Random Stuff... Random Stuff

Here are some random thoughts ripped straight from the headlines.

First Britton Targeted Killed By Drone. That is a harsh punishment for speeding. That said, let me ask a question. Would people be less upset if he had been killed by a human pilot? Would it make him any less dead or differently dead?

Penis Photo Costs Man Job. A Chicago man lost his dream job after accidentally texting a picture of his penis twice to the HR manager of the company that had just offered him a job. Apparently, he was supposed to submit three copies. Just kidding. Actually, the man thought he was sending the photos to a woman he was hoping to impress, but instead he sent it to the HR manager. What kind of fool thinks women are impressed with dick pics? That isn’t something women like, as explained all over the net. And did the company fire him for lack of judgment in sending a picture of his Johnson, in taking a picture of his Johnson, in sending a text to the wrong person, or in trying to impress a woman with a Johnson pic? Or did they fire him for coming up short (if you know what I mean)? Last question... what job had Mr. Biden applied for exactly?

No Soup For You! A Times Square topless street “performer” was arrested the other day for offering oral sex and drugs to an undercover cop. This statement had me deeply perplexed. Does this mean it’s illegal to have sex with cops? I could see priests, but cops? No wonder they eat so many donuts. Also, in this sentence, does the word oral modify sex or drugs or both? Oh, and her name was Destiny, so wasn't this really inevitable?

Biden 2017! I find it funny that anyone thinks Biden can win the Presidency. Biden is Hillary except that his gaffes are funny... and he's more dangerous with a shotgun. The real difference between the two is that Hillary’s supporters can plausibly claim that they are voting for the first woman for President. Biden doesn’t have that (barring a Caitlin Jenner thing). In fact, that’s really the only appeal Hillary has and it’s more than Biden has. So I can’t see how anyone could assume that he would have a chance to win.

Taylor NotSoSwift. Taylor Swift is a mega success. Can't deny that. She has learned to turn annoyance and a silly version of "girl power" into a sort cash machine that taps straight into the pockets of parents. Interestingly though, she is running into race problems now. First, when she won video of the year, a black turd/"singer" named Nicki Minaj freaked out and whined about white people getting awards she wanted (just as black "biggest clown" Kanye West did to Taylor in the Bush years). Taylor made the mistake of responding by asking Minaj why she was crapping on her. Taylor was not prepared for the liberal backlash which laughably accused HER of turning this into a race issue by responding to Minaj, who then lied and claimed she hadn't aimed this racist tirade of hers at Swift. Now Taylor is in trouble again because her latest video is being accused of embracing the racist white colonial fantasy. Once again, Taylor is befuddled that she's being picked on. Ha ha. I love it when intolerant a-holes who embrace identity politics find themselves attacked by other intolerant a-holes who embrace identity politics. Maybe Swift should declare herself black?

Thoughts?

re the Drone: It has befuddled me just what the Left and Libertarians are upset about when it comes to drones. You are not one iota less dead if you are killed by a drone than if you are killed by a manned bomber.

re Taylor Swift: I tend to avoid reading about the latest adventures of Lady Taylor (and celebrities in general) so I must admit I was in the dark about this little story. Though I was aware of her shift towards the Left in recent years.

Nicki Minaj and the Sad Puppies' Larry Correia ought to get together and have a good cry. 'We are both very commercially successfully artists in fields crowded with starving artists. Both of us are one of the handful of people nominated for a high profile award, and we both lost! Clearly the world hates us because we are the wrong type of people. There is no other logical conclusion that can be drawn! We must rally our supporters in order to obtain justice!'

Nicki Minaj bleached her skin, bought a fake butt and fake boobs and has had extensive facial reconstruction surgery (I imagine at least some of that hurt), so she sacrificed more for her success than Larry Correia :) , but the whining of both of them strikes me as silly.

I don't know much about Taylor Swift, but my daughters (10 and 14) like her and the music of hers I have heard is inoffensive, so I don't have a problem with her.

Swit's 'Who, me?' response(s?) to Nicki Minaj strikes me not as a mistake, but a smart way to play the game, much smarter than getting into potentially image damaging flame war the other person hopes to make racially charged.

