Election Night America!

And away we go. It's election day!

As the swing states decide, we'll update the map above and let you know which states have gone which way. Reputable sources say Romney wins 315 votes. My personal guess is that he wins 301 votes: New Hampshire, VA, NC, Florida, Ohio, Wisconsin, Iowa, all of Nebraska, Colorado, and Nevada. He does not get Oregon, any of Maine, or Pennsylvania. But we'll see.

The Senate is important tonight too. Of those "in play," we are defending: Massachusetts, Indiana, Maine and Arizona. All but Arizona are endangered. The Democrats are defending: Hawaii, Wisconsin, Connecticut, North Dakota, Nebraska, Montana, Ohio, Florida, Missouri, Pennsylvania, and Virginia. All but Florida are endangered. We need to win a net of four seats to take control. I predict we win four.
Your thoughts, predictions and insider-info below...

Mourdock currently up by ten with 2% of the vote in, which means...probably nothing.

Breaking.....MSNBC calls it for Obama!!

(Spews coffee from mouth)

.......justkidding.......

T-Rav said...

Patriot, MSNBC called it for Obama in April.

AndrewPrice said...

Hang in there Tam. I have faith in America. :)

AndrewPrice said...

LOL! MSNBC called it months ago, so they will spend tonight talking about how Republicans stole the election.

Patti said...

tam: you totally left out our badass west...

Tam said...

I have faith in America too. I really do. I honestly believe we will not become Europe in this election. But, the anxiety! It's there.

Tam said...

Patti, I put MOST of my faith in America in the BadAss West.

T-Rav said...

Andrew, it's called "managing expectations." Also "moving the goalposts."

Patriot said...

What site are you guys watching / reading to get the most up to date results?

I've got foxnews.com They have a pretty good site to track ongoing results

T-Rav said...

Patriot, I have it on Fox News as well, though muted for now. If I have to hear Bill Hemmer say "Let's go to the map" ONE more time, I will have a psychotic break.

AndrewPrice said...

Tam, Trust me, I'm right there with you. I want to believe our country can turn itself around, but there is a lot of anxiety tonight.

Commentarama Projectors said...

With one vote cast... we can call Georgia, Kentucky and South Carolina for Romney... and the Northeastern Bloc for Comrade Obama.

T-Rav said...

Should be seeing calls for Indiana and Kentucky in just a couple minutes.

Tam said...

fox calls KY for Romney

Joel Farnham said...

If you want an interactive map with no commenting go to yahoo and then click on Election 2012 Control Room. Then click the map. When you mouse over any one state, it shows the poll results in real time. :-)

http://news.yahoo.com/control-room/

T-Rav said...

And there you go. Romney by 34 in Kentucky, 21 in Indiana. That'll narrow, but still a lead.

And of course, we have to go ahead and call stupid Vermont.

Koshcat said...

No surprise. Calling Kentucky and Indiana for Mitt.

T-Rav said...

This Mourdock-Donnelly race should be fun. And by fun, I mean the exact opposite.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I think Donnelly loses, but I suspect Akin will win.

Kit said...

VA too close to call.

darski said...

is there a free source for watching the results as they come in. Fox won't let me in.

Individualist said...

So Andrew

I hear MSNBC has called the election for OBama already. They said "just stay home" its a done deal.

T-Rav said...

Some of these early numbers will be bouncing around for a while, so no one freak out yet.

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, Yep. And I'm SURE that MSNBC is telling the truth.

Joel Farnham said...

Darski,

Go to Yahoo. It has a free interactive map with real-time results being posted. Click on the control room, then click on the map. Mouse over any state you want to see. It has President, Senate, Representatives and Governors.

T-Rav said...

Per Fox, Romney is winning VA independents by 12, and seniors by almost 20. Reason for optimism?

Patriot said...

OMG......Vermont went for Obama?! (Slits wrists)

BevfromNYC said...

OMG! I just got home. I live 3 walking minutes from my polling place. It took me 3 hours to vote! And when I left the line outside was STILL around the block! It was insanity. The people working the polls were completely incompetent. And there were NO secret ballots. I saw exactly who the people in front of me were voting for - Obama (no surprise). But I did make friends...obviously Romney voters.

