Cotton, Confederates, & Other Social Media Craziness...

Stuff like this just keeps happening.

So, in a Hobby Lobby somewhere in time and space devoid of rational thought, this happened. You must know Hobby Lobby by now. It's a giant craft supply chain store that carries pretty much any kind of stuff to make crafty stuff. So, amongst the crafty craft-making supplies, they sell stuff to make flower arrangments. And one of those flower arrangement making things were stalks of raw cotton. [Here's a LINK for this stupid story from the NY Post.] But just to recap, a woman got triggered 'cause cotton means slaves and stuff.

But what really brought my attention to this latest triggering outrage is this great video by Chris Prather, also know as Political Cowboy posted on Facebook in response...[never heard of him before, btw]

I agree with him. All of this faux outrage to inanimate objects is just getting old.

And then there's this...The Mayor of Dallas Mike Rawlings along with a group of other brainiacs decided it was time to remove a little known statue of Robert E. Lee that had been in some park in Dallas since the beginning of time and has now become offensive. It cost $450,000 to remove it that could have fed, clothed or housed live humans, but no. Let's waste money that the city doesn't have because it's going bankrupt to remove an inanimate hunk of marble that's only danger is that it might fall on someone.

But I have to give props to some brave soul, Ken Green, who decided to do an ancestry check on Mayor Rawlings' ancestors...yep, there were many slave owners and at least one who served in the Confederate Army. Mr. Green ended by calling on Mayor Rawlings to resign.

Note...Hugh Alexander Meador served in the confederate Army.
Hugh A. Meador b 1784 owned 4 slaves.
Jason Meador b 1734 owned 5 slaves
Jason Meador(the Mayor's 5th great grandfather) owned 8 slaves.
Guess Mayor Rawlings needs to fess up and resign.

And then this is just amusing...I thought you Sci-Fi fans would love this new product being hawked on social media for realz!

I wonder if they have it green?? AAAAAgh, Soylent Green is People!!!!!

Okay, I am done. Now is the time to commence with your commentarama-ing on anything you want...

Being triggered by cotton is really sad, but there are even bigger idiots of social media. I think social media was invented to end careers.

Two corpsmen at the Naval Hospital Jacksonville in Florida have been fired after sharing images of themselves inappropriately handling black newborns and calling the babies “mini Satans.”

The employees posted a Snapchat video of a staff member moving the infant’s arms so that it looked like the baby was dancing while 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” plays in the background. They also posted a photo of an employee holding up her middle finger to a newborn with the caption: “How I currently feel about these ‘mini Satans.’”

OMG! It was a joke when I was a kid, "Why is aspirin racist?" I guess it's not a joke anymore. *sigh*

It's high time that we start selling Soylent Green as art becomes life.

Anthony - They are not bigger idiots, they are ALL idiots. They have always been amongst us, but only in their own small worlds and rooms. We used to refer to them as "the village idiots". Now they've gone global.

I sometimes wonder when I left the real world and stepped into a bad comedy thanks to things like this. You'd think this was just simple trolling but so many people are dead serious about this you really can't tell. Good on the public for calling the whining what it is, though, and that was a great video, too. And I'm not sure if I'd have named a meal replacement drink after fiction's most famous cannibalistic meal myself but at least it gets attention!

"Oh when those cotton balls get rotten, you can pick very much cotton". Honest to God you can't make this stuff up, can you. Feel like we are witnessing the collapse of the country, #southern culture on the skids

ArgentGale said...

Jed, you're not the only one to make that observation about this mess being an attack on southern culture and it's hard not to come to that conclusion when you see insanity like this. They really don't want people to see us southerners as anything other than ogres of isms and phobias, do they?

Wait a minute... aspirin is racist?

Hey everybody. I just wanted to drop by and say that I'm getting closer to coming back. Monday and Tuesday were 10+ pain days on my leg -- the Wound Clinic nurses all came by and said, "Wow, that looks painful." Uh, yeah. But I think we've turned the corner. Hopefully, by Monday I'm ready to return to bloviating! Thanks for your patience.

And thanks to Bev for keeping the lights on!

BevfromNYC said...

Hey Andrew!!! Wow, I hope you're getting relief! But the good (or bad) news is you haven't missed much and nothing has changed In the world.

And yes, pretty much everything in the world is racist. I can't wait for someone to denounce indoor plumbing to be racist next 'cause it's the evil invention of the Western World.

Bev is right. If there is ever a good time to be laid up with excruciating leg pain, it's been the last couple of weeks. The usual outrage drones on, but nothing much interesting is in the news. I'm sure there are plenty of interesting things going on in the world. Just not in the news.

Glad to hear you're on the mend. Look forward to having you back!