As for Biden, I agree he lacks Hillary's gender novelty and thus isn't the Democrat's ideal candidate, but he does come across as an ordinary person (albeit one who has seen an extraordinary amount of tragedy in his life). I don't have a ton of respect for the guy, but he is dangerous in his own way.

*Shrugs* Of course, as Michelle Malkin has pointed, out he has behaved like a creepy uncle in public with many women. I'm not sure such behavior has really registered with the public (the dominant narrative is oaf, not lecher) but enough attacks ads and articles could change that.

My favorite podcast is Hollywood Babble-On with Kevin Smith and LA radio personality Ralph Garman. It's hilarious - they talk geek stuff and pop culture and Ralph frequently flies off the handle when it comes to certain celebrities, including one Taylor Swift, whom he refers to as "Tadolf Switler"!

I couldn't care less but apparently something evil lurks underneath the tween-friendly veneer. And her fans... talk about an army!

Anyway, on this weekend's podcast, they talked about the VMAs and how ratings were down this year. They stressed that there was nothing worth watching because: a.) this generation of pop stars is mostly horrible, and b.) thanks to Instagram, Twitter, etc., we get our entertainment literally 24/7. What could they possibly save for the show?

In the immortal words of Archie bunker: "Would it make ya feel better if someone shoved him out a window?"

Crazy Uncle Joe is comic relief. Mrs Clinton needs to be in jail. I know it isn't likely to happen, but anyone else in the government would have been in deep kimchi for handling classified material that way.

Let's just say there are people in my life who are more invested in Taylor Swift than I am, so I am consistently aware at a low level of her goings on. It's my understanding that the very existence of Tay is somehow racist, anti-feminist, and everything else "bad". I'm sure I could get an oppression-studies professor to parse all the nuances for us, but I believe the technical term for what makes Swift so offensive is that she's popular.

IDK, there might be something to the fact that every #1 female pop star in my lifetime has been a blue-eyed blonde. But I think that says more about the corporate shills that package the darlings than the impressionable tween consumers who buy what they're told.

Kit, I almost felt bad for Taylor. She was flat out attacked (except by name by Minaj) and then asked why she was attacked and found herself accused of racism for asking. It was a stunningly sh*tty thing to do to a person. BUT... I have no sympathy for Swift. She's a turd and she plays in that pool (lightly, but she does), so I won't defend her.

I get the idea that drones remove the human judgment element to a degree, but yeah, you're dead either way. It's not like you are less dead if you are killed by a person.

AndrewPrice said...

Critch, Bunker often had a way to cut right through the stupidity and expose it. Too bad liberals never got the point.

I am stunned that anyone would seriously consider Biden for... well, anything.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, LOL! But how do we know that Larry Correia hasn't had butt implants? ;-)

As for Swift, I thought she handled it very well and it was amazing to me that Minaj played so incredibly dirty with it and that other people bought it and accused Swift of starting a race fight. Huh??? In terms of her songs, they are so horrifically repetitive that I want to run out of the room every time one of ours starts playing them them them them them them them. Ahhhhhh!

On Biden, I honestly don't see how this works at all. He has no charisma. He has never struck me as capable of creating excitement. He's not a great speaker. He puts his foot in his mouth so regularly that it seems to live there. And he comes across as out of touch. So I'm really befuddled that the left thinks of him as a viable candidate. //scratches head

Scott, The thing about Swift is that (1) her image is a total fraud and (2) she's one vindictive girl. She basically an upper class preppy who dabbles in making white trash culture "cute." "Oh, isn't that great, she's feuding with another ex-boyfriend!"

In terms of pop, this is truly a dark time for pop. There are bands right now who wouldn't crack the charts in the 1960's through the early 2000's, who are super stars today because there just isn't any competition (cough cough Maroon 5). And almost all of it is a rip off.

Ironically, one of the best songs right now is the most cynical. A guy called "The Weeknd" has written a very Michael Jackson sounding pop song called "I can't feel my face." (LINK) It's very catchy and bubbly and an army of little girls and their parents are singing it... completely unaware of the super-obvious fact it's about a drug addiction.

