News Round Up

All right, we are in a very, very slow news period as we wait to see what immigration reform will look like and how Obama’s gun regulation scheme will prove to be a paper frosted tiger. So let’s do a news roundup and talk about a few random things.

Moving to Texas: Rick Perry sent out letters to gun companies in states like Colorado and Connecticut where Democratic legislatures have passed anti-gun ownership laws. He’s apparently bagged his first prize: Colt Competition of Oregon, who make high-accuracy AR-15-type rifles for shooting competitions. Others may soon follow. Several gun equipment makers in Colorado have claimed they will leave as well, but we’ll see if they do. Let’s hope they do because it’s time to show people that legislative stupidity has consequences. And losing jobs is the best way to show that. Speaking of jobs...

Jobs, Jobs, Jobs: The jobs report was ugly. The media tried half-heartedly to blame this on sequestration, but no one believes that because almost no one feels the effects of that. Others blame it on seasonal hiring, which is more likely the case. In the end though, bad economic performance falls on the president and his party. The media is trying to deflect this, but when the best they can say is, “both parties should be embarrassed by the latest depressing jobs report,” then you know they know they have problems.

Right now, people are worried that the next three years of Obama won’t be any better than the first four. And there’s really no reason they should be. None of the things holding back the economy have changed. Basically Obama tossed some money out the window of his car as drove through the streets, that didn’t work and now he’s begging for gas money to do it again. No one has considered finding ways to lower the cost of labor or to make working more profitable. Maybe it’s time for a change? Maybe it’s time for Hillary...

Hillary Clinton: The leftist media is starting to go all fan-boy over the prospect of Hillary running for President in 2016. Indeed, many of the articles I’ve seen on this are practically orgasmic:
“It was another week in American politics highlighted by the overwhelming and deep yearning by Democrats that Hillary should run for president in 2016, and the overwhelming and powerful support she would receive from Americans if she does.”
Yeah, everyone would love our Goddess... unlike that black guy, that pretend-messiah who can’t solve our problems. In fact, this particular article said something that struck me as rather interesting on this very point:
“It would be spectacular if Bill and Hillary Clinton would work with the Clinton Global Initiative to devise major new jobs proposals.”
This is interesting because it suggests that our slobbering author has given up hope that Obama will solve the jobs crisis, doesn’t it? And if Hillary can come up with a jobs plan as this hack believes, then why doesn’t the hack want Hillary sharing this with Obama? Why hope that Hillary waits to unveil it in her own run? I’d say the media crush is shifting to Hillary.

In fact, in the past few weeks there have been a series of things that make me think the media is done with Obama. There’s been a ton of coverage of the failures of Obamacare. There’s been extensive coverage of Obama’s “gaffe” of complimenting a chick attorney general on her looks. There’s been coverage of how big business is raking in the cash from Obama’s programs. There’s been coverage about Obama’s gun push failing because he didn’t really plan it right. And there’s been a lot of anger about the jobs report directed at “both parties.” These aren’t things that would have been covered in the past and the fact they are now suggests that the media is ready to be harsher on him.

Back to Hillary, the only real question right now is whether or not rank and file leftist fruitcakes are on the same page as the limousine media leftists. I have my doubts. So while it looks like Hillary will be anointed the heiress apparent to the pretend messiah by the media, I’m not so sure she’s going to do all that well in the primaries.

At least there’s only one Clinton, right? Uh...

Spawn of Clintons: As if this will surprise anyone, Chelsea is now dropping hints that she might one day very soon be interested in being handed an elective office. Shocker! I’d rather vote for a Kardashian.

Anything I missed?

At least Chelsea is easier to look at than her mother.

Which is about as backhanded as a compliment can get.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I'm not even sure of that. Chelsea looks a lot like a Muppet to me.

tryanmax said...

At least she outgrew looking like a female version of her dad. Not even a Democrat should have to spend her awkward teen years in the public spotlight.

tryanmax said...

Besides, Muppets are cute...in a safe, androgynous sort of way.

AndrewPrice said...

I would have more sympathy for her being in the spotlight if the left didn't do it to conservative kids all the time and if the left didn't hold her up and slobber all over her like some kind of princess. If the Clinton's were going to shield her, then I'm not going to feel sorry for her.

