Ukraine

My thoughts.

First, I want no part of a war. Russia has nuclear missiles and we don't want a war between countries with nuclear weapons. There is just too high of a chance of mistake.

Second, we need to stop Putin. You can't have a thug who is willing to start wars in the face of worldwide opposition running around freely. A creature like him has no limits.

How do we stop Putin? The only weapon we have is sanctions. But we need real sanctions, not crap like we usually do. (1) Ban travel for every senior Russian official. (2) Invalidate the Russian passport. (3) Issue worldwide arrest warrants for Putin and his top military brass. (4) Seize their bank accounts throughout the world. (4) Remove Russia from the money exchange system. (5) Cut the internet to Russia. (6) Ban all exports/imports with Russia.

Third, this is the fault of...
(1) Biden for being weak. He spoke in extra harsh terms the last couple weeks which suggest he's all talk and no action and then he kept making winking asides ensuring the world he would not do anything really. That's a green light to a guy like Putin. So much for a "small incursion."

(2) Conservatives for flirting with Putin. Trump included. We used to know better than to encourage monsters.

(3) The Democrats for treating Russia as a political game rather than treating it like a genuine threat. You proved yourselves to be a joke.

(4) Western liberals for still not understanding that the threat of stern letters only tells bullies like Putin that you won't do anything. If I may quote Biden and then respond: "The World will hold Russia responsible." Really? With harsh language?

(5) The corporate world for helping Russia modernize without asking whether they should have helped this thug-ocracy. The tech firms in particular are to blame here.
My best to the people of Ukraine.

CNN just figured out that the Russians were lying.

I will give CNN credit though that they have no American-politicized this. There's no talk of Trump, no political talking heads to play the blame game. They is actual reporting. It's kind of refreshing.

I'm not much of a fan of the blame everybody approach. It's too "both sides" for me. Or maybe it's because I have nothing against taking a soothing tone with a mad dog.

Yes, Trump and conservatives have said some amicable but unimportant things* about Putin while at the same time working to shore up and expand NATO's military and energy independence. One can't honestly blame Putin for shrugging off gestures that amount to speaking softly coming from an adversary carrying a big stick.

Contrast that with Biden, who came in speaking loudly while allowing Russia to take a huge stake in European energy, as well as literally giving Putin a list of critical US infrastructure that is "off limits" (read "targets"). That got Putin's attention in the worst way.

*I would also opine that the general appreciation for the backhanded compliment is sorely lacking.

Andrew, I feel about the same as you do in your article.
Regarding our economy; That punk Biden & his media cronies are now trying to blame these brand new “Russia Sanctions” for the Biden admins own awful economy that has existed long before the sanctions were created… and I’m sure leftoids will parrot this lie as the new reality. Yea just ignore the entire last year of inflation caused by Democrats… no no its because Russia invaded Ukraine… that's why the economy is so bad. Liars.

The Democrats & the legacy media just keep trying to blame big mouth Trump for everything… problem is Trump is not in a position of power anymore so they just come off as the jackasses they are. I'm fed up with our media & Biden’s BS… I have no idea where this leads us. It could get very ugly over the next year.

Question.

True: War is bad for the American people and should be avoided.

True: The stock market represents what is good for American businesses.

If: The stock market is up now that the war had begun. The Nasdaq is up 2.6% as of this comment.

Then: What is good for "American" business and what is good for Americans not aligned.

This seems to keep happening: pushing wokist social policy, open borders, keeping wages down, selling off pension assets, offshoring, etc.

tryanmax, I agree that there are definitely degrees of fault. Nice backhanded compliment, by the way. :) But I just find it annoying that "conservatives" don't seem to know better any more. Ronald Reagan never would have made the mistake of playing footsie with a tyrant.

Biden is definitely the largest to blame, but a lot of people bear part of this. Liberals still don't understand Putin. I see them on television with no clue why he would do this and spinning fantasies over how Putin might stop.

I guarantee you that the Germans aren't going to stop a single weapons sale and people like Google won't do a thing to upset Putin... or China. Instead, they'll invent theories on how appeasement is the truest form of combating.

Kyle, It's shocking how bad the lies they tell are, and even more shocking that their drones believe things that simply cannot be true. It's Orwellian.

My daughter has a couple friends who are drones. She was playing with them last night by trying to get them to give opinions before they received their programming. They simply could not offer anything... no opinions. All they could say was "this is terrible". That is, until the blogosphere gave them the beliefs they'd "independently" always had. We actually watched them being programmed in real time.

One of those opinions, by the way, is that this is Trump's fault for praising Putin two days ago. Talk about a nonsense opinion. So an event that began months ago was caused two days ago. How does that make sense?

Andrew, What you & your daughter just witnessed is exactly the phenomena I was speaking of. These people are idiots when it comes to politics and simply parrot what “feels” right. They feel a whole lot, but they know nothing.

This is definitely a human trait & not a left or right thing… however with the way our media is slanted currently, the left seems to be more susceptible to this mindlessness than I’ve ever witnessed in my lifetime. Even more so than the Bush era Republicans after 9/11.
Biden has been awful; but the lefts shifting mindset is now this: “Were in war now so we have to forget all the Biden admins problems and rally around our dear leader. If you do not agree your a Russian/Putin supporter!”.

Its just a bunch of BS.

So Hillary is fighting Trump over Ukraine. Man, do those two deserve each other. We should pass a law forcing them to marry.

Kyle, It's the human herd instinct. These people are part of the herd. And the louder, less tolerant the herd, the greater their need to mirror it.

It was both comical and horrific to watch this girl literally being incapable of any sort of independent thought and then slowing being filled as if from a gas pump with her "most deeply held beliefs"... of the moment.

And yeah, both right and left have done this, but the left is more prone to it because their ideology is collectivist to begin with. The right's generally takes a different form.

I noticed things going wrong in this regard for the right starting in the 1990s when conservative commentators stopped explaining conservative principles and just started asserting they were true: "the market will take care of it." Magical thinking. And soon, conservatism drifted into bumpersticker thinking.

The left right now is in major witch hunt mode. You believe or we destroy you. That's where the left heads at its biggest moments of groupthink. Conservatives don't react the same way, they tend to disappear off to compound living/isolation when they get all herd-like.

IDK man. They're both rich. They have access to IVF technologies the rest of us have never heard of. The risk of them actually putting aside their differences long enough to produce a Mini-Trullary is too great.