Another one that makes me laugh is Jason Derulo who sings about ASS. Yep. It's Idiocracy brought to life. He sings about butts (e.g. Wiggle, Trumpets). The thing is, he's much smarter than his songs, so I tend to see this as him mocking his fans more than anything.

re Swift: I've noticed that for most, but not all, people Lady Taylor Swift provokes one of three reactions: slavish love, unbridled loathing, or apathy.

Me, I guess I am in the apathy camp: I like a few of her songs ("Welcome to New York" is one) but I find her a bit over-hyped by her fans (she's not that good!) and over-hated by her detractors (She's not that bad!).

Actually, drone operators have a ringside seat to the attack. Depending on the altitude and distance of the drone to the target, the operator often can actually see the face of the intended target. Those cameras are amazing. The stress on them is more like the stress a sniper feels in some ways. They often have stalked their target for hours or days even, they know what he looks like, and then BAM!, a Hellfire missile into the picnic table he's sitting at with his buds...BTW, Obama has ordered something like 10 times more drone strikes than Bush ever did...the Lefties got all crazy over Bush using them. I remember watching an attack on the Big Screen one night in the desert, you could see an insurgent trying to hide under a truck; the truck was next.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I believe the technical term for what makes Swift so offensive is that she's popular LOL! So true.

I too am sadly too aware of Swift's goings on. In terms of why the left hates her, that I do not know. I guess it's because she doesn't write whiny songs about being abused? She seems to be about girl empowerment rather than girl victimization... though her form of empowerment would be called abuse if a man sang it.

I just need need need need need need her to stop stop stop stop stop stop stop singing the same same same same same same words over over over over over over over until my brain brain brain brain brain brain brain brain wants to explode.

AndrewPrice said...

Critch, I think the problem the left has with drones is the asymmetry of it. They don't like the fact that the target doesn't have a chance to kill the attacker.

In fact, everything the left talks about when it comes to war comes down to wanting to be sure that the American soldier is at an equal risk of dying as the other guy. And yes, I'm serious. They don't phrase it this way, but that is what they mean when they talk about proportional response and when they fight combat systems that allow Americans to stay out of danger.

Libertarians, on the other hand, I think, are worried that drones start to give too much power to a concentrated few without the ability of soldiers to refuse bad orders. In other words, they fear someone like Obama being able to control the country militarily by remote control and sidestepping the soldiers.

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, I find her stuff mindless and commercial. It will be forgotten by the time her next album comes out. On a person level, she strikes me as a turd. Personally, I would just happily ignore her... except we have a 10 year old in the house, so that becomes becomes becomes becomes becomes impossible... impossible.

Kit said...

re the modern state of pop; as one fellow pointed out August of last year, "if you want to know how bad it is, the most buzzed about album right now is full of these BIG MEGA-POPULR SINGLES —from forty years ago."

He was referring, of course, to the Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack.

I've long wondered if Jason Derulo is the greatest satirist of our generation. The difficulty in discerning whether or not he is serious owes a great deal to the depths that modern pop has sunk.

It's like he or his producers had a bet: How bad can we get with people still buying our crap.

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, If Derulo was just some moron singer, then I would think he was serious. But I've seen interviews with him and now I've seen him on an entire season of "So You Think You Can Dance" as a judge. He's extremely intelligent. So I am increasingly inclined to think he's intentionally messing with people. I think he distilled the silliness of hip hop and pop down to its essence and he's putting that into songs to see how dumb the audience can be... and his answer is the same one PT Barnum found.

The Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack was awesome! :)

Kit said...

"his answer is the same one PT Barnum found."

And Donald Trump.

What is it with so many Lefties suddenly going on about how great it is to be a socialist. I understand that they may like Bernie, because he's going to give them all sorts of free stuff, but I'm seeing school teachers, etc suddenly calling themselves socialists,,,they don't get it do they?

BevfromNYC said...

First of all, why are you all hatin' on Taylor Swift? Oh, yeah, who is she again? All I know if that she is tall, leggy blond who dated Kennedy once.

