Oh, By The Way...

There are some things you might not have known before the election. We meant to tell you about those, but you know. . . we got busy. Sorry. Anyway, America, here is what you might have missed.

Why Obamacare May Fail: Boy is my face red. See, it turns out there might be a problem with Obamacare actually working, which NO ONE foresaw. See, the nation faces a doctor shortage. And we all know shortages just happen, they have nothing to do with supply and demand signals which redirect people to different professions.

Anyhoo, it turns out that the nation will need another 52,000 family doctors than we are expected to have by 2025. Unfortunately, we won’t have that because doctors are greedy. They are choosing to go into specialties rather than work for long hours for low pay which can’t pay back their massive student loans by becoming family doctors. //sigh What will those evil rich do to us next?

Oh, and part of the problem is that Medicare won’t pay enough for people to want to be doctors. . . rotten, evil Medicare. Someone really should fix that.

Anyway, just some sidenotes from the study: Obamacare won’t make this worse when it brings 38 million new people into the system (hey, wasn’t that 43 million a couple years ago?) because these numbers already include that. . . unless you think the study is lying (hint hint: it is, prior studies pinned this number above 100,000). And this MAY change your ability to actually see your doctor, but don’t sweat that because you will have guaranteed coverage (subject to doctor availability). Also, if there should somehow happen to be an access problem, like in Massachusetts, which has tons of family doctors (second highest ratio of family docs to other docs in the country) and still can’t keep up with demand, then maybe we need to drop this idea that people should be seeing doctors and should instead see nurses. . . or talk to an online doctor? (translation: learn to be happy with less, folks). And/Or maybe we should force doctors to work in “patient-centered homes, where everyone works on a team in effort to increase the number of patients per provider.” (translation: work harder you f*cking doctors. . . arbeit mach frei, my friends). Yep, smooth sailing ahead!

And remember, socialism only failed because no one ever tried it right.

And About Those Human Rights: Hey, did you hear about this? Drone strikes. Kill lists. Renditions to secret CIA prisons. Attacks on countries we have not declared war against. Undeclared wars in Sudan, Libya, Pakistan, Yemen, etc. Secret military tribunals for our Arab guests. Bush is evil. . . Obama is evilER. Fortunately, human rights only matter when the wrong people violate them!

Remember When You Worked Full Time? Ok, a history lesson. Europe is a basket case. If you’re old and got your job in the 1960s-1980s or if you work for the government or if you’re a professional, then things are fine. If you’re anybody else, well, you’re f*ed and not in a good way! See France and Spain offer the classic examples. They imposed all these laws to help “workers.” And despite everyone being absolutely sure that business wouldn’t try to get around these. . . somehow, they did. What they did, was they started hiring people only as part-timers so the laws wouldn't apply. Hence, those benefits you normally would have gotten, you no longer got those, and forget the new ones the government “gave” you too.

Well, if there’s one thing the Democrats have learned, it’s to never pay attention to history. So they’ve been busy passing all kinds of laws forcing companies to give benefits to workers, like Obamacare. Yep. And we KNOW that business will happily give such benefits, just as they did(n’t) in Spain and France!

Along comes Olive Garden. . . and Papa Johns. And they have announced they will cut worker’s hours below 30 hours so they all qualify as “part time” and they aren’t required to provide healthcare to any of their employees. Sooo sorry if your wages suck ass now, but hey, NO ONE could have seen this coming. These are just the first, too. Olive Garden is owned by Darden, which owns dozens of other franchises. And other companies are saying the same thing. Expect this to spread throughout the service industry. So basically, the gay waiter, single mother and youth demographic who depend on these jobs (all core Obama supporters) is about to discover that life will be a lot harder under their Messiah. Whoops. Maybe we can raise the minimum wage to help them? That always creates jobs, doesn't it?

We Didn’t Really Mean It? Do you remember how Obama promised to make those evil rich suffer to placate the spite of his followers? And do you remember all those corporate loopholes Obama wanted to close to put a worker’s boot up the ass of our rich cousins? Uh... not so much. The Democrats have signaled that they want to raise the limit on who will be taxed to maybe $500,000 or even a million, and they aren’t really interested in going too high with the rates either. Moreover, they don’t want to close any loopholes, like the Republicans want. I guess the rich found a friend in Comrade Obama.

So basically, gays, youths, single mothers and people who need government-provided healthcare will suffer because of Obama. . . and the rich get off unscathed. I wonder if Obama's moronic followers will see the irony in any of this? Probably not.

noticed the Dems are already talking about letting us go over the fiscal cliff to strengthen their bargaining position. Now that is moronic if not ironic.

Andrew.....Do I detect a hint of sarcasm in your missive? Probably not.