Returns are coming in:
Romney has taken Indiana and Kentucky (no surprise)
Obama took Vermont - no surprise

Electoral votes so far
Romney - 19
Obama - 3

T-Rav said...

Not a lot of attention being paid to House seats, but it is interesting to see the KY-6, which has the Republican up right now. (We narrowly fell short in 2010.)

Patti said...

~head between knees makes it hard...but not impossible...to drink~

WHERE ARE THOSE MARTINIS, WRITER X???? Patti needs three stat!!

T-Rav said...

Andrew's favorite state has just been called for Romney. Enjoy, sir. Enjoy.

Patriot said...

SC for Obama!!!!

darski said...

I posted a TY but it didn't go thru... I'm more nervous than the rest of youse guys L0L0L

I have AFA coverage on - yahoo is in the bag for Obama... they're "blaming Bush"

T-Rav said...

It'll be interesting to see how the Florida numbers change when the Panhandle comes in in 30 minutes.

Kit said...

"It'll be interesting to see how the Florida numbers change when the Panhandle comes in in 30 minutes."

Does it typically lean right or left?

T-Rav said...

Up on the board goes South Carolina. 33-3 for Romney.

T-Rav said...

Kit, it goes hard right, no "leaning" about it. I would expect a 70-30 split for Romney.

tryanmax said...

All right. I'm back. What did I miss?

Koshcat said...

W. virginia called.

Kit said...

"Kit, it goes hard right, no "leaning" about it. I would expect a 70-30 split for Romney."

Good to hear.

Patriot said...

Still too early......."GO OBAMA".....backtohawaii

Tam said...

Bev, there's appletinis in Tucson...come on down! By the time you get here, the results will be in, we'll be blargity blerg shlop.

T-Rav said...

Word is Cuyahoga County, OH (Cleveland) is estimating a drop in votes of 170,000 from '08. If that's true, it's going to be pretty freaking hard for Obama to win the state, on top of everything else that's come in.

T-Rav said...

There goes Georgia for Romney.

49 Romney
3 Obama

Kit said...

What does everyone say of VA being too close to call?

USArtguy said...

I've voted in every election since 1980 and this was by far the heaviest turnout I've seen. I'm always one of the first 10 people in line. I've even been first on two different occasions. This morning I was about 100 at 10 after 6!

T-Rav said...

And now comes the big wave. This should get fun.

BevfromNYC said...

Tam - I'll just make some here and save the teleporting fee! I'm getting pretty close to "bargity blerg shlop" here in NYC. My voting experience had me a little frazzled...glurb, glurb, shlob...**hiccup**

Patriot said...

......and away we go.............

T-Rav said...

I have a can of hard lemonade in the fridge, either to celebrate or to mourn. Hopefully not mourn.

T-Rav said...

And the Florida Senate race gets called for Nelson. Blast.

Kit said...

"And the Florida Senate race gets called for Nelson. Blast."

Shit.

T-Rav said...

Now I'm going to be biting my lip until MO's results roll in. (grimace)

darski said...

I liked the score much better when it was 49-3 for R. This 80-71... Not so much.

AndrewPrice said...

Fox seems to have decided that Romney has lost and they are blaming Chris Christie. Waaaay too early to call this race.

tryanmax said...

I've NBC on in the background and they don't sound terribly optimistic. There's a lot of talk about "bipartisanship." I think everyone here knows what that means.

Tam said...

eesh...meeeeh...bler...I need more solid numbers. Or another appletini.

Okay, appletini!

Kit said...

Some are saying Romney unlikely to get VA.

Its too close for him.

T-Rav said...

Romney has now gone up in Florida. Obama has a lead in Ohio, but that's mainly because they released the early/absentee votes first.

T-Rav said...

Kit, I don't know why. He's still up by a significant margin.

tryanmax said...

I've got Fox News' website up. Their map is a confusing mess.

Kit said...

"Kit, I don't know why. He's still up by a significant margin,"

Just saw the numbers. A bit better now.

What about NC?

BevfromNYC said...

Yahoo! has Romney leading in both Florida and Virginia right now...substantially in Virginia 59% to 40%. Florida is close.

AndrewPrice said...

They aren't calling Virginia, but with 20% reporting, Romney is up by 106,000. I can't see Obama making that up over the next 80%.