You know, I have to say that is one area where I do give Obama some props, in that he rarely lets his kids be seen in public.

"in a safe, androgynous sort of way" LOL! True, you rarely see Muppets in pornos.

The Hillary cult of personality has been spitting mad at the Obama cult of personality since the Clintons got accused of racism for criticizing the chosen one. One possible outcome of this is a meaningful number of black voters sitting the next election out.

AndrewPrice said...

K, I think that's true and from what I'm seeing, the Clinton Cult dominates the media, but the Obama Cult dominates the interest groups. So it makes for an interesting fight.

As an aside, I still have to laugh at how over the top and vaguely sexual so much of what I'm seeing written about Hillary is by the left. This goes way beyond just seeing her as a good politician.

sadly, I wouldn't necessarily bet against the Hildebeast. The feminists love her to death and resent how she got screwed out of "her turn." Add to that the continuing failure of the R's to come up with solutions or charismatic solutions .... of course there is a long way to go so there is a lot of water yet to spill under the political bridge.

AndrewPrice said...

Jed, Sadly, these are great times to be a Democrat since the conservative world has gone politically suicidal. Hopefully, our side will come around at some point. :)

T-Rav said...

Good on Texas for extending this opportunity. Sadly for Andrew, this may only mean that more of the sensible Coloradans will pack up and leave for better waters.

As for the jobs report and what it means for the public mindset, I really couldn't care less. If they're that worried about the future, they had their chance.

AndrewPrice said...

T-Rav, I get the feeling things won't change in Colorado for a long time unless the Republicans do something to really change themselves -- which they won't. Even locally, they are going in the wrong direction.

Didn't Chelsea try her hand in the news?
I think she left because she had less appeal than milk toast.
We are happy to have a number of gun manufacturers in Arizona. But sadly we missed our opportunity to get rid of state income taxes back in the nineties.

We have to remember it was Hillary pushing for national health care. She would take Obama's plan and run with it. After all it's what she wanted to do. Thus loosing the house and senate for the Dems. But these are different times who knows what nonsense she would try to pull today. I wish the Clinton's would go away, those people are tiring.

Good luck in Colorado Andrew, ban guns, approve dope. I know, we have the stupid dope crap here. That group sure mobilized to pot legal, when you think about it, it sure is out of character. But then it's easy to trick politicians when they think there is money involved.

Perhaps they all think like Mr. Hand. If you get my reference.

I don't think negative media coverage of Obama means much. There were a lot of 2012 articles about the media turning on Obama. Every so often some conservative site would say 'Ohmigod, did you see that article by CNN/MSNBC/NYT/WP/Politico? They are rats leaving a sinking ship!'. After Obama won reelection then those articles got memory-holed and the consensus became that the media had never turned on him.

Let me be clear in stating that in I was as guilty as anyone of that sort of thinking.

I think the media's disenchantment is in small part real (Obama hasn't been the liberal equivalent of Reagan) in large part feigned (Obama isn't running in 2016, Hillary is) and I also think that when it really matters they will back him.

As for Hillary Clinton, I don't have much respect for her as politician but as I've noted before, minority or female politicians often induce the other side to show their ass (Palin's biggest contribution to the party is the vitriol she has been attacked with by some liberals).

I can see a high profile idiot (no names need be said) triggering a sort of rally round the flag effect by attacking Hillary the wrong way (nods towards Bill Clinton's comparison of Obama to Jesse Jackson).

Of course, the Democrats might have the opportunity to show their ass in 2016 (nods towards Rubio).

I think that the death and life of Margaret Thatcher - or even Annette Funicello - is of more importance, gravitas, and interest than the most of this list...

tryanmax said...

Anthony, I'm still convinced that prior to the election, most Democrats and leftists expected Obama to lose. So, in effect, the rats were preparing to jump as they thought the ship was sinking. When the ship righted, they all climbed back aboard and of course they memory-holed the dissent b/c liberals never admit an error.

Aside from reelection, Democrats obsess over "legacy" and Obama's is meant to be the care, or lack thereof, which bears his name. Yet every day in the news are stories of hidden "surprises" which please the public none too much. In other words, Obama's legacy already stands to suck and it'll be hard to accuse sick people on waiting lists of an elaborate racist ploy to smear a former exec. If Hillary is the next champion, it will be b/c she will be the one who can "fix" ObamaCare.