I hope you get to feeling better Andrew and soon....

BTW, I saw Shin Godzilla the other night, I really liked it...there's an element of dark humor to it...but it's pretty good...

I know it's common to hear people bashing the original Godzilla, however, that was a scary movie...before I knew about the whole Cthulhu Mythos you have to think how would a country, the world, react to something that is so destructive and has no feelings of humanity at all...even that we exist..

ArgentGale said...

Glad your recovery is well underway, Andrew! Take all the time you need.

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks for all the well wishes, everyone. I'm definitely getting better, it's just taking a long time. I'm down on the pain pills finally and my leg doesn't feel like it's going to explode. As I put it to the woman at wound care, it's down from 10+ pain to 6+ and that's like it's pain free by comparison. :)

This Trump v. NFL thing annoys me. The issue was dead. It was down to a handful of players and journalists, and they were backtracking and sputtering and had no idea what to do.

Now Trump jumps in on a dead issue like a bull in a china shop and not only has he given a dead idea a spark, but he's given hundreds of people who were afraid of the issue an easy reason to jump on board. Ug. What a stupid thing to do!

BevfromNYC said...

Except now 8 yr olds are following suit. And that's disturbing to me. But remember that Trump is a master diversion. The conviction switched from NK to...uninviting some basketball team to the WH because they hesitated accepting. Kind of like he called their bluff though.

Btw, big earthquake in NK today at the site of their underground nuclear site. Hmm, I thought they weren't supposed to have a nuclear site underground or otherwise because of that Clinton treaty and such. Can't wait for Iran's teating. Btw, the new Pres. Of France is kinda' on board with Trump on that one.

Big doings in NYC last week with the UN General Assembly and such. It's always fun at this time...

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew, great to hear that you pain is down to 6! I pray it goes to 1. Hey, none of us can be at 0, right?

AndrewPrice said...

Thanks, Bev! On my first visit, when they were wrapping my leg, I was honestly struggling not to scream, it was that bad. I'm well past that now. :)

On the 8 year olds... first, this is the adults and I assure you that a show of anti-Americanism is the least worst thing they are learning from these people. Moreover, again, you're talking a couple of teams, just as it was a couple of players in the NFL. Now it has new life. Watch for whole teams to kneel tomorrow.

When your enemy is dying, let them. Don't give them life.

On the earthquake, do you know what the Ring of Fire is? It's a ring of volcanoes that ring the Pacific and make the earth look like it has the seams of a baseball. All of the recent earthquakes have been along that ring -- Mexico, New Zealand, off Japan, North Korea, and a couple more.

Critch,

I saw Shin Godzilla in theaters. It was... eh, ok.

Also, if you want a good appreciation of the original Godzilla I recommend SFDebris' review of it.

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew you are right about that "ring of fire". But perhaps exacerbated by nefarious nuclear testing. NK had one with major landslides before the West coast earthquake in Mexico last week.
Yeah, I know, I sound like that Alex whathisname...but then I have noticed that earthquakes come in global clusters. Also quakes in Idaho and..well.. Oklahoma that's had hundreds in the last 5 years or so. Also on a major fault line spanning from Missouri to Dallas.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, What I've read about the earthquakes in places like Dallas and Missouri is that they are the result of the glacier that once sat on those parts receding as the planet has warmed from the last ice age. Basically, the whole area was pressed down by glaciers, which have now retreated. That is causing the land to rise up again and shake. Hence earthquakes. California is tectonic plates. The Ring of Fire is the earth's crust being unsettled. Idaho I don't know. Could be Martians.

AndrewPrice said...

P.S. Nuclear testing on an unstable site could certainly create blowback. It would be pretty funny if North Korea destroyed themselves with a massive earthquake. LOL!

Trump choosing to respark the NFL feud makes sense for Trump. Populism is all about victimization, so populists need long lists of enemies to feud with in a highly visible fashion in order to reinforce their followers' sense of persecution.

BevfromNYC said...

So Andrew, what you're really saying is that the earthquakes ARE caused by global warming since, yeah, that Missouri to Dallas fault line was once covered in ice until, what, 1925 or so. Then the evil oil banking Jewish, Nazi white supremicist Wall Street empire melted it because...how does Alex Jones do this?? It's exhausting!

Critch said...

I wish Trump would put on a little more decorum, however, I've referred to plenty of SOBs as SOBS....maybe the posh, limousine liberals need to know what we really think of them.

AndrewPrice said...

Critch, My complaint wasn't his language, it was the fact that he just gave life to a movement in its deaththrows. This whole kneeling thing was ending and ending badly. Now he's given it life. It was stupid. When your enemy is dying... let them.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Pretty much, yeah.
