Random Thoughts

Some random thoughts.

● Let's start with the NFL. The NFL is back and the same people who spent the summer pouring hate upon the NFL are continuing right along. The NFL didn't care about Cam Newton's concussion... except they did. Yawn. The refs blew calls so the games are illegitimate! Refs have always blown calls, it's part of the game. Yawn. Some college kid who isn't eligible to play in the NFL was injured playing for free in college and that's an outrage! Disband the NFL! Yawn.

Then there's this. These same journalists want Colin Kaepernick's disloyal protest to spread to become some new race war in the US. It isn't happening, but they are pushing it. I love this quote:
"Kaepernick’s 49ers aren’t scheduled to play until Monday night. Clearly, though, the movement he’s begun, with actions, words, and his own paycheck, is starting to flower across the entire NFL."
Really? Other than Kaepernick, one Bronco kneeled, one Chief and three Titans and two Patriots gave the black power salute, and the Chiefs and Seahawks locked arms in unity during the national anthem. That leaves 26 of 32 teams with no protest at all. It also means that only 114 players out of 1696 (4%) engaged in any sort of display and only 8 out of 1696 (0.4%) engaged in a negative protest. Does that count as "starting to flower"? Only in the mind of someone who wants it to happen.

● Interestingly, I think that this is a horrible thing for Hillary, especially the guys doing the black power salute. To a lot of whites, that reeks of the Nazi salute in terms of intent and with Hillary and the Democrats playing footsie with Black Lives Matters and the false racism industry, I think that every NFL player who tosses out the black power salute sends more voters to Trump. I actually know some white female liberals (core Hillary types) who are calling BLM a "hate group" now.

● The other thing killing Hillary right now is the new season of Obamacare taking shape. This albatross hangs around the neck of Democrats like her, and attitudes are getting worse regarding Obamacare. And why not: the number of uninsureds has stopped shrinking, the insurance is ridiculously expensive, insurers are dropping out, a huge number of counties have no competition at all -- a couple have no offerings at all, hospitals have found their reimbursements falling from 80% to 60%, etc. etc. People are not at all happy.

● I really am starting to wonder about Hillary's health. She collapsed again this week and claims she was just overheated had pneumonia. I don't know if her problem is in the brain or the heart, but I know a developing disabling disease when I see one. She's in trouble.

● You know you're in trouble when you throw your friends to the wolves. That's why it's interesting that Hillary continues to attack ally Matt Lauer for his debate performance and the Democrats are attacking former ally Aetna for ruining Obamacare. Signs of impending doom.

The symbolism of Hillary's collapse couldn't have been worse for her. She collapsed at Ground Zero on 9/11 due to health issues. The juxtaposition is overwhelming.

AndrewPrice said...

That's a good point. It's a bad video too. She doesn't just look like someone who is worn out and can't stand anymore or even like someone who just passed out. She looks like someone whose body jerked and then she lost muscle coordination. It's a creepy kind of collapse that looks like something serious has gone wrong.

The Hillary 9/11 collapse is her 47% moment in that it indicates that one of the most damaging things opponents have said about her is true.

Four years (at least) of being under the dominion of Vladimir Putin and the alt right is going to be interesting.

*Shrugs* America became doomed to a bad president one way or the other once Trump won the nomination. It will survive.

tryanmax said...

The Hillary camp, including her media sycophants, are totally blowing it, too. The latest stories are all about how various former presidents were also sick during their campaigns and presidencies. In other words, they're telling everyone that the story they waved off as a conspiracy theory for weeks is true.

(Also, this is the year "conspiracy theory" has lost it's meaning. While it's always had connotations of "crackpot theory" that secondary meaning has officially taken over. Who conspired to make Hillary sick?)

"May you live in interesting times."

If Trump wins (I still say "if" despite his odds having just skyrocketed b/c, as the experts say, nothing before October counts in a presidential election) I expect him to have some of the highest approval numbers any president has ever seen. This is regardless whether he is a "good" or a "bad" president, whatever those terms mean. This is because, above all things, Trump is persuasive.

He also has a plan nobody is looking for. To wit, nobody has asked how he plans to make Mexico pay for the wall. They just complain that it can't be done. Trump says he has a "secret" plan to deal with ISIS. Nobody is hunting for the plan, they just complain that he's not sharing. Personally, I'd be very interested to know Trump's plans, but I don't have the time or resources of a journalist. Those that do apparently are less interested than me.

