Yeah, March 15 hasn't been too kind to political leaders and movements over the millennia. Why should today be any different. Just like the mighty Julius Caesar, today may be the day that the Republican Party gets stabbed in the back and through the heart by our own...or not. But again, while we wait for the results, let see where it stands with delegates won as of today and what is up for tomorrow.
REPUBLICAN PRIMARIES 3/15/2016
DELEGATES Won
Ted Cruz 370
John Kasich 63
Marco Rubio 163
Donald Trump 460
Carson 8
Bush 4
Uncommitted 6
Need 1,237 to clinch nomination
STATE DELEGATES
Florida (WTA) 99
Illinois (P) 69
Missouri (WTA) 52
North Carolina (P) 72
Ohio (WTA) 66
N.Mariana Isle (WTA) 9
WTA - Winner take all
P - Proportional
DEMOCRATIC PRIMARIES 3/15/2016
DELEGATES Won
Hillary Clinton 766/461* (1227)
Bernie Sanders 551/55* (706)
Need 2,383 to clinch nomination
*superdelegates
STATE DELEGATES
Florida 246
Illinois 182
Missouri 84
North Carolina 121
Ohio 159
As far as the Republican ticket goes, it's not over until it's over. No one is anywhere near the 1,237 yet, not even Trump. As far as I see, it is still open and could lead to an contested Convention vote. But there are still major states to weigh in - California and New York. And beyond all comprehension, it looks like New York will go for Trump.
The Democrat ticket is much more clear. Unless something drastic happens, Clinton will be the candidate they will run. She has the super delegates to put her over the top and Sander's supporters have decided to go militant and that can only help Trump.
Let's discuss while we're waiting.

I'm kind of unplugging from politics for a bit.
California is a lock for Trump. By June it will be Trump or Cruz and Trump will take the Golden State and its 172 delegates (winner-take-all state). New Jersey's 51 delegates are also winner-take-all and Trump is way ahead of Cruz there. New York's 95 delegates are awarded proportionally.
I bet the Republican party wishes it had (wildly antidemocratic) superdelegates right about now :) . Bernie is more charismatic than Clinton (which ain't saying much) but bland pander bear Clinton ('Tell me what you are thinking and I'll tell you my position') is still the party's best hope in the general election. Its a bright hope since Clinton's favorite Republican is on the verge of winning the nomination.
Ben Carson's Trump endorsement much like Ben Carson's campaign, is a strange and hilarious thing. 'He's not my favorite candidate, but he is most likely to win and thus my best chance at a job!'.

Ben Carson offered his most lukewarm endorsement of Donald Trump yet, saying that if the GOP frontrunner wasn't a good president "we're only looking at four years." Then, to top it off, Carson admitted he would have preferred another candidate.
The retired neurosurgeon offered the strange reassurance on Monday during an interview with Steve Malzberg of Newsmax TV. Carson also said he would serve in an "advisory capacity" in a potential Trump administration

And of course Chris Cristie skipped a cop's funeral so he could sit at a Trump campaign event and listen to Trump's awesomeness.

Gov. Chris Christie (R) missed a New Jersey state trooper’s funeral on Monday because he was campaigning out-of-state with GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, a new report says.
Christie appeared with Trump in Hickory, N.C., rather than attending the ceremony in Cinnaminson, N.J., according to NJ.com.
------------
Christie loves Trump more than cops or his state or his job, but he has a rival for Trump's affections. Palin's husband was injured in a snowmobile accident and she initially stated she was going to cancel to be with her husband, but ultimately she decided that Trump needed her more. Still not as impressive as what Christie did but Palin at this stage lacks a career to sacrifice on the alter of Trump. I'm sure if she could, she would.

