Another One On The Pile

So thousands of half-educated, hormonal morons are protesting gun violence today, as if the rest of us think gun violence is fun and dandy. What do they want? To get out of school, man. Of wait, I mean, somethingsomething guns so that no one ever kills anyone ever again. Ignore that fact that time would be better spent befriending the kids they bullied so no one would want to kill anyone else, but hey, that's like hard compared to "day off + somethingsomething guns."

Anyways, this makes me happy. Why? Because I will soon be able to update my list of idiot leftist "movements" that were stillborn:
Occupy Wall Street (Slogan: somethingsomething socialism + tents)

Black Lives Matter (Slogan: somethingsomething down with whitey)

Million Woman March (Slogan: somethingsomething Starbucks!)

#MeToo (Slogan: power to the hypersensitive, evading blame for rape abetters)
That's a lot of failure right there! And now we can add: Against School Shootings (ASS) (Slogan: Uh... like stuff.) Good times.

Thoughts?

It’s pointless but at least it is only scheduled to be 17 minutes. So roughly half an hour of lost time.

Teenagers around the world continually stage protests against and for things both trivial and monumental with varying levels of success.

So long as they aren’t vandalizing stuff or hurting people it’s nothing to get worked up about.

Anthony, I agree. Our youngest went because she would follow her friends off a cliff and going is the "in" thing. I'm not worried. This "movement" has a 0.0% chance of changing anything. So big deal.

But I do think it's funny that the left is holding all these rallies, each time telling themselves that they are changing the world, and nothing is coming out of them. Bad strategy. Good for America.

Our oldest, on the other hand, is her own little person and will not bend to anyone. I love it. :)

The Pennsylvania race Trump was stumping for has gone down to the wire (at the second the Dem is ahead, but there are still uncounted votes) which means there has been a twenty point swing towards the Dems (last year the average swing was 16 points).

Like with every local election local factors came into play but despite the strong economy 2018 is shaping up to be a tough year.

Anthony, The only thing I could say pro-GOP on that is that the Democrats seemed like the objectively better candidate. He wasn't pro-Pelosi. He's an ex-Marine. He's pro-guns. And this is a good time to make an anti-incumbent (Trump) statement.

That said, this does seem to be a bad omen to me.

Oh man, I really stepped in it with a certain segment of twitter when I stated that David Hogg strikes me as the sort of kid who would bully someone to the point of wanting to shoot up a school.

It was apparently trashy and classless of me to stoop to Hogg's level because his behavior doesn't justify mine. Hmm, is that right? I note a lack of disagreement with my main premise, even as they disagree with the way I said it. Maybe they see the same thing I do.

I think you hit it right on the head when you said this was the best thing that ever happened to him.

My niece shared this yesterday from her local high school in Haleyville, AL:

Parents: As many of you are aware, school safety is a top concern across our nation. Tomorrow, March 14, has been named as a day to remember the 17 teachers and students who lost their lives in the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School last month. Haleyville High School is a place where all students come to learn and build skills for a better tomorrow. We also believe in creating a culture of trust and respect for all who enter our doors. With those things in mind, we want to challenge our students and adults to see 3/14 as an HHS Walk Up Day. Students and faculty members are encouraged to have conversation with or do acts of kindness for 3 adults and 14 students that are not in their current friend circle. We could all do a better job of connecting with others, and what better way to memorialize the victims of the Florida shooting than to reach out to those around us? Thank you for partnering with us to help make our Walk Up Day a success. #HHSROAR

I love it! It's wonderful to show some respect for the victims of the Florida shooting with a few moments of silence, but something like this has a far better chance of changing a school's environment and preventing more violence.

Oh, and I was disappointed to discover that when they redrew the lines for the 18th district, they drew it about 2 or 3 miles from where I live which leaves us in District 12. Had we been included, there would have been quite a few I know of that would have voted for Saccone.

Stacy, Whoa! So there's been a redistricting issue in the meantime? That is something I haven't heard anything about. I wonder how much that changed the landscape?

Stacy, That's really nice about the school.

My wife told our youngest that she should go befriend someone who doesn't have a lot friends. Unfortunately, she's very much a herd follower (I'm working on her to fix that) and the herd wanted to do something useless today. So that's all they did. And now she's forgotten about it.

My older one is very different. She is "Nestor" if you know the Christmas story. She is constantly finding outcasts and adding them to her little friend group. She's essentially created a gang of about 15 awkward kids now and they are hilarious when they get together. I'm so proud of her! She is going to change the world one day.

If more people acted like her, I can guarantee you that the world would be a lot less angry, lonely place and a lot of people would never turn to evil.

To avoid ambiguity, I meant "Nestor the Long-eared Donkey." LINK

He goes around collecting outcasts and doing good deeds until he guides Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem.

Interestingly, the 17 minutes of silence apparently turned ugly at my kid's high school today. Two groups started shouting at each other -- the leftist kids even made threats using the word "kill" (from kids supposedly opposed to violence). Then several got into a brawl. Ugly.

Stacy said...

LOL....I knew who Nester was! I used to love that one, well, except for the part where his mom freezes to death.

Your daughter sounds like a gem. I hope she does change the world. And that younger one...give it time. Or not. One of mine is a conservative, the other is about as liberal as it gets.

So sad about the behavior at the school.

Oh, and the redistricting? Yes, it's been a thing. Here's a link. https://www.newsmax.com/politics/us-pennsylvania-election-redistricting/2018/03/14/id/848742/

AndrewPrice said...

Stacy, I love them both, but the older one is an amazing little person... the younger one is evil.

The older one is intensely conservative and super rational, but also wants to save everyone and everything. She has such a big heart and actually sets about doing it. She surprises us all the time with things she's done or things she's signed up to do.

Thanks for the link! That's interesting.

You're older girl sounds like I was. I was a do-gooder, but broke ranks with my entire extended family to become the first Republican when I was 18. Funny, it wasn't the big deal it is now. My family still loved me and I them.

AndrewPrice said...

Stacy, I'm glad you became a Republican! :)
