What I've Been Saying...

Howdy folks! Just a quick thought tonight in this busy week. Lot of kid's medical stuff and we're expecting an apocalyptic snow storm on Wednesday. Good times! Anyways... I've been making the point to you for a long time not to trust that what you see online is real. A handful of people have the ability to create what appears to be a massive public movement. Well, proof of that came up this past week in Britain.

For some time now, the new bride of Prince Harry (Meghan Markle) has been under a withering attack on the Palace's own social media sites. The attacks have been brutal, vile, unrelenting and massive. They have ranged from attacking her looks, her personality, and even spreading a conspiracy theory about her faking her pregnancy.

Well, the Palace did an investigation and discovered that more than 70% of the attacks came from just twenty trolls. Twenty people created this wave of hate so massive that the British media mistook it for a swing in public sentiment. This is exactly what I've been saying. When you see a mass movement of hateful socialists... identity politics trolls... or just whiners slamming everything you hold dear, that's just a handful of idiots in their basements determined to destroy something they despise. It is not indicative of society.

I have looked and looked and looked and I see NO movement in our society or anywhere else that supports the crazies (on either side), that supports the socialists, that accepts the bizarre troll-like dictates of identity politics. They just aren't there. There are a handful of these people, but that's it. In fact, one of the interesting things I've watched is the comment numbers at a place like Yahoo. Yahoo is a wretched hive of scum, villainy and cynical losers, and they love to smear anything and anyone. They spread hate, anger and cynicism everywhere they can. They spew leftist dogma and idiocy. But do you know what? Yahoo lets you thumb comments up and down and these people routinely end up outvoted on the order of 100 to 1. That speaks volumes. Add in what the British found and you hopefully start to see what drives the internet.

You are the majority. These people are freaks. Don't believe that there are more than a tiny number of them.

Beautiful scandal forming. A large group of people, mainly famous and included multiple Hollywood actresses, are being accused by the government of bribery of colleges to get their kids into elite schools.

(1) This is the same crew who have been using #metoo to try to recapture their virtue after selling their bodies to get into movies, and

(2) This is the same crew who support socialists and scream about Trump's kids being children of privilege.

And yet, here they are dirty as can be spending obscene bucks to give their kids an advantage in ways that socialists scream is evil.

This is yet another kick in the teeth of this whole virtue movement going on on the left.

RE: Scandal. Just goes to show that the people who publicly fret the most over things like white privilege are the ones flexing theirs the most.

1) I wouldn't trust the royal palace's claims about the popularity of the royal family. I worked and studied in England for a trimester in the early 1990s and we were shocked at both how obsessed with the royal family the press and public were and how negative the tone of the coverage was (this was the Diane/Charles era). We wondered why the royal family was kept around given that 'everyone' hated them.

A professor told us (and nothing I've ever seen has contradicted his claim) the royal family was a big soap opera in England. People often hate (or love) it and some of the characters, but they love to watch it.

That being said, I agree the internet is often unrepresentative of broader public sentiment. There are a lot of things out there the internet hates or loves that the general public is either fine with or indifferent to.

2) The cheating scandal seems more like a money thing (bankers, lawyers and big actors) than a Hollywood thing.

College admissions is a hazy thing which is influenced by a lot of things including money (academics, athletics, race, gender and fame spring to mind).

Will that change, will some of the haze be burned away? I doubt it. The haze is profitable and comfortable for colleges (most of which are privately run and thus have a good bit of leeway).

I doubt it has any implications for Metoo. As I noted when the movement began it was not so much the state of laws about sexual harassment/rape but powerful guys grabbing pussy (or dick for some of them) and their employers and fans looking the other way.

That was a phenomena for a very long time so I expect Metoo to remain a thing for a while. There is not flood of public allegations that happened initially but there continues to be a steady stream.

Recently Martha McSally came forward and alleged she had been raped by a superior officer in the Air Force.

https://www.foxnews.com/politics/arizona-gop-sen-martha-mcsally-says-she-was-raped-in-air-force-by-a-superior-officer

Sen. Martha McSally, the first female fighter pilot to fly in combat, disclosed during an emotional Senate hearing on Wednesday she was "preyed upon and then raped" in the Air Force by a superior officer.
The Arizona Republican, who served 26 years in the Air Force, made the disclosure during a Senate hearing on sexual assault allegations in the military. McSally said she didn't report the assault because she didn't trust the system, and was ashamed and confused.

“My drive to fight against sexual assault in the ranks is not from the outside looking in," McSally began. "And it is deeply personal."
McSally said that during her military career, she was "greatly privileged to prepare and then lead my amazing Airmen in combat, which is the apex responsibility of any warrior leader."
But, McSally added that she had also "witnessed so many weaknesses in the processes involving sexual assault prevention, investigation, and adjudication," which motivated her "to make recommendations to Air Force leaders, shaped my approach as a commander, and informed my advocacy for change while I remained in the military and since I have been in Congress."

tryanmax, That's the message that's been coming out lately in a series of scandals actually. In the past year or two, the elite left has really been exposed in a series of scandals, indictments and failures. Everything from AOC's hypocrisies to this new college scandal has shown that the elite left is totally guilty of the things they claim to be evil.

Anthony, I don't recall calling it a Hollywood scandal, though that is how the media is treating it, so you might want to go tell them they are wrong. What it is is an elitist scandal.

#metoo is dead. It's become like the Masons, just a club for the like minded with no power or influence.

I love this. Elizabeth Faux-cohontis Warren says she has no sympathy for the people who have been caught in the college admissions scandal.

Don Jr. Trump responded, "Yeah, it's not like they faked being a minority to get in."

That's hilarious!

So we set all kinds of records the past two days. The winds were equivalent of a Category 2 hurricane. Many trees downed everywhere.

The idiots were out in full force. Now their cars are dotting the roads and highways (most of which remain closed for a second day). The state sent out the national guard to get these people from their cars.

There isn't that much snow, but what there is turned to ice and everything is a tad icy today. The "snow" in our driveway had the consistency of shoveling gravel. Heart attack city on that one.

Tomorrow will be 60, so it will all vanish.

We had about two feet of snow accumulation on the ground as of Friday. By Monday, it was nearly gone. Or should I say, it relocated to my basement and lots of other folks’, too.

That stinks. Sorry to hear it.
