Going Nowhere...

Some interesting poll numbers out today. They don't bode well for the left.
(1) 43% of Americans approve of Trump's handling of the economy. 41% disapprove.

(2) Only 37% of Americans say the Democratic Party "stands for something," while 52% say it just stands against Trump.

(3) Voter enthusiasm is the same for both Parties.

(4) The Democrats are seen as 42% favorable, 48% unfavorable. This is the same as before the election.

(5) His support among Republicans is the third highest in the past 60 years.
What makes all of this interesting is that the Democrats have been waging a War on Trump that is unprecedented. They have smeared and slimed and lied and flat out made up. They've attacked his kids, his supporters and his cabinet choices. They are ALL on the attack constantly, from every corner of their silly cult... Hollywood, media, social media, colleges, the parties, etc. This is a propaganda push that would have made the Nazis blush with its lack of subtlety and it's fueled by derangement. And yet, these numbers suggest that it's utterly failed.
1. Trump is no less popular with his supporters.
2. The Democrats haven't gained an ounce of popularity. If anything, they've lost support!
3. Their derangement doesn't even transfer to an enthusiasm boost.
How pathetic is that?

The corrupt, elite, smug, lying, nasty mainstream media is failing in its mission post-election in the same way that it failed Hillary.

Good.

1) Those numbers mean little. Historically this early in first term presidencies presidents are pretty popular, and their opposition is pretty unpopular. Obama was at 58% at this stage in the game.

2) The fact that Trump's defense has no longer become 'Its not true' but 'It doesn't matter, voters don't care' is technically true at this stage in the game, but does not bode well. A variant of that excuse is invariably trotted out by scandal plagued administrations in recent times. Its always caught up with them in the end (though it doesn't keep charismatic presidents from serving two terms).

3) As I've said before, Republicans' worst wounds are self inflicted. They are not getting stuff passed legislatively and Trump is at war with his own Justice Department (unsurprisingly people with years of experience and respect become incompetent hacks once they demonstrate they are not personally loyal to Trump).

Democrats still don't take national security seriously.

Imran Awan, his two brothers, two of their wives, and two friends, all worked for various members of Congress, but routinely missed weekly meetings and were reported to have been transferring data to an off-site server.

When Imran learned he was under investigation in February he abruptly moved out of his home in Virginia and listed it for rent on a website catering to members of the military.

One of new tenants — a Marine Corps veteran married to a female Navy Officer — said he found “wireless routers, hard drives that look like they tried to destroy, laptops, [and] a lot of brand new expensive toner.”

The tenants called the Naval Criminal Investigative Service, and not long after, FBI agents arrived together with the Capitol Police to interview them and confiscate the equipment. The Marine spoke on condition of anonymity because of concerns for his wife’s naval career, saying she doesn’t want to be associated with a national security incident.

No president in my lifetime has been blasted the way Trump has, much less blasted as much from both sides. The Right is treating Trump the way the Left treated Bush 43, and the Left has gone completely feral. Both sides are drunk on fantasies that Trump is going to implode any day now.

I've got no words for the Democrats, but I'm removed of all illusions that the GOP has any competence whatsoever. Trump is a lightning rod—they have complete cover to do whatever they please—but all they can think to do is join the storm and hurl bolts, too. Pathetic.

Tryanmax,

No president in my lifetime has blasted the way Trump has, much less blasted both sides. Funny how that works out. I agree anyone who thinks Trump is going anywhere is kidding themselves.

Interesting stuff, especially when you consider that the polls still likely have a notable leftward skew. The numbers that grabbed my attention in particular were the 52% saying the Democrats had no agenda beyond opposing Trump vs. the 37% that believe they do have some kind of agenda. I remember how much you've emphasized that you can't beat something with nothing, Andrew, which is perhaps why it stood out to me. Overall it's a good picture of how the left and the Democrats are wearing themselves out with their screaming and fever swamp ravings and not accomplishing anything. May they continue to not learn.

Charlie Gard's parents have given up their legal fight because the window for the treatment to help him has closed. He is not expected to live much longer.

http://www.bbc.com/news/uk-england-40708343.

A lawyer representing Chris Gard and Connie Yates told the High Court "time had run out" for the baby.
Mr Gard said it meant his "sweet, gorgeous, innocent little boy" will not reach his first birthday on 4 August.
"To let our beautiful little Charlie go" is "the hardest thing we'll ever have to do", his mother said.
Charlie's parents said they made the decision because a US doctor had told them it was now too late to give Charlie nucleoside therapy.

Anthony, fair point. Coming off that, from my vantage, the charge that Trump is exceptionally thin skinned has a lot of projection behind it, especially as pertains to talking heads.

Trump is good for ratings.

http://variety.com/2017/tv/news/cable-news-ratings-cnn-fox-news-msnbc-q2-1202479416/

The viewership spike for cable news shows no signs of slowing down. Fox News, CNN, and MSNBC all saw double-digit ratings growth across the board for the second quarter of 2017, according to Nielsen data.
Driven by surges for “The Rachel Maddow Show” and “Last Word With Lawrence O’Donnell,” MSNBC is up a whopping 86% in total viewers in primetime compared to second-quarter 2016. CNN saw a 39% leap in adults 25-54 in total day. Fox News’ “Tucker Carlson Tonight” and MSNBC’s “Rachel Maddow” split the crown for most-watched cable news program in primetime, with Carlson winning in total viewers and Maddow taking the demo.
In total day, Fox News led with 1.47 million total viewers, up 27% from the same period last year. Of those, 314,000 fell in the adults 25-54 demographic, up 46% from last year. MSNBC was second in total viewers with 886,000, up 73%. MSNBC was third in total day in the demo, however, with 206,000 for an increase of 57%. CNN was third in total viewers with 788,000 for an increase of 25%, but second in the demo with 262,000 (up 39%).

Hi Folks! Sorry for the lack of comments. My leg injury got infected, of course, so I spent the day getting that looked at.

Daniel, I think these numbers are amazing in what they show. They have launched an unrivaled smear campaign and yet they can't move the needle. That really shows a high level of contempt for them among the public.

AndrewPrice said...

LL, I think it's the over-the-top aspect that makes this easy for people to ignore.

Anthony and tryanmax, Trump is an ass. Of that there is no doubt. But the response to him has been shocking, even considering that he is an ass. It is truly evidence of emotional instability on the left.

ArgentGale said...

Ouch... Sorry to hear about your leg. I was wondering if it had been acting up again, actually. Feel better soon in any case, Andrew!

There's not much else I can add to the main topic at this point. Emotional instability is right, though...
