Obama Layin' Pipe?

One facet of Obama’s administration that I have enjoyed is watching liberal hopes and dreams get dashed time and again. It looks like that’s about to happen on the Keystone Pipeline.

For those who haven’t been keeping score, the Democrats have been masters at appearing to embrace environmental causes without actually doing so. Examples of this abound, including Obama’s big happy Copenhagen promise to think about promising to promise to fix everything to a Democratic Congress that was "somehow" unable to pass anything related to carbon. . . or anything else.

The one issue where it seemed like environmentalists would get their wish was the Keystone pipeline. You probably remember this project, but for those who don’t, this pipeline would pump oil from western Canada to Oklahoma, where the wind and oil comes sweeping down the plains to the refineries. Environmentalists hate the idea of this pipeline because they don’t want the US having more oil... there doesn’t really appear to be any other reason for their objection.

Prior to the election, Obama promised environmentalists that he would kill the pipeline and he promised the public at large that he would allow the pipeline. To make this doublespeak work, he kept saying he was just waiting for the environmental impact assessment which the State Department was preparing. That would tell him what to do, and he wink, wink, nudge, nudge’d both sides to let them know the assessment would turn out in their favor.

Well, the assessment is in, and the State Department has concluded that there is no scientific reason to reject the pipeline. Ooops.

That means Obama has no reason to oppose the pipeline. And given the hike in gas prices and the continuing economic struggles of the country, it looks increasingly likely that Obama will allow the pipeline, and thereby sell out his environmental friends once again.

Environmentalists aren’t happy.

The Sierra Club, for example, said they were “outraged” by the State Department report and they suggested wrongdoing by Obama’s State Department: “We’re mystified. . . whether this failure was willful or accidental, this report is nothing short of malpractice.”

Greenpeace warned that “letting corporations get rich off of environmental devastation will make Obama’s climate rhetoric look like the worst kind of greenwashing.” I can see the ad now, with a smelly hippie shedding a single tear as workers on the Obamapipeline throw litter from a car and kill a spotted babyseal owl. As an aside, do you think this “greenwashing” thing is like the Batphone, the Batmobile, the Batbelt and the Batcrapper? Do you think Greenpeace people label everything “green”? “Hand me the greenpaper, Greenhippie, I need to use the greenthrone.” Hmm, well, probably not... I doubt they use paper.

Should be interesting to see which way Obama goes on this, but given his track record though, I’d bet he’s going to do whatever benefits his corporate donors the most. Greentastic!

Andrew: As an aside, do you think this “greenwashing” thing is like the Batphone

Actually, I think it's because "whitewashing" has been declared a crypto-racist term when used in conjunction with the President.

The only green "Greenpeace" is interested in is contributed by wealthy morons. Another reason for a 10 percent surtax on the media, just to make up for all the damage done by celebitards to the country.

If Obama goes ahead with the pipeline I'll be surprised. It will be one of the few things he's done that contradicts the notion of his implementing a deliberate policy of national destruction. Then again, since he likely believes in AGW, he may be okaying it just to watch us burn to death in the super heated atmosphere. ;)

Kelly, I couldn't resist. :)

K, I suspect Obama will do whatever his crony-masters want him to do. I'm not sure if his people want the pipeline or not, but I suspect they probably do -- if there's union jobs at stake.

Also, I would think that he probably got a LOT of donations from the right people after he threatened to kill the pipeline in his first term. I don't see the enviro's matching that offer. And it really does seem like they bizarrely expect him to act on principle,.

But you never know with Obama.

LOL! On the idea of him letting us all burn to death. Too slow. :P

We know Bill Clinton sure did lay a lot of pipe.
So why not Obama.

Or should I say, what Bill Clinton did feminism. Obama is doing for the environmental movement.

The way to look at the environmental wacko's is simple. No progress at any cost, if you can reverse it. They want us to use windmills, you can't get more backward than that. They were outmoded in the 19th century. Next thing you know they will want get rid of indoor plumbing(I'm sure that plan is in a file cabinet somewhere).

Andrew...I always ask myself on these type decisions "Hmmm...What would the 'Wizard of Omaha' do?" Well, since Buffett et al are invested in ancillary to energy companies, then they have been 'advising' (IOW, green(backs) baby!) Obama and his flying monkeys on their long-term interests.

