically active at that age. They are just mouthpieces for their parents.
Anthony, I don't think the abortion shooter changes anything. The left is all giddy that they can FINALLY point to someone who claims to have acted because he hates abortion (even though it sounds like he was a crazed drug addict). Woo hoo! We're finally right!! Let's ban guns now!!
//crickets
Planned Parenthood in particular is super psyched because they can now pretend to be victims of their own scandal.
The public, I doubt will care about the politics. They are just depressed that assholes like this exist and that good people need to die because of creatures like this.
