Inauguration Weekend of Fun

"In a way, Obama's standing above the country, above -- above the world. He's sort of God. He's going to bring all different sides together."

- Evan Thomas, editor of Newsweek 2009

So, just in case you didn't know, it's the moment we all have been waiting for, isn't it? It's the second annual Obama Inauguration Weekend in Washington, D.C.!!! Yes, we will be swearing at...er...in our Commander-in-Chief for his second shot (oops!) at righting (or "lefting") our National course. This weekend will have all the pomp and circumstance of a country not in a fiscal crisis too! Here's just a sampling of what you can expect.

And if you can't attend, but want to keep the memory with you always, here's a site where you can get your very own set of Presidential golf balls and golf towel that may very well come with its very own Presidential sweat! (how inappropriately cheeky!)

Anyway, if you will be watching as I know you will, what will you hope to hear from "The Second Coming" as he was called by Evan Thomas of Newsweek Magazine (again)? Do you think he will be soaring with rhetorical brilliance with fresh and expansive ideals to take our country forward together? Or will he be...well, you decide. There may be prizes galore for the one with the best answers...

Honestly, I hope he rips off his own face and shows us that he's really a lizard creature underneath and he declares that his people will now commence eating the human race... starting with the vast collection of liberals in attendance.

But keep in mind that I'm an optimist, so this might not actually happen.

P.S. When are going to get to hear about Disney?

BevfromNYC said...

LOL! Funny, that is exactly what I am expecting too!! Or maybe he will destroy everyone at the ceremony with his laser-beam eyes! Or will have a special droning demonstration. I can almost hear him say "Well, House Republicans, meet my little flying friend!" then, **sPaT** he takes out Congress...

FYI - I am working on my travelogue as I'm still basking in the glow...

Bev, I look forward to it. :)

I would love to see Obama drone the audience or blast them with laser-beam eyes. That would be an inauguration worth watching!

Doc Whoa said...

Yuck. I will not be watching the inauguration. Honestly, I hope they all get massive food poisoning and there's only one porta-potty.

BevfromNYC said...

Doc - Eeewwww! But speaking of portopotties, the press has been reporting that the Parks Department is expecting a much smaller crowd this time around because of the amount of potties they have rented. In 2009' they had 5000 or so and this time they will only have 1200. ;-(

Bev, I'm sure there's a joke in there somewhere, but I can't find it... and I'm not looking for it!

I find it funny how there are all these articles about Obama might do in this terms, as if he's got some mystery agenda coming up. He told people what he plans to do with this term... squat. He's going to focus on personal enrichment, that's about it.

I want to see Biden handle the toast. That would be worth a laugh! :)

NPR aired a 2nd term speculation story about how 0bama might deal with the Republican House moving "forward." Their observation was that, so far, only two things have come out of Washington: gridlock and genuine compromise. (I hope you're not eating while you read this. *choke* *cough*)

But for the 2nd term, he has a strategy that proposes a third possibility. 0bama's going to attempt to splinter the House Republicans and drag enough of them over to his side to ram through whatever he wants. He doesn't want to do this, mind you, but overwhelming partisanship compels him.

It's really too bad that those nasty Republicans have caused our idealist President to turn so cynical. He went to Washington with a genuine belief that reasonable people can work together for the good of the country, but now he sees that that isn't how Washington works. *tear*

DUQ, I wouldn't trust Biden anywhere near anything with a heating element. ;-)

DUQ said...

But tryanmax, that would be part of the fun!

tryanmax said...

I dunno, DUQ. Biden is just the right kind of stupid where he'd burn down everything around him without getting so much as scalded himself.

Yipes, don't let Biden make toast!!!

If Biden were a cartoon character, he'd be Daffy Duck...

BevfromNYC said...

Oh, wait Biden already IS a cartoon character...

How about a brief flashback to his first inaugural four years ago courtesy of Groucho Marx!

I think at 0:49 he really starts to articulate his policy!

Come bask in my, uh, greatness.

I don't remember any President going into continuous campaign mode after being re-elected. If that continues to happen I will find it rather frighting, particularly with the present state of the MSM acting as an arm of the party and the Republicans being lead by moribund establishment types.

BevfromNYC said...

If he could only STOP campaigning and actually serve a...well, some dreams are just not meant to be.

Thanks, Andrew. Some of us would rather not have affectionate memories of the V mini-series tarnished. Now if only we could get Faye Grant, Michael Ironside and Marc Singer triangulating from the White House lawn tomorrow. To capture only, though, not to kill.

AndrewPrice said...

Sorry Eric. I had no intention of tarnishing V. I was just being hopeful for a better future. :D

Except he's not reptilian - he's slimier, more amphibian-ian... so, frog-faced with laser eyes?

BevfromNYC said...

Yeah, a giant frog with death-ray laser eyes. But sadly the worst part of this scenario is that Biden will still be just Biden...

Its hilarious that rapper Lupe Fiasco got dragged offstage during an anti-Obama rant.

Someone should lose their job off of this because whoever picked Lupe should have known that he is the most vocally anti-Obama musician this side of Ted Nugent (though he attacks Obama from the left, not the right, calling Obama and the US the world's biggest terrorists).

BevfromNYC said...

Anthony, I read about that. The excuse for pulling him offstage is that he spent 30 minutes on one long rap song about Obama and "the audience" was not satisfied. So they had to "usher him offstage" and out of the building and on to the street.

You are right. Someone should have known what he would do because he doesn't seem to have made it any secret that he was "Anti-Obama". But then he seems more "anti-government" than just "anti-Obama" which is seems even more questionable why you would book him at an Inaugural event which most reflects our government.
