I'm really enjoying the Democratic primary. It's bringing out the worst in these jokers. A couple thoughts.
● The biggest fun I'm having is watching the "ascent" of Mayor Buttguy. This guy is purely a media creation. They love him because he's white and gay and cute and gay and, gosh golly, he's what those stupid Americans in flyover country claim to want, and he's gay so shove that down their stupid throats! Did I mention that he's gay!! YES!!! HE'S GAY!!! ISN'T IT GLORIOUS?!!!! This is CNN reporting.
Sadly, in the rest of the party, Buttguy isn't selling quite so well. In the newsrooms, he's the new crush with about 100% support because he's just like them -- gay and white and better-than-you -- but elsewhere he seems to be about a 6% candidate. Real Clear Politics has him at 6.8% (down from 8.4%). Among blacks in South Carolina he has exactly 0.0% support.
And that brings me to what I've been enjoying lately. There has been a real pushback among blacks against Buttguy. Booker and Harris supporters have become furious that Buttguy is getting all this glowing coverage while they are being ignored even though their candidates have much better resumes. Hmm. Why could that be? Booker, who has Buttguy's resume and a lot more, couldn't get on the news right now if he took hostages, so his supporters have even gone so far in the past few days as to whisper the "P" word: privilege.
Apparently, being white and male makes you privileged, even if you are gay. Interesting, change from a few years ago, don't you think? (Told you.) Buttguy tried the "if you've ever been excluded then support me" line today which should only inflame this as Booker/Harris's people see Buttguy as an oppressor. So get your popcorn. Things are brewing ugly as race becomes a subtext. What's more, these same people whisper-screaming "privilege" also make a point of saying that it's time to hold the media accountable, so there should be plenty of fun as all these smug, white oppressor journalists have to either eat crow or deny their racism.
● Beto 2.0. I guess the first Beto campaign was just a Beta test. Beto has decided to reinvent himself now that his campaign has stalled and is starting to roll back downhill. It makes sense to do this, but it doesn't make sense to make it so obvious. Needing to reboot a campaign before the race has even begun reeks of desperation... which is what this is. So put a fork in Beto, he's done. (He's got 4.2% support, down from 10%.)
● The new Democratic litmus test is "break up Facebook!" //shakes head How small they have become... dumb*ss lemmings.
● Bernie just can't seem to understand why he's under constant attack at the moment. Pretty much everything he does is bringing criticism. He's definitely not used to that, nor does he know how to handle it.
Thoughts?

I'm not sure if I should be laughing at all this mess or blaming this three-ring circus for my headache.
I'll be back with more once the Excedrin kicks in...
Didn't some Dim from Montana enter the race today? There's so many....Now Tardicus, I mean Booker, is really upset that he's not getting any publicity, or support...Bernie is upset, then there's Kamala, who can't sleep her way to the top in a national primary, there's just so many, I can't remember them all...oh yeah, Creepy Uncle Joe...
Every day a new Dem seems to jump into the race. The coverage of Dem candidates seems really diffuse to me (but I get my news only from the internet nowadays). Attacking or being attacked by Trump seems to be the best way to get in the headlines.
I'm still not seeing this racial animosity from voters. That SC poll you are quoting says blacks are almost 2/3rds of Dem voters in the state and Biden alone has three times the support of both black candidates combined.
moving on for my money the most politically consequential recent event is the trade war with China. In the case of China trade war is worth a shot and will benefit Trump in the medium term (which includes 2020) provided China makes the concessions I believe it will.
Not that I expect a deal to make a big difference. With China the devil is always in the details and Trump will be tempted to look past their habitual cheating.

it is funny to say the least least. Probably the largest and least attractive group of candidates ever fielded. Still, with the electoral advantages, and the country split, there is never sn easy rode. I predict a 70 something will name a double minority as VP running mate, But .... maybe I’m wrong. There is always the possibility of something happening to “change the game” in politics.
Rustbelt, I'm pretty sure the Democrats are the cause.
Critch, They are quite the collection. And you're right, they're all upset about everything basically. It's a party based on grievance.
Anthony, I'm not making it up, nor am I anywhere near the only talking about it.
As for new entrants, there are always dozens of unknown candidates who jump in. Usually, they go unnoticed. I think the reason so many of these are getting any play at all from the media is how bad the current crop of front runners is.
Jed, There is talk right now (I think coming from Kamala's campaign) of a Biden/Harris ticket. I think that would be the worst of all worlds for them. Joe is an idiot with no appeal and Harris is a loser. If I were Democrat, I would take literally any of the other candidates before either of them.
Andrew,
I'm not accusing you of spinning out of whole cloth (there is no shortage of celebs, politicians and pundits claiming a lack of enthusiasm for X candidate is a sign of bias). I'm saying I haven't seen any evidence to support the claim of racial or for that matter, gender animosity driving primary numbers.
Polls have been remarkably consistent on the weak support of the weak (in a field of weaklings, that is saying something) existing black and/or female candidates even among blacks and women.
They remind of a pre-school class. One gets upset and starts crying and the whole room explodes...
I don't know what to make of any of it other than the Democrats still don't know how to respond to 2016. It's crazy how they're simultaneously going full socialist while cribbing talking points from Tucker Carlson.
De Blasio is running for president. Why? Why not?
I forgot to mention, I am running for president on the democratic ticket.
NYC will vote for De Blasio just to get him gone..a lot like Arkansas did in 1992 get rid of Slick Willie.
Hey everybody! Sorry for blowing you off at the moment, but I'm working on a rush legal project that should end tomorrow finally. That's got all my attention at the moment.
That said, this field reminds me of the 20+ dwarves, with all of them somewhere between Dopey and Sleazy. De Blasio has me shaking my head. Why?
Anthony, I'll get back to you on that and explain what I'm seeing.
