The Self-Defeating Left

We talk a lot about how bad the right is at reaching the public with its message. The reasons for that vary, but they generally come down to (1) unfamiliarity with the public and the culture, hence an inability to grasp what matters to the public, (2) inability to tailor message because of inability to grasp that politics is about sales pitch, not substance, (3) inability to grasp that perception is more important than reality, and (4) inability to grasp that everything is political. Yuck! But these things can be fixed. The left's problem can't be fixed.

The left's problem, stated simply, is that everything they do blows back upon them and undermines their fundamental purpose. Consider this: the left loves to attack anyone who stands in their way. They smeared President Bush and his entire administration as corrupt and incompetent. They attack the Congress as corrupt and incompetent. They attack the Supreme Court as corrupt. They attack the Federal Reserve as a corrupt defender of the rich. They attack the Treasury as beholden to Wall Street, the Pentagon as murderous and incompetent, the FDA and EPA as beholden to the big business companies they regulate, etc.

They said, the government's response to Katrina was incompetent and racist. Its response to the Crash of 2008 was biased and incompetent. Its response to the Great Recession, the creation of Obamacare, the regulation of the internet, and the creation of financial reform was biased for Big Business. The Iraqi War was fought for oil companies, as were they all. Police are incompetent, racist murders. When someone is hurt by a product, it's because of incompetent or biased regulators. When someone loses their house, it's predatory loan practices allowed by the government. And so on.

See the problem?

Ok, how about adding this: the Hollywood left reinforces this. The villain in so many films today is a corrupt general, regulator, governor, senator or President. The government bureaucrat stands in the way of everything... they never understand what the hero needs to do. They are a roadblock at best... an enemy at worse.

Get it now? Fundamentally, the left NEEDS you to trust the government so that you will accept their solutions. After all, that is what they want, that you hand over your life to the government. Yet, every single thing they say is an attack on the government as incompetent, racist, and hopelessly biased. Think about that. Every time they make an argument they argue: "The government is hopelessly incompetent and biased!! Give the government more power to solve the current problem!"

How's that for a problem? The better their arguments are, the more they damage their own cause.

snicker snicker

And this isn't the only thing they do which backfires. The more they try to sell ideas like girl power, the more they reinforce the idea that girls are inherently powerless. The more they argue that talking about problems facing the black community is racist, the more problems they prevent anyone from solving... like the number of blacks murdered by other blacks. The more they talk down the expectations for their own supporters, the more worthless and non-productive (and powerless) their supporters become. The more they make the use of the military unacceptable, the more impossible they make it for leftist Presidents to conduct foreign policy. And so on.

The left lives in a trap where their own arguments undermine the public's belief in their cause.

Thoughts?

We are in the right fight, even if our side often seems to lack competence these days.

Agreed. Conservatism is a consistent, intelligent theory that has proven to work wonders everywhere it's been tried. It has lifted billions of people out of poverty, extended lives, ended famine, and give us a world our ancestors could not have dream of.

By comparison, leftist politics, is a hypocritical theory premised on spite and other negative emotions. It generally must be imposed by a lie and maintained at the butt of a gun. It has bankrupted nations, lifted no one up, murdered tens of millions, and achieved nothing of value.

It's too bad that so many otherwise rational people can't see leftism for what it is.

Yes, when an entire idioology is based on wishful thinking rather than reality, it is doomed to collapse as well as hurt and destroy peoples lives.
I literally can't name one leftist idea that has ever worked out to the good.
History is full of how much of a failure leftist thinking really is.

Excellent post, Andrew!

Thanks Ben! :)

Leftism is really premised on ideas that run directly opposed to human nature. So they have a hard sales pitch to begin with. Then you add in the fact that everything they either exposes itself as a lie, reinforces the truth they are trying to deny, or undermines their goal and they have a serious problem. Ha ha!

