A few weeks ago I reported that poor dear Hollywood actor Shia LeBeouf has become so unhinged since Trump was elected that he talked the Museum of the Moving Image in Queens, NYC to allow him to set up a political protest performance aahht installation called "He Will Not Divide Us", which was comprised of a 24/7 video feed available for anyone to shout "HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US! over and over. As you may remember, it didn't go well so he had to move it to New Mexico [UPDATED from Arizona]. Well that didn't go well either, so he moved it to some "undisclosed location". The live video feed only showed his big black and white flag hailing "HE WILL NOT DIVIDE US!" waving in the wind and bit of sky so no one could find it and ruin his masterpiece of protest.
Okay, so apparently there are lots of people who just don't have enough to do, so they went on what is the best "Capture The Flag" adventure ever! This is the funniest thing I have seen lately.
Now some "stuff":
My brand of "feminism" is more "Lysistrata" and less "Playboy". So, what is wrong with young actress these day who think they are empowering themselves and other women by getting naked or nearly naked? And when called on it, they get offended when it is pointed out that maybe getting naked or nearly naked is (sorry, guys) exactly what men have always wanted women to do! How being fooled by the "evil patriarchy" is that? "Yey! Naked Boobs! We WIN AGAIN!".
So "bless her heart"*, Emma Watson of Harry Potter fame who is opening Friday in yet another version of "Beauty And The Beast" the fairytale to Disney cartoon to Disney live-action Broadway Musical to Disney live-action movie musical (with the extra hook of a gay character...who cares). So as part of the publicity blitz, Ms. Watson, a vocal womyn's rights activist, did a spread for Vanity Fair magazine where she appears all but topless. To her great surprise and confusion, "Feminists" criticized her for objectifying women by getting nearly naked! I understand her confusion. As she explains when criticized:
The floor is open.
*Just for the record, when a Southern women use "Bless your heart", we mean something entirely different.

“Feminism is about giving women choice. Feminism is not a stick with which to beat other women with. It’s about freedom, it’s about liberation, it’s about equality. I really don’t know what my tits have to do with it. It’s very confusing."I understand her confusion. Yes, it is about "choice". It has always been about "choice". But the "choice" that women have been fighting for is to be taken seriously for their minds and capabilities and not the sum total of their body parts. The whole "body parts" thing is, to quote a line from "Beauty And The Beast, "a tale as old as time".
The floor is open.

I for one, feel that Emma should walk around bare chested in public all the time. My sentiments are not commentary on whether or not she feels vindicated and empowered by doing so - I'm just a dirty old man.
The leftist obsession with "bodies" disturbs me. They use the word all the time in ways I'd never think to.
4chan definitely went all out to troll LaBeouf, didn't they? It was entertaining and a bit unsettling to see them use everything from car horn Marco Polo to constellations to track it down. Still, I can't blame them for having some fun at an unhinged actor who was always a bit of a joke's expense. The whole photoshoot controversy was worth a quick chuckle and headshake, too, especially in light of Emma's confused response, and the Beauty and the Beast controversy had been making the rounds on social media, too. The whole thing smells of a cynical publicity move to me and with the Vanity Fair mess in there, too, I wonder if they're lacking confidence in the movie. It should sell itself just fine without the controversies so I wonder what's going on there.