Tam said...

I just talked to my sister in NC. She says the "sense" is that Romney will win. Ugh. (Hic)

T-Rav said...

Andrew, it's mathematically possible, but given what I saw in the way of turnout reports today, I doubt it happening.

AndrewPrice said...

The BIG thing Fox said which is troubling (and which I actually don't believe) is that Obama is winning women by 8% and Romney's winning men by 8%, so Obama would win.

BUT... that would be a huge shift. Even McCain won men by something like 15%. I can't see men suddenly shifting toward Obama. I think their polling is wrong.

In fact, I'm wondering if their polling isn't skewed toward the Northeast?

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, Something just isn't adding up and either all the turnout polls are wrong and people really suddenly flipped, or their exit polling is wrong.

CrispyRice said...

Fox seems to have their head up their butts. OMG, they've written the race off already. Ugh.

tryanmax said...

Yeah, I agree, I can't make sense of anything I'm seeing. It doesn't match up with anything in the leadup.

T-Rav said...

Andrew, exit polling is notoriously bad, and common sense (for whatever that's worth) says otherwise.

Kit said...

Any comfort on FL?
I heard Obama is back in lead.

BevfromNYC said...

Florida's flippin' and floppin' on Yahoo! NC has gone red and Virginia is holding red...

CrispyRice said...

Karl Rove... the good news bearer, LOL

AndrewPrice said...

Crispy, I agree. FOX sucks.

That said, Carl Rove just said some interesting things about Ohio and Florida. In Florida, he said that Romney had erased Obama's early vote lead, so look for Romney to start getting ahead.

In Ohio, there is 49% turnout in democratic districts as of 5:00 pm and 79% turnout in Republican districts.

I think Romney wins Florida, Ohio, and Virginia.

T-Rav said...

Arkansas now in. That makes it 88 Romney, 78 Obama, per Fox News.

CrispyRice said...

I sure hope so, Andrew!

tryanmax said...

An early lead for Romney in Michigan. No results from Wayne Co. (Detroit) but Oakland Co. (just north) is red.

tryanmax said...

CNN shows 73/64 Romney.

AndrewPrice said...

Our Senate map is updated to change Florida! :) and :(

T-Rav said...

Kit, Karl Rove (for whatever he's worth) says that now that the early votes are counted, Romney should be taking the lead soon. So.

Patriot said...

Won't feel good until FL, PA and OH go Romney

rlaWTX said...

I remember why I don't watch the results as they come in - way to stressful and confusing. SO, I'll be popping in and out of Fox and watching y'all on here keep me updated... (or I'll stay hanging on bare knuckled 'cause I can't look away)

rlaWTX said...

**white knuckled (or is that racist?)

Math said...

tryanmax, 73/64??? Have we met?

Kit said...

"Won't feel good until FL, PA and OH go Romney"

Same here.

tryanmax said...

Dear Math, I'm talking about electoral votes.

T-Rav said...

Well, looks like that whole "Vote Obama-McMahon" thing in Connecticut didn't go so well. Sigh.

tryanmax said...

Apparently NBC has a new comedy called 1600 Penn starring a white guy as president, so they have obviously thought Romney would win for long enough to get a comedy into production.

T-Rav said...

tryanmax, sounds like a winning ticket to restart NBC's lineup. (Not really.)

Kit said...

Any good news on OH?

Tam said...

almost 30% to 1000 comments!

Tam said...

and no good news yet on Ohio. Yet.

AndrewPrice said...

Fox now has Laura Ingraham on to tell us why the Republicans are stupid because they didn't do things the way she wanted... whatever that was.

Kit said...

Yahoo has OH
Romney 41%
Obama 57%

Worried. Any good news on that, or at least NOT terrible news?

Tam said...

"not terrible" news in OH, per Karl Rove via Ace of Spades...

Rove now also thinks Romney will win Florida (early vote now counted, rest of the sailing should be smooth) and pointed to bad turnout in Cuyhoga, and strong turnout in the neighboring Republican counties, to suggest Ohio's looking good for Romney.

Patriot said...

Wouldn't listen to Yahoo for political news....very left leaning

T-Rav said...

Fox News is saying Casey will win in Pennsylvania, but I suggest it not be changed on the map yet. A two-point margin? Whatever.