Also, I am not sure Biden is the answer that the Dems are looking for. But expect them to really push the grieving father/husband/everyman angle to replace the "woman/sexist" angle when the Repubs go after him. I can't just hear it now..."Those evil Republicans are being mean to Joe. He's a great guy who lost his wife and children and is a really nice. He's from Scranton, for god's sake!" Oh, here's fun fact: If Joe doesn't get the nomination, he will be the first Dem VP not to since 1952

BevfromNYC said...

Critch - Calling yourself a "socialist" today is very hip and cool. Just like the teachers who went on strike in Washington on the first day of school today. I am not sure who they think they are hurting exactly, except working and poor parents. But then in WA they have aggressive anarchists, so the socialist must seem kinda lame in comparison.

ScottDS said...

Andrew -

I assume you've at least tried to introduce the kids to classic rock? (Or classic films, for that matter.) :-)

EPorvaznik said...

Here, tryanmax, to hopefully make you feel better about fairly recent generations throwing blonde and blue-eyed females up the pop charts: Whitney Houston and Mariah Carey.

I'm in the midst of a Def Leppard renaissance, so recently watched their Taylor Swift CMT Crossroads special from a few years ago, and while I can't find anything for or against her as a performer, nor does she have the vocal talents of Carrie Underwood, at least she has decent taste in what came before her.

Anthony said...

Andrew,

I think everyone recognizes that in a sane universe Biden would be a terrible candidate, but right now the only other options are the wooden Hillary and the hard left Bernie Sanders.

Like I predicted, O'Malley (who is as charisma free as Hillary) hasn't gone anywhere.

AndrewPrice said...

Scott, I have tried. I'm doing ok with one... hopeless with the other. :(

AndrewPrice said...

Critch, "Socialist" is the newest hipster craze, which means it's already passed and we're just seeing the death throws right now. You know how hipsters are.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, She dated Ted Kennedy? Yuck!

I think you're right about Biden if they are stuck with him. He'll become the weepy candidate as he continues to cynically exploit the dead people in his family as he's done for a very long time. #nosympathyforsympathywhores

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, So far, that is true. I haven't written him off though. I see him as a last man standing sort of thing when Hillary implodes and old man Trotsky is seen in sunlight for the first time and turns to dust.

AndrewPrice said...

Eric, Do you remember when metal was considered Satanic? Those were the days. Satan's real record label signed a bunch of estrogen song stuff, especially modern R&B.

No one appreciates the real youuuu...
No one appreciates the things you doooo...
I was so bad to you...
So so so so so bad...
I don't deserve to be forgiven, by youuuu...
Because I was so bad to youuuu...
It wasn't your fault in any way...
It was all me, 'cuz I'm soo soo bad...

Oh, and for the record, they need to stop selling over-sized pick-up trucks to men with small Johnsons.

EPorvaznik said...

Metal's still Satanic, and it primarily lives, thrives and survives in Scandinavia.

AndrewPrice said...

Eric, I've noticed that! LOL! It does seem to be coming from Scandinavia. Not sure about the Satanic bit though. I'm pretty sure Satan has found a better way to drive humanity to commit great evil in these whiny chick songs.

BevfromNYC said...

Wait, I thought that R&R was only Satanic if you played it backwards!!

I still love punk rock....and rockabilly...and bluegrass...and AC/DC...and The Stones....

Kit said...

Andrew,

"Scott, I have tried. I'm doing ok with one... hopeless with the other. :("

You can't just say "Let's listen to some of x" you have to carpet bomb them. When they get in the car have either Queen's Greatest Hits or AC/DC's Back in Black playing.

Hit them with Guardians of the Galaxy soundtrack. Rolling Stones work, too.

Kit said...

"Critch, "Socialist" is the newest hipster craze, which means it's already passed and we're just seeing the death throws right now. You know how hipsters are."

So, I guess it's a good thing hipsters will never be conservative.

Kit said...

"Do you remember when metal was considered Satanic? Those were the days. Satan's real record label signed a bunch of estrogen song stuff, especially modern R&B."

Are you referring to One Direction?

Critch said...

