While you weren’t looking, the ADL has been quietly changing the definition of racism. So, while you may not have been racist before, you could be now. How can you be sure to stay always up-to-date on the latest racism? Don’t worry, Commentarama can help.
A new racism just dropped and you’re going to want to pick it up. But stay tuned! The ADL is giving signs that further revisions are in the works. First, some background on why it’s time to Redefine Racism… again.
Lots of people were caught unawares over the last update, so don’t feel bad if you missed it. A couple of years ago, the ADL definition of racism was the always popular but, let’s face it, kind of old "belief that a particular race is superior or inferior to another."
It was during the crazy hectic Summer of Floyd that the ADL realized it was time for a new, sexy, woke upgrade. The new definition of racism at that time was "the marginalization and/or oppression of people of color based on a socially constructed racial hierarchy that privileges white people.” Pretty woke, right?
Unfortunately, so much was going on in 2020 that ADL’s hot new update hardly got noticed. Not until a few weeks ago, when some right-wing trolls got ahold of it and started passing it around for the LULZ, as the kids say.
In a completely unrelated event, host of The View, Whoopi Goldberg recently said some things about race and the Holocaust that were confusing and unclear. The ADL does not condone clumsy remarks about race and the Holocaust. However, the next day, the CEO of the ADL proclaimed that Whoopi should not be cancelled for her remarks. The day after—again, totally unrelated—the ADL CEO also took the privilege of announcing their latest new definition of racism.
The new definition states that “Racism occurs when individuals or institutions show more favorable evaluation or treatment of an individual or group based on race or ethnicity.” The new definition comes with a citation to Prof. Robert Livingston, so blame him if you don’t like it. (Already, I think the affirmative action people are going to have something to say.) Also, this is only an “interim definition,” so keep checking back for more updates to come!
While the ADL continues to work diligently to figure out what exactly racism is, maybe someone could launch an app that would send a notification to people’s phones every time there’s an update?

Wow, quick aside... so the left screams that athletes bringing politics into sports and kneeling to the national anthem is patriot and daring and whatnot. All you racists better STFU and let them do it!

In terms of commenting, I'm finding that I can't have any other blogger windows open + I come to this site from a non-blogger site + I click on the article and not the comments links. Then it lets me comment.
tryanmax, I didn't see this change specifically, but it's become clear that "racism" is a moving target.
For most wokes, racism means simply "the mention of blacks by conservatives or something that will in some way affect blacks which we don't like." Another definition they use is "something that can be spun in a way that white liberals might believe might offend some black person somewhere."
Please note too that "racism" has a sliding-scale. Whites = racist. Actions taken by minorities = not racist, unless they are from a more privileged minority. Thus, Asians can be racist, except to whites. Hispanics can be racist to blacks and native Americans, but not Asians or whites. Blacks cannot be racist no matter how racist they act. Native Americans do not exist and only speak through liberal whites. Liberal whites are inherently/systematically racist (i.e. non-blame forming) but ignore their actual racism because they lack the intent to be racist. Lastly, there is no racism in anything said or done against conservative blacks.
Got it?
Oh, and antisemistism is something the right does regardless of who does it, and can only done by whites... and now Whoopie. It includes things like calling Jews whites and claiming Jews are not whites. It does not include calls for the destruction of Israel, or anything said by Nation of Islam speakers.
Yes, the forever moving goal posts of the modern ADL. The modern American woke left must do this crap to keep up with all the actual racist crap coming from their leftoid pals mouths… otherwise these leftoids would have to be held accountable by their own standards. Bunch of punks are tearing our country apart with this crap!
I still cant get over whats happened over the last decade. I’m still fairly progressive in a lot of my views, however this is not progress... This is just rebranded Marxism with the “class” aspect of Marxism being replaced with identity politics.

I’m truly grateful American conservatives have started dropping the Religious Right moral panic crap… otherwise I think the country really would be screwed. I disagree with some of the GOP agenda but at least they haven't gone woke. Hell the GOP has technically done more “progressing” over the last decade than the DNC. Hopefully things start to improve over the next few years.

Whew, Andrew! Seems like you've been clear through the intersectional stack or whatever they call it these days. It's a minefield and it's intended to be. At the end of the day, the only real purpose it serves is to keep people on eggshells which is a guaranteed way to keep the issue of racism alive for a long time.
I saw a very blunt and humorous "woke translator" meme the other day. It said, "When liberals say they want to have a conversation about race, what they mean is that they do not want to have a conversation about race."
That pretty much sums it up, I think.

You're absolutely right about the disingenuousness. The goalposts have to move because racist leftists keep own-goaling themselves in their attempts to trip up people who are not racist.
I still consider myself a leftist expat even though I was driven out in the PC 90s. Maybe it doesn't count for much after this long, but then as now the default was Democrat, but I just couldn't handle the ever-shifting rules. If that makes me out of it or square, I'll go stand with Huey Lewis.

As for Whoopie, a similar systematic search of the criminal's past has revealed other instances of antisemitism, like when she "appropriated" the Jewish religion by changing her name from Johnson to Goldberg (though claiming a name is Jewish is itself antisemitic), wearing a Hanukkah sweater, and making fun of the Jewish American Princess trope in a celebrity cookbook. How dare you, madame!! How dare you! You madame, are worse than Hitler!

Hey tryanmax, sounds like were in the same political lifeboat… just a generation apart. I was a teenager in the W. Bush era… his admin did a real fine job of making the GOP look bad.
As bad as W. was, Biden has eclipsed his terribleness in about 1/4th the time Bush had to ruin his own reputation. To be frank Obama was pretty crap too. Aside from Trump’s big mouth & surrounding himself with idiots in his admin; he was the first president in a while that was at least okay at a policy level. Now that I think about it, isn't that pathetic? They guy from The Apprentice did a better job than Bush & Obama lol.
Andrew, speaking of cancel culture… you see that crap with Dwayne the rock Johnson? He defended Rogan, then back-peddled after back lash… Distancing himself from Rogan! Funny enough, Dwayne has supported canceling many people in the past. Combine that with Dwayne gifting with BLM & endorsing Biden by claiming Trump & his supporters are a “threat to democracy”… he seems to be a woke-lite grifter type.
