It's good to know that Eric Holder and the DOJ are hot on the trail of this latest scrouge. No, it's not the case of Lois Lerner's missing hard drives that just happened to contain the emails involved in the exact time...well you know. No, this is much more important and could change everything. Yeah, an outhouse as a hate crime. Stop the presses! The horror! How could this happen? Is there no shame?
Yeah, this float was in a parade in the annual 4th of July parade in Norfolk, Nebraska. Some woman who shall remain nameless told the Lincoln Journal Star that “I’m angry and I’m scared...This float was not just political; this was absolutely a racial statement.”
I am guessing that this political cartoon by Mike Luckovitch was just political...
And then there's this composite of all the love shown to Bush...
Yeah, so if political satire is now open to be investigated as a "hate crime" by the DOJ then well, so much for free speech and all that. No wonder the comedians have been running scared for six years now...
Feel free to expand on any topic of the day. Growing anti-Semitism is always a good place to start.
UPDATE: This is a photo I took of an advert in the subway car I was in yesterday. I was kind of flummoxed as to why there needed to be disclaimer by the MTA that "...displaying this ad does not imply...endorsement of any views expressed" and that the disclaimer took up about 1/4 of the ad space. Any ideas?

An outhouse is a hate crime? Wow. We should find this lady and remove any bathrooms from her house/apartment to protect her delicate sensitivities. After all, I wouldn't want a toilet laughing at her.
People being parodying stuff and being offended by parodies is fine and good, what is disturbing is the fact that Justice Department sent out a team to deal with something they should never have been involved with.
An outhouse with a zombie Obama outside of it isn't racist nor is it a threat.
Anthony, Yeah, I don't get how it's a threat or racist either except anything criticism attached to Obama or Holder is deemed racist just on its face. Which makes this extra disturbing. The guy who made it said it was a likeness of himself, not Obama and that it was made because of his frustrations with the VA. You know, If we now can't lampoon our elected officials, then what's the point? It's what we've been doing for 240+ years. It really is the foundation of our liberty...to make fun of the President without fear of prosecution.

Bev, you have no idea. Also, nasty attacks are nothing new. Look no further than this Reason.tv clip using attacks made by the Jefferson and Adams camps in the 1800 election. (Length: 1min 42sec)

Kit - I love that clip. Those guys didn't mince words, did they? And this was really before we had political parties. PACs, campaign managers or Ad agencies doing the dirty work. Of course we have been doing this for centuries (well, in the US anyway). I think humans have been doing this since the beginning of time which is why the various and sundry leaders/monarch/popes/potentates would regularly jail and/or execute those who lampooned them.
without the details of how DOJ must respond to a complaint, I'll hold my fire until I see if they "seriously" investigate this. Still, the double standard rears its ugly head once again. Holder is so blatant in his handling of the DOJ he reminds me of the late crook John Mitchell. In fact, the parallels with Nixon's administration are numerous. If the Republicans gain control of both houses, I wouldn't bet against impeachment hearings. Without a fair and independent investigative press pressuring for a special prosecutor, it would likely be a political disaster for the Republicans who would be painted (again) as racist and vindictive.
You never know, though. If Uncle Joe Biden had to take over the oval office the last year, it might further fracture the Democrat party and keep Team Clinton fro arising from the ashes.
If we ever needed more proof of why the government governs best that governs least, the Social Security Adminstrations $300 million boondoggle on new systems to cope with the staggering rise in disability claims fills the bill according to an A.P. story in today's Knoxville News Sentinel. It is so incompetent, it is beyond belief.
You know, I'm actually a little surprised the DOJ itself went after this guy. Usually, when the peons backtalk, it can rely on the enlightened nannies amongst us to shame them into apologies, or get the Southern Poverty Law Center to do a study of Cornhusker racism and its effects, or something. I guess they needed to remind us that they can intervene directly if they want.
T-Rav - I think you are right. I think that is a way of reminding us that the DOJ is watching us ...stupid really.
I'm sure we Huskers are deserving of special scorn from the administration. After all, we scared Ben-idict Nelson into retirement after he sold out on O-care, plus he lost that one electoral vote that he split off in 2008. It all just shows how racist we hicks are.
Cornhusker racism is the worst... well, except for Boston racism, or NYC racism, or Philly racism or generic liberal racism.
"Boston racism, or NYC racism, or Philly racism or generic liberal racism."
All Democrat voters?
Ok, let's assume it was racist. So what? It would still be protected as free speech. I almost hope they do try something. I can't imagine even a liberal judge putting up with it.
the famous "cornhole compromise
I'm with Kochcat. So what if a person is a racist, big hairy deal....it's a free country...the media, the Right, the left all have their "names" they lay on people to guilt them or shame them....Hell, if you disagree with someone you're racist, a gay hater, a woman hater, etc...of course, it may just be that you disagree with them...if Holder wants to investigate racists, let me suggest Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton as starters. These two Bozos are great for labeling any person of colour who disagrees with them as a "self hating black", or worse an "Uncle Tom".
You guys are forgetting that it is a thought crime to disagree with liberals or to think thoughts of which they don't approve.
If it was in a public parade put on by the city, then I could see a problem. One that should be handled by the local city council.
Interestingly, the most recent news story I can find on this is from July 14. Which might mean the DOJ dropped the matter... or not. Who knows?
Isn't this the kind of stuff Thoreau wrote about in the 19th Century? Jail me physically, but you can never jail my mind or my conscience...something along those lines.
Kit - The point is not that the DOJ "dropped the matter", the point is that they took up the matter at all. Look, are we really to the point that one person is offended by a float at parade for its political overtones and the local/state/federal government has to investigate the float maker for his intent? It goes beyond just political speech, but into things like successfully banning a large wooden cross erected on private land to memorialize the dead soldiers erected by VFW in the '40's. Why? Because someone could see it on public land...seriously. How have we come to this point where one person's beliefs are so tenuous and sensitive that they demand that a 70+ year old memorial be torn down because the sight of it somehow harms them...and they win?
[[end rant]]
Bev,
Calm down, Bev, calm down. I agree. This is bad for the DOJ to get involved on this.
I just found it interesting that not even conservative sites seemed to be offering any updates on the story since July 14.
Note: The memorial case eventually resulted in a win for the VFW when the Supreme Court ruled 5-4, again slapping down the 9th Circuit.
[takes deep, cleansing breath...]
Everything ok, Bev?
Sorry, I fainted from all the oxygen going to my brain...;-) It has been said that conservatives do not get enough oxygen to our brains and now I see why! Actually, I am updating my post with a new photo that I took yesterday and is the source of my frustration...
I for one don't get why everyone gets so offended all the time...waaaay back during the 1st Gulf War the base chaplain came down to our bomb dump and told us that he was going around trying to discourage people from telling "Iraqi jokes" because it was dehumanizing...our old chief was sitting there with a cigarette and he said, "GD padre!, we're carpet bombing the poor bastards, what's more dehumanizing that that?" Just goes to show ya, it could always be worse...
Apparently Holder prefers being Obama's political muscle and would rather intimidate law abiding citizens than administer justice.
Just like Obama he has violated his oath several times now and has no respect for the Rule of Law.
No, Holder wants a Rule of Force to impose Obama's leftist ideology.
That's what he does when he's not race baiting.
Bravo zulu, Critch!
I'm thankful I never encountered a chaplain like that because I would've given him an earful. Respectfully, of course. :)