BevfromNYC said...

Okay, you've got to give Gov. Perry props for being aggressively courting businesses to Texas. He has been a busy little Longhorn...

Dear Lord, can't we NOT have people campaigning for President yet? And that includes Obama who is travelling around doing fundraisers still!

And frankly,Hillary needs to just say "I'm running". The "will she/won't she" act she does every single time she runs for something has gotten really old and tiresome. BTW - what happened to that "health scare" she had a few months ago that kept her from testifying about Benghazi? Also btw - She's got Cuomo all in a tizzy 'cause he thought this would be HIS time.

Oh, and does Biden REALLY think that he could possibly win if he ran? Seriously??

rlaWTX: I think that the death and life of Margaret Thatcher - or even Annette Funicello - is of more importance, gravitas, and interest than the most of this list...

I agree about importance and gravitas, but I'm quite interested in which tinpot tyrant is next on the list to take the country the next peg down on the banana republic scale. Those 401k retirement funds aren't going to confiscate themselves.

BevfromNYC said...

Oh, btw, did anyone read that Kim Jong Un is going to bomb us tomorrow? I'm not so concerned about NYC because we weren't on his list, but if you were say, the US Ambassador to South Korea who has been on vacation, you might want to make a plan...

Anthony said...

tryanmax,

Perhaps, but through 2012 the media was much harder on Romney than Obama, so in retrospect less weight should have been given to the existence of negative articles about Obama and more weight given to the fact that Romney still got much more negative coverage.

As for a healthcare plan the public doesn't like being Obama's legacy, I agree. I'm not sure how it will play in 2016 though. The old system wasn't universally loved either (if it was then we'd be talking about President Romney).

BevfromNYC said...

rlaWTX and K - I find it very interesting all of the vitriol directed at Thatcher's passing. I read they had to shut down her official website because of the hateful outpouring of glee at her death by the Lefties and Unionists in Britain. As best I can tell, they just didn't like the fact that she was the adult in the room who said "No! Now get to work or go to bed without your supper!". She was also the one who kept them from joining the disasterous EU thereby saving their currency from being sucked into the void.

Anthony said...

Bev,

I've heard people talk about Cuomo my entire adult life (I'm 38). Never understood why. One would think if his time was going to come, it would have came.

AndrewPrice said...

Max, She did in fact try her hand at the news for a few weeks and the Clinonistas declared her infallible even as other liberal journalists were calling her a disaster.

Yeah, Colorado has become a bit of a mess, which is a real shame. Unfortunately, that won't change because the Republicans are all Rick Santorum clones and have made themselves intolerable for the state.

tryanmax said...

Anthony, but it's normal for the media to be hard on Republican candidates. People naturally attach more meaning to acts that are unusual, so it only makes sense to put the weight on that, even in retrospect. And on that note, what was also unusual is the amount of negative coverage Romney got from his own side.

BevfromNYC said...

Anthony - You probably heard about Mario Cuomo. He was Gov. of NY for 12 years in the late '70's and '80s. I'm talking about Andrew Cuomo - The Son of Mario. He's our Gov now and ready for Primetime. Because Democrats aren't dynastic like Repblicans at all, he not only is the son of a prominent Dem, he married (then divorced) a Kennedy. [They divorced because SHE was cheating. See, it's not just the Kennedy males who cheat. How liberated of them!] He just assumed it was going to be his time and that he would be the next nominee for President because well, he is a Cuomo who married a Kennedy.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, I absolutely remember those articles, but there are two points to consider:

1. Obama lost nine million votes, so you can't say that everyone turning on him didn't have an effect.

2. This time the "turning on him" is different. Prior to the election, they attacked him from the left... "you didn't do enough socialism." This time, it's more that they are treating him with disdain and they are now reporting "little annoyances" they didn't report before. That means that whereas prior to 2012, he had to deal with whackos screaming at him, this time he has to deal with a steady stream of constant criticism which will be more painful for his personal image. It's the difference between "you aren't bold enough" and "you're an incompetent jerk." I think you're going to find an increased level of frustration with him and the beginnings of contempt.

I also think what you will see is the media will stop paying attention to him and make him a lame duck as they switch to Hillary's cult.

AndrewPrice said...

rlaWTX, True.