I am coming to the realization of the awesome power of propaganda. How this socialist/leftist and his minions continue to escape justice and nemesis is beyond me. The media has made him to be the most clueless President ever (F&F..never heard of it; Wall Street bailouts for my rich donors..Don't know what you're talking about; Secret CIA prisons..I was never told about them) yet he skates and continues his b.s.

Same with all these tax hikes and economy destroying regulations. "Someone lied to me. This wasn't supposed to happen. No one told me that companies would react like this."

I was talking with my SO this weekend and she stated that it was sort of nice to have your food, housing, healthcare and other necessities taken care of by the government. All you had to do was just live. I told her slaves were made in such ways. That what the gov't provided the gov't could take away. Nope...nothing (I'm seriously considering changing the nature of our relationship!)

Now comes the education. Reality is something that the Obama voter has never had to deal with, oh well. A little hardship builds character, and life is always the great arbiter of what is possible. Here we go.

OMG!! I'm shocked...SHOCKED! Are you actually stating that Obama has been lying to us?? That the "middle class" will NOT do fine? That the seas have not receded and the skies have not cleared and rainbows and unicorns are not dotting the landscape while it rains Skittles in EverythingforFreeLand?

Are you saying that we will eventually "run out of other peoples' money" and those evil rich people will continue to their evil rich people evil deeds? But, this is Obama we're talking about!!! It can't be true because the press would report it, right??

-Ugh...I can see the fiscal cliff from my window now and it's looking pretty good. Let's go over and see what happens next. Any bets? I bet $6trillion bucks that there will be lots and lots of whining from the left that if the Republicans had just warned us, the bad times never would have happened...

Obama[doesn't]Care: Let me get this straight. We will improve education by hiring more teachers whilst we improve healthcare by laying off doctors. Give the Dems one thing: they're consistantly inconsistant.

When Obamacare passed, I predicted to my friends and family the coining of some Orwellian phrase along the lines of "unenforcable rights" in relation to the "right" of healthcare (or is that healthcare coverage? I'm so confused) "guaranteed" by the PPACA. It will probably be a little slicker than that, but stay tuned to the Sunday shows for it to debut. I'm guessing mid-February to early March.

Human Rights: You don't understand, Andrew! Those drone strikes and kill lists are all in defense of human rights. Obama only kills bad guys. And he's so rightous that he can't be burdened by silly things like "due process" and stuff like that. Pshaw!

Part Time: To answer your question, no, Obama's moronic followers will not see the irony in any of this. Rather, they will blame Papa John's and the Olive Garden and the greedy doctors and all the rest for being...well, greedy! The Obamatons won't even consider that the original Obamacare legislation allowed this part time "out." Expect there to be a push to somehow write part-timers into the law. Goodbye youth employment. On the bright side, never again will you have to ask to speak to the manager or even the owner of your local restaurant. She will be your server this evening! *smile*

Didn't Mean It: The first inkling I got of the tax limit being raised to $500,000 was the day I switched to NPR, the day after the election. And the way it was spoken, it was clearly not the first time the idea had been floated. So either the Dems are taking policy cues from public radio or they are using it to push a shadow platform.

On the subject of NPR, this morning one of their hosts described the difference between them and other talk radio stations is that they "listen" rather than talk. This from a station who's entire format is reading essays aloud. /irony

Can anyone tell me how to get in touch with the Chinese Triad Halawa banker as shown in the movie Premium Rush.

This is where you give a ganster money and he writes a smiley face on a used theater ticket and promises to give your money to whoever has the ticket without telling the government.

I know that usually it is considered daft to bank with gangsters in the Chinese triad but I am thinking that paying a doctor myself without the government will be better.

I mean I think the Chinese gangsters probably have more integrity than the Obama administration anyways.

T-Rav said...

I thought we'd established last week that I'll be doing the history lessons. :-|

Go figure that ObamaCare would have all sorts of unintended consequences. Oh well, all they need to do is pass new regulations specifying what kind of work doctors can or can't do and this will be resolved.

AndrewPrice said...

LL, I almost quoted Orwell in the article. The study in particular struck me as double speak.... don't worry, you'll get be happy with less!!

And the doctor shortage won't be a problem because doctors will find a way to work harder... for less pay! Hurray!

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, This is economic history, that's my turf. ;)

I expect that is exactly what will happen. The left loves things like wage and price control and if you are short of primary care doctors, then you just mandate that medical schools make more. No problem with that idea, right?

AndrewPrice said...

Joel, That is what liberals would argue. "We didn't intend this... we had no idea." But anyone with a brain would see this stuff happening, since it's happened EVERY TIME humans have tried this garbage.

AndrewPrice said...

Patriot, Me? Sarcastic? Perish the thought! ;)

Unfortunately, short-sighted people only ever look at one side of the equation. "It would be nice to have Bill's house." What about Bill? "Oh, I never thought about that." Or "It would be nice if the government provided everything and I just had to live." Where does the stuff the government gives you come from? "Uh, I have no idea... the government has lots of stuff."