AndrewPrice said...

And we do not win the Senate seat in PA... no surprise really.

Kit said...

Is the GOP even CAPABLE of nominating an electable candidate for the Senate???

Patriot said...

Kit......Not unless they are conservative...and not the whack job type they've tended to recently

tryanmax said...

Oh, so Ingraham is griping that Romney isn't as big a flip-flopper as she is? That's ironic.

T-Rav said...

Currently, Romney leads Obama in MO with a whopping 1% of precincts in, 58-40. McCaskill leads Akin, 52-42.

tryanmax said...

(so glad I don't have cable)

T-Rav said...

Both sides now say Romney will win Florida. Among other reasons why: Obama's only getting 66% of the Jewish vote, as opposed to 80% in '08.

Jon said...

Hey everyone! Greetings. I was at class, Go Romney!!! Channel The Gipper.

Kit said...

"Both sides now say Romney will win Florida. Among other reasons why: Obama's only getting 66% of the Jewish vote, as opposed to 80% in '08."

Praise be to God!

You sure?

Individualist said...

Ohio does not look good...

Florida shows Romeny 80K votes behind but Romney is steadily increasing that lead. I hope Bay county with 2% in Romney up 2 to one can make it for us.... God help us if that lying SOB stays in the Whitehouse ..... Man I hate this

BevfromNYC said...

Wow, Florida is close...4K vote difference 53% reporting...Obama leading.

What IS it about Florida??

darski said...

I'm seeing R more than half way there and O less than half way there... I'm not good with real-life suspense

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Ingraham did her usual "everyone is stupid because of things they did which I won't identify and if they had only done things like I told them to do, then they would be winning this."

tryanmax said...

It's a big gap, but I'm seeing it narrowing in NH. ?????

T-Rav said...

Kit, it came from NBC's Chuck Todd, so if he's saying it, I think it's pretty credible.

AndrewPrice said...

We lost the senate seat in Maine.

T-Rav said...

Romney now has a marginal lead back in Florida. Figured that was coming along sooner or later.

Kit said...

PA goes to Obama.

Crap.

Tam said...

FU PA.

BevfromNYC said...

Florida just went back to Romney - 60% reporting.

Kit said...

"Florida just went back to Romney - 60% reporting."

Please stay that way!

Kit said...

Still scared of Ohio.

T-Rav said...

It's a good thing I started in on Facebook before breaking out the alcohol. I might get in even worse entanglements than I will to begin with.

T-Rav said...

On the good side, the Republicans are now projected to hold on to the House, which we were expecting anyway. Still, in case there's a worst-case scenario, we always have that lever of obstruction.

AndrewPrice said...

Fox says the Republicans keep the House... no shock there.

Kit said...

Well, I'm starting to think Obama might survive tonight.

AndrewPrice said...

CRAP! Wisconsin goes to Obama. That puts it all on Ohio.

Tam said...

WTF, WI

CrispyRice said...

I could use some words of hope over here... :'(

T-Rav said...

It's going to all come down to Ohio. Again.

Kit said...

Yeah, I'm thinking tonight Obama will win.

T-Rav said...

I've put Fox on mute. I can't listen to any more punditry from either side.

Tam said...

Kit, you are officially banned! No bad news here until it's official. Winning!!! Tiger Blood! Shot! Blargity blerg!

AndrewPrice said...

Hang tight Crispy. Florida, Virginia, NC and Ohio are drifting his way and that will win him the election.

Kit said...

Good news: Romney is narrowing it up in OH.

FL is looking like 2000 2.0

Jesus Christ.

AndrewPrice said...

And we lost Indiana. No surprise.

BUT, on the plus side, we're running out of places where the Democrats have the advantage...

T-Rav said...

With 4% reporting in Missouri, Romney's now up 54-45, McCaskill up 51-42.

AndrewPrice said...

And they called Ohio for the Democrat. The Senate is getting harder.

T-Rav said...

Well, wonderful. Romney may win the race, but it doesn't look like we'll win the Senate.

Out comes the alcohol....

Jen said...

Donnelly sucks.

Kit said...

T-Rav,,

We survived 3 years w/o a budget. We can survive at least 2 more.

rlaWTX said...

y'all are not encouraging!! :/

AndrewPrice said...

