Another Question of the Day

I have been so distracted lately by Caitlyn Jenner changing the face of gender identity and Rachel Dolezal's (formerly known as"African-American Rachel") changing the face of race with her daily revelations of everything short of alien abduction or CIA deep under-cover Bush-era covert ops to infiltrate the NAACP (I am certain this will come out) that I really don't know what to say.

And then there's (Dear God, help us) Donald Trump's announcement that he is throwing his gold-leafed hat in the Presidential ring. Frankly, I really can't focus on anything. So, here is another "Question of the Day".

What really is the most important political issue of your life?

Seriously, what is important to you? As we wait for the Supreme Court to issue their rulings on Same-sex marriage and Obamacare, what is it that really effects your real life? Is it stagnant economy, Middle-East conflicts, Russian aggression (yeah, it's a thing again), trade agreements, Wall Street bad guys, voting rights, thieving elected officials, crime and/or punishment, GMO infiltration, or the evils of trans-fats or the constant PSA's from the CDC about the dangers of whooping cough? What do you really care about?

I just don't know anymore...

By the way, yesterday was the 130th Anniversary of the delivery of the Statue of Liberty to New York and the US, as a gift from France. Did you know that one of the architects of the statue was Gustave Eiffel? Yeah, the same person that engineered the Eiffel Tower.

I lean more towards foreign policy.

Right now, mine is the OPM data hack.

Bev, What can be more important than Can't Jemima? Wish I had coined that term, lol.

But seriously, folks, the stuff that bothers me the most is the rising cost of meat, the neglect and abuse by VA bureaurats who think they know better than doctors how best to care for veterans (and who don't get punished when their greed results in the death of veterans), a disaterous foreign policy that will cost lots of American lives in the future, a neutered GOP leadership that continues to really suck, as well as a sputtering economy, no political will to safeguard our borders, horrible abuse of power by DA's, judges, the dept. of (in)justice, the IRS, the FCC, the EPA...oh to hell with all those alphabet agencies.

The proregressives ruin everything they touch. This is why we can't have nice things.

I could probably go on all day, but I won't.
On a bright note, however, I found a relatively new southern rock band I really like. :)

Fact: The designers of the Statue of Liberty intentionally set it up to face Europe. Its creator, Frederic Bartholdi, meant this as a beacon of hope for a Europe that was still mostly living under various dictatorships (his home country of France was under the regime of Napoleon III when he came up with the idea; Russia), dictatorships under the guise of democracy (Germany- the Second Reich), or extremely limited democracies (Great Britain).
Basically, Lady Liberty is holding out hope that a free society and government of the people will one day reach Europe. With the current state of the EU, it's a good bet she's hoping.

In other news...

-LeBron James fails- again- to win a championship for Cleveland. Golden State wins in six. The city of Cleveland STILL hasn't won a title since 1964. (That would be the Browns, winning the pre-Super Bowl Era NFL title, behind RB Jim Brown. Owner Art Modell had fired HC Paul Brown 2 years earlier to keep the RB happy since the two despised each other. The RB 'returned' the 'gesture' by retiring on the set of 'the Dirty Dozen' after one more season. Well, that's gratitude for 'ya.)

-For nearly the first time in three weeks, the Buccos and Redbirds have different results! Yesterday, the Pirates (38- 27) won on Chicago's South Side, while the Cards (43- 22) came up short in Minneapolis. The two had gone between 19 and 21 days- I forget exactly which- with getting the exact same results.
St. Louis is still up by five games on second place Pittsburgh in the NL Central.

-It has been confirmed that Spanish dictator Francisco Franco is still dead.

(continued...)

