Have You Considered...

Once again I've got nothing worth repeating except this...

In this election cycle, this is as good an option as any of the human choices right now.

The floor is now open for discussion.

This election year is awful.

I can't say it any better right now than how a Facebook friend, whose police officer son tracked and subdued the perp who shot and killed the Lancaster sheriff earlier today. Take it away, Rodger Howard ...

"And you know what? Black Lives Matter were given a prominent slot to bloviate -- in Prime Time -- at the Democrat Convention. This after marching through the streets, chanting about wanting dead cops. If you vote for a Democrat, ANY Democrat, you're granting legitimacy to this group that was organized based upon a false narrative ("Hands Up, Don't Shoot" was a lie) and has accomplished nothing but hatred, division and violence. You are dead to me."

A guy named Tyson Fury (who clearly has a lot of personal problems) is the heavyweight champion and has been for months. I honestly had no idea.

Boxing was huge back when I was young, but now it generates about as much interest as water polo and ping pong.

Tyson Fury improbably became heavyweight champion of the world earlier this year when he defeated longtime titleholder Wladimir Klitschko. Ever since, his life has spiraled out of control.

In an interview with Rolling Stone, Fury admitted to having done “a lot of cocaine,” and opened up about the severe depression he’s currently battling — including thoughts of suicide.

“They say I’ve got a version of bipolar,” Fury said. “I’m a manic depressive. I just hope someone kills me before I kill myself.”

Even Maine's wife was unimpressed by his debate antics.

That all being said, Kaine admitted, “I got dinged a little bit, even by my wife, for interrupting too much. Okay.”

Y'all are a bunch of downers! I have never had more fun watching presidential politics than I have this year. Nothing like detachment to take the edge off.

Don't get me wrong, the media's hijinks are as infuriating as ever. Fact checking obvious rhetoric and treating punchlines as policy proposals. Trump makes a crack about shooting someone on Fifth Ave. and the networks go nuts as if he's seriously serious. Clinton makes a wry remark about droning Jullian Assange and it's crickets. And don't get me started on the origins of birtherism!

At the same time, I'm quite happy that the mask is off. I think I've made a record on this site of saying I'd prefer an openly biased media to even a media that vainly strives to be unbiased, much less a media that lazily assumes it is objective because it claims to be.

It's not that I think an openly partisan media drives people away. In large part, it attracts because people are drawn to whatever confirms their beliefs. But it deprives people of thinking their opinions are objective because they share them with some guy in a newsroom.

BTW, Bev, I tweeted a new poster.

Okay, everyone just calm down! It's not that bad. Really, this is why we have guns, kniv...strike that. This is why we have a Constitution! It really isn't as bad as it seems. I kinda think it's healthy that we are in a crisis of monumental will get it out of our system. Really, I witnessed the turbulent '60's & '70's...this is nothing.

And if you won't vote for a refrigerator, maybe a stove or microwave? Toaster ovens are too clever to run for President.

Bev and tryanmax, What bothers me right now is how desperately evil the left has become. They've always been liars, cheats and hypocrites, but they've never been this insane, this shrill before. It's like they've devolved into feral children throwing tantrums.

ArgentGale said...

Ha, that sums things up nicely, and if a business in Austin is voicing sentiments like that you know that the Democrats nominated a real barrel of radioactive waste. I think South Park might have to upgrade from Turd Sandwich and Giant Douche to truly capture how awful this election is. Also, Andrew, nor only are you right with the feral children throwing a tantrum analogy, for whatever it's worth the Daily Caller sidebar had an article about a poll that backs up your observation about the NFL protests turning off viewers. That's what happens when politics intrudes on an otherwise neutral activity, it seems.

Bev, Hot Plate's stance on Global Warming/Climate Change is "Hot! Hot! Hot!", "The Hotter, the Better!", and "Burn, Baby, Burn!"

Any further questions?

Andrew, I remember seeing toothbrush mustaches drawn on pictures of Reagan before I was old enough to know what that meant, but this year, the left has taken the Hitler comparisons to a whole new level. And not just Hitler. I saw a "TRUMP VADER 2016" bumper sticker this morning.

I get the psychology of the maneuver. Juxtaposition creates subconscious associations that are more persuasive than any argument. Bernays and Reifenstahl understood this long before anyone and most lay people still don't.

Trouble is, they hit a saturation point years ago, primarily among people with no direct knowledge of Hitler, that is, anyone born after WWII. Hitler is an abstraction, therefore, saying "Trump is Hitler" is no more powerful than simply stating "Trump is evil." It's persuasiveness is wholly dependent on the recipients' willingness to take the claim at face value. There is another level to it. Why say "Trump is Hitler" when "Trump is evil" will suffice? This reduces "Trump is Hitler" to sounding more like "Trump is bad, bad scary man!" Hence, why the message is received as childishness by anyone who doesn't believe it.

Rustbelt - What about taxes? Does Hot Plate have policy for taxes? Does Hot Plate even PAY taxes?

I confess that given all the sewage he has spewed I don't get what bothers some of his supporters about Trump's comments to Billy Bush. It's like being shocked at finding bacteria in a garbage can.

It is with a sense of deep resignation I watch these two horrible people vie to become leader of the free world. One of them will win.