"Todd Palin was in a bad snow machine accident last night and is currently hospitalized," Trump's presidential campaign said in a statement.
"Governor Palin is returning to Alaska to be with her husband and looks forward to being back on the campaign trail soon. Mr. Trump’s thoughts and prayers are with the Palin family at this time."
UPDATE: Palin made an appearance at the Trump rally in Tampa after all, surprising just about everyone.
This just in...Trump wins North Marianas Island Caucus - 9 delegates.
Kit - I understand the need to unplug, but please don't do it for too long. We need you...but no pressure.
LL - thanks for depressing news from California. Doesn't surprise me though. I'm not sure that Christie helps Trump one whit in NJ. But then I thought Rubio would have locked up Florida.
Anthony, It's like Trump's some Svengali who hypnotizes these people, isn't it? "Look into my hair... you are getting sleepy... you will endorse my candidacy..."
Bev, I hate to say it, but I'm pretty sure this race is long over. We're just waiting for the dead to finally fall down.
Today will tell us for sure though. Then we can all start drinking...
"...Then we can all start drinking... "
Hmmmmm, I wasn't aware there was a specific date calendared. I started that already only to avoid doing real damage to myself with all of the sharp pointy objects in my kitchen. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
so while we are waiting, I thought it was interesting that Clinton shot herself in the foot yesterday by proclaiming how well she did in our intervention in Libya...not a single American was killed in the process. Ummm, except...well, yeah.
The hits just keep coming from Mrs. Clinton....
Hillary has never beaten anyone remotely competent. That is no accident.
Anthony - Funny you should say that...I was thinking the same thing. Why else would Trump be getting $2billion worth of free publicity?
Sounds like some of us need a break from politics.
Alien Prietess: "One cannot escape one's own destiny..."
Crow: "But one can delay it indefinitely and have a beer."
(Andrew, I blame your drinking comment for putting that quote in my head.)
Well, it IS the Ides of March. So, is case anyone's ever wondered what Antiquity's Mr Big did other than be Shakespeare's MacGuffin, a stabbing dummy, or namesake of a lousy salad dressing, I offer you...
Pharsalus and Alesia! (Warning: might be a little NSFW)
Rustbelt- those videos are really cool. I will watch them all the way through later. It is wonderful what can be created with modern technology. Complete battles in detail. Amazing!
Update: So Trump won Florida and Rubio has dropped out.
Kasich won Ohio about 43/34.
Andrew,
Nope, Rubio won Florida. In fact he has already swept every state tonight. Fox News is saying he is on course to winning the nomination!
Also, Emilia Clarke has agreed to marry me.
Emilia Clarke and I will be spending our honeymoon under the sea in an octopus' garden in the shade. He'll let us in, knows where we've been, in his octopus' garden in the shade.
Then we'll spend some time in a boat on a river with tangerine trees and marmalade skies!
I am the walrus!
Rubio lost Florida and dropped out. Kasich is winning Ohio. Cruz is leading in Missouri and North Carolina for now...
Bev!
Rubio won. And it feels amazing. It fees like words are flowing out like endless rain into a paper cup. They slither wildly as they slip away across the universe. Pools of sorrow waves of joy are drifting through my opened mind, possessing and caressing me.
Jai Guru Deva. Om.
Nothing's gonna change my world.
I just got in from working in our garden. Tonight we put down fertilizer and panted the onion sets. Tomorrow we have some more dirt work, and the garden needs to set while the fertilizer percolates in the soil. This year we're going to have tomatoes, onions, bell peppers, egg plant, corn, and strawberries. Also with zucchini, cucumbers, and pumpkins. We have a lot of work ahead of us still. My tiller broke down so I took it in tonight for repair...my dog, Max, a blue-heeler killed a half-grown groundhog right in front of me..She saw the groundhog before I did, I never even got my pistol out the holster to shoot it and she was on it like ugly on an ape. Good doggie.
Kit- just keep breathing...don't hyperventilate like I am doing now. Slowly...breathe...in with the Good air...out with the bad.
Crotch - it sounds great. Looks like you are ready for the pending Apocalypse!
Poor little groundhog. But that is the cycle of life....
Bev,
Rubio won and I am in a happy place right now. A happy place.
Glad you liked the vids, Bev! Here's another one I forgot that should also help you escape from this evening. (Really NSFW) And no, to the best of my knowledge, it's not a biography from the future about a likely GOP nominee.
Critch, is your dog available to make a trip Punxsutawney next year? If so, please notify the resistance at the Western Pennsylvania Society for a Better Groundhog. ("Give Gus a Chance!")
Congrats on Emilia Clarke, Kit. LOL!
I read the news today.
Oh boy.
BTW, Kit, were you aware that Trump has been unironically playing "Revolution" at his rallies?
Yeah--
Sometimes it seems like more people are going crazy, or maybe this is bizarro world now. Sheesh.
Max is typical of heelers, quite friendly unless they think their master or their herd is threatened. One of my heelers (many years ago) tore into two coyotes and whipped both of them. They shouldna been near the goats. Humans are social creatures, we cannot survive alone. If bad things come, you still need community, you have to sleep sometime.