Pray for me, I'm headed to Texas tomorrow....hopefully they're still not upset about my misspent youth.

AndrewPrice said...

Critch, All excellent choices! :D

Good luck in Texas. If you get in trouble, drop Bev's name! ;-)

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, Hipsters will never be anything anyone else has been... except annoying.

Sadly, you can't carpetbomb a 10 year old. They have a very power defensive capability: "MMMooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooommmmm!!!!"

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, One Direction is just a group of gay kids. True evil lurks in the heart of every song that tells a suburban middle aged woman who is surrounded by wealth and people who love her that she is a victim of everyone else not respecting her enough for whatever the hell it is that she doesn't actually do while she wastes her day at Starbuck, and that she deserves a muscular black man in a tuxedo to grovel for her.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, R&R is only evil if you mix it with corporate culture.

Kit said...

"R&R"?

Kit said...

Andrew,

She can't do that if she is trapped in the car with you…

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, "Rock and Roll"

You would be surprised at the powers a ten year old possesses. The Taliban have nothing on them.

Kit said...

You've got to try.

I sometimes take for granted that for as long as I can remember I was driven to school early in the morning by my parents who listened to a local hard rock station.

True Rock&Roll died when Elvis Presley started gaining weight.

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, I am trying, but this really is a lost cause. In this case, said 10 year old was driven to school by people who listen to soul killing modern music.

EPorvaznik said...

As the Texas Hippie Coalition sings so beautifully gruffy, rock ain't dead, it's just in rehab.

EPorvaznik said...

For her sake and yours, don't give up trying. Bring some Joan Jett and/or Pat Benatar along for the ride, lemme know how that goes. Tina Turner, too.

AndrewPrice said...

"Elvis ain't dead... he just went home." -- Tommy Lee Jones Men in Black

AndrewPrice said...

Eric, I tried Tina Turner and she mimicked throwing up and then called me old.

Trust me, I am doing my best, but this child is something else. It's like a battle of Jedi mind tricks. My wife laughs at the two of us trying to manipulate each other.

AndrewPrice said...

On the plus side, she LOVES muscle cars. "Pretty cars" as she calls them. That said, unfortunately, she seems convinced she's getting one when she turns 16 though.

Rustbelt said...

Andrew, it's time for the heavy artillery. Bring on Metallica and show the kid for whom the bell really tolls! (And by that, I mean Swift and O.D.'s careers.)

AndrewPrice said...

Rustbelt, The older one is drifting into heavy metal. Somehow, she got there through anime. Not sure how that worked, but it does seem to be opening her mind to lots of older music.

Rustbelt said...

1 out of 2 isn't bad, Andrew. And given the age gap, perhaps in four years the other will come around as well. Just have to suffer through the stuff stuff stuff for a while. I can commiserate: I have some younger cousins who through a 'Momma Mia!' phase. Sad, but true.

AndrewPrice said...

Rustbelt, Our ten year old went through a Justin Bieber phase and a One Direction phase before I knew her. I'm kind of glad I missed that.

EPorvaznik said...

As much as I love Pat, who's still bringing it in the vocals department, try with Joan, who continues to stay relevant and crank out amazing albums.

EPorvaznik said...

Nuthin' wrong with a gal getting a late 60sa Mustang for her Sweet 16.

Nice! On that note, throw the Stevie Wonder/Metallica "Superstition"/"Sad but True" mash-up at her. Strike that ... Wait a couple years.

Critch said...

I remember well when Reagan invaded Grenada, some idiot Dimocrat actually said, "Well, it wasn't fair fight." Reagan's response was, "Of course it wasn't, that's how you win." A super leftie anti-gun, anti-God socialist I know asked ME, (ME mind you) why I carried a Glock with 12 rounds in it? Isn't 6 enough? My smart aleck answer was, "But if I want to shoot him 12 times I would have to reload." I never fight fair.

AndrewPrice said...

Critch, It's an asinine and insane way of thinking, but they really do think that way. They want us to be at an equal risk with our enemies. F-them!

AndrewPrice said...

Eric, Her first car is going to be a tank so she can't get hurt.