The tape began with Trump discussing a failed attempt to seduce a woman. That woman's name was not mentioned in the tape.

"I moved on her and I failed," he said. "I'll admit it."

According to The Post, the tape was recorded several months after he married his third wife, Melania.

"I did try and f--- her," Trump later said. "She was married. ... And I moved on her very heavily. In fact, I took her out furniture shopping. She wanted to get some furniture. I said, 'I'll show you where they have some nice furniture.'"

"I moved on her like a b----, but I couldn’t get there," he continued. "And she was married. Then all of a sudden I see her, she’s now got the big phony t--- and everything. She's totally changed her look."

At that point, Trump and Bush noticed an actress, Arianne Zucker, who was waiting to take them onto the set.

"I've gotta use some tic tacs, just in case I start kissing her," Trump said. "You know I'm automatically attracted to beautiful — I just start kissing them. It's like a magnet. Just kiss. I don't even wait."

"And when you're a star they let you do it," Trump continued. "You can do anything. ... Grab them by the p---y. You can do anything."

Anthony, agreed, it's a huge non-story given who we're dealing with. I don't see anyone besides cowardly pols abandoning Trump over what is essentially locker-room banter. (I know I'm not the first to use that description but it really is the best.)

I think where this finds significance is in it being a total misstep on the part of Clinton and/or her surrogates. Heretofore, it's been generally regarding as a bad move for Trump to bring up Bill's affairs (and worse). To that end, Trump has remained coy on the topic--hinting at it, but never being direct. There's little chance that Clinton won't raise this at tomorrow night's debate. That would give Trump all the reason he needs to let loose.

As always, wait and see.

P.S., I don't think Trump saw this coming in the slightest. We've now seen how he handles an utter shock. He did not implode as anyone regarding Trump as an explosive, impulsive reactionary would've predicted. I'd wager the people who orchestrated the leak are very disappointed tonight.

The Trump tape seems to have kept Hillary telling fat cats she had a public position and a real position (which favors free trade and open borders) out of the news. Fat cat confessionals are the sort of things the public takes very seriously (both did Obama and Romney harm).

The locker room talk is in character for Trump, but it certainly isn't going to help him among white woman (a group he has trouble with).

Trump going after Hillary needs to be Trump going after Hillary for attacking the woman her husband slept with (or tried to) rather than attacking her for having a cheating husband. No matter his avenue of attack, its kind of tricky because Trump and Bill clearly have the same attitude towards women (and both have wives who are willing to tolerate it).

Of course the important distinction is that Hillary didn't merely tolerate it, she belittled the other women even though some were victims of sex assault rather than willing participants.

*Shrugs* Anyway, it will be interesting to read about the debate tomorrow (I cannot stand watching Trump or Hillary talk for any amount of time).

AndrewPrice said...

I'm mentioning this tonight in my article, but generally I would say this:

//sarc on I am horrified... HORRIFIED that a man known for adultery and multiple divorces would oggle a hot chick and talk smack about her. That's just SHOCKING!!! //sarc off

This weekend has been another example of why conservatism is dead. The philosophy is fine, but a huge chunk of its modern adherents are losers.

Anthony, Of course the important distinction is that Hillary didn't merely tolerate it, she belittled the other women even though some were victims of sex assault rather than willing participants.

You would think that would be the position of those on the right, but it's easier to surrender.

Conservatism died when a reality tv show host with a long track record of avidly supporting liberals became the Republican nominee based on conspiracy theories and big government, populist nonsense.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, That's just the consequence of it's death. It died long before that. I died when conservatives decided to start competing for the job of most pure.

BevfromNYC said...

I think you miss the point about the "death of conservativism". We are entering a new age of Victorian, Reformation, etc. style "conservatism", but from the SJW's from our youth. YOu can see it everywhere if you look. Even fashion is changing to a more buttoned up/covered up style. Words are being parsed for their "unconscious" bias and the freedom to speak "freely" is being eroded in an alarming way. The pious social moralists are no different that those of other ages. Buck up little soldiers because the Age of Intolerance Of All Things is nigh. Let's hope our Constitution can hold.

Anthony said...

I'd say the power of communications technology has given people more freedom to speak than ever.

Anonymity makes people tend to behave like jerks and many who speak under their own name fail to distinguish the difference between public media and private life.

Anthony said...

Bragging to a reporter in front of a camera about how one enjoys grabbing women by the pussy and one can do it without consequence because one is famous strikes me as a really evil, dumb thing to do.

While feminists might not distinguish between assault and seduction, normal people certainly should and do. What Trump was talking about sounded like assault to me.

Using what have to get who you want is one thing ('I'm rich and famous, wanna have sex?') using one's position as a shield is another ('I'm rich and famous, no one will believe you or care that I just grabbed you by the pussy against your will!') is another.

*Shrugs* If drawing that distinction makes me a loser, I can live with that :) .

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, the Age of Intolerance Of All Things is nigh.

Sadly, that's true. It's too bad the human race is so stupid.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, Sounds like every douche bag teenager I've come across. And while that doesn't make him someone I would want for president, I'd rather have a braggart than a woman who covers up her husband's rapes, who got people killed and covered it up, who knowingly violates national security and lies about it, and who has a track record of extreme incompetence.

And I really don't want her friends who want to do things that will destroy this country running the courts and the Treasury.