On a side note, I've always wondered where these billions of 'stimulus' dollars ended up. I bet there are numerous extremely wealthy union and activist leaders who probably have accounts in Switzerland and the Cayman's. So...we will probably never get the massive protests against The Won as long as he's in office. What's a few billion between friends if it allows you to go totally against their loyal dues-paying membership without fear of negative press?!

Ahh....It's good to be King

..and anything less than Journalistic slobbering, hyperventilating, miracle-witnessing, speaking-in- tongues adulation is considered raaaaacist.

Not to mention bitter and clinging.

Am I the only one that is depressed?

Greenpeace is an extremist organization (unsurprising, most though not all single issue groups are) which is completely out of touch with the public. I doubt it makes most people's top ten lists in terms of areas of concern.

If one wants to force a politician to do something, its wise to get public opinion on your side so that doing it is in his or her best interest.

I don't know if Obama will betray Greenpeace, but he can afford to. The public won't care and the environmental movement doesn't have anywhere else to go.

BevfromNYC said...

Obama is never running for anything again, so he personally has nothing to lose by approving the pipeline. However, my guess is that he will delay it as long as he can. Probably there will be a request for a second thru fourth opinion right up to the 2014 election cycle.

Btw the way, the spotted baby seal owl went extinct. I believe GWB ate the last one or Cheney shot it or something like that...

Andrew -

Who does your graphics? :-)

Look I'll go out on a limb here and say that, yes, there are legit risks with regards to the pipeline and one needn't be associated with Greenpeace to admit it.

BUT...

...there are risks associated with any project of this scope AND if we don't do it, someone else will. Or the oil will be transported by truck/rail/etc. which have their own risks.

So we might as well keep this "in-house" and do it ourselves.

T-Rav said...

No doubt he'll give the contract to one of his friends in Big Business, then secretly subsidize the project while publicly denouncing it and warning said corporation "don't get on my bad side." It's kinda scary, how predictable Obama is at this point.

rlaWTX said...

Unfortunately, we really need TOTUS's administration to allow some refineries to be built. Refinery closures and maintenance shut-downs are HUGE contributors to these latest gas price jumps. Our refinery infrastructure is woefully inadequate...

does spotted seal owl taste like chicken?

BevfromNYC said...

rlaWTX - the spotted baby seal owl kinda' tastes (or tasted since it is now extinct ((Thank you very much, GWB!)) like a chicken that has eaten a whale with just a hint of krill...and lemon. Oh, wait, that is how you PREPARE spotted baby seal owl.

Max, Indoor plumbing causes polar bears to die. So yeah, we should ban it. LOL!

On your Clinton point, I have to say that the more I watch what is going on, the more convinced I am that Obama is a fake ideologue who is robbing the treasury for his donors and is cheating all of his followers. I'm kind of enjoying it actually.

AndrewPrice said...

Patriot, I have had the same thought actually... where did all that stimulus money go? It wasn't spent on anything that actually hit the economy, so it must have ended up in personal coffers. We know, for example, that $5 million went to pay off Hillary's campaign debt, so I would bet there are a bunch more like that out there.

AndrewPrice said...

98ZJUSMC, Nope, you're not the only one. Things are very depressing at the moment.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, You're right. Greenpeace and most of the rest of the official environmental movement are fringers who are totally out of touch with the public. Every once in a while, they stumble upon something the public also likes, but unless they do, they have no influence. And I see no pull at all within the public to stop this pipeline.

The reason Obama might go with what they want is to keep them donating to his party, but this report reeks of the kind of report which is meant to kill off a reason for Obama to oppose the project so that he can now flip flop and "reluctantly" support it on behalf of his business donors. I guess we'll see though, but my money is on Obama allowing this now.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Believe it or not, this was the second report. The first report said, "we don't see a problem with it," so the enviros demanded Obama have the State Department look at the environmental effects on Canada. The State Department has now said, that since Canada will do this with or without us, there's no environmental impact from our involvement.

You could be right that he will delay this beyond 2014, but my guess is that he will need to make a decision against before then if he wants to keep the enviros happy or a decision in favor if he wants to stop China from getting the oil.

I did now know that about the spotted baby seal owl. Bush and Cheney... such monsters! LOL!

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, Haven't you heard? If we allow this, then we all die... eventually from global sunstroke.

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, I think that American don't like high gas prices and they see the connection between this and gas prices and Americans see no reason to object to this.

AndrewPrice said...

Scott, I usually do my own graphics, except when I hire out to a source in south Florida. LOL! I take it you like this one?