Anthony said...

tryanmax,

That's true. Its pretty amazing that Romney got less support than McCain did.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, I think that's right. I agree that the Democrats were ready to abandon ship if he lost and then take him down for any number of sins. Now that's he's back they seem to have stopped that, but I don't see the love they had for him in the past.

When Reagan won in 1984, everybody felt happy that we would have continuity and things would keep on getting better. Nobody worried about 1988. This time, it seems that the victory didn't bring a honeymoon, and the Democrats are starting to "yearn" for 2016.

I also agree about his legacy. He tried to create several in his first term and they all failed to catch on. So he's now stuck with Obamacare and that's being attacked every day by the Democrats now.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, "a busy little longhorn" LOL! Nice. I give him a lot of credit for sending those letters. That was smart.

Biden really does think he can win because he thinks he's got media immunity. He doesn't realize that his immunity ends the moment he enters the primary.

I still think it will be Cuomo. Hillary reminds me of teams that declare themselves "the dream team" and get all the big names... they fall flat on their faces.

tryanmax said...

Anthony, and one more thought in retrospect: the last election pretty much ended up being all about who sucked less. Both sides were taking it from their own quite a bit. I guess it just goes to show how influential right-wing media has become. Pthzzz!

AndrewPrice said...

P.S. The health scare is now forgotten, now that she's evaded responsibility for lax security.

AndrewPrice said...

P.S.S. Bev, I've sent you an e-mail. :)

AndrewPrice said...

K, Those 401k retirement funds aren't going to confiscate themselves.

LOL! Bravo! :)

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, This is the strangest start to a war ever, isn't it? I suspect, however, that China has told him to stop... he's grounded.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, You've put your finger on the problem: Obamacare stunk, but the Republicans offered nothing better. Until that changes, I think Obama will continue to wheeze along causing havoc.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, That's honestly why I will never show any respect for a dead leftist. They don't deserve it the rotten bastards.

AndrewPrice said...

tryanmax, Our side did a tremendous amount of damage to Romney... all in the name of saving him. With friends like those, it's no wonder the Democrats manage to cling to power.

Anthony said...

Andrew,

1. I'm not convinced the media defections meant anything. I suspect what mattered to most voters was the sorry state of the economy (a reality people don't need to read a newspaper to learn about).

2. Most of the attacks still seem to be from the left (attacks for praising the looks of a women, taking corporate cash, not being aggressive enough on gun control) but maybe you're right and this is a major turning point. Time will tell.

AndrewPrice said...

Bev, The left loves to appoint God-like dynasties, so I see 2016 as being between Cuomo and Clinton unless someone comes from out of the blue. I still give the inside track to Cuomo because Hillary just isn't a very good politician.

AndrewPrice said...

Anthony, The attacks will come from the left because that's who our media is. I'm just saying that this time, it's a qualitative difference. Last time it was:

"I love you, but you aren't aiming high enough!"

This time it's:

"You really are a jerk."

I think this explains why he was able to have low job approval ratings before but maintain his personal popularity. I also think it means his personal popularity is going to plunge.

As for the media swinging the election, I do agree with you. Media bias is only a marginal issue, it isn't the real driver, and what killed Obama was the economy and the fact there seemed to be no benefits out of his powergrabs. What helped him though, was that the right savaged Romney.

Personally, I can't wait for the next Cuomo or Kennedy presidential candidate, because then I can hear from the Today Show how this is American royalty and the resurrection of Camelot for three hours a morning, every morning. :-P

Those 401k retirement funds aren't going to confiscate themselves.

Have you heard? Obama's budget proposal includes a $3M cap on tax-deferred retirement savings. I'm not sure what the machinations are, but according to Zero, it will raise $9 billion over ten years. It has begun.

AndrewPrice said...

Retirement is overrated.

tryanmax said...

Yeah. I mean, who needs to retire anyway? Only Ferrari-driving, AR-15 shooting, bitter clinger 1-percenters, that's who. Real Americans pay taxes until the day they die...and then some!

AndrewPrice said...

That's the spirit! Now get back to making tax revenue... Uncle Sam needs a new windfarm!

BevfromNYC said...

I'm actually thinking of NOT paying my taxes as a retirement plan. If I time it just right, I can go to prison for tax evasion and spend my remaining golden years with my room, board, and healthcare all provided by the Feds!
