Tomorrow is Palm Sunday which, depending on how you celebrate, is the beginning of the holiest week of the year for Christians. And on Monday at sundown will be the first night of the eight days of Passover for the Jews. There is also some pagan element where we await the arrival of a large invisible bunny rabbit to deliver chocolate eggs to good little boys and girls. So let's open up the floor and feel free to share how you celebrate. Do you do anything special? What do you think of the new purple Peeps?

I am incredibly angered and saddened by the assholes in Georgia that executed a baby because the mother whom they were robbing didn't have any money. I cannot imagine what the parents are going through, the light of their lives extinguished by a couple cruel, stupid thugs.

West told WAWS-TV that the older boy pointed a handgun at her during the encounter Thursday.
"He said, 'I'm gonna kill you if you don't give me your money,' and I said, 'I swear I don't have any,'" she told WAWS-TV of the encounter.
She said they wouldn't accept no for an answer.
"He says, 'Well, I'm gonna kill your baby,'" she told WAWS-TV, crying. "I put my arms over my baby and he shoves me. And then he shot my baby right in the head."

Reminds me of another story that happened roughly two decades ago, the closest shooting to where I live. A guy broke into an unoccupied home, called for a pizza, then murdered the deliveryman because he didn't have much money on him, not letting the fact the deliveryman's pregnant girlfriend was in the car bother him.
The story is a favorite of mine because it ends on a heartwarming note. A few years into his prison sentence, the guy was gangraped so viciously (he required a lot of stitches) he was hospitalized and the story made the Washington Post (rape in prison is like cockroaches eating each other, no one cares unless something extraordinary happens).
Hopefully the Georgia goons will get a similar reception and it will get covered by the national media so people can point and laugh at them the rest of their miserable lives (assuming the state doesn't put the one old enough to be tried as an adult out of the world's misery).
Moving on, my daughters and I are helping a local church (not our church, but the church the troop meets in) hold their Easter egg event today (our local church is also holding such an event). Two hours after that my oldest and I are going to sell Girl Scout cookies for four hours at a local mall.
Its going to be less relaxing than my Saturday usual, but relaxing and getting stuff done are at odds, so not relaxing on weekends is okay now and again.
I guess everybody does Easter stuff on Saturday so that kids/parents don't have to choose between Easter festivities and Sunday school.
I'm with Andrew on this one - I'm a sucker for Cabury eggs.
And this is the time of the year when all the supermarkets set up their perfunctory "Jewish endcap" with Manischewitz, matzo (or matzah), and my favorite... the Joyva jelly rings! I swear these will be the death of me.
You can usually get these in any mall candy store but the supermarkets put out the bigger boxes. Of course, the supermarkets have half an aisle for Easter candy, even though most of it's the same candy you can buy the other 364 days of the year, but egg-shaped! :-D
Anthony, I haven't heard about either of those stories, but it is sad. Honestly, that's exactly what the death penalty is for.
Scott, Cadbury is the only Easter candy that gets my attention. Otherwise, it's all the same to me. Never had the Jewish stuff you are talking about.

There is only one thing I don't like about Passover and maybe ScottD can concur is Gefilte fish. It's like the eleventh plague! Well and Mogan David wine...
Bev, I've never had that either, but I hear a lot of complaints.
As an aside, I'm thinking we should take a week off for Easterover-rabbitseason-NCAA basketball. Any thoughts?

The Joyva products aren't "Jewish" per se - they can be (and are) enjoyed by gentiles! - but they're kosher, so they have that going for them.
I agree with Bev - gefilte fish isn't really my thing.
I just got back from doing two things I swore I'd never do:
1.) I applied to Publix, which is the big grocery chain in FL, and
2.) re-applied to Target, where I worked during high school.
Why? Because my current job only offers 15 +/- hours a week, and I need twice that. And the crappy thing about working for a mom and pop operation is, you guessed it, when mom and pop leave town for a week (like, say, next week), I don't get paid!
I'm paying for college out of pocket and I'd like to move out of my parents' house one day. I can't do it with 15 hours a week.
So I shall swallow my pride and go back to retail, if need be. It's money.

I went to a seder once. I think there was gefilte fish. I think I liked it, too. But I like everything. I want Andrew Zimmern's job.