Oh, my favorite Hillary re-re-re-re-set so far – Yes, Hillary is re-re-resetting her campaign and her crackerjack re-re-reset team wants to humanize her a bit. To show her as a kinder, gentler, more human person, she is now taking requests from her supporters on THE most important, massive and growing issue that affects us all right now in 2015 more than anything - puppy mills! I swear. Seriously they need to get her answering really serious questions, not even more soft ball crap.

Last week photos were splashed all over the media of a dead Syrian refugee toddler who had washed up on a beach in Turkey. And these morons have Hillary yammering on about puppy mills???

Oh, and just so we are clear, she did nothing wrong with those emails because something or another and it wasn’t her fault. Well, she admitted quite begrudgingly that she may have kinda showed really poor judgment, because that makes it all better. [Insert “vast right wing conspiracy #3567812] And because that is ALWAYS what you want to hear from a Presidential candidate.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, Hillary is just awful. Puppies mills have been a huge and growing issue among dog lovers for quite some time. There have been legal actions and ballot initiative all over the West and Midwest -- most mills are in the South. BUT that is NOT a Presidential issue, nor is it anything anyone would believe that Hillary cares about.

On Syria, the interesting problem the Democrats have is that they have boxed themselves in. They are anti-dictator, which means they can't support the regime. They are anti-terrorist, which means they can't support the rebels. So they can't support either side. BUT they claim they will use the military to stop every humanitarian crises, so they need to act. It's a huge mess for them. Now the Russians have been caught sending troops to help Assad and that violates one of the lines in the sand Obama drew.

BTW, Did you see that Andrew Cuomo's attorney was shot in the head. Sounds like a political assassination to me, honestly.

OT: Here's a fantastic article on the Patriots' history of cheating. It goes all the way back to Belichick's days with the Browns and the details are amazing. (LINK)

I'm not even sure if it is a federal issue.

AndrewPrice said...

Kit, It's not... though after the Obamacare ruling I'm not sure anything can't be made a federal issue anymore. The people involved with it know that too. They've been working at the state levels to change the laws.

In any event though, Bev is right. This sounds like some random thing Hillary pulled out of the newspaper to try to make herself sound like she's in touch with people. I doubt she can even get near a dog without cringing.

Interesting Andrew, because all I have ever heard say liberals/Dems for years now is how all this middle east stuff (minus Israel stuff, of course( is just civil war and we should stay out it. It is their problem not ours...we are not the police of the world.

Now, as predictable as the sun rising, there is a huge humanitarian crisis that has been ignored and left to fester. Btw, most of these are Christians escaping, but whatevs.. Hundreds of thousands of men, women and children are being blown up, bassed beheaded, and slaughtered in the streets to the giant collective YAWN of the chattering liberal classes as that was just fine because it's "over there".

Now that there are dead babies washing ashore, NOW liberals area all up in arms about how nothing is being down and this is terrible and those mean ol' Republicans are just heartless because they allowed us to get what we wanted. .

And seriously, President Obama's red lines are the biggest joke of the 21st. I blame Obama for all of this. He refused as the Free World to pressure the UN and our European allies to do anything...at all. And now Europe is being sucked up into a refugee crisis that has not been seen in a hundred years.

BevfromNYC said...

Actually, Andrew, it was random. Well as random as being caught in the cross fire of two rival gangs at 3am can be. He was at the "pre-parade march" for the West Indian Day Parade in Brooklyn which is a huge yearly event always rife with violence. 4 other people were shot and one person was stabbed to death near the same time. And of course Cuomo is blaming the NRA and guns even though NYC and State have some of the strictest gun laws in the country. So far he has said nothing about sharp pointy objects being to blame in the only death so far...

Personally, I think that they should ban the "pre-parade party/march" at 3AM

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, You forget, liberals are toxic mix of three things: emotion, hypocrisy, and self-righteousness.

Self-righteous: They have always claimed that they would solve every humanitarian crisis and the Republicans were evil for not "wanting" to help people who need it. Now they are ignoring all the "hard" ones because this stuff is "harder" and "more complex" than when you guys did the same thing.