On the risk idea, there are risks with everything and there is virtually no risk with a pipeline. There are billions of miles of pipeline already operating all over the world and they rarely if ever cause problems, and even then, the problems they cause are minor. It's much riskier to put this stuff on trucks or on ships. And if the US doesn't take this oil, then China will and that increases the risk of environmental damage.

Plus, this will help our economy a lot and it's safer to bring this oil by pipeline than it is to bring in oil from Saudi Arabia by boat.

What Greenpeace is upset about is that cheaper oil means less "alternative energy." That's their only complaint.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, That's pretty much what I expect too. I'd say to look for a Warren Buffett to suddenly buy a pipe company and then they will nearly miraculously win the contract after getting a massive "green loan."

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, That's actually the real reason the price of gas is going up. There is plenty of oil, there just aren't very many refineries.

Spotted baby seal owl tastes like Delta-Smelt-fed polar bear, which takes remarkably like sloth... or chicken. :)

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, LOL! Yes, that's exactly what they tasted like! :D

And yes, darn that GWB! LOL!

to be honest, I had actually heard a few rumors of some of that happening when he was with Tiger Woods and Beyonce the other weekend while Michelle and her posse were scouting out the next ten million dollar vacay on the dime of the two per centers. ;)

Tennessee Jed said...

On the pipeline risk angle, didn't Brosnan and Sophie Marceau prove that there is a substantial risk ... at least in the movies.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, How can you be tired of the pipeline? Embrace the pipeline... love the pipeline. The pipeline is your friend.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, Yep, James Bond proved the dangers of pipeline. So did Die Hard 4, which shows that pipelines are like nuclear bombs waiting to explode.

Are you implying Obama is enriching himself? I can't imagine!

BevfromNYC said...

Okay, so Obama has shut down tours in the White House until further notice. Is this just childish or what? What next - fence off the Lincoln memorial and close the Smithsonian? But what about the children???

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, That is childish. And "fence off" isn't the right word because you could still see it. He's going to have it covered in a tarp.

rlaWTX said...

so - why are WH tours suspended? I understand why in 9/2001 - until they spent unpteen bazillion dollars on the new tourist entrance...
so now why???

Andrew - don't say that - he'll just have to ask for a bigger TARP! lol

BevfromNYC said...

No!! Not another TARP! Uncle, uncle! Okay, you win! I will pay more taxes!!! Please don't take away our WH tours??? How will we survive???

It is like a small child stamping his feet and taking his dolly and dishes and going home because he didn't get his way.

And imagine! It is as if they are doing it on purpose, but that is just not possible, is it? ;-)

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, They cancelled the White House tours because they know that upset tourists makes for good press coverage.

A bigger TARP! LOL!

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, I'm shocked, shocked that Obama would try to hurt people just to get his policies in place. I "never"* would have guessed that.

* For never, read: I'm not really surprised the jerk would do that.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, As for TARP, don't see that we need it? The Washington Monument might fall over if people can look at it during sequestration. It's too big to fall!!

AndrewPrice said...

I have HORRIBLE NEWS...

Apparently, sequestration has KILLED Hugo Chavez.

Oh, the tragedy...

BevfromNYC said...

See, Obama was right! Sequestration kills!

also btw - wasn't it Michael Moore who was touting the wonders of the Cuban medical system? Maybe if Chavez had Obamacare, he would have survived.

{is it mean of me to hope his death was particularly painful? I am afraid karma may bite me, so I am putting this in brackets which means I really didn't say it.}

btw - "Too big to fall" LOL!

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Yep... sequestration kills. Sad.

As for karma, I phoned Karma.com and they said that in this instance, they'll issue a waiver. :)

BevfromNYC said...

But then again, the Repubs can put this in the "plus" column for sequestration!

CNN headline-
Indoor Plumbing Causes Global Warming, women and minorities hardest hit.

I think you have a point Andrew. It would explain part of his behavior. Is he still doing that? I know he went nuts in the first term.
One good thing came out of it. He brought the folly of the alternative energy market in the open. It's too bad people don't understand why.

AndrewPrice said...

K, That does help strangely.

AndrewPrice said...

Max, Yep. It turns out that indoor plumbing has caused all of our problems... disease, homelessness, ugliness in children.

On Obama, I think he's actually easiest to explain as a crony. That's pretty much the only way his policy decisions make sense.

Maybe this is why those enviro-weenies wanted to limit our toilet paper use to 2 squares!