-I already mentioned this to Andrew, but, oh, what the heck: former Soviet and NHL hockey star, and now a senator in Russia, Slava Fetisov, has presented a bill to the Russian Duma that would prohibit Russian-born hockey players from leaving Mother Russia to play in foreign leagues until they turn 28. Fetisov, the former USSR captain, became the first Soviet player to play in the NHL in 1989. This followed after several years of wrangling between Fetisov, Soviet government and military officials, (all Soviet hockey players were inducted into the Red Army), NHL officials, and New Jersey Devils front office personnel. Fetisov was eventually granted his release from the USSR team after demanding it for several years (he'd been drafted in the NHL by New Jersey). He eventually won the Stanley with Detroit.
Earlier this year, Fetisov was profiled in the ESPN '30 for 30' video, "Of Miracles and Men," which was about the Soviet team and included its loss to the USA in 1980. It ended with Fetisov triumphantly bringing hockey's holy grail to Moscow's Red Square in 1997. He told reporters at the time, "you want to see a miracle? This is a miracle."
Now, the same guy who so many fought for so that he could have his rights to pursue his career as he desired, and who opened the door for so many Russian players to pursue their careers where they wanted, wants to return to the Stalinist ways of the past.
In addition to being a Putin-era nationalist ploy, the bill is seen as a method of keeping the best Russian players in Russia to help the uber-struggling KHL. (Kontinental Hockey League, Russian equivalent to the NHL.) The league has sub-standard facilities, is often unable to pay players, is in the iron-fisted grip of Russian organized crime, and its medical care makes Obamacare look good by comparison. (Did I really just type that?!) in other words, its a disaster and Fetisov wants to enslave local players to it in order to boost revenue.

So, for d*cks***, a**wipe, jacka**, and [insert your dirty name here] of the year, I nominate Slava Fetisov.

Bev.......For direct, day-to-day impact, O'Care. For longer term destruction of this country, open abuse of the federal gov't by the Marxists in power. The b'cats who do the actual work inside the leviathan, just do as they're told. Talk about loyal foot soldiers of the Evil one?! These GS employees ensure that the fascists' dreams get enacted.

So, the old mantra "You can't fight City Hall," is becoming more and more infused in our daily decision making.....and it will destroy this country more than it has already.

So...short-term O'care. Longer-term Soviet-style intrusion into everything we try and do.

The Federal Government is just too big and too powerful and too up our butts everyday, every night, and always...It has to be cut down to size. The other day I saw a Bureau of Land Management officer who was all tacticalled out...he looked like a one man SWAT team,,,for why? He inspects forests. You can't move W/O one of them telling you what to do and when....we have got to close that damn border and get a semblance of order to who the Hell is here. I personally feel that the Left has opened the flood gates to get more voters and the GOP opened it to get more cheap workers... on to the 2nd Amendment, my guns and the guns of law abiding citizens are NONE of the government's business at all, NONE...go catch a criminal like you're supposed to be doing. I don't have a solution to the health care mess, both parties have gotten rich off of those companies, both parties have made those companies rich, at the expense of the American people.

Right now, I believe we most need a campaign to raise awareness about the awareness raised by campaigns which aim to raise awareness.

What's most important in life?

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women.

AndrewPrice said...

In all seriousness, what's most important is health, family and earning enough money to support both of those.

Politically speaking, I'm not sure anything is important anymore. The government seems to have ground to a halt and both parties are determined to commit suicide. I think the biggest question is how do you, as a non-connected person, benefit from this situation?

If you want a less depressing answer, then I would say that the most important thing is for the GOP to seek to become a majority party again by actually trying to win over the public.

Also, I warn you now: this trend toward black and white kitchens will pass fast and it will look dated within a couple years. You... have... been... warned!

Yep! And in honor of that, I intend to raid a Briton village.

Andrew - You should know that the B&W kitchen fad has already faded. Now we are into brightly colored appliances and accessories.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, I am not at all surprised. People like color. And the stark black and white is unfriendly, feels "commercial" to me, is going to look dingy and dirty fast.

BevfromNYC said...

I am all about the base, 'bout the base, no treble ;-b

Okay, now that I got that out of the way. I think my overarching issue is for the government to leave me alone. Stop trying to legislate my every movement and thought, and I want them to stop delegitimizing my opinion!

BevfromNYC said...

Andrew - that was the whole point of - to make it look like a commercial kitchen. It became popular with the rise of the "super-star celebrity chef" craze. You see, if you had a stainless steel and chrome kitchen with industrial looking appliances you too could cook like those famous chefs on the TV and be famous too! I think that whole craze began to fade when these "celebrity chefs" introduced molecular gastronomy as the new hip thing where everything was a "foam" something or another. I actually saw "pate foam" (frozen liver pops) on a menu of a restaurant. The place closed a month after it opened...

I think the most important issue is the sluggish economy, though the government's vulnerability to cyberattack is a close second.

The most important issue of my life for 4 decades has been fostering growth in GDP, the rate of commerce, and the level of positive risk-taking characteristic of free enterprise. Anything Ronald Reagan stood for economically, politically, or morally. I am hawkish on defense. I am anti-big government.

Throw in a massive reduction of the national debt and a balanced budget, and I think we're there.