The only thing I think I do know is that Trump's plans involve psychology. That's because he's said so. When asked about strategy, he used the word four times. (People thought he was talking about cyber, whatever that is, because that's what he made them think.) If Trump's plans involve psychology, that probably means he intends to make Americans think we're winning even if we aren't. Heck, we might even get sick of winning and decide to lose a couple just because.

P.S. Trump also knows words, and he has the best words. It sounds laughable, but how often do we laugh at things that are true? All the time. For some reason, humans get very emotional about facts.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, I think the more interesting question will be if the Democrats get nervous enough to try to replace her before November.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I agree that Hillary's people are doing it wrong. The thing about lies is that when you lie about something that is as bad as it can get, then people only see you as a liar. But when you lie about something that could actually be much worse than it initially appears, then people assume that you're lying to cover up the worst case. And when you lie about something that could be worse in a vast number of ways, they begin to imagine a generic worst case scenario... and that's bad.

That's what they're doing here. If they wanted this to go away, they should have said, "She has ___, and it's controlled and under treatment."

AndrewPrice said...

On Trump, his two biggest mistakes as a candidate are that he didn't run on the left and a lack of experience.

On experience, he is already showing an incredible amount of growth in terms of how to say the things he's saying.

On running on the left, the problem with running on the right is that the MSM automatically turns against him (they would otherwise be praising him endlessly) and the conservative right doesn't like people like actors going into politics.

tryanmax said...

Mistakes or calculated risks?

AndrewPrice said...

Probably should have said "flaws."

Anthony said...

Tryanmax,

Trump varies between saying A) he has a secret plan to quickly eliminate ISIS B) he will order the military to make a foolproof plan to quickly eliminate ISIS and C) he will combine the military's future plan and his plan.

Who could the media talk to for more details about plans which change depending on the mood Trump is in and who he is talking to?

http://www.cnbc.com/2016/09/07/trump-i-dont-give-a-specific-isis-plan-because-i-dont-want-enemies-to-know-it.html

Donald Trump brushed off his lack of a specific policy to defeat the Islamic State terror group on Wednesday night, claiming he had a plan but did not want to broadcast it to the United States' enemies.
"I have a substantial chance of winning. If I win, I don't want to broadcast to the enemy exactly what my plan is," the Republican nominee said at an NBC-hosted commander-in-chief forum in New York. The gathering was the first time both Trump and his rival Hillary Clinton have shared the same stage in this election, albeit at separate times.

In a military speech this week, Trump said he would ask generals to give him a plan within 30 days to defeat ISIS. Trump said Wednesday he would consider using a combination of his own plan and proposals from the generals to fight the terror group.

-------

Trump also had few specifics to offer when asked by a veteran about what he would do in the Middle East once ISIS was defeated. After a rambling answer about what he deemed the Obama administration's failures in the Middle East, he pledged to "take the oil" to prevent groups like ISIS gaining control of the resource.

"You would leave a certain group behind and you would take various sections where they have the oil," he said, not specifying if that group would consist of American troops.

I couldn't say, but I'm pretty sure "nobody" is the wrong answer.

Anthony Just for the sake of argument, what are Clinton's specific "plans"? I have not seen any substative policy wonkness from her either.

My own random thought: I recently watched Netflix's Stranger Things. Trailer: LINK

It is awesome.

tryanmax said...

Kit, loved that show. There seems to be a trend of sci-fi movies and now this show that lean heavily on 80s motifs. I'm thinking Super 8, Midnight Special, The Force Awakens, among others.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev et al, On Trump, he's doing what has become the norm. He mentions his top secret plan to cause a miracle and never gives specifics because there is no plan. None of them ever have a plan. It's the triumph of the sales pitch over the product. That's become our politics.

AndrewPrice said...

I haven't seen Stranger Things.

tryanmax said...

In 68, Nixon also had a secret plan to end the Vietnam war.

Kit said...

Andrew,

It is worth watching.

Kit said...

I'm serious. Stranger Things is great.

EPorvaznik said...

Yup, occasional music anachronisms aside, Stranger Things indeed awesome.

>>I think the more interesting question will be if the Democrats get nervous enough to try to replace her before November.>>

Replacement candidate Elizabeth Warren genuinely disturbs me, almost as much as President Hillary Clinton.

EPorvaznik said...