LL; She's a little young for me and I watched her with my kids in the Harry Potter movies so I can't go with you in this specific case but I support you in principle;). When I was in the police academy back in 1990 it was a very hot summer, even by summertime standards. We had to run a mile and a half every day and most of the time the guys would end up with their shirts off. One of the women complained that it was unfair because we could take our shirts off and they couldn't. Our response was that we were all feminists and believed in equal opportunity. The issue kind of died :( As for the Shia LaBoef thing. I think that ranks up there with the Entebbe raid!
GypsyTyger
People still think that Shia LeBoeuf is an actor, interesting....
First...SNOW DAY!!! Yey!!
LL: See, you proved my point! And shame on you for looking, btw. But seriously, I don't get where women think that this is doing something brave and unique. If that were true, there wouldn't be an entire of porn/strip club industry. Well, and now pretty much every historical "drama" on Netflix is just a vehicle for sex scenes. And isn't this why "Game of Thrones" is so popular? A few battle scenes and intrigue inbetween the vast number of "empowered" naked women? Look, I'm no prude, but sometimes it's just ridiculous and laughable.
SPOILER ALERT: And as for GOT, when they killed off Sean Bean, the show was dead to me!
T-Max - Yeah, the left is very infantile that way with their obsession with bodily functions.
Daniel: I agree with your take. The whole Emma Watson naked magazine cover/exploition is just a ploy for wrapping the opening of the movie with "controversy" for free publicity. And it works every single time. But it is cloaked in the guise of "empowerment" and just one more example of interjecting politics in yet another corner of our world.
GyspyTyger - that is the schtick, if men can do it, why can't women? But the bottom line is that it's just sheer exhibitionism. I get it, but there are more pressing issues for women than the "right to go topless". Actually in NYC it's quite legal and so women it do for shock value. But to their great dismay, this is NYC so no one cares.
Except for this. It would be brave and empowering if it wasn't someone with a perfect body which is happening more and more, or a woman with the scars of a mastectomy.
Critch - To be perfectly honest, LeBeouf is seriously in need of help. His real friends or family should intervene.
Bev, not just functions, but they use phrases like "black and brown bodies" that are just weird.
Tryanmax, yes, it is their irrational need to put everyone in their prescribe "group" or "tribe" to point out those who refuse to go quietly into their box, and for better sweeping generalities. It would be great if it were in the style of Tom Lehrer... Lehrer-ish...https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zCluI87gQ3I But it isn't.
Bev, I was referring more to the gay character part as driving more of the social media controversy, actually, at least from my corner of Facebook. Your reply still holds for both parts of it, though. For whatever it's worth I've been getting to the point where I just roll my eyes and tune out obvious publicity seeking along these lines.

WEATHER UPDATE: Because I know ALL of you are worried about the snow cover in NYC, the center of the known and unknown universe...the 4" of snow has turned to sleet and the temperature is dropping. ICE-STORMAGGEDON!!! HOW WILL WE SURVIVE???
End of UPDATE.
Bev, I laughed when I read that she had basically gone topless. What a dipstick! Feminism has pushed so hard about being anti-beauty, anti-femininity and anti-sexuality... anything men like is evil, topless/Playboy is oppression, etc. And then she does that. Dumbass.
On the movie, I've seen several reviews which said she was a weak link in the film and which suggest that the gay stuff was meant to create controversy. Frankly, Disney's live action stuff has really underwhelmed, so I won't be surprised if this stinks.
P.S. Watch out for the abominable snowman!
Well, Andrew, it's gone from the Abominable Snowman to The Iceman Cometh. BUT I did get a "snow day", so I am good!
However, why do meteorologists get away with getting everything wrong and are never held legally liable??? If any other field had that track records, they'd be sued! I demand more accountability! An Amendment to the Costitution! This whole issue has triggered me...I need a cupcake.
As for Ms Watson - I get it. But feminism is gotten so screwy. As a member of the feminine species (am I allowed to say that?), it should be about "choice". If she wants to go topless, hurray! There is no need to justify it. Don't do it as the arbiter of "feminism". And women are hateful to each other and are just jealous.
Our local weatherman gets all crazy over weather...he is getting on my last nerve.
Snoop Dogg is suffering from a truly impressive case of Trump derangement syndrome. In a music video he points a toy gun at a clown Trump and pulls the trigger.
Lots of rappers have spewed at lots of presidents but the shooting one on video thing is new. It's pretty bad when Ice 'Cop Killer' T calls out your video for going too far.
I'm all for Watson posing nude although her nipples and crotch shots are all over the internet, if you look hard enough. I found it more amusing that she has become a spokesman (ya, I used it because it is a real word) for Fur Oil. Guess what that's for? To each her own.
As for global warming induced climate change induced winter storm Stella, um, it is still winter so how is this news? And I am sick of them naming winter storms.