Senate going down in flames. We lost Wisconsin.

T-Rav said...

Kit, is that supposed to be an upside?

rlaWTX said...

I'm going to watch Fifth Element now.

Kit said...

"Kit, is that supposed to be an upside?"

Not really.

AndrewPrice said...

Ok folks, stay positive. Don't forget, the left owns the first part of the night because of geography. There are only a couple key states and they have no yet spoken.

And Scott Brown loses... no surprise.

Right now I'm calling 50/50 on the Senate.

Kit said...

"I saw a report that WI may have been called too soon. FU NH!!!"

Where?

Jon said...

ah crap, there goes NH

Koshcat said...

I don't get where they are calling Wisconsin yet. The numbers are still in Romney's and Thompson's favor.

AndrewPrice said...

Keep hanging tight people.

T-Rav said...

I've been holding off, but I've been looking at the MO Sen numbers for over an hour now, and there's no way that Akin can win, based on the areas that are reporting. Consider that one a Dem hold. Which is surprising, seeing as how God told Akin to stay in the race and all.

rlaWTX said...

Andrew, any tighter and I'm gonna put my fingernails through my palms!

Tam said...

It's at Ace of Spades. They have lots of people on the ground reading numbers. It's not Fox, not any big organization or firm, I think they may just be playing safe and not calling it yet, but their people are reporting strong numbers for Romney/Ryan in WI. I'm holding on to hope, Kit. Any small sliver.

T-Rav said...

Kosh, that seems like a bogus call to me as well.

Koshcat said...

I think I'm going to be ill. Not going well. Maybe I just do not understand most people.

Koshcat said...

SURPRISE! Montana went for Romney.

T-Rav said...

Oh, and a hearty "Fuck you" to Fox News for using a calling system that gives a state like WI to Obama with like 5% in, but still won't call Missouri when one-sixth of the votes are in and Romney's up by 18.

(Yeah, I cursed. I'm just taking it out on whoever at this point.)

rlaWTX said...

Montana has like half an electoral vote, though

AndrewPrice said...

I hate to say it, but Florida and Ohio don't look good right now.

Jen said...

rla, any suggestions where that might be? We can then take it over. I have food production knowledge which should help. Unless...like Wahsatchmo said "exploit..."

tryanmax said...

I'm just comparing the incoming results to my prediction map and, ignoring Faux News' preemptive WI call, it's still possible.

BTW, the GOP picks up a senate seat from NE! Keeps all three house seats, too! And it looks like Obama loses his one EV from Dist. 2. Factor in a R. Gov. and I officially live in an all-red state for the first time in my life!

darski said...

Todd Akin really ticks me off! It was not what he said but rather that he was stupid enough to say it! And I don't want a bunch of whack job Christians calling me to book for thinking that.

he can be thanked for every baby that dies - on your dime - forever! May God have mercy on his soul!

Well, going to bed.

Any good news?

NO BAD NEWS!!! Not yet. pleaseohpleaseohplease.

Florida is 35K up for Obama...

Bad for us Miami is 56% reported

Good for us Santa Rosa County up in the Panhandle has not reported anything. They have a population of 151 and counties there are 2 to one Romney.

If the remainder of Miami raises the GOP a little bit and Santa Rosa comes in we still take the state but I am worried.

darski said...

How is this possible - even Zero knew he was losing?

it should not be close

T-Rav said...

darski, the thing that will burn me up forever is that after he said it, he refused to get out of the race because God didn't tell him not to and "It wouldn't be fair to Missouri voters." Well, I voted for the idiot in August, and I wanted him gone 24 hours after hearing him say it. What an idiot.

T-Rav said...

rla, I know. I'm being a foul-mouthed person tonight.

Jen said...

T-Rav, I'm on the phone with my sister right now, and she wasn't happy with Akin either. She had a very hard time voting for him today, but did not want McCaskill.

AndrewPrice said...

The problem I'm having with what Rove is saying about Ohio is that my data says Cuyahoga county is only reporting 7%. If they dump another 93%, then Obama gains another 200,000 votes and I don't see that being overcome.

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, How big is that county because I can't figure that out?

rlaWTX said...

T-Rav, no worries. I'm feeling it!
