Open Thread

It's just been one of those days. Anyone have anything topics to discuss today? I've got nothing...

My wife and I inherited a salvage yard with over 100 cars when her father died. We are trying to close it out by having the cars crushed for scrap..the problem is the tires. Up until the late 90s a company from Illinois paid us for the tires. They recycled them by burning them in coal in power plants. There is a lot of energy in a tire. Somewhere along the line the EPA et al said that was bad for the environment, so now I have to pay someone to cut the tires up and bury them in a landfill..go figure. The local MO DNR tells me it was the Clinton administration that killed the burning of tires for energy...figures...

I am so tired of the government up my butt every day....

I find the idiocy of the BLM protestors to be astounding, though not unexpected. The shooting in Oklahoma seemed on the verge of creating a pretty massive amount of sympathy. I can't see any reason at all that he was shot and I think the cop needs to be tried for murder. Had Charlotte not happened, I could see this incident actually leading to something. It was sickening.

Then the shooting happened in Charlotte. Now they're rioting, killing people and beating people.

Sympathy vanishes.

Andrew, it seems these instances where a black person is shot by a cop happen in pairs. Pretty sure that's a media construct. The pattern seems to always include one shooting where the police action seems suspect and one where the police appear justified, and the BLM protesters always react to the wrong one.

Or we could talk about Skittles, because that's political now.

Andrew,

I agree completely. Also, while I'm not sure what happened in Charlotte (its odd cops are sitting on the footage which they claim is exculpatory) hurting people and looting and burning doesn't help anything. All the goons involved ought to serve hard time.

That's a great observation. I've been wondering about this.

If I were a conspiratorial thinker, I would think that some white racist is behind this to drain whatever sympathy is left with the black protest movements. But I'm not and I don't buy that.

What I think instead is that BLM are an alliance of racists, thugs, and ideological revolutionaries. They don't care about good black people, they care about violent young black men. Why? I suspect it's because they are hoping to make blacks militant to "bring about the revolution" as the left always says, and because I suspect the "solution" they want is not that the police stop shooting innocent people but that the police stop policing "the black community." If you protest the clear outrages, then you might get a solution that diffuses the issue and they don't want that, so they protest the cases that make solution impossible.

Alternatively, they are just stupid.

Whatever the issue, I find it disturbing on many levels. I don't want the police shooting anyone who doesn't absolutely need to be shot. I think the situations in Oklahoma and Minnesota are outrages that should never happen in a free country to anyone of any race. But I also refuse to let these people dictate their asshole ideology as a solution.

Anthony, I don't understand that either. If they have something exculpatory, they need to show it.

BTW, I'm not saying they didn't protest Tulsa. What I'm saying is that the focus/energy always seems to be on the undeserving cases.

Hey everybody: here's your Holy Crap! moment for the day.

Clinton: ‘Why aren’t I 50 points ahead?’ of Trump

... they care about violent young black men.

This isn't so different from the way Islamists lionize suicide bombers.

The leftist response isn't very different in each case, either. "If we condemn their violence, that may offend them and they could react violently."

I just got my favorite gun back from the gunsmith, I'm cleaning with Liberal Tears and talking nice to it...

They're charging the officer in Tulsa with manslaughter. That's good. It makes sense too. Her defense is awful, which is that she thought he was on drugs and then she lied about a couple key facts.

I would be surprised if her attorney doesn't argue post traumatic stress syndrome or something similar.

BTW, Cam Newtown continues to impress me. Me made the point that we should all agree that people getting shot in the streets is wrong. Agreed. But he didn't try to make it a white v. black thing. He said that everyone needs to take responsibility for their own side of this:

"My big thing is holding people accountable— no matter what the race, no matter what the gender is, no matter what the age is."

"I'm an African-American and I'm not happy how the justice has been dealt with over the years, and the state of oppression in our community, but we also as black people have to do right by ourselves. We can't be hypocrites."

"From being a black person, there is a lot of black people that don't do right by black people, so you can't be a hypocrite and just say 'Oh a white man or a white police officer killed a black man.' Now that's still messed up and I'm not sitting up here and saying that's ok.

"I am saying we have to have a clear eye vision on both sides and starts with everyone holding each other accountable and policing yourselves."

Bingo. Smart man.

Not to throw suspicion (I'm a due process guy) but they pulled this in Chicago, as well.