Liberalism is about immediate want and it's not rational. It doesn't ask what's on the other side of the equation and it never asks how people will react once you make them into slaves. It just assumes that everything will always be the same.

And then when things go wrong, they always end up wondering how it went wrong, and then they steadfastly refuse to admit their mistakes.

AndrewPrice said...

Stan, I would agree except for one thing: liberals are incapable of learning. They will find reasons why things aren't working. (1) The evil rich cheated everyone. (2) Greedy doctors sabotaged the plan. (3) Greedy employers sabotaged everything. (4) Economic circumstances somehow got worse. (5) The Republicans didn't let the Democrats implement the plan fully. (6) Random chance messed things up. (7) We didn't go far enough. (8) Maybe the world has changed and we just need to expect less?

The one thing that will never be on that list: wow, our policies are retarded.

AndrewPrice said...

Patti, The real irony is that the people who will be hurt by this will by and large be liberals. They are the ones who will lose their jobs and who won't be able to find doctors. They will suffer. And, frankly, I'm good with that.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Sadly, this exactly what I'm saying... except the Skittles part, that will still happen.

I'm amazed not only how the media ignored these stories until after the election and how shocked they can pretend to be. All of this stuff was explained during the debate and they poo poo'd it. Now, suddenly, they're realizing it just might be true.

The one I find particularly amusing is that Obama isn't going to actually tax the rich like he promised. My guess is that we're looking at around a 5% hike in taxes on people earning more than a million dollars when this is ultimate over, and all of that will just be wiped out by the "loopholes" Obama doesn't actually want to close. And yet, his idiot followers will love him for socking it to the rich.

I really think the Republicans need to make this happen. They need to propose a 65% bracket with no deductions for anyone earning over a million dollars, the elimination of deductions for overseas income, capping home and tax deductions for anyone earning more than $250,000, eliminating deductions that Fortune 500 companies and Hollywood and Wall Street use.

And then see what Obama does. Make it very public. Let his followers see him fight to protect the rich.

Tennessee Jed said...

a bit off topic, but the Israeli strike on Hamas looks intriguing

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, We do need a new phrase for that because its already happening in Medicare/Medicaid and it will happen under Obamacare too. You will have the guaranteed right right to healthcare... you just won't be able to get any.

On teachers/doctors, I think you miss the point. They don't think doctors will leave the profession. Why would they? Less pay, longer hours, more intrusive government control over their lives... none of that makes people leave a profession, at least in liberal minds. Yeah, it would make them leave a profession, but it shouldn't affect other people.... this is for a good cause after all.

On human rights, it didn't matter with Bush, even the bad guys had human rights that evil Bush violated. So I'm thinking the real trigger isn't who loses their rights, it's who does the taking. Since Obama is good, his human rights violations don't hurt anyone.

On the part-timers, you are of course correct. In Spain and France, they blame companies for hiring only part-timers (and old people who won't leave their jobs to make way for the young), not the government. Idiots. On the plus side, this will cause them a lot of suffering and maybe some of them will snap out of their stupidity? Nah... probably not. Still, it will be nice to see them suffer.

On the rich, I've known for a long time that Obama isn't serious. Contrary to popular opinion, the Democratic Party is the party of the rich and they aren't going to tax themselves. It's just about rhetoric. By keeping their poor base whipped up about the rich, the Democrats make them think they will punish the rich. That gives them supporters, but it also lets them manipulate circumstances. What they will do is raise a couple of taxes which rich people don't pay (like inheritance tax) so they can claim they hurt the rich, and they will let the stupid Republicans look like they care only about the rich. In the end, the middle class gets hits with a tax hike, the rich don't, the Republicans look out of touch and classist, and the Democrats get to look like champions of the poor while they are actually protectors of the rich. Republicans need to call their bluff.

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, What you are already seeing (for about two decades now) is doctors opting out of the system. They are taking patients who pay directly without intervening insurance. They don't take Medicare or Medicaid. In effect, this is how the rich/upper middle class are avoiding the building catastrophe, and I expect that more and more doctors will be doing this in the future because it avoids a whole lot of trouble.

Look for the Democrats to eventually ban this too.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, "War is never the answer." Oh wait, it is when the other guy wants to kill you.

tryanmax said...

Andrew, I think that, under Bush, the bad guys weren't "really" bad guys. (This administration is going to make me wear out my quotes key.) After all, Bush himself was a bad guy, so the guys he was targeting had at least a 50/50 shot at being good guys in liberal "reality." (Gah! There we go again!)

P.S. I'm going to be out for most of the day as I need to go to Denver. Plus, I have a cold. Blech.