Hypocrisy: They attacked Bush for trying to get away from dealing dictators by accusing him of dealing with dictators. Notice how silent they got over Obamas support of the military in Egypt and how late he was on the Arab Spring (which has turned into a murderous Arab winter).

Emotion: Raped and murdered school girls and Christian families? Whatever, I didn't see the video... I don't care... it's none of our business... no blood for oil. OMG! A dead baby, this changes everything!! How can you all be so heartless as to not have solveed this before I had to see that photo!!! (Hillary: "Look, puppies!")

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, I suppose it could be, but it sure seems like a strange coincidence to me. In any other state (except Arkansas), I would see it as a coincidence, but in NY, this has the feel of a cover-up of something.

Of course, in any other state, people getting killed at a pre-parade would be shocking news.

As for blaming the NRA, good luck.

BevfromNYC said...

I wasn't really sure what you were getting at and then it struck me that as Cuomo's former attorney/adviser, he probably knows stuff. And with Cuomo being "looked at" by the US Attorney and all, maybe it is more than just a coincidence tat he was caught in some gang related gunfire at 3am in the morning...

AndrewPrice said...

Yeah, that's what I meant. Sorry if I wasn't clear. When I saw who it was, it struck me that this had the feel of getting rid of someone who has too much knowledge and might be willing to talk.

It could well be a coincidence, but it sounds like a big coincidence to me.

OT: NFL: Ok, I've read the whole article. It's a fascinating read about all kinds of things the Patriots have done. It lays out a very extensive case that they cheated for all their Super Bowls too and that they routinely cheat in the most amazing bold and sometimes minuscule ways.

I think, reading this, that Goodell is now finished, His main job is lightening rod and fall guy and I think he's reached capacity here. The allegations in this report are that he covered up a lot of things, that he lied to Senator Arlen Specter, and that he attacked the Patriots in Deflategate to make up for his cover-up of Spygate.. None of those things are a problem. That is his job as lightening rod. But getting caught doing those things is a problem. That triggers his role as fall guy, so the league doesn't get blamed. So I would expect him to be gone if not by qay of resignation soon, then at the end of the year "having accomplished his mission."

BevfromNYC said...

Yeah, and now that I have spelled the possible conspiracy out so clearly, I may have to go on the lamb! 8-/ Cool, this is just like that Mel Gibson movie!

AndrewPrice said...

LOL! Run, Bev!

BevfromNYC said...

And with all of that...The Patriots still will continue to get to cheat their way to victory. I would have at least some respect if just one team would refuse to take to the field against the Patriots take if Brady and Belichick are participating.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, What bothers me is that it's clear that they let these guys cheat for at least 10 years and win four super bowls in the process.

Both parties love power when they have it and distrust it when they don't. That is why government power doesn't shrink under anybody. Republicans and Democrats use it to slightly different ends, but they are both fans of it.

Which power (local, state, or federal and of executive, judicial or legislative) they are fans of is contingent upon who has it and whose ox is being gored with it.

If the Supreme Court had ruled the other way and some court clerk was marrying gay couple anyway, said clerk would have a mostly different set of supporters and detractors than Kim Davis does.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, That's true, but public distrust of government is good for conservatives and hurts the left.

Clinton and her advisors have decided an emotional apology is the best way to play the ongoing e-mail scandal :) .

http://www.cnn.com/2015/09/08/politics/hillary-clinton-private-email-abc-news-apology/index.html

"I'm sorry about that," Clinton said in an at-times emotional interview on ABC News' "World News Tonight with David Muir," acknowledging that she should have used separate accounts for work and personal business. "I take responsibility and I am trying to be as transparent as I possibly can."

It's almost as if Hillary! hears things others don't. Would be interesting if she would get near a dog and watch what how the dog reacts. She would probably blame the dog as being a member of the vast right wing dog conspiracy.

She's toast. It's just fun watching her turn slowly over the fire.