Re. Kaepernick/NFL sit/kneel-downs, the otherwise entertaining Baltimore Oriole Adam Jones now saying the only reason MLB players haven't joined their football brethren is because baseball is a white man's game. Dang, all those White Latinos, too, right, Jonesy?

Eric, What I think is funny is that most of these guys are totally backpedaling. They're discovering that people don't like what they said and now they're trying to get out of it by saying, "I didn't mean any disrespect" and "I support the police." One of the idiots actually said, "I didn't mean anything by it."

Well, no on ever accused NFL players of being overly smart.

AndrewPrice said...

Warren troubles me too, especially because I think she might win. Right now, it's a bit like a game of chicken. If either side pulls their loser, then they will win. The one exception, I think, is if the Democrats go with Biden. So I'm kind of hoping Hillary sticks it out.

BevfromNYC said...

EP - It is too late in the game to change candidates. And if they did, it would have to be Sanders or bump Kaine up to the top spot. Neither is likely. Unless something really is comes out that Clinton is so sick she is unable to serve if elected. Heck, William Henry Harrison lasted a month before he died of pneumonia, so it's not like it hasn't happened before. But Hillary will demnand to wheeled in on a stretcher to be inaugurated if it comes to that...she's not going to be replaced willingly.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, This is where we need a Frankenstein to blend them together into SanderKaine! Tell me that's not a super villain name!

BTW, I heard that Chuck Schumer, has "pneumonia" now too. I'm starting to wonder if you get this "pneumonia" from alcohol.

EPorvaznik said...

Yup Licensed to Illary's whole professional life has been spent in a bloodlust for power. Only way she's going off the ticket is via a stretcher.

tryanmax said...

That's an interesting question, what would happen with a last minute Hillary replacement? I think it all comes down to who might perform well in a debate. I don't know who that would be.

tryanmax said...

Alternative solution for Hillary: just stuff the pantsuit with new lizards.

EPorvaznik said...

Lizards? Why you gotta go and give V's Diana, John and Martin a bad name like that???

AndrewPrice said...

Just throwing this out there. While a handful of guys were throwing out the black power salute and "didn't mean anything by it," here's a Tennessee Titan who scored tons of respect from me:

Titans linebacker Avery Williamson went through with his plans to wear red, white and blue cleats to commemorate 9/11 on Sunday, despite the NFL threatening to fine him.

Williamson had initially backed down when the NFL told him special cleats were not allowed on 9/11, but after the Port Authority Police, who lost 37 officers on 9/11, offered to pay his fine, Williamson wore the cleats to honor them.

“I just felt like I got so much support across the country, and especially when the New York and New Jersey police unions said that they would pay my fine, that really meant a lot,” Williamson said, “so I felt like if I didn’t wear them, I just wouldn’t have felt good about it. I felt like I had to do that, just for myself and to represent the people that were lost and the people that do their jobs every day to protect us. I feel like it was just a duty.” ... He now plans to auction off the cleats and donate the money to a veterans’ organization, and he said he is also working on treating some veterans to a game.

AndrewPrice said...

Hillary is powered by lizards? Scary. Makes sense. But scary.

BTW, I am now seeing articles on the left that maybe the Democrats need to meet to "consider" replacing her. She's done. Will she accept it though?

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew - Even WaPo published a Op/Ed about how even though they had thought the Repubs/Basket of Deplorables had been ridiculous questioning the Hillary's bad cough/amnesia excuse, maybe there was something to the whole health issue.

I'm sorry, Jersey. You said something, but I couldn't make it out through the idiocy.

On the NFL...

You know, I find it bizarre that they keep saying that these a-holes want to start a conversation. They really don't. If they wanted a conversation, they would hear all the evidence that their cause is a lie. But they won't accept that. So they say they want a conversation but they call anyone who doesn't toe the line a racist. Welcome to the left.

By the way, all of four players (2 Rams and 2 49ers) did it tonight. Now we're up to 11 players. 1,685 to go. You can't wish an actual movement into existence.

I saw a couple of Miami Dolphins get in on it as well. There's some stuff out there that Jerry Jones told every member of the Dallas Cowboys before their game that they would stand and render the appropriate respect, because it was his team, and their job. Don't know if it's true, but I have more respect for that tool now.

AndrewPrice said...

Outlaw, I would have more respect for him too if he did that. I'm glad that all the little leftists are so angry right now that the NFL is allowing it but equating standing with patriotism. Good for the NFL!
