*Shrugs* The Republicans have the House of Representatives, so nothing will happen on the gun control front no matter how many press conferences Obama holds.

Also, I doubt that Sandy Hook turned many people against guns (already strong gun sales skyrocketed after the shooting) so its likely the Democrats are going to pay a price at the ballot box.

I think the college football player with the imaginary dead girlfriend is hilarious. I know sports journalism isn't hard journalism (its more like celeb news) but you'd think someone would have checked.

This is just me spitballing, but if he hasn't been linked to a real woman in three years its quite possible women aren't his cup of tea (not that there's anything wrong with that).

While society is more tolerant nowadays 'gay' and 'football player' aren't really words one ever hears in the same sentence.

Helen Lovejoy: "You were having S-E-X in front of the C-H-I-L-D-R-E-N!"

Krusty: "Sex Cauldron?! I thought they closed that place down!" :-)

Anyway, this business about the football player is indeed hilarious, especially since I had no idea this person existed until roughly 48 hours ago.

And then there's Lance Armstrong. I keep reading the same jokes on my Facebook feed: "It took ball for him to admit that" and so on. :-)

Thinking about girlfriend hoaxes, I remember a guy at my college who met a 'woman' over our college's intranet. They talked for a while, then she invited him to go to her father's cabin with her for the weekend.

We were kind of like 'Wow, that's odd' (casual sex was common on my college, but normally one got a look at the person before committing oneself) but we wished the guy luck as he packed a bag. After a while we figured and her were at the cabin or well on their way.

He comes back after two hours shivering and alone(she had asked him to meet her in a field and not shown up). So he gets online and she is still there, so he asks her what happened and she says she get scared, but if he goes back out there she will meet him this time.

So he goes again but quickly (okay, after half an hour) comes back (she didn't show up).

One of other friends did some digging and found out there was no girl, just a couple of guys who had sat there laughing while our buddy froze (they could see him from the dorm window).

Said investigator stated 'I was thinking about kicking their asses, but that was pretty funny and I wish I'd thought of it' and I couldn't disagree. So it happens, I just don't think one could pull off such a deception for three years.

I don't see what the big deal about Lance Armstrong is. I thought his being a believer in better living through chemistry had been established a long time ago.

Besides, its cycling, not a sport any right thinking American cares about.

T-Rav -

If you read this at any point, any thoughts on Fringe ending? I think it'd be cool if you were able to update your review to reflect the entire series. :-)

T-Rav, if you do do an update, could you wait a week? I watch on Hulu and they delay by 8 days.

Bravo Snape... bravo. LOL!

Anthony, I've written about the gun thing for Monday. I see the whole thing very cynically.

Anthony, There's a lot of talk about him being gay and this girlfriend being a cover.

And you are absolutely right about the sports journalists. They are a total joke. They believe what they want to believe hook, line and sinker with no verification, and then they get outraged when they get exposed. They're also stunning conspiratorial and amazingly good at spinning anything the way they want it.

Once they decide to get you, you can't win. If you remain silent, then you're hiding something. If you speak then you're trying to cover something up. And what is that thing? Nobody knows, but here is our speculation which we will now run with as true.

It's really pretty shameful.

Scott, I love Krusty. He's one of the best written characters ever.

The Lance Armstrong thing means nothing to me. I never saw the guy as a hero so I don't really care now. Plus, as I understand it, the whole sport is full of cheats, so what do I care?

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, You do need to be cautious online, but I still think it's sick if this is true.

As for Armstrong, you're right, cycling isn't really a sport, it's a pastime.

tryanmax, That's great. LOL! I think it would have been more appropriate though if Obama had been wielding the child like a sword.

I take this as a good sign for fracking: Yoko Ono, Sean Lennon, and Mahatma Ghandi's grandson-that-you never-heard-of, Arun are riding a bus through NY state to protest fracking. If Yoko Ono was ever taken seriously, surely it was before I was born.

The name of their little tour is Artists Against Fracking. They do have a LIST of more artists who support their cause. The usual suspects, mostly, along with quite a few you've never heard of (like Arun). Still, as far as I can tell, no one of note is willing to get on the bus.

Scott, I will put that on my to-do list!

tryanmax, seriously? It's called DVR, man.

Looks like Schwarzenegger's The Last Stand flopped despite getting solid reviews.

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy. Maybe he should have gotten Spike Lee to attack the film. Judging by the commercial success of Django Unchained and the Tyler Perry movies, the first thing every smart ad exec should do is bait that jackass into attacking their movie.