So feel free to talk amongst yourselves. :)

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, That could be. Still, I think the real key in liberal minds is who does the violating. If it's done by the right person, then it's fine. It's just when it's done by the wrong person that it's wrong. That seems to be how their inconsistent worldview works -- if it's done for the right cause, then anything is excusable (so long as it doesn't happen to them personally).

BevfromNYC said...

At the same time we could declare Commentarama as a tax shelt...er...religious organization. Who wants to be our Abraham?

T-Rav said...

Hey, you know what else is fun? Remember how Obama said he would only raise taxes by $800 billion and balance them with spending cuts? (Well, actually I don't, because I was tuning out most of his BS, but apparently he did say that.) Turns out, he's actually going to raise them by $1.6 trillion and offer less than $600 billion in real spending cuts.

Too bad the media's only learning about this now. If only they'd found out in time to let the American people know before they voted.

I still detect a little anger about last week's outcome in Andrew's essay. For me, I have a certain calm because I am curious to see how bad it will get. We have been preparing for a zombie apocolyps, we always thought they were going to be the living dead. Unfortunately, leftist policy has lead to the dead living. When promises of skittles and unicorn farts aren't kept and the money runs out, these zombies will wonder around confused and then angry. AndrewPrice said...

Thanks Anthony. I think you're right. I think the next plan will be to do what Britain is doing and import loads of doctors from third world countries, which will (1) dramatically reduce the quality of care here and (2) harm the health of those countries.

Liberals are very good at hurting people.

AndrewPrice said...

"mene, mene, tekel, parsin"? Is that African or something? Sounds racist.

I am waiting too for the caterwauling on the Obama Tax Hikes (formerly known as the Bush Tax Cuts). It won't hurt certain liberals who are on the dole. They have their own problems with losing $50.00 a month on welfare grants.

As for the "Bush Tax Cuts", I have to agree with Rush that anything that has been around for 10 years is the "current tax rates", sunset or not.

I was just razzing you a little about the anger. I agree with T-rav that I have a calm and anger.

Need to go but have wanted to comment on changing the Republican platform. With a Senate and Governor race coming up in 2 years here in Colorado, it would be a good time to address this now. AndrewPrice said...

Joel, That's the joke... it won't hurt the rich either. They will raise the capital gains rate 5% and maybe the regular income tax rate 5%. BUT they will leave in place all the deductions rich people use to pay no tax.

It's the same thing with the inheritance tax. Rich people don't pay that because they never inherit anything. It's all sitting in tax avoidance trusts.

Essentially, these tax hikes will just be for show.

As an aside, I read that rich people are currently dumping their assets (particularly stocks) and will pick them up again after certain time periods have passed because they so they pay the current rates on their gains. That means they can wait for years before selling again. They aren't going to pay a penny of these Obama taxes.

AndrewPrice said...

Koshcat, That would be great! But sadly, I think the Colorado GOP may be beyond hope. I hear the official sponsor of the party hierarchy is now Kool Aid.

I'll tell you though, if they ever want to turn things around, they better listen to that guy from Texas. We lost both Houses in this election and it's only going to get worse. Even in El Paso Country (my place) things are drifting left because they've alienated so many people with their stupidity... but they don't seem to care.

Angry and calm is a good way to put it. :)

AndrewPrice said...

Indi, I'm not sure. I haven't seen the provision. But the point isn't one of reporting, it's that a separate medical system is being created apart from the main one. And you are going to find that to get quality care, you will eventually need to find your way into that one.

AndrewPrice said...

More from the land of bizzaro, Obama has announced that he will not allow taxes on the middle class because that could result in reduced spending which could cause a second recession.

Yet, somehow, in his world the same isn't true of the rich? I guess they don't spend?

tryanmax said...

So apparently that idiot Bill Kristol went on the Sunday shows talking about raising the tax limit to $500,000 or $1 million. So regardless of the fact that a) Bill didn't say it first, and b) Bill is not a legislator, expect this to be a Republican idea that the Dems "ha-a-ad" to go along with to bring those intransigent Republicans along. Nice going, Billy Boy.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Sadly, there are several Republicans out there who are swearing they will defend "the rich" from this horrible assault on them.

My new hero is Bobby Jindal. I'm going to write about him next week, but he basically said "stop talking about helping the rich."

And just to make your point further.... look at the PR. Bill Krystol wants to raise to help people who earn less than a million a year (which will include thousands of millionaires, who don't earn anywhere near that each year). Meanwhile, Obama is talking about standing up for the middle class. Who wins that round?

AndrewPrice said...

P.S. To clarify, Obama can now agree to a $500,000 limit and claim he saved the middle class, while accusing the Republicans of trying to help millionaires and claiming he stopped the Republicans. Who is the winner there? It ain't us.
