The Bloomberg Effect...

As a New York City dweller these days, I have to admit it. I miss the Bloomberg years. Now, former Mayor Bloomberg did many things that I did not agree with or even appreciate at the time.

He did away with transfats that fried our french fries to a golden crips. He destroyed our ability to smoke cigarettes anywhere. He made fast food joints declare the calorie count in our Happy Meals, [The calories were so high that it caused heart attacks just looking at the number] However, he finally "jumped the shark" when he moved to ban on our super-sized sugary sodas. That was finally struck down by a soda-swilling judge. And don't get me started on the evils of gluten!

Mayor Bloomberg constantly interfered with our enjoyment of "life". but he meant well. And to his credit, he actually made the city a tolerable place to live. The cost of living went up, but violent crime and unhealthy preservatives all but disappeared.

And it even filtered down to the our vermin...well, maybe not all of our vermin. At least our hardy vermin refused to cave to the calorie/fat/gluten-free craze!

Just in case you may have missed the latest Youtube sensation, I present to you...Pizza Rat.

Btw, Roger (that's Pizza Rat's real name) doesn't like how he has been presented. So much so, he actually felt compelled to write an Op/Ed piece for the NY Daily News - It's all a big misunderstanding!

Oh, and here is another example of what happens when Bloomberg isn't Mayor...Milkshake Squirrel next to Shake Shack in Madison Square Park (not to be confused with Madison Square Garden):

But not all our vermin escaped from the Bloomberg Effect. Fortunately, at least one black squirrel* at City Hall Park learned the proper and healthy foods to eat...

Beware...Michael Bloomberg may jump into the Presidential race. If that happens, none of our bad habit will be safe.

*My niece crowned the apple-eating squirrel Prince Charming...

I honestly can't imagine living in a city like NYC. I know that being armed is not a panacea for preventing any and all crime, but it makes me feel better. At least I can do something when the zombies come; people in NY and Baltimore, and Boston and LA are just SOL when the veneer of civilization is lost. Giuliani and Bloomberg at least kept the cap on it, but this moron is gonna lose it to the Visigoths. Be careful if you live in a large city.

Critch, On the plus side, they're almost all Democrats. So we won't really miss them. :) We just need to go in and get a few people like Bev out.

Bev, Clearly, the rats and squirrels have too much. I think DeBlasio needs to get in there and redistribute what they have amongst the other animals. It's only fair.

Given how incredibly poorly even Republican politicians usually liked by conservatives have done, Bloomberg running would be absolutely insane. I guess if he 'switched parties' he could run as a Democrat though I think even there his numbers would be closer to those of Van Hollen than Bernie Sanders.

Hee hee hee! Animals eating people food!

Anthony - Yes, Bloomberg entering the race would be insane. And under what political banner he would run is anyone's guess though. He has officially been in both major parties and a few minor parties as well. At this moment, he is an official "Independent". It is possibly that Bloomberg could run as a spoiler 3rd Party candidate, but unlikely since he plays to win. My bet is that if Bloomberg does run for something it will be for governor or for the Senate against Schumer.

Tryanmax - Imagine NYC (or the world for that matter) if the rats and other vermin DIDN'T eat our discarded food? People are pigs (and that is an insult to pigs who actually very clean animals). Btw, who threw out a perfectly intact slice of pizza? That wasn't even bitten into or just the crust?

I'm going to disagree. I think that Bloomberg would actually stand a very good chance it he ran as a Democrat. He would likely be seen as being to the left of Hillary, yet electable. It would not surprise me if that swept him to the nomination.

Then it all gets hazy though. I think he would lose, but I wouldn't be as sure as I am with Sanders or Biden.

Andrew - I agree that he would have a chance if he ran on the Dem ticket. He would be perfect for the Left. Business savvy and pretty much anti-most things that he himself does not have to give up. He is rabidly anti -gun, yet travels with his own personal armed security team. But he is just another old, rich white guy...and Jewish, so that will lose the BDS liberals too...

If he wants to run for higher office, he should run against Cuomo or Schumer. We need a business-friendly Gov who will work to bring business INTO NY rather than drive them away. And we just need to rid ourselves of Chuck and Bloomie might be able to do it as a Republican.

Critch - NYC really isn't as bad I portray it. It is loud and dirty and full of way too many people all trying to get some place and it's expensive. And if any political system was the poster child for having a "rigged system" it would be NY.

Oh, wait. It really IS as bad as I make it out to be. Please come and save me when I need to escape...;-)

I was in NYC in 1980. I was in training down near Battery Park. It was fascinating to me, the foods, people etc...the subway was something. I don't know what to tell people except be careful.

Bev, We can start running an underground railroad to help conservatives escape! :D
